The Clever Cowboy

Tony was a handsome and clever cowboy. One day, he went to a neighbouring city. He was feeling hungry but had no money. Still, he went inside a hotel.

Having had his fill, he shouted, "I challenge everybody present here that none of you has ever seen a horse with it's tail where it's head should be." Everyone thought that he was fibbing.

One man said, "It's impossible. If you show us, then I will pay your bill." Tony took them to a stable where he had tied his horse by it's tail to the feeding trough. People understood that Tony was clever. The man paid his bill.

The Bird Pair and The Sea

Part 1

Once upon a time, a pair of pheasants lived close to the Sea. They spent their time happily singing and dancing on the branches of the trees by the Sea. One day the female pheasant told her husband that she was expecting their baby and he must look for a safe place to lay the eggs. The husband said, “My dear, this Seaside is enchanting and it is better you lay eggs here only.“

The wife said, “When it is full moon, the Sea tide can wash away even wild elephants. Let us go elsewhere.“

Amused, the husband said, “What you say is true. But the Sea has no power to harm us. Haven‘t you heard that there is no fool who could stop the flight of a bird or a fool who would enter fire recklessly. Will anyone be brash enough to challenge Yama (the Lord of Death) to take his life if he can? You can lay your eggs here only.“

The Ugly Mind

Part 1


It was a crowded flight and a beautiful lady aged around 40 years boarded the flight as the passenger. She searched for her seat and found her seat was next to a black man.

She showed that she wasn‘t in a hurry to take her seat as she found it too hard and awkward to sit next to a black man.

Feeling disgusted, the beautiful lady called the air hostess and asked her to change her seat.

The airhostess requested for a reason why she would like to change the seat.

She replied,  “It is impossible for me to sit next to a black man, I hate it! You copy?‘

The airhostess was shocked to hear these hard words from the one who looked so dignified and composed.

She again demanded her to get her a new seat. The airhostess said she would do so and requested her to wait for a few minutes.

He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty. "Now who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air.

"My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way.

We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. You are special - Don't ever forget it!

Horse Riding from a Book


Once, a man went to a library. There he read a book, 'How to ride a horse'. After few days, he went to a friend who had a horse.. seeing it, he couldn't control himself and asked for a ride from his friend. The friend agreed.

The man tried to ride the horse. But a horse always recognizes its rider. It reared up and flung the man to the ground.

The friend asked, "Where did you learn to ride?" the man exposed his foolishness saying that he learnt it from a library book.

One must remember that one can’t learn anything by oneself. You need a teacher if you want to learn.

The Little Girl And Mushrooms

Part 2


It seemed that the little girl could not hear her sister. She was still concentrating on stepping over the track with her little feet, and holding on to the basket. Then she tripped and fell on the track, scattering her mushrooms around. She sat down and began picking them up and putting in her basket.

In the meanwhile the elder sister had become hysteric. She cried and screamed, calling her little sister to leave the mushrooms and run back, but it seemed as though the little one could not hear her.

The engine driver panicked on seeing the girl and blew his whistle with all his might, but she appeared not to hear the whistle. Her sister was now crying loudly, overcome by panic, as the little sister crawled between the tracks on her hands and knees, to pick the rest of the mushrooms.

The engine driver was helpless as it was not possible for him to stop the engine suddenly. He blew the whistle as hard as he could, but the engine rolled over the little girl. The older sister clasped her face with her trembling hands and cried bitterly. The passengers too panicked at the thought of the sight they would have to witness. The guard ran down to the end of the train to see what happened to the little girl. When the train passed, everybody saw her lying very still between the tracks with her face down.

Then she raised her head, sprang to her knees and began gathering the remaining mushrooms.

The big sister ran towards her, tears streaming down her face. They hugged and kissed each other, crying out of happiness, tears of joy flowing down their little cheeks. Never were two souls so happily united as at that moment. She promised her little sister that thereafter she would hold her hand tightly while crossing the railway line.

The two sisters then picked all the remaining mushrooms, and hand in hand, solemnly walked back home. They were indeed two souls who had become wiser than their years, in the span of a few minutes.

Two Cats and a Monkey

Once upon a time two cats found a piece of cheese and cut it into two pieces. But one piece was slightly bigger than the other.

Both the cats wanted the bigger piece. Then they went ton a monkey and asked to sort out the matter.

The monkey said, "Don't worry. I'll make both the pieces equal.Then it took a bite from the bigger piece. But this made the other piece larger.

So it took a bite from the other piece. This continued till the pieces became very small.


Seeing this, the cats pleaded, "Sir! We are satisfied. Let us have the pieces now."

The shrewd monkey replied, "This is my fee for sorting out the problem." Saying this, it gobbled up the remaining cheese.

The Crane and the Snake

Part 2

"I hope we are not making a mistake. Think twice before going ahead with the plan."

But the crane was eager to try out the plan. The crane flew down to the river bank and began to fish. He caught several little fishes and went down to the hole in which a mongoose lived. He dropped a fish at the mouth of the hole. Then he took another fish and dropped it a little further away from the first one. Repeating this, he made a trail of fishes leading to the tree where his nest was.


The mongoose smelt the fish and came out of the hole. "Ah, a fish!" exclaimed the mongoose joyfully and quickly ate it up. He then followed the trail of fishes. As he neared the tree where the cranes and the snake lived, the trail ended. Finding no more fishes, he looked around.


Suddenly he came across the black cobra at the foot of the tree. Seeing the mongoose, the cobra fought for his life. Both fought for a long time and in the end the mongoose killed the snake. The cranes who were watching the fight from their nest sighed with relief.

The next day the mongoose began to follow the same trail hoping to find more food. When he came to the tree where the trail ended, he decided to climb the tree in search of food.

The cranes who were away at the river bank returned to find the mongoose climbing down the tree. On looking in their nest, they discovered that this time, the mongoose had eaten up all their eggs.

"Alas! We got rid of one enemy only to find another," said the crane to his wife.

When Adversity Knocks

Part 1

Mary was a young girl. She had a major problem that she got annoyed with everything. She felt bad about everything and just always carried a negative thinking. She used to get angry as well as got frightened of everything. She developed all these negative aspects suddenly. One day she felt she was so miserable and requested help from her dad. 

She told him that if she was able to manage and solve a problem, another one followed quickly and it got repeated. Her father consoled her and took her to the kitchen.

He asked Mary to take a potato, an egg and two spoonfuls of tea leaves. Mary was surprised, and asked her father ‘do you want me to cook?‘

Her father denied. He then took three vessels and poured one cup of water in each vessel. Each vessel was placed on the stove. Once the water started to boil, he dropped potato in a vessel, egg in the second one and tea leaves in the third one.

Two Goats

Part 1


Once a goat was grazing on the grassy slope of a hill near a stream. It decided to taste the grass on the hills across. A narrow log served as a bridge across the stream. While crossing the bridge, it saw another goat coming from the other side. The bridge was so narrow that only one animal could cross the bridge at a time.

The first goat said to the other, "Let me pass first."   "You let me pass first", snapped the other goat.

They started threatening each other and finally got into a terrible fight, so savagely that they lost their balance and fell into the stream.

The other goats grazing on the hills saw this spectacle and learnt a lesson.

Part 1

Once a fisherman was sitting near seashore, under the shadow of a tree smoking his beedi. Suddenly a rich businessman passing by approached him and enquired as to why he was sitting under a tree smoking and not working. To this the poor fisherman replied that he had caught enough fishes for the day.

Hearing this the rich man got angry and said: Why don’t you catch more fishes instead of sitting in shadow wasting your time?

Fisherman asked: What would I do by catching more fishes?

Businessman: You could catch more fishes, sell them and earn more money, and buy a bigger boat.

Fisherman: What would I do then?

Businessman: You could go fishing in deep waters and catch even more fishes and earn even more money.

Fisherman: What would I do then?

The Dog and the Donkey


Once a donkey and a dog met on a road. They both had to go in the same direction, so they became friends and traveled together. They had taken just a few steps when they saw a packet lying by the road-side. The dog picked up the packet and giving it to the donkey said, "Open it and read it out for me.

" The donkey did exactly what the dog had asked him to do. The packet turned out to be all about the things that donkey eat like grass, barley etc. the dog felt bored hearing what the donkey was reading out and said, "Turn over the pages and see if there is something about the things I am fond of such as meat, bones etc.

The donkey glanced through the entire packet but couldn't find anything of the dog's sort. The dog became sadder and asked the donkey to throw it away because he found the packet useless for him.

EVERYONE CARES FOR HIS ENDS

The storm kept growing stronger. The teak could no longer bear it. He felt his strength giving way.

He tried his best to stand upright, but in the end, he fell down. That was the end of the proud tree.

When everything was calm again, the herb stood straight. He looked around. He saw that the proud teak had fallen.

Moral: 👓Pride goes before a fall.👓

The Bird Pair and The Sea

Part 2

Listening to this dialogue, the Sea thought, “How vain is this bird which is as small as a worm! Let me drown these eggs and see what he can do.“

The Bird Pair and The SeaAfter laying eggs, the female bird went in search of food. In her absence, the Sea sent a wave that sucked the eggs into the waters. The female returned to the nest and, not finding the eggs there, told the husband, “You are a fool. I told you that the waves would wash away the eggs. Those who do not heed the good words of a friend will perish like the turtle who fell off the stick.“

“What‘s that turtle and what is that stick?“ asked the husband.

Once upon a time a turtle called Kambugriva lived in a pond. He had two swans, Sankat and Vikat, as good friends. Every day they would meet on the rim of the pond and discuss legends of yore. They would disperse with sunset. That year there were no rains and the water in the pond began slowly disappearing.

Worried, the swans told the turtle, “Friend, What will happen to you? We are concerned.“

“I appreciate your interest in me. There is trouble ahead. Please find a way out of this crisis. But it is important that we should not give in to despair. According to Manu, all good men should come to the rescue of friends and relatives in times of need. Look for a stick or a rope. I will hang on to it as both of you hold the two sides of the stick or rope and ferry me to safety.“

“We shall do as you say,“ the swans said. “But you have to shut your mouth. Otherwise, you will crash to the ground.“

On Kambugriva agreeing to the plan, the swans brought a stick and asked the turtle to hold it with his teeth. When everything was ready, the swans flew off with the turtle hanging from it. Part 2

The airhostess went in search of an empty seat for the lady. The airhostess told the lady, ‘I‘m afraid Madam, there is no vacant seat in the economy class and the flight is almost full! However, we do follow the policy to fulfil the desires of our passengers to the maximum extent possible. So, give me a minute, I will check with my captain and get back to you, as we feel it is not fair to force a passenger to have an unpleasant seat!‘

The lady waited for a couple of minutes and the airhostess came.

The latter replied, ‘Madam, sorry for this inconvenience. We don‘t want to make your journey unpleasant by making you sit next to someone with whom you aren‘t comfortable. There is one seat available in the First Class. Although we don‘t allow any passenger to move from economy class to first class, to make you a happy customer, we are doing this for the first time in our company‘s history. Our captain agreed to shift from economy class to first class.!‘

Aeroplane Just before the lady said any word as a reply, the air hostess humbly requested the black man and told him, ‘Dear sir, would you please shift your seat to first class? Please retrieve all your personal items from your seat and our captain would like to move you to first class as we don‘t really want to have an uncomfortable journey sitting next an unpleasant person, with an ugly mind!‘ 

The lady was quiet and frozen! A few of the fellow passengers were happy and gave huge applause for the flight crew!

Never Pretend What You Are Not


Once there was a crow that lived near a farm-house. The owner of the farm had kept some pigeons and he fed them with grains regularly. The crow looked at the pigeons and envied them everyday.

Deciding to share the feed, the crow painted his body like that of pigeons and joined the pigeons as one of them. Thus, he was able to enjoy the feed daily. The pigeons never suspected anything foul.

But one day, after the feed, the crow couldn't control himself and started crying. The pigeons came to know that he was not one of them. They pecked at his body so mercilessly that he started bleeding.

The crow flew away to save his life and went straight to his own brethren- the crows. But because of his painted body, they refused to accept him. So, he was forced to flee in order to save himself and became a homeless wanderer.  So, don't pose what you are not because affectation seldom works.

He then asked, "Who still wants it?"Still the hands were up in the air.

"Well," he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe.

“Dad, look the clouds are running with us!”

The couple could not resist and said to the old man.“Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor?”

The old man smiled and said…
“I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth, he just got his eyes today.”

The Little Girl And Mushrooms

Part 1

It was a fine summer morning, perfect to be outdoors. Two sisters had been out mushroom picking, and were on their home with heavy baskets full of mushrooms. They sang songs on the way, and played with each other.

Soon they reached a point where they had to cross a railway track. They did not think twice about crossing it since there was no train coming, and they could not hear any whistle. They slowly climbed the embankment to cross the track, taking care not to drop the baskets. They were very near the track and the little sister was about the cross it, when they heard the distinct horn of a train.

The older sister got frightened and ran back. She thought that the young one was following her. She turned back and was shocked to see her little sister still crossing the track. "Come back here, run back fast," she screamed.

Once two friends called Harry and Garry came to a city to earn money. They went to a rich merchant for a job. The merchant gave each of them a cane basket and pointing towards a well in his garden said, Take these baskets and draw water from the well till dusk.

Harry thought it foolish to draw water in a cane basket. So, he slept. On the other hand, Garry kept working. After few hours, when he drew the basket up, he saw some gold coins in the basket

He took them to the merchant who rewarded him and gave him a job too. Harry went away ashamed.

The Crane and the Snake

Part 1

In a forest close to the river bank mere lived a crane with his wife. They were very unhappy. Every time the wife laid eggs in their nest, a big black cobra who lived in a hollow in the tree, would eat them up. The crane had a friend the crab. He went to his friend the crab and shared his misery. "I feel so hopeless....That sneaking thief has eaten our eggs again," complained the crane angrily.

"Don't worry," said the crab comfortingly. "You need not be hopeless when you have a friend like me. We will come up with a solution."

The crab sat to think of a plan. Suddenly he jumped up and rushed to the crane.

"Friend, I have a wonderful plan," said the crab and whispered something into the crane's ear.

The crane flew back to his nest and told his wife all about the crab's plan. He was very excited.

"Are you sure this will work?" asked the wife.

When Adversity Knocks

Part 2

Mary was totally annoyed and asked him, why would her father do those stupid things? He asked her to wait for a few more minutes with patience.

The impatient daughter managed to wait for around 15 minutes. 

The Father removed the potato from the pot and placed in a plate and did the same with eggs. He filtered the tea decoction using a cup.

Now, he placed the two plates, one with the potato and the other with the egg, and the cup of tea in front of Mary.

He asked Mary,
‘What do you see?‘
She said, ‘Potato, Egg and a cup of tea!‘
‘No, you are wrong,‘ said the father. 
‘Look at it closely and answer me.‘
Mary replied the same.

‘Now touch it and reply me.‘ The potato was cooked and was so soft, the egg was boiled hard and the tea carried the nice aroma.

Mary couldn‘t find the correct answer. Her father replied, 
‘The potato was so hard and strong before they were boiled; now they turned soft and smooth. Also, the egg was too delicate but after boiling it became too hard. Sip the tea, it is delicious!‘

Mary asked, ‘What does it mean father? I don‘t understand!‘

‘Each object responded differently to water. That is how you have to be?

Each object was put under the same kind of circumstance, faced similar adversity, but reacted differently. The potato, when put in boiling water, became very weak. The crumbled egg became very hard, when we put in boiling water. And the tea leaves are unique. It changed the water itself, giving it unique flavour and aroma! It gave something new.‘

Mary understood that we could create something new and unique even when we experienced adversity. 

So, what are you? A potato or an egg or a tea leaf?

At this, James replied, "What can I do in this? Smoke always goes up." Then John brought a bucket full of water and poured it over the burning leaves.

When James shouted at him, he said, "What can I do in this? Water always flows down." James had no answer to this.

Everyday, a shepherd used to take his cows for grazing. He had tied a bell to each of the cows he had so that he could know where they were grazing. The best cow had a costly bell tied around her neck.

One day, a stranger was going through the pasture. Seeing the costly bell around the cow's neck, he went to the shepherd and asked if he would sell the bell.

Out of greed, the shepherd sold the bell. But now he could not know where his best cow was grazing.

On getting an opportunity, the stranger stole the cow. Thus, the shepherd lost his best cow just because of his greed.

There was a proud teak tree in the forest. He was tall and strong. There was a small herb next to the tree.

The teak tree said, "I am very handsome and strong. No one can defeat me." Hearing this, the herb replied, "Dear friend, too much pride is harmful. Even the strong will fall one day."

The teak ignored the herb's words. He continued to praise himself.

A strong wind blew. The teak stood firmly. Even when it rained, the teak stood strong by spreading its leaves.

During these times, the herb bowed low. The teak made fun of the herb.

One day, there was a storm in the forest. The herb bowed low. As usual, the teak did not want to bow.
