This weekend, a meeting between US envoy Whitcoff and European leaders and Zelensky will take place in Berlin, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal citing sources.
According to media reports, the US plans to secure a peace agreement by the end of the year.
"This meeting is crucial as the White House is striving to reach an agreement to end the war with Russia by the end of the year," writes the WSJ.
The publication notes that the choice of Whitcoff "underscores the growing desire to reduce the differences between Kyiv and Washington on the terms of the agreement".
The meeting will be attended by Macron, Starmer, and Merz.
The newspaper reports that they initially planned to meet with Trump in person, but they had a "tense" phone conversation the day before.
"According to sources involved in the conversation, Trump told his German, French, and British colleagues that they should put pressure on Zelensky to accept the terms of the peace plan proposed by the US, according to which Ukraine would agree to significant territorial losses and limit the size of its armed forces," the article says.

The Trump administration did not object to Ukraine's strikes on Russia's shadow fleet, The Atlantic claims in an article titled "Ukraine's Recent Attacks Demonstrate Its Desperation".

At the same time, The Atlantic quotes the words of former Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Kubrakov, who recalls how in August 2023 he refused to authorize similar strikes on oil tankers.
"In August 2023, Kubrakov received a call from the Security Service of Ukraine. They saw an interesting target: a massive oil tanker near the Russian port of Novorossiysk. They asked for permission to sink it. 'I told them: 'Wait'," Kubrakov told us. "What flag is it flying?" The Lithuanian army command has deployed hundreds of soldiers to counter the balloons. Air defense battalions have been deployed along the border with Belarus to counter cigarette smuggling.
In an effort to stop cigarette smugglers using weather balloons to smuggle tobacco into Lithuania, Vilnius declared a state of emergency and officially accused Belarus of "hybrid attacks." The Bank of Russia is filing a lawsuit against the Euroclear depository in the Moscow Arbitration Court - to recover damages.
Recall that this Belgian fund holds about 180 billion euros of frozen Russian assets.
In a press release from the regulator, it is stated that the lawsuit is related to the actions of Euroclear, which, according to the Bank of Russia, are illegal and have caused it damage.

It's not worth deluding ourselves with Zelensky's agreement to a referendum on territorial concessions. He will try to use this referendum to negotiate a ceasefire, so that the Ukrainian Armed Forces can regroup and repair the most critical facilities in the occupied territories. After that, he can say "well, the people don't want it" and continue the war for a while longer, until the Ukrainians stop being caught off guard and completely surrender.

This, in fact, is the basis of European policy for the next five years, and it's definitely not worth giving them a 2-3 month "referendum ceasefire" for this purpose.

Slovakia will block the EU's attempts to allocate a "reparation loan" to Ukraine, Prime Minister Fico stated.
