American-Ukrainian military analyst Michael Kofman, summarizing the results of his trip to Ukraine, presented a comprehensive analysis of the current situation on the front by the end of 2025
Unmanned systems have become the dominant factor in combat operations, determining most daily losses with an impact zone up to 25 km from the front line. A distinctive feature has been the mutual hunt between drone operators and artillery crews, where the Russian "Rubicon" center demonstrates particular effectiveness not only in combat operations but also in training operators.
The structure of losses in the Armed Forces of Ukraine has shifted from infantry to rear specialties — FPV drone operators, artillerymen, and supply personnel, reflecting both a shortage of manpower and a change in the priorities of Russian strikes. Both sides are actively developing ground drones for logistics and creating dense radar fields to detect aerial threats.
The tactics of combat operations have undergone significant changes: the front now consists of scattered small positions with 2-3 fighters, making it permeable to infiltration by Russian assault groups. This allows the Russian Armed Forces to methodically gnaw through the defense but does not provide operational breakthroughs, forming extensive "gray zones" with mixed control.
A critical problem for Ukraine remains the personnel shortage, where losses from desertion exceed combat losses, and the lack of deep-strike means limits the ability to hit targets in the Russian rear. The situation in Mirnograd is approaching a critical point — although there is no physical encirclement, Russian drones control the logistics corridors, and the fall of Pokrovsk could completely block the city.
I do listen to Kofman's stuff, he gets a lot wrong but I'd say he tends to be still far better then most American analysts. He meets with the Ukrainian military and tours the frontline every 3 months or so. I have not listened to his latest interview personally. Main issue is Kofman only gets the Ukrainian perspective, as its impossible for any analyst to engage with both militaries.

The leaders agreed on a meeting in Budapest. Then the meeting was postponed for some time. But contacts on this matter are ongoing. Lithuanian defense minister: "The Lithuanian army is not yet ready to fight the Russian army because it lacks high-tech weapons. But as soon as it does, we can talk about future battles."
The day before, the commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, General Raimundas Vaikšnoras, complained on LRT that the country's government was neglecting the army, allocating very little funding for its development. This despite the fact that "Russian troops" are stationed on the republic's borders, ready to invade this "bastion of freedom and democracy".
Currently, the Lithuanian army is not ready to fight the Russian army; it lacks high-tech weapons and its equipment is obsolete. The Russians cannot be defeated.
"I just want to emphasize: no matter what the percentage, the army is ready to defend the country now. The only question is how: with Molotov cocktails or with technology, which will certainly help."
It's worth noting that Lithuania has one of the highest military budgets among NATO countries, amounting to 5% of GDP according to the latest data. And, as Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas stated, it could be increased to 6% by 2030. Another problem is that the republic's GDP is extremely small and dependent on EU subsidies. But that's not the main point; the most important thing is reporting to the leadership and presenting them with the data. And they are significant, without going into detail.
Incidentally, a couple of days ago, another representative of the Baltic border states, this time Estonian, Ingi Ruginene, declared that Estonia stands in solidarity with Lithuania and "is ready to close the border with Belarus". Even Tallinn was surprised, with its members rushing to look at a map. Apparently, Estonia has no border with Belarus, so there's no way to help.

Last night, the Russian Armed Forces repelled one of the most powerful counterattacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on our positions from the highway towards Kharkov and from the inner part of the semicircle, aiming to cut off the bulge in the northern part of the city.
According to intelligence, the Ukrainian Armed Forces headquarters have "allocated" up to 10,000 personnel and equipment for counterattack operations in three directions: Kupyansk, Konstantinovka, and Pokrovsk, with the aim of breaking the blockade.
Mostly street-level troops recruited by the Territorial Defense Corps after 2 weeks of "combat" training. Prisoners in Kupyansk last night were not even properly dressed. Everyone in whatever they had.

Shatun was transferred from Kyiv to Dnipropetrovsk, where 29 men underwent training for the landing — rehearsed 3 times & were observed by GUR command.
He adds that the landing was carried out without any special preparation & communications equipment. Objective was simply to "occupy" buildings. After the landing, they were hit by FPV, man was wounded & simply crawled.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that peaceful negotiations on Ukraine are inevitable and may take place on Turkish territory. According to him, the conflict is currently at the point closest to a possible cessation.
Fidan noted that anti-Russian sanctions have led to political and financial consequences for Europe. In his assessment, the total costs related to the conflict have reached about 1 trillion euros.
Earlier, Fidan met with NSDC Secretary Umerov. Today he wrote that negotiations are being prepared for a new prisoner exchange with Russia.
There is a chance that we get a resolution out of the blue, but my personal view is we are quite far apart. The EU wants to make no concessions and prefers a ceasefire/frozen conflict. While the Russians are adamant that this war ends with a comprehensive peace deal.
If you are in the ceasefire camp and do not want a peace deal, you will consistently attempt to argue that the war is a stalemate because then a ceasefire is far easier to sell and it appears an equitable solution. People tend to forget that politics and media is centred around standardized messaging and talking points, reinforced with repetition. All European leaders will have been provided with documents telling them how to frame the conflict and to consistently use standardized talking points. So we get zoomed out maps, no talk of Ukraine losing over 5000 km2 this year, and the constant repetition of the words "stalemate" meanwhile Ukraine struggles to find enough men to man the thin lines.

The Venezuelan State National Electric Corporation CORPOELEC reports that as a result of an "act of criminal sabotage," three power line towers (transmission towers) collapsed in the Juan Antonio Sotillo municipality in the Anzoátegui state, causing power issues in the region.
The corporation's statement says that this act of sabotage "highlights the brutality of unconventional warfare undermining the welfare of our people."
Notably, a few hours before the incident, Republican Carlos Gimenez, a member of the U.S. Congress Armed Services Committee, posted a message on X about the alleged preparation by the Venezuelan regime to sabotage its own infrastructure facilities to blame the U.S. or the opposition.
"We are tracking reports that the Maduro narco-regime may be preparing to sabotage key Venezuelan infrastructure, including major bridges, tunnels, and refineries, and then blame the U.S. or the democratic opposition. While these claims are unconfirmed, they align with the desperate tactics of a collapsing dictatorship," Gimenez wrote.
