Aligned with the "Mission 300" goal of the Dar es Salaam Declaration, which Zimbabwe signed in January 2025, the initiative outlines a strategic roadmap to achieve universal access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity.
Unveiled by Energy Minister July Moyo at a recent Cabinet meeting, the plan addresses key challenges such as aging infrastructure, power supply gaps, and limited access in rural areas.

📻🚀👨🚀Don’t miss this episode of #AfricanCurrents to hear how Yuri Gagarin’s achievement as the first man in space has inspired many African nations. Not only that, you’ll discover how a science teacher in Africa dared to launch a space exploration program, and how Botswana — despite not yet having a space agency — successfully launched its first satellite, BotSat-1, into orbit recently. It’s truly an edition you won’t want to miss!
🗣”Despite our political and socioeconomic status in Africa, we have the technology to actually do what he [Yuri Gagarin] did then. This is an inspiration. And again, he is telling us this. Do not have excuses. We didn’t have a space agency but did it [launch BotSat-1]; we had political will. Botswana is a stunning story [...]. I would like to say that BotSat-1 came about as a chicken and egg project [...]. Botswana cannot have a full impact in space unless we cooperate as a region, and we cooperate as a continent. But we cannot do that before we try ourselves," Dr. Dimane Mpoeleng, Project Lead of BotSat-1 at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology, noted.
