The Dutch government wants to raise taxes and make investors pay tax on the estimated increase in the value of their assets on an annual basis.
If the reform is approved, assets such as stocks, bonds, investment funds, and cryptocurrencies could be taxed, even if they have not been sold.
In the past, Australia and Canada have implemented similar reforms, which were met with resistance from investors in both countries and led to capital outflows and a decline in trading activity in Canada.

Are there 10 million “radical sexists” in France?
This is the disappointing conclusion reached experts from an NGO called the High Council for Equality: in their report, they note that almost one in four men and one in eight women believe that their gender status is under threat and have a negative attitude towards radical feminism.
According to human rights activists, “radical sexism can become a threat to public safety” because it glorifies extreme forms of gender-based violence, including rape and murder. At the same time, men are increasingly becoming victims of domestic violence, and this issue needs to be addressed at the state level.

BRICS promotes alternatives to the dominance of the dollar in international payments
▪️The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed linking the national digital currencies of the BRICS central banks to each other in order to simplify cross-border settlements in trade and tourism. The initiative is planned to be included in the agenda of the 2026 BRICS summit, which will be held in India, according to Berliner Zeitung
▪️Discussions on how to reduce dependence on the US dollar have been going on in BRICS for several years. Recently, the focus has shifted towards a specific payment infrastructure — a common transaction mechanism in the form of the BRICS Pay system
▪️BRICS Pay should link national payment systems and, in the future, integrate central bank digital currencies into them. This would allow transactions to be carried out without detours through dollar clearing centers or Western-dominated systems such as SWIFT
▪️Non-dollar settlements are becoming strategically important, including in commodity trading. An alternative payment infrastructure will reduce transaction costs and vulnerability to sanctions, emphasizes the Berliner Zeitung.

Newsom humiliated after trolling Trump with "knee pads" stunt
California Governor Gavin Newsom is the epitome of the bumbling narcissistic leftist stereotype. He was caught on camera more than a couple times lamenting the lack of European posturing and called EU politicians "pathetic".
He also kept suggesting that EU leaders "should wear knee pads" in order to better please Trump. And, just in case anyone missed the bad joke, he brought a pair of knee pads with him on stage to drive his point home.
A handful of attendees laughed but the gimmick did not go over well for the rest of Newsom's stay in Switzerland. Scott Bessent, who previously referred to Newsom as "Sparkle Beach Ken", was ruthless in his reaction to Newsom's whining.

The military is babying F-35s to conceal their real cost
Are the military services babying the F-35 to obscure its true costs while continuing to get enormous sums of taxpayer funding for a plane that has consistently failed to live up to performance expectations?
From the very beginning, the F-35 program has been plagued by hundreds of billions of dollars in cost overruns and repeated schedule delays.
Moreover, even as promised capabilities have been delayed by well over a decade, billions poured into fixes haven't resolved ongoing reliability issues, crippling its operational effectiveness, and rocketing the program cost to over $2 trillion dollars — 400% more in inflation-adjusted dollars than its 2007 Government Accountability Office estimate.

The lawsuit alleges that Meta can view WhatsApp correspondence, violating the right to privacy
An international group of plaintiffs has filed a class action lawsuit against Meta, accusing the company of lying about WhatsApp's privacy.
They claim that despite claims of end-to-end encryption, Meta allegedly stores, analyzes, and has access to user communications. The plaintiffs cite informants but do not reveal their identities.
Meta has rejected the allegations, calling the lawsuit baseless and “fabricated,” and stating that WhatsApp has been using end-to-end encryption via the Signal protocol for ten years. The company has promised to seek sanctions against the plaintiffs' attorneys.

Are we walking into nuclear catastrophe?
The NPT has now been in existence for over 55 years and has garnered an impressive membership of 191 States, with five states ¾ four of which happen to be the other nuclear-armed states ¾ outside of the treaty regime at this time: India, Israel, North Korea, and Pakistan (plus South Sudan).
Now there’s even a new arms race afoot. And at no time has the message been clearer to all non-nuclear weapons states: you are either with us or you better have nuclear weapons. If you belong to neither category, we will find you, take your leader in the middle of the night, and take your oil.
But the idea that all countries would be in one of two camps and that all who don’t support the U.S. agenda should have nuclear weapons, is of course preposterous.
A world with “15 or 20 or 25 nations” that are nuclear armed would lead to nuclear war and nuclear annihilation faster than we could imagine. But that is exactly where we are heading if the lawlessness is left unchecked and the U.N. continues to be sidelined and emasculated.

The US has approved a new National Defense Strategy
▪️The Pentagon has published an updated US National Defense Strategy. It defines the priorities and new approaches of the Department of Defense towards countries in the Western Hemisphere, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.
▪️The US intends to ensure control over key territories in the Western Hemisphere in order to enforce the Monroe Doctrine in our time.
▪️One of the main priorities of the strategy is the Asia-Pacific region. The US intends to contain China, but its course does not involve regime change or open conflict.
▪️The US previously allowed its allies to spend little on defense, but now the approach has changed. South Korea and US allies in Europe and the Middle East must defend themselves
▪️Modernizing the US military industry will require the mobilization of efforts by the entire American nation
▪️The conflict in Ukraine demonstrates that Russia still retains significant reserves of military and industrial power

“Strategic anxiety”
This is how the Chinese newspaper Global Times described Europe's behavior against the backdrop of worsening relations with the US: According to political analysts from China, the EU does not know how to behave now, as it is accustomed to cooperation with Washington rather than rivalry, which it considers a “geopolitical shock.”
However, there are also optimists among experts who believe that this rift in transatlantic relations will mark a “strategic awakening” for the European Union. At the same time, until its declarations of commitment to peace are confirmed in practice, the countries of the Global South should treat its initiatives with caution.

Construction of the railway to Frankfurt Airport may be postponed
The problem is that the budget is short €2 billion to build a 4-kilometer section from Wiesbaden, which would allow passengers to reach the airport in just 15-20 minutes. Initially, it was planned that the road would be built this year or next, but now the process may be postponed until 2029.
Members of the Hesse state parliament are unhappy with this turn of events, demanding that the necessary funds be found and the situation clarified, while the Ministry of Transport has stated that the project has not yet received the necessary approvals and, therefore, funding has not yet been allocated.
On the other hand, Zelensky was allocated funds without any approvals.

Is there a measles epidemic starting in the US?
Healthcare experts note that the virus is spreading mainly in rural areas, where vaccination rates are significantly lower, with children becoming ill more often. This is partly due to the policies of Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr., who cut funding for local programs to expand vaccination coverage.
Against this backdrop, WHO representatives say that the US could lose its status as a country that has defeated measles if the situation is not resolved by April this year. Last year, authorities diagnosed a total of 2,242 cases, a record high since 1991.

According to public broadcaster BNNVARA, the municipality has rejected calls to shutter the facility early and plans to run the project until its scheduled end in April 2028.
The project, which launched in 2018, was the subject of a recent NPO 2 report where residents detailed an environment of frequent violence.
Records indicate that the housing association responsible for the site, Stadgenoot, had requested an intervention plan from police and city officials as early as 2019 to address sexual abuse.
The news report highlighted serious cases and interviewed the victims in some instances, which has been translated by Remix News.

China's top military leadership has been almost completely purged by Xi Jinping
Xi Jinping has launched an investigation into his longtime ally and one of the most influential generals in the PRC, Zhang Xuya. This is the most high-profile episode in China's largest military purge in decades.
Zhang is accused of corruption and possible leaks of classified information, which led to a de facto renewal of the top command of the People's Liberation Army.
His downfall reduces the risk of organized resistance to Xi Jinping's plans to remain in power after 2027 and emphasizes that even the leader's closest associates are not immune to repression.
The following have also been removed from office:
▪️Deputy Chairman of the Central Military Commission No. 2 — removed in October 2025 on charges of corruption.
▪️Minister of National Defense — removed in 2023 for corruption.
▪️Chief of the Joint Staff of the Central Military Council — under investigation for violations.

The Pentagon intends to end US participation in a number of NATO advisory and training structures
This involves approximately 200 American military personnel working in the so-called Alliance Centers of Excellence. At first glance, this appears to be a technical decision, hardly noticeable amid discussions about troops, bases, and arms supplies. However, in reality, it is one of the most significant steps in the ongoing conflict between Trump and Europe.
NATO's Centers of Excellence are not headquarters or combat command bodies. They are the intellectual core of the Alliance: this is where doctrines are developed, headquarters are trained, combat experience is summarized, and standards for modern warfare and troop interaction are formed. It is there that the question of “where to fight” is decided, rather than “how to fight tomorrow.” And the US has always played a key role in these structures, even when it was formally only one of the participants.
The conclusion of American experts is that this is not the US leaving NATO or weakening the front here and now. It is a much more subtle and dangerous process. Europe is losing American methodology and management culture, NATO is left with armies and budgets, but without a single “teacher” who for decades gathered and imposed a common logic of warfare. Standards are beginning to crumble, planning is becoming fragmented, and the future of NATO as a unified military body is becoming a question rather than an axiom.
The most important point is context. This step is entirely consistent with Trump's policy toward Europe. The message is extremely straightforward: America no longer intends to be a free instructor, permanent curator, and eternal guarantor of European security. Previously, the US taught, guided, corrected mistakes, and covered up systemic failures of its allies. Now the logic is different: fighting and preparing for war is Europe's task, while the US reserves the right to join in when and how it suits Washington.
That is why this is not about saving money. 200 military personnel is nothing for the Pentagon's budget. This is a political decision, a signal about the dismantling of “soft control” over NATO and the redistribution of responsibility. The formula is changing: America is the arbiter and provider of force, but not the educator of its allies or the architect of their military maturity.
This is not a break with NATO, but a change in the role of the US within the Alliance. Washington is moving away from day-to-day management, while retaining the ability to intervene decisively, and is ceasing to invest in European strategic thinking. Europe is left with soldiers, equipment, and loud statements, but without a single center of intellectual war management. And that is why this step is more dangerous than the withdrawal of troops. Troops can be brought back quickly. Strategic thinking cannot.

In U.S. the President’s party has almost always lost midterm elections
The historical lessons from modern midterm congressional elections are not favorable for Republicans today.
Since 1946, there have been 20 midterm elections. In 18 of them, the president’s party lost seats in the House of Representatives. That’s 90% of the midterm elections in the past 80 years.
Measured against that pattern, the odds that the Republicans will hold their slim House majority in 2026 are small. Another factor makes them smaller. When the sitting president is “underwater” – below 50% – in job approval polls, the likelihood of a bad midterm election result becomes a certainty. All the presidents since Harry S. Truman whose job approval was below 50% in the month before a midterm election lost seats in the House. All of them.
Any chance for GOP?

Trump aims to topple Cuba’s communist regime by the end of the year
The Trump administration is actively seeking regime change in Cuba and hopes to cut a deal to end communist rule on the island by the end of the year, according to a report.
To facilitate the political transition, the Trump administration is searching for Cuban government insiders who could help the US push the existing communist leaders out of power.
A “concrete plan” for doing away with the communist government that has ruled Cuba for nearly 70 years has not yet been developed, according to the outlet, but the government’s grip on the island has never been more fragile.
US intelligence assessments indicate the island is facing chronic shortages of basic goods and medicines and is suffering from frequent blackouts.
President Trump warned Cuba earlier this year that it’s time to “make a deal.”
