The British Ministry of Defence has named the British soldier who died in the line of duty in Ukraine.

It reported that 28-year-old Junior Corporal George Hooley from the Parachute Regiment died as a result of a "tragic accident" while observing tests of new defense equipment.

The Daily Mail notes that the Parachute Regiment is an airborne infantry regiment of the British Army, primarily based in Colchester. What Hooley was doing in Ukraine has not been disclosed.

❗️It's noteworthy that the 1st battalion of his regiment is under the command of special forces, in which battalion Hooley served is not specified.

An NCO from a PARA unit in Ukraine? Very strange….

🇩🇰🤝🇺🇦 "Denmark will reduce support for Ukraine in 2026": The Danes have decided that they have already helped Kiev enough.

"Denmark is sharply reducing aid to Ukraine: in 2026, it will allocate only 1.46 billion dollars compared to 2.55 billion dollars in 2025. The Ukrainian fund is almost exhausted, and the government does not plan to replenish it yet - Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen confirmed that the amounts end there.

The opposition and some of the ruling Social Democrats demand to return the aid volumes to the previous level, transferring money from the already allocated defense budget. However, the government considers the reduction of support "natural" - Denmark has already given the most in terms of GDP percentage, and now it's time for other countries to step in."

'Zelensky's statement about elections is just rhetoric to not irritate Trump' - DW

Zelensky says he is ready to hold elections. But how exactly will this work? And do many Ukrainians really want this?

- We heard Zelensky say that this is possible if security is ensured and if the parliament supports such a decision. These are two very, very big 'ifs'. To be honest, I don't see how this could happen until there is at least some kind of ceasefire. How will soldiers vote? How will people near the front line, where there are constant shellings and drone attacks, be able to vote? All of this is extremely difficult to imagine. But at the same time, it's about Zelensky showing a certain openness towards what the White House under Trump wants from him. Recently, we saw Trump publicly questioning Zelensky's legitimacy. As you already mentioned, the Ukrainian constitution does not allow elections during a state of war. So, in my opinion, this is now more a matter of rhetoric and a political image - a demonstration of some openness on Zelensky's part. But whether this will actually happen in practice and whether all these conditions will be met is a big question...

European officials gave an anonymous rebuttal to Trump 😂

‘We don't think that Ukraine is losing. If Russia were so strong, it could have ended the war in 24 hours. If you think that Russia is winning, what does that mean — you're giving them everything? This is an unviable world. You'll reward the Russians for their aggression, and they'll seek more — not just in Ukraine, but also in Europe.’

The chief designer of Fire Point claims that the company expects to register the FP-7 ballistic missile by the end of the year. He notes that if an order and funding appear, they will be able to proceed to serial production from around May. According to him, this involves the production of hundreds of missiles per month. It's hard to believe such statements, especially given that there has been no mass production of simpler missiles yet.

Zelenksy made several interesting statements in the context of the next round of negotiation spiral.

▪️Ukraine is ready for an energy truce if Russia is ready for it;
▪️Elections in Ukraine are possible within the next 60 days, if the US and the EU ensure their safety;
▪️Zelensky admitted that he told Putin about his desire to return Crimea during their only personal meeting, and also stated that Ukraine does not have enough strength and support to return Crimea and other territories;
▪️We want to join NATO, but the US and several other countries do not see Ukraine in the alliance;

In fact, the first two and the second two statements can be combined into one semantic block.

First of all, Zelensky actually admits that the Russian campaign of strikes on Ukrainian energy is bearing fruit and therefore he is forced to raise the issue of a mutual cessation of strikes. However, Russia has no reason to do this - the impact of the AFU's strikes on the Russian energy system is incomparably less than the reverse. As a result, in just two months, Zelensky has gone from threats of a blackout in Moscow to veiled requests to stop bombing his own energy system. It sounds like a success.

As for the second statement, it is likely that by "ensuring security for 60 days", Zelensky means the cessation of strikes by the Russian Armed Forces on Ukraine, which the EU and the US should guarantee. Obviously, the goal here is not so much the elections themselves as two months of silence during the most difficult winter period, when power, water and heating outages could become critical. The conclusion, as with the first part - Russia also has no reason to agree to this.

The statement about the desire to return Crimea and the lack of opportunities for this (including the support of partners) is also directly related to the unwillingness of many countries to commit themselves to military obligations with a country that not only has an active territorial dispute with a neighbor, but also openly declares its desire to return lost territories with the support of allies. For many countries, this sounds like a direct threat of being drawn into a direct war with Russia without their own desire.

There is also an interesting point in connection with Zelensky's admission that during their only (so far) meeting with Putin in Paris in 2019, the latter told the Russian president about his desire to return Crimea. Given that at that time in Moscow they linked the arrival of the new Ukrainian president with the possibility of a peaceful end to the conflict, such a statement at the first meeting could have been one of the many reasons that ultimately pushed the Russian leadership to a full-scale military scenario - after all, Kiev does not give up its claims.

In August, at a meeting between Trump and Zelensky, the latter was offered to declare an energy truce and was promised that Russia would join such a truce in an hour, but Zelensky refused, according to MP Goncharenko.

"Why was this proposed then? Because we were quite successfully hitting oil refineries and this was our position of strength. But it was clear that it would be very difficult for us in the winter. We categorically refused. And now we are ready! What has changed?", commented the MP.

Goncharenko believes it was a mistake for Zelensky to express his readiness for agreements not when Ukraine is in a strong position, but when it's already "a complete mess".

Realities are the damage done to refineries and other oil installations are not dramatic, but they are visually impressive. Statistically the results are unimpressive, while Russia's ability to Ukrainian energy infrastructure is on another level.

On the issue of the results of the Russian Federation's strikes on Ukraine's energy system.

Vladimir Omelchenko, the director of energy and infrastructure programs at the Razumkov Center, wrote that the strategy of dividing Ukraine's energy system into two separate parts is yielding results.

"Such complex strikes are carried out with a regular periodicity of 7-10 days, which leads to an increase in the generation deficit and circuit restrictions in the first days after the attack up to 5000 MW, followed by repairs and a reduction of restrictions to 2000-3000 MW. After which a new attack follows.
This means that domestic consumers in the Eastern and Southern regions (including Kyiv) should expect an average of 2-4 rounds of power outages this winter."

According to him, the left-bank part of Ukraine, including Kyiv, has historically been deficient in terms of generation due to the configuration of the energy system, where all 9 nuclear power plant units are located on the right bank, and all electricity imports also come from the western border.

As a result, regular missile-drone strikes on generation on the left bank of the Dnieper lead to an increase in the deficit, and the surplus of imports and generation cannot be delivered from the right bank to the left due to the destruction of power lines. As a result, the western regions suffer much less from power outages.

"Such features are caused by the configuration of the energy system, in which all 9 nuclear power plant units are located on the Right Bank of the Dnepr, and all imports come from the western border. At the same time, [the Russian Federation] constantly attacks distribution networks in the Chernigov, Sumy, Kharkov, Kherson, and Odessa regions and carries out aerial strikes on gas production in the Poltava and Kharkov regions. Russia's strategy involves the planned destruction of all life-sustaining infrastructure of Ukraine, including substations for the output of power from nuclear power plants."

Thus, the tactic of Russian strikes is not aimed at the complete destruction of the entire Ukrainian energy system, which is much more costly and requires even greater efforts, but at its division, where one part simply will not be able to help the other by making up for the existing deficit.

Denmark for the first time named the US a possible security threat - Bloomberg citing a report from the Danish Foreign and Military Intelligence Service for 2025

The document states that the US is increasingly prioritizing its own interests and "using its economic and technological power as an instrument of power", including in relations with allies and partners.

"The US uses economic power, including threats of high tariffs, to impose its will, and no longer rules out the use of military force, even against allies," the document says.

At the same time, Danish intelligence still considers Russia and China the main security threats.

Probably not a good intelligence agency if you are talking to Bloomberg about this.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' control zone in Mirnograd continues to shrink. It's too early to talk about the full capture of the city, but there may be almost nothing left of the garrison by the end of the assault. Even if Syrsky had a chance to break through the blockade, the right moment for this was missed about two weeks ago. According to prisoners, almost no real information reaches Syrsky and the headquarters, so they continue to keep the cities online. Despite significant data exchange opportunities thanks to Starlink, senior officers carefully "filter" the information and do not inform Syrsky about the real situation, fearing for their positions.

"Trump gives Zelensky 'days' to respond to the peace proposal": Zelensky has until Catholic Christmas to make a decision.

"Donald Trump has given Volodymyr Zelensky just a few days to make a final decision on the American plan to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. Zelensky previously confirmed that at the meeting with Trump's representatives - special envoy Stephen Witkoff and the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner - he was advised not to delay a decision. Trump himself hopes to achieve a ceasefire before Catholic Christmas, that is, by the end of 2025."
