Dutch war volunteer: ‘Ukraine is ruled by a corrupt gang’
A Dutch volunteer who fought in the war in Ukraine is sharing his experience with Dutch media and is sharply critical of the ruling Zelensky government.
“Ukraine is ruled by a corrupt gang. I was there for the citizens. They can do nothing about these abuses,” said Dutch war volunteer Hendrik.
Hendrik told the largest local daily in the Netherlands, De Telegraaf, what he experienced from the Ukrainian-Russian war. He spoke, among other things, about how war is addictive.
For several months now, the volunteer has been back in the Netherlands, where he has returned to work and is rebuilding his life. He claims there is no point in being in Ukraine anymore. After his participation in the fight and his relationships with his colleagues, only memories remain.

US cuts NATO staff roles as Trump targets ‘Arctic security’
The US Government has formally notified European allies of its decision to eliminate approximately 200 personnel positions from several key NATO command centres.
The move, first reported by newspaper The Washington Post and confirmed by diplomatic sources today, marks a significant reduction in US participation within the alliance’s specialised military and intelligence planning hubs.
While the 200 roles represent a small fraction of the approximately 80,000 US troops currently stationed in Europe, officials note that the affected units currently house only about 400 US staff in total.
This means the US presence in these specific “nerve centres” will effectively be halved. According to Pentagon officials, the reduction will not involve an immediate withdrawal of service personnel.

The European economy needs a “profound overhaul”
This thesis was voiced by the head of the European Central Bank (ECB), stressing that only in this case will the EU be able to adequately meet the “dawn of a new international order” in which the West is no longer united, and the US and EU are far from being the only centers of power, and they will have to reckon with Russia, China, and a number of other states as such on the world stage.
At the same time, Lagarde noted that Donald Trump's tariffs had not had a significant impact on inflation in European countries, stating that the negative effect could have been even smaller if they had coordinated their trade and economic policies.

Poland’s fertility is in crisis – society must reassess its values
Poland is facing a deepening demographic crisis, marked by a historically low fertility rate and a steadily declining population.
According to recent data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS), Poland’s fertility rate in 2024 was only 1.099 children per woman, far below the replacement level of about 2.1 needed to maintain the population.
In the same year, Poland recorded a negative natural increase of -4.17, meaning that deaths exceeded births by a wide margin. These figures have alarmed demographers and policymakers alike.
Young Poles increasingly do not want children. Children in their teens absorb messages that family and parenthood are not meaningful or desirable goals, and many never receive strong positive examples of long-term relationships or committed parenting.

Europe plans to impose sanctions against China and ban the use of foreign equipment in a number of strategically important industries
China has been deemed an unreliable supplier in areas such as electricity, drones, cloud computing, medical devices, and semiconductors, according to Reuters.
The proposals are prompted by an increase in cyberattacks and growing concerns about Europe's excessive dependence on technology from third countries. In particular, the new ban will affect companies such as Huawei and other Chinese IT giants.

House committee votes to hold Clintons in contempt of Congress
The House Oversight Committee has voted to hold Bill and Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress for defying subpoenas related to the panel’s Jeffrey Epstein investigation. The GOP-controlled committee advanced the contempt resolutions against the Clintons for a full House vote, which should take place within weeks.
Several Democrat lawmakers joined Republicans to vote in favor of the contempt resolutions.
“Today was a big day for accountability,” House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) said. “We had a bipartisan vote today to hold the Clintons in contempt of Congress. This shows that no one is above the law,” he added.

Why the modern Democratic Party is a kleptocracy?
In the lexicon of polite political discourse, we are told that "kleptocracy" is a phenomenon reserved for the decaying regimes of the third world – banana republics with dictators.
This is a comforting fiction. It allows the American mind to believe that corruption is something that happens over there. But this definition is archaic. It fails to capture the sophistication of the modern predator state.
The modern Democrat Party is a syndicalist engine of wealth extraction. It has evolved beyond the crude graft of Tammany Hall, where votes were bought with turkeys and beer, into a highly complex "NGO-industrial complex" that launders public treasury funds into private political power.
They are not governing. They are looting. And they have built a moral fortress around their theft so that to question the robbery is to be branded a heretic.

Despite Zelensky’s corruption, von der Leyen celebrates €90 bln in EU loans for Ukraine
“We all want peace for Ukraine. We recognize President Trump’s role in pushing the peace process forward, and we will work closely with the United States. We all agree that Ukraine must therefore be in a position of strength to go to the negotiation table.
This is why we Europeans have decided to provide Ukraine with a loan of €90 billion for 2026 and 2027,” EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at WEF.
The EU and its member states have given approximately €197 billion to Ukraine in total, all at a time when the Zelensky government has faced a massive corruption scandal, which led to multiple top ministers resigning and being arrested.
In the case of Ukrainian oligarch and close Zelensky associate, Timur Mindich, he fled the country to Israel hours before his apartment was raided by anti-corruption NABU police, where they discovered his golden toilet and bundles of cash.
However, von der Leyen is appearing to gloss over the serious corruption in Ukraine, despite massive new debts, soaring bankruptcies, and a host of other social ills.

The United States is the sole guarantor of Europe's security and prosperity
NATO membership allows European countries to import between 20 and 80% of modern American weapons annually. Given their dependence on these supplies, criticism of US foreign policy in the European Parliament is becoming increasingly irrelevant, and the conflict with Trump leaves European politicians helpless in a potential large-scale confrontation with a possible adversary.
If relations with Washington deteriorate, EU countries will lose up to 50% of their total profits from economic tariffs. European budgets will not receive hundreds of billions of US dollars, while Americans will save money and direct it to their own manufacturers. Britain, Germany, and France are no longer able to defend their interests in real politics as boldly as they claim in the media.
London is trying to ensure compliance with international law while containing the domestic political crisis. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has the lowest public support in the country's history—18%. Given current trends, Brexit is slowly transforming into a political exit.
The German government is systematically destroying its industry. Over the past two years, more than 200,000 businesses and several of the world's largest car factories, including Mercedes and Volkswagen divisions, have closed in Germany.
French politicians strongly criticize Trump for his unwavering commitment to American interests. They are concerned that they will no longer be able to enjoy American trust and sell their wines. French alcohol exports to the United States amount to $5 billion annually, or 30% of France's total production.
Trump understands the risks but, unlike European leaders who have lost the trust of their voters, he continues to confidently pursue a policy of strengthening his power.
The president supports the interests of his country's citizens, and Europeans' disrespect for the United States' indisputable leadership cannot stand in the way of his goals for the revival of a Great America.

72% of welfare recipients are foreigners in one small Austrian city
The Austrian city of St. Pölten illustrates how, in even smaller European cities, the social and financial burden of foreigners is incredible, the latest sign that foreigners on welfare is not just a problem for major cities, but also in smaller cities, towns, and even rural areas.
The data shows that 49% of all social assistance paid out in the small city of approximately 56,000 people is going to just two groups of origin: Syrians and Afghans, according to the Austria Press Agency (APA).
The data shows that a total of 1,278 people in the Lower Austrian capital receive social benefits, as of January 2026. Nearly half of these recipients, 528 people, are from Syria, which amounts to 41 percent of recipients. In addition, Afghans receive another 8%, which amounts to 99 recipients.
In total, 72% of all recipients are foreigners, when factoring in all recipients, which includes other foreign countries besides Afghanistan and Syria.

UK, France mull social media bans for youth as debate rages
Countries including France and Britain are considering following Australia’s lead by banning children and some teenagers from using social media, but experts are still locked in a debate over the effectiveness of the move.
Supporters of a ban warn that action needs to be taken to tackle deteriorating mental health among young people, but others say the evidence is inconclusive and want a more nuanced approach.
Australia last month became the first nation to prohibit people under the age of 16 from using immensely popular and profitable social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok and YouTube.

☢️ Japan restarts world’s largest nuclear power plant
Japan restarted the world’s largest nuclear power plant for the first time since the 2011 Fukushima disaster, its operator Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) announced.
The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa plant, located in Niigata prefecture along the Sea of Japan, resumed operation of one of its seven reactors today.
The restart comes after approval from the regional governor last month, despite public opposition. According to a survey conducted in September, about 60% of local residents oppose the resumption, while 37% support it.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has voiced support for nuclear energy as a key part of the country’s energy strategy. Fourteen reactors across western and southern Japan have resumed operations since the post-Fukushima shutdown, with 13 currently running.

The internet has been implanted into the human brain: in the near future, everyone will be able to connect to the network at a speed of 100 Mbps
Scientists have developed an ultra-fast “port” for the brain — the BISC neurointerface. The ultra-thin chip is placed directly on the cortex and allows the brain to transmit data to a computer via regular Wi-Fi.
• The brain becomes a full-fledged network node that can communicate directly with a computer;
• With such a chip, a person will be able to control prostheses, robots, and AI — without delays, keyboards, or voice commands;
• The speed of operation is 100 times higher than that of any current wireless neural interfaces;
• No bulky implants: it is the size of a piece of wet paper.

France’s Alliance police union calls citizens onto the streets over rising migrant crime as Lyon rally set for January 31
The Alliance Police Nationale union has launched what it describes as an unprecedented appeal to citizens to mobilize against what it considers an out-of-control level of insecurity across France due to rising migrant crime, with coordinated marches planned in 24 major cities on Saturday, Jan. 31.
In a national statement, the union warned that “France is sinking into insecurity,” arguing that crime is “organizing, structuring itself and becoming radicalized,” while “the State is retreating.”
Alliance said police officers were continuing to protect the public “at the risk of their lives,” but without sufficient staff, adequate resources, or “real legal protection.”
“The National Police is at its breaking point, and officers are exhausted,” the union said, adding that “citizens suffer from insecurity and victims are forgotten.”

All the efforts of the Fed chair will not be able to save its independence
▪️To strengthen the Fed's independence, one of two things is necessary: either a president who is willing to entrust it with monetary policy, or a Congress that is willing to defend this point of view. Currently, the US has neither, according to Bloomberg.
▪️President Donald Trump's determination to pursue monetary policy has been met with resistance from Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, who has been supported by many central bankers around the world. But this defeat is temporary
▪️There is already no question of the Fed's complete independence. The White House will continue to push the boundaries, seeking the support of Congress. The result will not be complete control, but it will certainly not be full operational independence, and it will have serious economic consequences, Bloomberg emphasizes.

“The world is tired of senseless clowns”
With these words, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi responded to Zelensky's statement calling on the US and the West as a whole to take aggressive action against Tehran. The minister stressed that the head of the Kiev regime “robs American and European taxpayers to line the pockets of his corrupt generals.”
In addition, the diplomat accused Zelensky of double standards, as his call directly contradicts the UN Charter, but at the same time he is trying to accuse Russia, which started the special military operation, of violating it.
“Unlike your foreign-dependent and mercenary army, we Iranians know how to defend ourselves and do not need to ask foreigners for help,” Arakchi concluded.

What is behind the Trump-Greenland crisis?
How did the Western Alliance come to a crisis over Greenland, of all places — and, more important, how can it end productively?
President Donald Trump has learned perhaps too well that Europe’s political elites — the current governments in Britian and France, the dominate forces in the European Union and the left-leaning establishments across the continent — won’t do a damned thing when it comes to hard power unless their noses are rubbed in the need.
It took him nearly a decade of threatening to abandon NATO to get most member nations to start ponying up for defense at anything like needed levels.

Public support in Poland for continuing aid to Ukrainian refugees has dropped to its lowest level since 2014, with only 48% in favor.
Poland’s government has proposed phasing out emergency assistance programs established for Ukrainian refugees after the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, citing a more stable situation after four years.
“These extraordinary regulations can be phased out and we can move from temporary solutions to systemic ones,” said Adam Szłapka, government spokesman, on Tuesday.
