🇷🇴⚖️ Motivating his decision to send the Vexler law to be reexamined by Parliament, president Nicușor Dan said:

“The law started by Mr. Vexler is adding on to another law which has taken effect already. I contested Vexler’s law at the Constitutional Court, asking the court to strike down half of the dispositions in this law because they are unconstitutional, an opinion which I still hold despite the Constitutional Court saying otherwise.

I still believe that leaving this ambiguity will be worse for society and will increase the tension between the two groups in society which we’ve seen form over the past year. When the Constitutional Court finishes writing the motivation for its decision, I shall send the law to the Parliament for reexamination”.

🇺🇸🇪🇺 Donald Trump pushes for 15%-20% minimum tariff on all EU goods

Donald Trump has escalated his demands in trade negotiations with the EU, pushing for a minimum tariff of 15 per cent to 20 per cent in any deal with the bloc, according to three people briefed on the talks.

The US president’s hardened stance aims to test the EU’s pain threshold after weeks of talks on a framework agreement that would have maintained a baseline tariff of 10 per cent on most goods.

Trump has also been unmoved by the latest EU offer to reduce car tariffs, and would be happy to keep duties on the sector at 25 per cent as planned, said people familiar with the negotiations.

Maroš Šefčovič, EU trade commissioner, gave a downbeat assessment of his recent talks in Washington to the bloc’s ambassadors on Friday, said two people briefed on the meeting.

If Trump insists on permanent reciprocal duties of 15 per cent to 20 per cent they would be as high as they were when trade talks began in April, and could push Brussels towards retaliation, said the senior EU diplomat. The US has also imposed sectoral tariffs of 50 per cent on EU steel and aluminium.

“We don’t want a trade war, but we don’t know if the US will leave us a choice,” they said.
A second EU diplomat added “the mood has clearly changed” in favour of retaliation. “We are not going to settle at 15 per cent,” they said.

📝: European industry, what wasn’t killed by Brussels’ stupid regulations and its dumb energy policies, relies on exports to the U.S. to make a profit. Without those exports, European industry either goes bankrupt or moves to other countries.

Trump’s intention is clear: force European industry to move to the U.S. which he will likely succeed in doing even if a 15% tariff is imposed, let alone a 20-25% or the original 30-35% tariffs announced.

Due to high energy prices, strict environmental regulations and workers’ rights European manufacturing is expensive. It cannot compete with Asian manufacturing, Chinese, Japanese, South Korean or Indian as all of the aforementioned countries produce more and far cheaper.

While stealing Europe’s industry may be beneficial on the short term for Trump as it will create new jobs for the U.S. economy, in the long run, it will make Europe weaker and even more reliant on the U.S. for defense which is not what Trump wanted.

Trump’s tariffs will crush Ursula von der Leyen’s plans of reestablishing European dominance on the world stage and set Europe on a path of political instability and unrest.

🇷🇴🔫🇺🇦 Romania wants to build drones in collaboration with Ukraine

The Romanian MoD is taking lessons from the war in Ukraine by developing a drone manufacturing industry in two steps:

🔶 Collaborating with the U.S. Periscope Aviation company and acquiring the license for several of its drone models to be manufactured at the Carfil Plant in Brașov

🔶 Developing a partnership with Ukraine and acquire the know-how and jointly build battlefield tested drones, to be built also at the Carfil Plant in Brașov.

The partnership with Ukraine will work like this: Kiev provides the intellectual property and know-how and Romania provides the factory and raw materials.

The MoD would like to acquire drones and form a stockpile and then start selling them to other countries.

Bolojan and his ministers continue to promise a “wonderful economic recovery” but they are cutting child support benefits. Who will benefit from this recovery? The people who will no longer be born because women will now have less incentives to become mothers? Or it will be the Gen Xers in the government who will import foreign workers to cover for the missing children as a result of their shortsighted policies?

🇺🇦☦️☦️ Metropolitan Epiphanius Dumenko of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) accuses the Romanian Patriarchate (BOR) of “ethnophyletism” and “breaking canonical rules” by trying to establish a bishopric in Northern Bucovina.

In what can only be described as a hypocritical confession of the exact things he’s been doing, the head of the OCU said:

“Our path towards autocephaly was long, arduous and full of sacrifices. No one has the right to deny us this status”.

Dumenko invoked the 1872 Synod of Constantinople which condemned phyletism. The condemnation came, at the time, during the Bulgarian struggle for independence and the decision of several Bulgarian clerics to break away from Constantinople and form the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. The Synod of 1872 expressly stated that the church must not be conflated with the nation.

Dumenko drew a parallel from that struggle and equated it to his own, and accused BOR of violating this Synod by seeking to establish a bishopric where Romanians are not persecuted, which is ironic and extremely hypocritical from Dumenko and the OCU considering he broke off from the historical and canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) because it was under the jurisdiction of Russia in 1992, with Dumenko wanting to create a solely Ukrainian church without Russian supervision.

Dumenko then threatened to continue the persecution of Romanian Orthodox Christians in Ukraine if they do not adhere to his OCU.

🇷🇺☦️☦️ The Russian Metropolis of Chișinău and Moldova seized the church in the village of Grinăuți, Râșcani district, and forcefully kicked out the local priest because he moved his parish from the Metropolis of Chișinău and Moldova to the Romanian Metropolis of Bessarabia

This is an escalation of the ongoing dispute over the canonical and rightful control over the territory of the Republic of Moldova, disputed between the Moscow Patriarchate and the Romanian Patriarchate.

Unlike in Ukraine where Moscow and Constantinople (the jurisdiction over Ukraine) are in a schism, Bucharest and Moscow are not so parishes leaving a church for the other have no consequences whatsoever for the spiritual health of the parishioners who will not lose communion with God. The only change is political, as the priest and parishioners will exchange a bishop for another.

The priest also cannot move his church from a jurisdiction to another without the consent of the parishioners.

The hierarchs of the Metropolis of Chișinău and Moldova have tried in the past to seize a church belonging to the Metropolis of Bessarabia but they couldn’t get through the lock on the front door.

Moscow and Bucharest have an agreement signed in 1992 establishing “peaceful coexistence” in the Republic of Moldova, with the Romanian Patriarchate, despite having the right to receive the churches the USSR seized and then gave to the Moscow Patriarchate, choosing to build new churches rather than ask for the existing ones to be returned or for compensation.

This seizure is a major violation of the 1992 agreement.

🇷🇴💧⚡️ Revolt in the town of Lungulețu, Dâmbovița county, after a local farmer was detained and fined for watering his garden

The town of Lungulețu sits on the Dâmbovița river which passes through the Romanian capital, Bucharest.

The national company, “Apele Române” (Romanian Waters) is worried about the low level of water in the Dâmbovița river and warned that the capital, Bucharest, may be left without water so they heavily restricted the use of water from the Dâmbovița river in all other towns and villages where the river passes by.

This led to the detention and fining of the man who watered his crops with water from the river with Apele Române accusing the man of “stealing water” which sparked outrage from townsfolk.

🇷🇺🇧🇦🇲🇩 Investigative report by Balkan Insights exposes secret Russian-run paramilitary camps in Bosnia and Serbia training Moldovans to destabilize Moldova’s 2024 election. Key figures include Kremlin-linked Wagner operatives and pro-Russian politician Ilan Shor, now a fugitive in Russia.

Moldovan authorities arrested several Moldovans carrying drones, VR gear, and explosive manuals after suspect training in the Balkans. Despite Bosnian denials, evidence points to covert Russian efforts to incite unrest ahead of Moldova’s presidential vote.

The operation is under active investigation, with prosecutors working to uncover links and prosecute those involved. Moldova’s Security Intelligence Service tipped off authorities, helping disrupt the plot. Prosecutors say the effort can be traced back to pro-Russian politician Ilan Shor, currently living in Russia.

Bosnia’s security ministry initially denied the existence of paramilitary camps on its territory, stating it received no official complaints from Moldova and criticized media reports as political showdowns. However, Bosnia has now opened its own investigation into the allegations.

The training sites are located in Republika Srpska, the Serb-run and pro-Russian entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The central Bosnian government (Bosniak-Croat) has denied any involvement or knowledge of the camps.

🇷🇴🇳🇱 The Romanian government has accused the Dutch shipbuilder, Damen Holding B.V. of “faking debts” and embezzling 55 million EURs from the Mangalia Shipyard which led to its closure and layoff of 1500 employees.

What happened, according to the Romanian ministry of the economy is that Damen Holding B.V, who owned a 49% stake in the Mangalia Shipyard meaning they weren’t the legal owners of the shipyard rather they were let in charge by the Romanian government according to a 2017 deal for a private-public partnership whereby Bucharest leased 2% of its shares to Damen to secure contracts and work for the shipyard, used this power over the dockyard to buy services and other goods from its subsidiary companies even though cheaper alternatives were available in Romania or neighbouring countries.

These contracts whom the ministry of the economy says were illegal, led Damen to declare the bankruptcy of the Mangalia shipyard in 2024 and jeopardise the economy of the city of Mangalia.

The ministry of the economy also alleges that Damen cannot reveal how those contracts were calculated and thus cannot prove part of the 55 million EUR debt the Mangalia shipyard obtained, with the ministry of the economy suspecting the debts were much lower in reality.

The ministry of the economy reiterated that it asked the company dozens of times to allow the insolvency administrator to independently audit several transactions with the company repeatedly blocked the audit of.

Damen Holding B.V. defended its behaviour claiming they abided by their obligations as negotiated with Romania in 2017.

These accusations come after Damen’s managers in the Netherlands are under criminal investigation by the Royal Dutch Police for bribery, forgery, money laundering and breaking the sanctions regime against Russia. Damen also has financial troubles and they’ve recently applied for and received 270 million EURs in state aid from the Dutch government. They would receive even more from the bankruptcy settlement of the Mangalia Shipyard.

The funds were cut because successive Romanian governments failed to sign contracts in due time for these motorways. Only the A7 motorway was partially built from Ploiești to the city of Bacău with some segments still under construction.

Remember how the EU was going to cut EU funds only if George Simion was elected president?

🇷🇴⚡️🇷🇴 A supposed criminal registration file from the communist era shows a relative of Nicușor Dan being part of the Iron Guard!

According to the file, Ioan Dan, allegedly Nicușor's grandfather was jailed in 1954 at the Codlea Penitenciary, the closest to Nicușor's home city, Făgăraș.

Here are a few details obtained from the criminal registration file:

🔶 Ioan was born in 1902 in Făgăraș, son of Ioan and Maria.

🔶 At 22 years old in 1924, he served in the military, earning the rank of Sergeant.

🔶 At the time of his arrest, he was a farmer. He was declared "apolitical" but "legionary" in the past.

🔶 Despite being declared apolitical at the time of the arrest, his reason for being jailed was "conducting legionary activity".

📝: The file seems legitimate, since it would otherwise be a huge coincidence, given that both Ioan and Nicușor have the same last name and were born in the same city, which had a population of less than 5.000 when Ioan was born.

🇪🇺🇷🇴 The European Union put sanctions on Victoria Furtună, the president of the “Greater Moldova” Party, a pro-Russian, socially conservative and leftist political formation.

Furtună expressed irredentist views and openly supports the annexation of lands belonging to Romania and Ukraine and build a “Greater Moldova” and “restore” the 15th century borders of the Principality of Moldavia.

Strangely enough, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs bans the mayor of Chișinău, Ion Ceban, journalist Natalia Morari and former Moldovan premier, Vasile Tarlev from entering Romania and the wider Schengen Area before sanctioning Furtună who outright laid claim to Romanian lands.

Reminder that the concept of a “Greater Moldova” as a separate country from Romania originated during WW2 with Ukrainians and Jews in the Moldovan Communist Party seeking to dismantle and break apart the Kingdom of Romania because of its alliance with Nazi Germany and its hostility toward the Soviet Union. The concept never came to fruition because the dictator of the USSR, Joseph Stalin, never supported the idea.

🇷🇴🔫⚡️ Romania has a brand new carbine!

Defense companies STIMPEX S.A. and Fabrica de arme Cugir, revealed their brand new carbine: CN-24 “Avram Iancu” building on top of their previous prototype, the CN-20.

It is chambered in the 5.56x45mm NATO standard cartridge.

Last week, there were several news articles talking about a new acquisition program for small arms for the Romanian Army.

In 2024 people celebrated a partnership between the Fabrica de Arme Cugir and the Beretta Factory where Romania would obtain and produce the licensed ARX-160 assault rifle, the ARX-200 Marksman rifle and the PX4 pistol.

The employees of the Cugir factory went to Italy for training last winter and should begin manufacturing the weapons already according to information published last years, however the partnership may be on hold. Last year the employees went on strike complaining that the management of the Cugir Factory was not finding contracts for the employees which was leaving them out of work.

There were talks between Cugir and the Heckler&Koch company to manufacture some of their firearms but talks ended inconclusively.

Now the CN-24 Avram Iancu is the latest firearm the Cugir Arms Factory is working on.

Remains to be seen which company will the Romanian MoD select to supply the army with weapons.

✡️🇷🇴 Maximilian Katz head of Romania’s Center for Monitoring and Combating Antisemitism, told the Jewish News Syndicate that President Nicușor Dan “pushed Romanian Jews into a highly stressful situation,” by refusing to promulgate the Vexler law.

Katz said that the president’s decision to review the law invites antisemitic discourse. Challenging the legislation puts Romanian Jews in a position where “we need to constantly explain and defend our right to not live with a constant outpouring of hate. Whenever we explain this, a new wave of hatred erupts, and in this case, it’s happening already,”

📝: Can any of these Jews point out where this hatred is ? Because there is certainly more hate towards them now after the Vexler law was passed than it was before.

Antisemitism is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Every measure taken to “combat it” only serves to draw attention and add fuel this phenomenon. And the cycle continues, new antisemitism laws are introduced with harsher punishments with even more hate towards Jews being generated.

If they were humble and would mind their own business no one would care.

Last year, the Jewish-Romanian professor of mathematics, Liviu Ornea, remarked to a New York Times journalist that “if they [the Jews] would try to cancel all fascist [in Romania]” Romanian culture would “be left only with Nadia Comăneci and Dracula”.

The Vexler law is exactly this: an attempt to cancel hundreds of historical personalities, Romanian heroes because they are inconvenient to Jews. If the anti communist partisans fall, so will other people like Mihai Eminescu, Vasile Alecsandri, Nicolae Paulescu, Nicolae Iorga any and every person who said a mean thing about Jews once.
