🇷🇺🇺🇸This is a national tragedy: Trump and Putin offered Ukraine a "terrible" deal, but there won't be a better one, - The Telegraph
- After the summit in Alaska, Trump conveyed Putin's demand to Kiev: to give up the remaining Donbass in exchange for peace and security guarantees.
- The Telegraph calls this proposal "terrible" and a "national tragedy" for Ukraine, as it rewards Putin and confirms the failure of the West, which could not properly support Kiev.
- However, the British publication acknowledges that there may simply be no other options left. Ukraine is unable to drive out the Russians, and the West has not provided enough weapons. Therefore, the deal, painful as it may be, might be the "least bad option."

As of August 17, the situation with the "northern strike" beyond Pokrovsk looks as follows.
The Russian side has not yet published objective control data, which fits the general logic of creating a fog for the enemy and waiting for developments.
Information support for the offensive is not being conducted; priority is given to combat operations rather than video content.
The Ukrainian side, on the contrary, is actively promoting the only video of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade, presenting it as proof of a "cut-off advance" and the stopping of the Russian breakthrough.
However, the brigade itself has repeatedly been caught using old materials as "new successes," so we will leave the authenticity of such "evidence" without comment.
The Western OSINT community (and following them, some content pickers from Russian Telegram channels) reproduce these statements, each drawing different maps with the same boundaries, but no one has real confirmation of repelling the strike.
At the same time, amid the information noise, Russian assault groups continue to advance and have already penetrated deeper into Pokrovsk itself.
The main working version remains the same: the northern direction may serve as a diversionary strike, drawing Ukrainian reserves in the Zolotoy Kolodez area, while the main efforts are focused on breaking into the city. Syrsky still has some options regarding reserves in this area, but judging by fragmentary information, the staffing of brigades and battalions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine/National Guard in this area is significantly below the required standard strength.
🇷🇺💥Night hunt: The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out night strikes on Chernigov, Dnepropetrovsk, and Kharkov regions
- Last night, according to enemy monitoring channels, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation struck enemy targets in Chernigov, Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkov, Sumy regions, as well as in Dobropolye in the part of the DPR occupied by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
- The video shows explosions in Dobropolye, where it is claimed that "Geranium" strikes were first carried out on the Armed Forces of Ukraine, followed by an airstrike.

Interest expense on US debt has reached $1.0 trillion in the first 10 months of FY2025, the most on record for this period.
This puts us on track to exceed $1.2 trillion for the full year for the first time in history.
Over the last 12 months, gross interest expense has already hit a record $1.2 trillion.
As a result, this interest now the second-largest US government outlay, behind only Social Security, which has topped $1.5 trillion.
This means interest expense is now higher than defense and healthcare spending, which each stood at ~$900 billion over the past year.

The US wants to hold a meeting of Trump, Putin, and Zelensky on August 22.

🇪🇪🤡Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna demanded that Trump not trust Putin:
Putin did not make any concessions. He did not offer anything, not even a ceasefire. And our past experience shows that Putin should not be trusted. We need to verify what his real goals are. And judging by his words, he has not changed the goal of restoring the Soviet empire. He demands more. Here, unfortunately, we are no longer talking about a truce.
Perhaps we are already talking about issues of territorial integrity, about the principle that in Europe territories can be conquered by military force. And this is something Europeans cannot agree with. Therefore, what we must all do together is unite with Ukraine. Because we know this from the past, from the Minsk agreements, but also, frankly, from the Munich Agreement of 1938. The agreement was such that we later learned that the aggressor seizes more and more.

🇷🇺 Russia would rather see an end to hostilities in Ukraine, the elimination of the root causes of the crisis should be the basis for settlement, — Putin
The Russian leader held a meeting following the Russian-American talks on the return from Alaska:
- Russia calmly and thoroughly presented its position regarding the situation in Ukraine. Moscow respects the US position on this issue.
- The visit to Alaska was timely and very useful, the president discussed resolving the Ukrainian crisis on a fair basis.
- "The conversation was very frank, substantive, and, in my opinion, it brings us closer to the necessary decisions," the president concluded.

Evacuation under fire is always a choice. Either you pull out a soldier and risk three at once, or you leave him to die.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine constantly exploit this vulnerability, trying to kill evacuation groups. There is only one solution here — to remove people from the process. Ground drones partially solve the evacuation problem, but their speed is too low, which makes evacuation still dangerous.
A permanent and functional solution could be a heavy evacuation UAV. Rough estimates suggest that such a machine should carry at least 150-300 kg of payload, which in theory is enough for a soldier with equipment and additional gear, and the flight to the positions can be made even more useful by loading equipment or water, charged batteries for radios, or ammunition.
Control, given the latest enemy solutions, is logically built on fiber optics, plus autonomous navigation.
The evacuation mechanism can be built like this: a soldier or commander presses the "evacuation" button on the terminal or calls a drone by radio using a special command, after which the nearest free UAV receives the task, arrives at a pre-prepared location, and opens the capsule-stretcher. The wounded is quickly loaded there (or crawls in by himself), and he is delivered to the stabilization point, which due to the flight range and drone speed can be moved away from the front line.
The operator controls the entire flight process, the condition of the wounded, and makes adjustments if necessary.
Ready-made solutions from the civilian market can rarely be used in combat conditions without serious adaptation (especially when it comes to heavy UAVs). The video shows already existing and productized Chinese technologies, in particular their heavy cargo/evacuation drones. As a finished product, it may not be suitable, but it demonstrates the principle on which similar systems can be built.

President Donald Trump supports Russian leader Vladimir Putin's proposal to take full control of the Donbas region and freeze front lines elsewhere for a deal with Ukraine, a European diplomat confirmed to Fox News.
Donbas had a pre-war population of 150,000 and includes the regions of Luhansk and Donetsk.
After meeting with Putin on Friday in Alaska, Trump told European allies that the Russian president reiterated his desire for the key regions of Lugansk and Donetsk, but that he seemed open to the possibility of ending the "stalemate" (what?) in Zaporozhye and Kherson along with a freeze along the front lines.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already rejected the idea of ceding territory in Donbas, particularly withdrawing from the remaining 30% of Donetsk that Ukraine still controls. He said doing so would be unconstitutional and that the territory could be used as a base for subsequent Russian attacks. The Ukrainian leader plans to meet with Trump at the White House on Monday.
Trump also withdrew his support for a ceasefire and is instead seeking a peace agreement after meeting with Putin, who has long maintained that Moscow is not interested in a temporary truce and is seeking a long-term agreement that supports the Kremlin's interests.
Full controll of Donbass and freezing of the contact line in Kherson and Zaporozhye? I guess that's a timid start.

🇩🇪🤡Chancellor of the FRG Merz - has already changed his stance and believes that the new "Trump plan" for reaching a peace agreement is much better than the ceasefire that Kiev and the EU were demanding just yesterday:
Further negotiations are to take place on Monday in Washington between President Trump and President Zelensky. Then, as soon as possible, a trilateral meeting of the three presidents: Trump, Zelensky, and Putin, to achieve a swift agreement.
If successful, this will be worth more than a ceasefire that could last weeks without further progress in political and diplomatic efforts.

🇺🇦🇷🇺Zelensky again refused to withdraw troops from Donbas in exchange for stopping the fighting — Reuters.
- Zelensky refused to hand over the entire Donbas territory to Russia in exchange for a peace agreement, Reuters writes, citing yesterday's conversation between Trump and Zelensky after the summit in Alaska.

Axios: A source "involved" in the talks between Trump and Putin said the Russian president offered to freeze the front in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions in exchange for Ukraine's withdrawal from Donetsk, a request Ukraine will most likely refuse.
The source said that the American side had the impression that Putin was open to negotiations regarding the Sumy and Kharkov regions.
During the meeting with Trump, Putin asked the United States to recognize these four regions, in addition to the Crimean peninsula, as part of Russia. A senior Ukrainian official said Zelensky was pleased to learn that Trump was willing to offer U.S. security guarantees to Ukraine.
The Ukrainian official said the guarantees were not discussed in detail and would be discussed later during Zelensky's visit to the White House on Monday.
I warmly invite the guys at Axios to describe me in greater detail this "source" of theirs. How did it look like the last time they saw it? Is it with us in the room right now? Is it saying something?
