'Tensions are flaring over Belgium’s continued refusal to play ball with the EU’s plan to tap immobilised Russian assets.
➡️Last night, EU top diplomat Kaja Kallas mounted a forceful defence of the proposal in a private meeting with EPP lawmakers in Strasbourg, leaving several of them 'smarting.'
Belgian MEP Wouter Beke reiterated Prime Minister Bart De Wever’s concerns that fashioning a €140 billion loan for Ukraine would expose Belgium to unacceptable legal and financial risks.

“Secretary Driscoll and his team have been negotiating with the Russian side to secure a lasting peace in Ukraine. The talks are progressing well, and we remain optimistic. Driscoll is coordinating closely with the White House and other U.S. agencies,” said Lt. Col. Jeff Tolbert.
A source confirmed that a Ukrainian delegation led by GUR chief Budanov is also in Abu Dhabi, holding talks with both the Americans and the Russians. Ukrainian and Russian military intelligence chiefs were originally scheduled to meet on a different issue, and Driscoll’s sudden arrival forced a change of plans.
Axios notes that during the Geneva phase, Washington and Kiev agreed to remove broader geopolitical topics — NATO’s future, European security, and U.S.–Russia relations — to keep the agenda focused strictly on ending the conflict in Ukraine.

The EU’s latest attempt to regulate online child safety has shifted from mandatory to “voluntary” scanning of private messages, but experts warn the change is mostly semantic. After widespread protests and a lack of consensus, the Danish presidency removed explicit “detection orders” from the draft regulation, claiming providers would now only be asked to implement “risk mitigation measures” to prevent abuse on their platforms.

🇺🇦 A new piece by Washington Post columnist David Ignatius confirms earlier reports that Trump’s peace plan — at Kiev’s request — includes a clause on postwar amnesty.
According to Ignatius, this was added to “reassure Zelensky and his government members that they won’t face prosecution if the current corruption scandal expands.” In other words, Washington is shielding Kiev’s leadership from the consequences of its own graft.
The same article noted that Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council secretary Umerov, during recent talks in the U.S., signaled Kiev’s willingness to pull its forces out of the Donetsk region and agree to limits on the size of the Ukrainian military — though Umerov now denies approving anything.
Ignatius also writes that, due to Ukraine’s ongoing political instability, U.S. officials inserted a requirement for nationwide elections within 100 days of signing the agreement. According to the paper, the outcome of that vote would amount to a public ratification or rejection of the deal.
