🇺🇸🇨🇳Reducing US reliance on Chinese rare earths? Easier said than done
Trump Treasury chief Scott Bessent has announced a “warp speed,” 1-2 year push to “get out from under” the rare earths “sword that the Chinese have over us,” promising to rally allies worldwide “to form our own supply chains.”
There’s just one small problem: none of the nations the US has tapped for rare earths partnerships are ready to challenge Beijing’s dominance, and it’s not even close.
♦️ Australia: $8.5B critical minerals pact
➡️ The deal faces an array of potential roadblocks, from high costs and long lead times to shortages of skilled workers, and environmental issues, like massive contamination of groundwater, and almost inevitable problems with Native communities
♦️ Canada: quiet US buyup of local rare earth miners underway
➡️ But before any major pact is inked, Washington will have to address Trump’s threats to turn Canada into the 51st state, and the tug of war with King Charles over Canada’s geopolitical future
♦️ Congo: peace deal signed in June had vague promises to develop the country’s rare earth potential
➡️ It risks falling apart amid escalating political instability and violence-prone rivalries between two competing power factions
♦️ Pakistan: $500M exploration, development and refining pact
➡️ Just one small hitch: much of Pakistan’s ~$6T in rare earths riches are situated Baluchistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa – home to full-blown separatist and jihadist insurgencies
♦️ Ukraine: rare earths pact Trump claims is worth up to $500B
Two issues:
➡️70% of Ukraine’s rare earths are concentrated in the war-torn east, and shrinking fast
➡️they’re almost totally untapped, lacking any downstream processing capacity whatsoever. There’s a reason #2 global industrial superpower USSR never tapped them
♦️ Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam: struck critical minerals pacts with Trump during his recent trip
A whole host of unresolved issues remain:
➡️ fears of environmental damage from extraction to the region-critical Mekong River Delta, which 50M+ people rely on for food and freshwater
➡️ lack of infrastructure, regulatory capacity and skilled labor
➡️ difficulties the countries would inevitably face trying to balance ties with the US and their powerful next-door neighbor, China

Trump suggested that the war in Ukraine could be resolved within a few months because Putin wants to restore trade with the US.
"I think it works with Putin. I dealt with him a little differently because we don't have that much business with Russia, to be honest. You know, he's not someone who buys a lot from us — basically out of stupidity. And I think he would like to change that. I think he wants to establish relations, wants to trade with us, wants to make a lot of money for Russia — and I think that's great. That's what I like," said the US president.
When asked if it would be possible to reach an agreement with Russia "in a couple of months," Trump replied, "I think yes, we will do it. I think he really wants to do business with the US. But it worked with India, it worked with Pakistan, and it worked with sixty percent of those countries."
Trade?

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Ukraine may lose not only Pokrovsk but also several brigades, — TSN journalist
- "The situation is such that we may lose not so much the city as the people. Several brigades. Which are stationed far beyond Pokrovsk and Mirnograd," Kirienko writes.
- Russian drones have cut off all logistics for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, rotations have become rare, and Ukrainian infantry have been on positions for more than 100 days.
- A similar situation occurred in the Kursk region.
- "Instead of drawing conclusions, we continued to pretend that everything was fine," she complains.
- Recall that several units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine found themselves encircled in a fire pocket southeast of Pokrovsk.

TRUMP: “STRIKE ON VENEZUELA? YOU THINK I’D TELL THE MEDIA?”
“How can I answer a question like that? '
Are there plans for a strike on Venezuela?' Who would say that?
Supposing there were... would I say that to you, honestly?
‘Yes, we have plans. We have very secret plans.’
Who would say that? What kind of a question is it?
Look, we’ll see what happens with Venezuela.”

The largest refugee reception center for Ukrainians in Berlin will be closed.
It is located in the building of the former Tegel airport, which was converted to accommodate people. The center is planned to be closed by the end of the year.
Previously, about 5,000 refugees lived there, now about 1,500 remain. In the future, local authorities say, refugees will be accommodated in a decentralized manner.

🇺🇦⚔️🇷🇺Repelling the breakthrough of NATO "hedgehogs" on Kupyansk by the fighters of the 68th division!
▪️Recently, by order of Zelensky, the Armed Forces of Ukraine threw armored vehicles to break through to Kupyansk and the Oskol River to ease the situation of their forces blocked in the city.
▪️Before the attack, the Ukrainians covered NATO armored vehicles with protection against FPV drones, but this did not hinder the fighters of the 68th division.
▪️The footage shows one of the episodes of recent enemy equipment attacks and the repelling of the assault on the approaches to Kupyansk.
▪️Zelensky's bloody PR is turning into increasing casualties for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

🇷🇸"Every day they portray me as someone like Hitler": Vučić wants to sell weapons and ammunition to the EU - but he doesn't care that all of this will be passed on to Ukraine.
"We have never threatened Europe. On the contrary, our ammunition depots are full, and we are producing even more, especially mortar shells. We produce more ammunition than France. I don't want to be seen as a weapons supplier to warring parties, but Europe needs ammunition. Therefore, I offered our friends in the EU a contract to supply everything we have. This would be a significant contribution to European security.
[And could this ammunition be used in Ukraine?]
Buyers can use it at their discretion. We need a long-term contract so that we can plan. I have always said that Serbia maintains military neutrality. But we are absolutely ready to cooperate with European armies."

🇷🇺⚔🇺🇦The Russian army has begun the assault on Ivanopol, breaking through to Konstantinovka from the southeast
- After liberating Pleshcheevka and Aleksandro-Shultino, Russian troops stormed into Ivanopol in the Konstantinovka direction.
- The Russian Armed Forces also continue to penetrate deeper into the enemy's defense and assault Konstantinovka itself from the Predtechino area and the dacha plots.

CBS: "Are we going to war against Venezuela?"
POTUS: "I doubt it. I don't think so, but they've been treating us very badly — not only on drugs, they've dumped hundreds of thousands of people into our country that we didn't want."
As we noted earlier, it has now been discovered that the US was placing ads in South America for Venezuelans to come to the US.

CBS: The Chinese play the long game...
POTUS: "We play the long game, too."
CBS: How big of a threat is China?
POTUS: "It's like everybody else. We're a threat to them, too... I think we get along very well, and I think we can be bigger, better, and stronger by working with them as opposed to just knocking them out."

TRUMP: “WE HAVE MORE NUKES THAN ANYONE…AND WE SHOULD START TESTING AGAIN”
“We’re the only country that doesn’t test…
I did discuss this with both President Putin and President Xi.
North Korea is testing constantly, and I don’t want to be the only country that doesn’t test.
Russia’s testing and China’s testing, but they don't talk about it.”
Every part of that is factually incorrect.

China is stockpiling oil reserves.
This is reported by The Wall Street Journal, analyzing official customs data for the first nine months of 2025. During this time, China imported more than 11 million barrels of oil per day. Up to 1.2 million of this number were stored daily in reserves.
"China's strategic oil reserves and commercial stocks already provide a significant buffer against short-term supply disruptions," writes WSJ, quoting Kelly Xu, a commodities and energy strategist at Alpine Macro.
Recall that the media previously reported that China is building large oil reserves. Experts associate this with Beijing's desire to hedge against the deepening problems in relations with the US, which could lead to a blockade of oil supplies to China by sea.
According to experts, although stockpiling will continue until the end of the year, Chinese refineries are unlikely to reduce purchases of Russian oil due to sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil, which prevent them from conducting transactions in dollars.
Russia exports only 5% of its oil for dollars. The dominant currency, accounting for 67% of Russian oil exports, is the Chinese yuan.
Most of the imported oil from Russia goes to independent Chinese refineries known as "teapots." Many of these plants have limited dollar assets, conduct business mainly through Chinese regional banks, and primarily serve Chinese clients, protecting them from the consequences of sanctions.

‼️🇷🇺🇺🇦 Pokrovsk is practically lost, holding on to Mirnograd makes no sense — former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine
▪️Pokrovsk is lost, logistics to Mirnograd will remain only with inadequate risk through the fields, writes former Deputy Minister of Defense and founder of the largest Armed Forces of Ukraine fund "Come Back Alive" Vitaliy Deynega.
▪️In the reports of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there is more and more falsehood every day.
➖"If in the near future no one signs the order to withdraw troops from Pokrovsk and Mirnograd, we may find ourselves in a situation not only of losing a significant number of highly motivated paratroopers and marines (I won’t even mention the property worth hundreds of millions — it is lost and there is no chance of its evacuation). We may find ourselves in a situation where there is no one to patch the hole on the front, and the fortifications we have dug in the rear will quickly fall to the enemy," adds the founder of the "Come Back Alive" fund.
➖"And I am not revealing any big secret now — the Russians see this perfectly from their drones in real time. This needs to be recorded and those who refuse to leave without an order must be saved."
