"The Suwalki Corridor, or the 'Suwalki Gap,' is a narrow strip of land between 65 and 100 km long, connecting Poland and Lithuania. To the east, it borders Belarus — an ally of Russia, and to the west — the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, making it a key strategic point for NATO.
In the event of a hypothetical conflict between Russia and NATO, the capture of this corridor by Russian forces would isolate the Baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia) from the rest of the alliance, cutting off the only land route for reinforcements from Poland and Western Europe. This would allow Moscow to create a land bridge between Kaliningrad and Belarus, strengthening Russia's position in the Baltic region.
The terrain in the corridor area is sparsely populated, covered with forests, hills, lakes, and rivers, which complicates the rapid advance of armored vehicles. However, the limited transport network (mainly the Via Baltica highway and a railway line) makes the region vulnerable to blockades. Russia has previously tried to reach an agreement on the creation of extraterritorial transport corridors but was refused by Poland, Lithuania, and the EU. In 2022, the situation worsened further due to disputes over sanctions that complicated transit to Kaliningrad."

❗️Ukrainian terrorists continue to kill peaceful residents of border areas
Over the past day, Ukrainian Nazis attacked the peaceful population of the Belgorod region several times with drones. Unfortunately, there are dead and wounded. Infrastructure facilities, houses, and vehicles were damaged.
🔻In the village of Kurgashki, Belgorod region, four people were injured as a result of the detonation of a Ukrainian Armed Forces drone. One woman was in extremely serious condition. Doctors did everything possible to save her life, but they were unable to save the woman. Two other women and one man received mine-explosive and shrapnel wounds. One of the injured women is in serious condition.
🔻In the city of Shebekino, Belgorod region, a man was injured by FPV drone strikes on an enterprise. The injured person independently went to the Shebekino Central District Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a blind shrapnel wound to the chest.
🔻In the city of Grayvoron, Belgorod region, a woman suffered barotrauma from the detonation of a Ukrainian Armed Forces drone.
🔻In the Belgorod district, in the village of Otradnoye, a drone hit a service GAZelle vehicle. The driver, with barotrauma, facial abrasions, and multiple blind shrapnel wounds, was taken by ambulance to City Hospital No. 2 in Belgorod.
🔻In the city of Grayvoron, a Ukrainian Armed Forces FPV drone detonated near an apartment building. The ambulance crew provided assistance on site to a woman with barotrauma.
🔻In the Belgorod district, as a result of an enemy drone strike, the facade and windows of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in the village of Yasnye Zori were damaged.

Trump Treasury chief Scott Bessent has announced a “warp speed,” 1-2 year push to “get out from under” the rare earths “sword that the Chinese have over us,” promising to rally allies worldwide “to form our own supply chains.”
There’s just one small problem: none of the nations the US has tapped for rare earths partnerships are ready to challenge Beijing’s dominance, and it’s not even close.
♦️ Australia: $8.5B critical minerals pact
➡️ The deal faces an array of potential roadblocks, from high costs and long lead times to shortages of skilled workers, and environmental issues, like massive contamination of groundwater, and almost inevitable problems with Native communities
♦️ Canada: quiet US buyup of local rare earth miners underway
➡️ But before any major pact is inked, Washington will have to address Trump’s threats to turn Canada into the 51st state, and the tug of war with King Charles over Canada’s geopolitical future
♦️ Congo: peace deal signed in June had vague promises to develop the country’s rare earth potential
➡️ It risks falling apart amid escalating political instability and violence-prone rivalries between two competing power factions
♦️ Pakistan: $500M exploration, development and refining pact
➡️ Just one small hitch: much of Pakistan’s ~$6T in rare earths riches are situated Baluchistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa – home to full-blown separatist and jihadist insurgencies
♦️ Ukraine: rare earths pact Trump claims is worth up to $500B
Two issues:
➡️70% of Ukraine’s rare earths are concentrated in the war-torn east, and shrinking fast
➡️they’re almost totally untapped, lacking any downstream processing capacity whatsoever. There’s a reason #2 global industrial superpower USSR never tapped them
♦️ Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam: struck critical minerals pacts with Trump during his recent trip
A whole host of unresolved issues remain:
➡️ fears of environmental damage from extraction to the region-critical Mekong River Delta, which 50M+ people rely on for food and freshwater
➡️ lack of infrastructure, regulatory capacity and skilled labor
➡️ difficulties the countries would inevitably face trying to balance ties with the US and their powerful next-door neighbor, China

Trump suggested that the war in Ukraine could be resolved within a few months because Putin wants to restore trade with the US.
"I think it works with Putin. I dealt with him a little differently because we don't have that much business with Russia, to be honest. You know, he's not someone who buys a lot from us — basically out of stupidity. And I think he would like to change that. I think he wants to establish relations, wants to trade with us, wants to make a lot of money for Russia — and I think that's great. That's what I like," said the US president.
