Voice of America Lost: A Decline in Mission and Influence

Once a Cold War beacon of truth, Voice of America now faces decline, plagued by foreign influence, internal bias, and a drift from its mission—all on the taxpayer’s dime.

VOA, founded during World War II, emerged as a U.S. government agency tasked with broadcasting America’s message—or countering enemy propaganda—to the Axis powers and their occupied territories. Its Chinese-language service, launched in 1941 before the Pearl Harbor attack, was among its earliest initiatives. In 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt formally established VOA as a federal entity. During the Cold War, operating under the United States Information Agency (USIA), VOA expanded to dozens of languages, targeting audiences behind the Iron Curtain and in nations lacking a free press. Its mission: to amplify the voice of the American people.

The internet fundamentally transformed how people access information, eroding authoritarian regimes’ ability to isolate their citizens from outside voices. The rise of social media ushered in an era of information overload. Once a dominant force in dissenting airwaves alongside broadcasters like Radio Free Europe and the BBC, VOA has struggled to remain relevant. Yet, its diminishing influence isn’t solely due to external changes—VOA itself has faltered internally.

VOA’s drift from its mission—to counter propaganda and champion American values—demands scrutiny. DOGE should take note. Once a beacon of truth in oppressive regimes, VOA now risks irrelevance, compromised by foreign influence and internal politicization.

At least a dozen US states rush to ban common food dyes, citing health risks

RFK Jr’s ‘Maha’ giving fresh momentum to longtime efforts to outlaw additives, which is now a bipartisan movement.

At least a dozen US states – from traditionally conservative Oklahoma to liberal-leaning New York – are rushing to pass laws outlawing commonly used dyes and other chemical additives in foods, citing a need to protect public health.

In one of the most far-reaching efforts, West Virginia last week advanced a sweeping ban on a range of common food dyes that have been linked to health problems, particularly for children, with overwhelming support from both Republicans and Democrats.

The new law prohibits the sale of any food product containing certain yellow, blue, green and red dyes often found in candies, snacks and other foods and drinks, and goes much further than any other state in moving to eliminate the chemicals from store shelves.

The West Virginia measure has passed both legislative chambers and is expected to receive final clearance within the next week to move to the governor’s desk for signing.

EU spirits sector rattled by tariff war with US

SpiritsEUROPE, the representative body for the European spirits’ industry, has said it was “extremely concerned” by retaliatory tariffs against the US.

That, it said, was because they targeted the US whiskey industry and other spirits categories.

On March 12, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the decision to impose counter-tariffs on €26 billion worth of US goods. They included tariffs on US bourbon, a barrel-aged US whiskey made primarily from corn.

According to SpiritsEurope, the announcement came at a particularly difficult time for the domestic spirits sector as it was already struggling with geopolitical tensions and a marked slowdown in many key markets.

The organisation warned that the tariffs would severely impact European Union companies producing US spirits, US firms with major investments in Europe and the entire value chain — threatening countless jobs, including those in rural areas.

European Union to target Republican states with tariffs in Trump trade war

The European Union is reportedly seeking to put pressure specifically on Republican-controlled states as it enacts so-called retaliatory tariff measures on American businesses amid the trade war with the Trump administration.

As an order from U.S. President Donald Trump to impose global 25 per cent tariffs on aluminium and steel products, which are expected to impact an estimated €26 ($28) billion worth of EU exports to America, Brussels announced on Wednesday a package of countermeasures covering about the same in American exports to the bloc.

According to the Associated Press, EU officials admitted that their tariffs would be “aimed at products made in Republican-held states,” including meat produced in Kansas and Nebraska and lumber products from Alabama and Georgia. The bloc will also impose levies against American bourbon whiskey and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

These are the states most and least dependent on the federal government

A new study highlights how much states rely on federal aid compared to what they contribute in taxes. The study evaluates three key metrics: return on federal taxes, federal funding as a share of state revenue, and the percentage of federal jobs in each state.

Most dependent states include Alaska, Kentucky, and West Virginia, while New Jersey, California, and Delaware are the least reliant, according to a new WalletHub study.

The report found that Red States (average rank: 21.48) depend more on federal funding than Blue States (32.05). Additionally, states with lower per-capita GDP tend to receive more federal support. Notably, Illinois ranks among the least dependent but has the nation's highest tax rates, while Alaska, the most dependent state, has the lowest taxes.

WalletHub writes that Alaska ranks as the most federally dependent state, with over 50% of its revenue coming from federal funding. The state's harsh weather, large landmass, and small population contribute to its reliance on federal dollars for infrastructure, disaster relief, and resource management.

If Fluoride is so good for us, why does the packaging look like this?

It’s called sodium fluoride, and government agencies, along with nearly every dentist in the country, swears up and down we need it in our water supply so we can have strong teeth that don’t get cavities. You’ll find it in more than 75 percent of American municipal tap water, and it’s in almost every corporate-made toothpaste available, including for kids.

Fluoride is toxic. It’s an industrial byproduct of the phosphate mining industry in China. They export it to get rid of it, instead of polluting their country even more than it already is now. They package it up and label it toxic, because it causes cancer and dementia if you eat it or drink it.

No, fluoride does not prevent cavities. There is literally ZERO science backing up that claim, but the American Medical Association needed some great excuse the American people would buy into for having their drinking water laced with it, and their toothpaste and mouthwash loaded with it. It lowers your IQ so you don’t go figuring this out. It calcifies your pineal gland and makes your bones brittle. Many elderly people get shorter, need back, knee and hip surgeries regularly, and get cancer because of fluoride.

"Shred and burn all documents": USAID staff ordered to destroy evidence on Tuesday

A senior USAID official on Tuesday ordered the agency's remaining staff to report to their now-former headquarters in Washington DC for an "all day" group effort to destroy documents, many of which contain sensitive information.

The materials marked for destruction include "classified safes and personnel documents" at the Ronald Reagan Building, according to an email sent by USAID's acting executive director, Erica Carr.

"Shred as many documents first, and reserve the burn bags for when the shredder becomes unavailable or needs a break," read the email instructing staff to label the burn bags with "SECRET" and "USAID/B/IO" (which stands for "bureau or independent office") in dark sharpie.

According to the report, the email did not provide any reasoning for the document destruction, however the building is currently being emptied out after mass layoffs, which may have disrupted the routine destruction of materials.

US tested technology to warn when China tracks US satellites

The United States’ Space Rapid Capabilities Office (RCO) director, Kelly Hammett, has revealed that in January 2023, America quietly launched a payload designed to detect Chinese satellite tracking in space.

Hammet, addressing a media roundtable at the Air & Space Forces Association Warfare Symposium in Aurora, Colorado, on March 5, said the technology alerts its operators when detected and will thus be deployed on all Space Force satellites.

Explaining that the current prototype can tell if it is being “observed, tracked or targeted,” Hammett said that since the space vehicles were launched, his division received “very interesting data.”

As a nod to the communist state’s 970-strong satellite inventory, Hammett suspects that the data relayed to his team since the prototype launch likely came from a Chinese SISO, which refers to a sensor and radar network used for space object surveillance and identification.

According to analysis, more than 490 of these satellites are ISR-capable (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) and equipped with optical, multispectral, radar, and radio frequency sensors.

State Department looks to close consulates, trim global workforce

The State Department is reportedly looking to reduce its global workforce and close some of its consulates, in the federal government's latest efforts to trim its staff.

It is not clear how many embassies and consulates the department is looking to close, but one memo proposes closing a dozen consulates, primarily in Western Europe.
The department is also expected to trim its workforce by firing many local citizens who work for its missions.

Those closures include consulates in Florence, Italy; Strasbourg, France; Hamburg, Germany; and Ponta Delgada, Portugal.

The efforts are part of a larger plan to reduce the department's operating budget by up to 20%, two U.S. officials said.

Elon Musk protesters want to 'Buy' a Tesla. Here's why

Protesters targeting Tesla over their opposition to Elon Musk have a new strategy: faking interest in buying a Tesla to waste the company's time and resources.

Members of the 50501 movement, which aims to organize protests in all 50 states, have proposed that wasting the time of Tesla dealerships could be a safer alternative to illegal vandalism.

In a post on the 50501 subreddit, which received almost 3,000 upvotes, one protester proposed that activists "keep Tesla on the ropes" by dragging out the process of buying a car as long as possible before cancelling.

"Hear me out, I think this is a creative way to help protest," the poster said. "If you have spare time, call or go to your Tesla dealership and show interest in buying a Tesla vehicle.

"Don't be sure about what you want, have them give you all the details, model options etc. and just waste as much time as possible. Give them fake information like social security and your name, and pretend to be bafflingly confused when it comes up blank."

Dutch reject EC’s debt-driven €800bn rearmament plan

Dutch MPs have voted against the new European Union defence plan, ReArm Europe, because it was based on shared debt among EU countries, raising Dutch concerns about sovereignty and fiscal responsibility.

A slim majority of 73 against 71, including three of the four Dutch coalition parties, opposed European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s proposed €800 billion plan, just a week after the Dutch Government endorsed it in Brussels, despite being aware of internal discontent.

Introduced by the Dutch right-wing JA21 party, the motion against the defence plan received support from the Party for Freedom, the Farmer-Citizen Movement and the New Social Contract party.

Frans Timmermans, leader of the GreenLeft–Labour alliance, said three of the four coalition parties threw Prime Minister Dick Schoof under the bus, calling the cabinet “rudderless”.

Laurens Dassen, of the Dutch chapter of the Volt political movement that operates on a European level, said that in opposing the Rearm Europe plans, the Netherlands now put themselves in line with Hungary.

Left-Liberal D66 party leader Rob Jetten said Schoof would be “left in his underwear” after he had already pledged Dutch support, despite objections within his coalition.

French publisher halts book criticising ‘woke ideology’ amid political backlash

A prestigious French academic publisher, Presses Universitaires de France (PUF), has halted the release of a book criticising “woke ideology” in Western higher education, citing an increasingly hostile political climate.

“We believe that the necessary conditions for a calm and reasoned reception of this collective work are no longer in place,” PUF stated in announcing the suspension on March 10.

The book, titled Face à l’obscurantisme woke (In the Face of Woke Obscurantism), argued that wokism, originating in university humanities departments, was a “militant pseudo-science” that suppressed dissent through intimidation and fosters a “moral panic”.

It further said wokism “fuels communitarianism and fractures the nation [France] into a kaleidoscope of competing identities”.

Backlash from journalists and academics intensified ahead of the book’s planned release and PUF then opted to suspend its publication.

ICC takes custody of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte in crimes against humanity case

Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was turned over Wednesday to the custody of the International Criminal Court, following his arrest on a warrant accusing him of crimes against humanity over deadly anti-drugs crackdowns he oversaw while in office.

The 79-year-old former president arrived at Rotterdam The Hague Airport in the Netherlands earlier Wednesday on a flight from Manila, following his arrest there on an ICC request on Tuesday.

Rights groups and families of victims hailed Duterte’s arrest, and the court’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, called it “a crucial step in our continuous work to ensure accountability for the victims of the most serious crimes under ICC jurisdiction.”

Supporters of Duterte criticized the administration of current Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Duterte’s political rival, for arresting and surrendering the former leader to a court whose jurisdiction his supporters dispute.

The Dutch-based court said in a statement that medical assistance was made available ”as a precautionary measure” at the airport for Duterte, in line with standard procedures when a suspect arrives. The court did not comment on his state of health.

Trump reconsiders Canada tariffs after Ontario folds, suspends electricity surcharge

Donald Trump on Tuesday backed down from a threat to impose an additional 25% in tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum products — on top of a 25% tariff that was set to go into effect on Wednesday.

The reversal came after an agreement announced by Ontario Premier Doug Ford and U.S Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to suspend a planned 25% surcharge on electricity from Ontario sent to U.S. customers that Ford had warned he would impose.

Ford issued a joint statement with Lutnick on X announcing the suspension of the 25% electricity surcharge.

The withdrawal of the surcharge came alongside an agreement to hold a meeting at the White House on Thursday to discuss a renewal of the trade agreement between the U.S. and Canada, the statement said.

Earlier Ford threatened Trump’s side during an interview with CNBC, claiming: “I want to send more electricity” to the US, but cutting off power exports remains “a tool in our toolkit.”

EU accuses U.S. of 'blackmailing' Zelensky

Yesterday’s pacifists are today’s Rambos, it seems: 442 lawmakers in the 720-seat European Parliament just agreed to a joint declaration that “strongly deplores any attempts at blackmailing Ukraine’s leadership into surrender to the Russian aggressor for the sole purpose of announcing a so-called ‘peace deal.’ It passed via landslide: 61%.

It’s unclear why the European Parliament insisted on using the word “blackmailing.” We’re not threatening to disclose harmful information about Zelensky.

Usually, the “victim” of blackmail is the one who lost his money. Not here: The EU is claiming that Zelensky was blackmailed because Trump DIDN’T pay him. It doesn’t make much sense.

Even after all these years, Europe’s level of entitlement never ceases to astonish. What Ukraine and the EU really want is an American war guarantee. When you strip away the diplomatic niceties and coded language, Zelensky’s tantrum and EU’s fury can all be boiled down to this: They want a peace guarantee that’s backed by American blood.

Tennessee sex-romp cop Maegan Hall lands a surprising new gig: report

A 29-year-old married Tennessee cop whose wild sexcapades with a half dozen male officers in her stationhouse made national headlines, is now a low-key pharmacy technician.

Now out of the limelight, Hall still lives in the $275,000 three-bedroom house in Manchester she purchased with her 31-year-old husband, Jedidiah, before she was fired.

It’s unclear if the couple is still together, but the controversial ex-cop is living large after landing a $500,000 settlement from La Vergne. Hall had claimed in a lawsuit that she was groomed by the men in the police department to be a veritable sex toy for the ranks.

An internal investigation by city officials found that Hall had an ongoing affair with one of the department’s sergeants and was tied to trysts with other cops, including a threesome with one officer and his wife and a romp during a “Girls Gone Wild” themed hot tub party.

The probe found that some of the sexual encounters took place on the job and on police property.

La Vergne Police Chief Burrel Davis, who was not sexually involved with Hall, was fired over the scandal because he was aware and took part in locker-room-like ribbing over the hook-ups.

Proteins in vaccines cause food allergies

We aren’t born allergic to food. Our bodies are designed to tolerate what we eat. But inject proteins in the form of a vaccine instead of ingesting them, and the immune system sees them as invaders. That’s how you create food allergies, and it’s a process that’s been understood for over a century – yet ignored or dismissed by the medical establishment.

Vinu Arumugham, an electronics engineer in Silicon Valley, discovered that food proteins contaminating vaccines can trigger immune sensitisation and drive the allergy epidemic.

Arumugham’s research has shown that when food proteins are injected into the body through vaccines, the immune system learns to attack them as if they were dangerous pathogens, leading to food allergies, and this process is not limited to proteins, but also applies to large protein-like molecules like polysaccharides and polyethylene glycol.

“The first dose of the vaccine causes the development of allergies. Subsequent doses are booster shots for food allergy. With more shots being added to vaccine schedules, more people develop allergies, and more severe the allergies.”

FBI hands over Jan. 6 pipe bomb documents to House Republicans

The FBI has said it is handing over subpoenaed documents to Republican House Judiciary lawmakers, responding to a letter that called for “transparency and accountability” at the bureau.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) sent a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel about information and documents that he said were withheld under former FBI Director Christopher Wray.

In a letter dated March 7, FBI Assistant Director Marshall Yates responded by including documents and information about alleged pipe bombs that were found near Democratic and Republican headquarters in Washington in January 2021, the FBI’s communications with social media companies, and investigations into threats against school officials.

“As a sign of good faith, we are providing this initial production more than a week ahead of the Committee’s subpoena deadline,” Yates wrote. “But this will not be the last production we will send to satisfactorily comply with the Committee’s subpoena. U.S. lands on Soros-funded ‘human rights’ watchlist—alongside North Korea and China

The United States—a country historically touted as a beacon of freedom—has been added to a watchlist of countries allegedly violating civil rights. CIVICUS, a leftist and Soros-founded organization, stands behind the list.

“Due to the Trump administration’s assault on democratic norms and global cooperation, CIVICUS has added the United States of America (USA) to its Watchlist of countries with faltering civic freedoms,” CIVICUS claimed in a press release on Monday.

CIVICUS is a nonprofit that received more than $3.5 million in donations from George Soros’s Open Society Foundations from 2016 to 2021, according to a Headline USA review of a grants database.

The 2025 watchlist also targets countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Italy, Pakistan and Serbia. CIVICUS, founded in 1993, claims to be a “global alliance of civil society organisations and activists working to strengthen citizen action and civil society throughout the world.”

Education Department to cut roughly half its staff

The Education Department announced a drastic reduction in its workforce Tuesday, saying it's set to cut about half of its staff.

“About 1,300 career employees will receive termination notices and will be given an opportunity to return to offices to turn in government property and clean out their desks Wednesday,”

the Department of Education said in a news release. Another 600 people previously accepted voluntarily resignations or early retirement.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon said in a statement that the layoffs reflect the department's commitment to efficiency, accountability, and ensuring that resources are directed where they matter most: to students, parents, and teachers.

Around 3,000 people work in the department's Washington headquarters, and roughly 1,000 are in 10 regional offices.

Bill Gates BTFO: South Dakota bans use of tax dollars for lab-grown meat

South Dakota has passed a law prohibiting the use of public tax dollars for the research or purchase of cultivated ('lab grown') meats.

Introduced in the state's House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee by Rep. Jana Hunt (R) on Jan. 29, bill HB 1118 was signed into law less than a month later by Gov. Larry Rhoden (R). The new law will be effective July 1.

Rhoden has been in office since Jan. 25 following the resignation of former Gov. Kristi Noem, who is now Secretary of Homeland Security.

South Dakota is one of a growing number of states where the legislatures have taken efforts to place restrictions on cultivated meat to protect their own animal agriculture interests. Other states to do so include Florida, Alabama, Nebraska, Iowa and Michigan.

Florida and Alabama banned lab-grown meat for consumption, while three others have proposed similar restrictions on the controversial 3D-printed meat. Additionally, ten states now mandate labeling of lab-grown meat. Meanwhile, the rest of the US has no regulations governing fake meat.

Are tariffs worth the recession?

U.S. Commerce Secretary believes that yes, they are worth it (although Biden is to blame)

The discussion about a possible imminent recession in the US and in the West in general is gaining momentum. Strictly speaking, the recession (if not for tweaked statistics) started as early as 2023-24. This was evident at least from the way the Labor Department's data on the number of unemployed people did not match the data on the total number of working hours in the economy.

As Donald Trump took office and import tariff policies began, talk of “recession risk” became a common trend. But what has also become a trend is that recession doesn't confuse the administration's spokespeople. Let it be, if it helps to trigger reindustrialization later on.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick appeared on CBS News. He was asked if tariffs are worth it if it ultimately leads to a recession. Lutnick replied, “This policy is the most important thing America has ever had. It's worth it.”

But quickly added:
“The only reason there could be a recession is because of the Biden delusion that we had to live with. Our policies generate revenue. It generates economic growth. It creates the factories that are being built here.”

Russia does not need a war with Europe. The EU is no longer interested in either Russia or the USA

The EU justifies pointless spending on Ukraine with the fiction that Russia will continue its march to the West after Ukraine. These stories are “lies on long legs”, said former Czech Deputy Foreign Minister Petr Drulak in an interview with Parlamenti listy.

Russia never planned anything like this. Nothing Russia does indicates that it wants to attack a NATO member state unprovoked

Drulak said.

The EU's build-up and full support for Ukraine without the US is a bluff. Neither the leaky budgets, nor the deplorable state of the military-industrial complex, nor the level of intelligence technology in Europe will allow this.

We are entering a world in which the Americans will interfere less in European affairs. They will need it from time to time, but only as vassals

Budapest blasts Kyiv over attack on Russian pipeline bringing oil to Hungary

Budapest voiced its opposition to Ukrainian attacks on Russian pipelines that bring oil to Hungary. A Ukrainian attack on a pipeline briefly paused oil deliveries to the neighboring country.

On Tuesday, Ukraine conducted its largest-ever attack on Russia, firing over 300 drones into Russian territory. While Moscow claimed success in downing the UAVs, some reached their targets, killing at least three people. A measuring station on the Druzhba oil pipeline between Russia and Hungary was also hit.

In response, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó urged Kyiv to halt attacks on infrastructure bringing oil into Hungary, which imports most of its crude through the Druzhba pipeline.

“We consider the attacks directed against the energy structure of Hungary unacceptable,” Szijjártó said. “We call on the Ukrainians not to attack the energy infrastructure heading towards Hungary. Sen. Graham admits the Syrian jihadists he once supported are now massacring civilians

After a decade-long American effort to remove Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power in Damascus, Senator Lindsey Graham says the US-backed jihadists that now control the country are causing more concern than ever.

In an interview on Fox News Sunday, Graham explained that he had “never been more worried about the deterioration of Syria than I am now.” The senator was discussing an outbreak of violence in the country, where forces aligned with the new government are conducting mass executions targeting the Alawites and other religious minorities.

In 2024, forces of Syrian al-Qaeda, led by Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, went on the offensive, capturing Damascus and forcing Syrian President Bashar Assad to flee the country. Jolani and his organization – Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a jihadist umbrella group – then seized control of the country. Last week, when violence broke out in Syria’s coastal region, HTS responded by killing hundreds of Alawite civilians.

Graham has supported the regime change operations against Assad for well over a decade. In 2012, he argued, “If America is seen as being helpful in ending the slaughter of the Syrian people, it will allow us to have a stronger, future relationship with Assad’s eventual successor,” he said. “Replacing Assad in Syria is critical to regional stability and will bolster our national security interests.”

The next year, the senator acknowledged that “radical Islamists are hijacking the Syrian revolution.” However, that did not sway Graham’s support for regime change.

CNN’s MAGA panelist gets pay raise amid staff cuts and ratings crisis

Even in the face of a ratings war that has forced staff cuts, CNN found a way to grant its token MAGA panelist a hefty pay hike.

The network and Scott Jennings are in the final stages of contract negotiations that will see the conservative pundit receive a substantial pay increase, according to Status News, run by former CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy.

Sources told Status that the terms of the contract are expected to be favorable to Jennings, though it appears CNN turned down his request for his own online or cable news show. The network declined to comment.

Jennings regularly clashes with other panelists and anchors at CNN. Last month, Jennings fiercely defended DOGE chief Elon Musk during a panel discussion over the billionaire’s potential conflicts of interest as he leads the Trump administration’s efforts to cut down government spending.
