The IDF released a statement “deeply regretting” the “misfire” which resulted in the deaths and injuries at the Latin Church of the Holy Family.
Israel also “deeply regretted” firing at the USS Liberty when it “mistakenly misidentified” the ship as an Egyptian vessel.

🇺🇸🇩🇪 Bundesbank head says tariffs may crush hopes for growth of the German economy
The head of Germany's Bundesbank warned on Thursday that the high import tariffs U.S. President Donald Trump currently plans to impose on European goods risk wiping out even a modest recovery in Europe's largest economy in the coming years.
Germany is battling to stave off a third consecutive year of recession in 2025, but Trump's 30% tariff on goods imports from Europe would, if implemented, erase whole chunks of transatlantic commerce and force a rethink of its export-led economic model.
"If tariffs materialise in August, a recession in Germany in 2025 cannot be ruled out," Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel said.
The Bundesbank forecast a stagnation this year and slight growth of 0.7% in 2026, before the tariff rate was announced last week.
The projected growth for next year is no longer secure, with Nagel warning it could "possibly be completely eaten up by the tariffs that are now being discussed".
With European leaders hoping they can still win some kind of reprieve from Trump before his August 1 deadline, Nagel urged negotiators to aim for a significant reduction in the announced tariffs, which ideally should not be implemented at all. "That must be the goal."
Turning to any potential EU response if a deal is not reached, Nagel said all options should be considered, including the so-called anti-coercion instrument, which allows the bloc to retaliate against third countries that put economic pressure on EU members to change their policies.
The Bundesbank chief and ECB policymaker also issued a stark warning against interfering with the independence of central banks, following Trump's attacks on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

🇪🇸 The socialist government of Pedro Sanchez-Castejon said they will crackdown and prosecute the “far-right” groups after the 4 nights of violence in the town of Torre Pacheco against migrant crime.
The Spanish ministry of internal affairs said they created a task force which will investigate crimes of “terrorism”, “organised crime” and “hate crimes”. The ministry also said they will “closely monitor the internet” to sanction hate speech.
In a statement to the press Fernando Grande-Marlaska said: “we cannot allow hatred to take root in our society (…) criminality is not rising and it isn’t caused by migrants”.
Grande-Malarska also said the government will investigate possible ties between the ad-hoc nationalist groups in Torre Pacheco and the conservative VOX Party hinting at possible charges being brought against its leader, Santiago Abascal and other party members, for demanding the deportation of North Africans following the violence in Torre Pacheco.

🇫🇷 French Budget Is a ‘Ticking Bomb’ for Euro, ING’s Pesole Says
Angst around how France will control its swelling budget deficit is returning to financial markets and may start to dent demand for the euro, according to strategists at ING Groep NV.
The common currency touched its weakest level against the dollar in a month on Tuesday as France’s minority government revived political tensions with proposals to sharply rein in the deficit, including scrapping two national holidays.
While the currency move was largely dollar led, with US inflation data driving the greenback higher, it also sent a warning for investors about the political and fiscal challenges in the euro area’s second largest economy, currency strategist Franceso Pesole said.
“The French deficit story has been very much in the background as of late, but yesterday probably served as a reminder that it is a ticking bomb for EU sentiment,” he wrote in a note on Wednesday. “We could start seeing some FX spillovers in the coming months.”
Prime Minister Francois Bayrou’s €43.8 billion ($50.9 billion) plan to narrow the deficit risks another government collapse. With no majority in parliament and opposition parties opposed to the spending cuts and tax increases, he could be forced to resign in a no-confidence vote in the fall — the same fate that met his predecessor, Michel Barnier, in December.

🇪🇺🇷🇺 Igor Sushko on X: Europeans are selling 110-ton barrel forging machines to Russia, to help Russia mass produce tanks and artillery to murder Europeans.
"A Spanish firm has been linked to the delivery of a 110-ton forging machine to Russia, raising concerns about potential violations of international sanctions and Moscow’s efforts to sustain its artillery production amid the war in Ukraine, according to a report by Militarnyi.
Forward Technical Trade SL, based in Albacete, Spain, reportedly sold a used computer numerical control (CNC) forging machine to Russia’s AZK Group for $1.3 million. The equipment, manufactured in 1983 by Austrian company Gesellschaft für Fertigung (GFM), is capable of producing large-caliber artillery barrels, the report said."

🇺🇦🇷🇺 Amerikanets on X: The war is sometimes described in terms of the Russians having destroyed two or three "armies," in overlapping phases. The first army was the one Ukraine had in February 2022, which at that time already included donated western equipment, but was mostly comprised of Soviet and domestically produced systems. This army was equipped with AK pattern rifles, 152mm Soviet artillery pieces, MLRS systems like the Grad, T-64, T-72 and T-80 tanks, MiG-29s and Sukhois, and S-300, Buk, and other Soviet air defense systems.
This army was largely destroyed during 2022-2023. To better understand this, let's take Ukraine's T-72's as an example. The AFU operated around 100-150 of the type at the beginning of 2022, and probably had around that number of refurbishable hulls in storage, in various conditions. LostArmour (which maintains exceptionally high standards) counted 150 visually confirmed T-72 losses for the AFU by October of 2023. Add whatever percentage you feel comfortable with considering only some losses will be caught on video, and it's safe to assume the "first army's" operational T-72s were destroyed by the end of 2023.
Next we should consider the "second army," which was the one composed of Soviet military equipment donated by ex-Warsaw Pact countries. Again using the T-72 as an example, the AFU has received an astounding 580 of them, with around half coming from Poland, while the other half is a mixture of countries like North Macedonia and "Avenger" models modernized in the Czech Republic and paid for by countries like Denmark, the Netherlands, and even the US. It's safe to assume that not all of these tanks were in the best of condition, and some may have been sent in order to be cannibalized for parts or refurbished.
LostArmour counts 294 visually confirmed T-72 losses for the AFU since the war began. Again add whatever you think is appropriate for losses not caught on camera, and a good chunk of the "second army" has been attrited, but there should still be a few hundred T-72s remaining in it.
The third "army" is of course the one composed entirely of western equipment. This army is now, as Patricia shows, essentially destroyed. This army was smaller the first army in some dimensions, and much smaller than the second in nearly all dimensions except vehicles like MRAPs and MANPADS.
The phases of the war, with three overlapping armies suffering attrition, are easy to see when looking at the statistics. LostArmour helpfully provides a stacked bar chart showing western (blue) and Soviet (red) equipment losses over time. The large numbers of Soviet vehicles being destroyed in the initial phase represent the destruction of the bulk of the first army, the third army's losses cease at the beginning of 2025 as its last components are destroyed, while the steady trickle into the second army of donated Soviet equipment allows it to outlast the third army.

🇺🇸 These are all the excuses brought by “MAGA” influencers as to why the Jeffrey Epstein files is a story that should be forgotten and ignored:
- There are no files
- There are files, but they were altered by the Democrats, so releasing them would be playing into their hands
- The files exist and are authentic, but releasing them would destroy the country, so we can't do it
- Epstein wasn't an intelligence asset so it doesn't really matter
- Even if the files exist and it's all true, Epstein didn't really do anything wrong because if he didn't traffic those girls, someone else would have
- This all happened so long ago, it's time to move on
- We can’t release the files because we would release images and clips containing child sexual abuse material and it would be illegal
