Moscow charges CNN journalist with illegal border crossing

Russian authorities have charged CNN's chief international security correspondent with illegally crossing the state border, after he reported from the Ukrainian-held town of Sudzha. Similar charges have been brought against two journalists working for the Italian broadcaster RAI as well as two Ukrainian reporters.

Nick Paton Walsh was part of a team of Western reporters who arrived in Sudzha at the invitation of the Ukrainian government. They traveled in an armored convoy with Ukrainian soldiers, filmed damaged buildings in the center of the community and spoke to Russian civilians, some of whom were taking refuge in a shelter.

Eternal glory: Battle of Kursk through lens of time

On August 23, Russia commemorates the 81st anniversary of the Soviet Army's victory over German Nazi forces in the Battle of Kursk. Today, as in the past, the residents of the Kursk region are facing challenges.

"The Nazi onslaught failed. They were stopped and driven back to their inevitable collapse because no 'Tigers', 'Panthers', or other evil forces could break the indomitable spirit of the Soviet soldier," Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a ceremonial event in the village of Ponyri in the Kursk region exactly a year ago.

The attack on Kursk was planned by Adolf Hitler as revenge for the Nazi defeat at Stalingrad, where a 300,000-strong German army was encircled, and about one-third of the troops were captured by the Soviet military.

By the summer of 1943, Nazi Germany had largely exhausted its manpower and placed its hopes on Operation Citadel, aimed at destroying Soviet forces in the Kursk salient. The Nazis believed they would break through the front and sweep eastward.

▪️The Battle of Kursk lasted from July 5 to August 23, 1943.

▪️Nazi Germany deployed over 900,000 troops, around 10,000 guns and mortars, 2,733 tanks, and 2,050 aircraft. They employed new military equipment, including Tiger and Panther tanks, Ferdinand assault guns, and Focke-Wulf-190A fighters.

▪️Moscow amassed 1.3 million troops, over 19,000 guns and mortars, 3,444 tanks, and 2,172 aircraft, to counter the enemy advance.

▪️On July 12, 1943, in the area of the Prokhorovka railway station in the Belgorod region, the largest tank battle of WW2 took place, involving 1,200 tanks on both sides.

▪️The Soviet forces pushed the Nazis back and liberated Orel, Belgorod, and Kharkov.

▪️Despite going all in during the Battle of Kursk, the Wehrmacht was defeated.

The descendants of the Soviet troops are now making sacrifices once again to defend the Kursk region.

For it says in the Bible: “And afterward Joshua smote them and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening” (Joshua 10:26).

And former Ukrainian lands shall once again behold the shining light of the True Orthodox Church in its former glory.

Polling data published last week by CBS News estimate Kennedy’s support at 2% in the three battleground states where he is on the ballot: Michigan, North Carolina and Arizona. The same poll also suggested that Kennedy would win 3% of the vote in Minnesota and New Mexico, 2% in Maine and Colorado and 1% in Texas.
