A bone conduction hearing device (also known commonly as a BAHA) works by transmitting sound vibrations through the bone. 🔆Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF):

✅It is a regional arrangement to build cooperation and economic integration in the Indo-Pacific region.
✅It was launched by United States President Joe Biden on May 23, 2022.
✅This framework is intended to advance resilience, sustainability, inclusiveness, economic growth, fairness, and competitiveness for member economies.
✅IPEF will seek to complement and build on existing regional architecture and support the global rules-based trading system.
✅It currently includes 14 partner countries: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam.
✅The economic framework broadly rests on four pillars:
🔸Trade
🔸Supply chain resilience
🔸Clean Energy, Decarbonization, and Infrastructure
🔸Taxes and anti-corruption measures
✅The IPEF is not a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), but it allows members to negotiate the parts they want to.

India and IPEF:

✅India has been actively participating in the IPEF, but not in all pillars.
✅India has decided to opt out of the trade pillar of the IPEF as most issues promoted by the IPEF do not align with India's trade policies

🔆Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) to organise Clean Economy Investor Forum in Singapore.

✅The IPEF Clean Economy Investor Forum brings together the region’s top investors, philanthropies, financial institutions, innovative companies, start-ups and entrepreneurs.

✅The Forum aims to mobilise investments into sustainable infrastructure, climate technology and renewable energy projects.

✅The Department of Commerce is the nodal agency for the IPEF engagements, and the IPEF Clean Economy Investor Forum is managed by Invest India.
The Forum will have opportunities for the Indian industry in the two following tracks.

✅Climate Tech Track: Climate tech entrepreneurs and companies in India may apply under this track and be presented to global investors.
🔰The Forum is holding an open call to recognise the top climate tech companies and start-ups among the member countries to this end.
🔰The top 100 companies will be announced in early May 2024 and shortlisted companies will be invited to showcase and pitch at the Investor Forum in Singapore in June 2024.

✅Infrastructure Track:
🔰Under this track, India will showcase selected investible sustainable infrastructure projects in focus sectors such as energy transition (e.g electric gird; renewable energy, including solar, and onshore wind; sustainable aviation fuel; battery storage; hydrogen; green data centres), transport and logistics (e.g. Electric Vehicle, EV charging points), waste management/waste to energy.

🔆Hydroelectric power projects with aggregate capacity of 15 GW under construction

✅India has overachieved its commitment made at COP 21 Paris Summit by achieving more than 40% of its installed power capacity from non-fossil fuels, almost nine years ahead of its commitment.

✅India is the only G20 country that has fulfilled all commitments it made in Paris on climate change.

✅Subsequent to this, India upgraded its commitments under Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in Glasgow COP26 and in August 2022 communicated its updated NDCs to UNFCCC

🔆Agni Prime

New generation Ballistic Missile Agni Prime Successfully flight tested by DRDO off the Odisha coast

📍Agni-Prime Missile:

✅It is a nuclear-capable new-generation advanced variant of the Agni class of missiles. It is a two-stage canisterised missile with a maximum range of 1,000 to 2,000 km.
✅It is lighter than all the earlier Agni series of missiles. It weighs at least 50 per cent less than the Agni 3 missile and has new guidance and propulsion systems.
✅It can be transported by road and rail and stored for longer periods, significantly reducing the time required for preparation and launch. The missile uses a cold launch mechanism and can be fired in salvo mode.

🔆Compulsorily Convertible preference shares

✅Compulsorily Convertible Preference Shares (CCPS) are a type of preference shares issued by a company with a mandatory conversion feature. These shares are a hybrid financial instrument that combines elements of both preference shares and convertible debentures

✅CCPS has precedence over common equity shareholders in two ways – before paying any dividends to equity shareholders, CCPS holders receive dividends, and if the company goes bankrupt and has to sell its assets, CCPS holders will receive a return on their capital on a priority basis when compared to the other shareholders.

✅In comparison to common equity holders, who get to vote on all resolutions, CCPS holders are generally limited to voting on matters affecting their rights as shareholders or matters affecting the rights of the class of shares that they hold, all of which are detailed in the shareholder agreements.

✅In its 63rd council meeting, International Sugar Organisation (ISO), headquartered in London, has announced India to be the Chair of the organisation for 2024

✅India has been the largest consumer and second largest producer of sugar in the world. With about 15% share in global sugar consumption and about 20% production of sugar, Indian sugar trends affects the global markets profusely

✅On technical side also, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur has is collaborating with many countries including Indonesia, Nigeria, Egypt, Fiji etc. for sharing the latest technologies in the sector and best practices.

🔆PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi)

✅PM SVANidhi is a central-sector micro-credit scheme launched on 1st June 2020 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to provide handholding support to street vendors.
✅The scheme facilitates a working capital collateral-free loan of ₹10,000, with subsequent loans of ₹20,000 and ₹50,000 with a 7% interest subsidy.
✅The scheme focuses on increasing the digital footprint in India by promoting the use of digital transactions among street vendors.
✅To incentivize the adoption of digital transactions, a cashback of up to ₹100 per month is given to Street Vendors.
✅The scheme aims to formalize the street vendors and open up new opportunities for this sector to move up the economic ladder.
✅A recent study by SBI has hailed the performance of the scheme stating that 43% beneficiaries are women street vendors. Moreover 44% of the PM SVANidhi beneficiaries belong to OBC category, while Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes account for 22%.
✅PM SVANidhi has helped promote ‘inclusive entrepreneurship’ and proven to be a gender equalizer.
