Czech Justice Minister Resigns After Drug Dealer “Gives” Him $49 Million in Bitcoin
Pavel Blažek announced his decision to leave office amid a scandal involving a cryptocurrency "donation" to the department, ČTK reports.
The gist of the story is that the ministry received more than 468 bitcoins (about $49 million) from Tomasz Jirikowski, who was previously convicted of embezzlement, drug trafficking and weapons possession . In 2017, he was imprisoned for organizing an underground online platform for the sale of illegal substances. He was released in 2021 and soon transferred part of his crypto savings to the state.
His electronic wallet was initially seized, but was returned to its owner after his release. Investigators believe it was from this account that the bitcoins were transferred to the Ministry of Justice. The agency immediately sold the digital assets to private investors for almost 40 million euros.
Now the police are investigating possible money laundering and trying to freeze the remaining cryptocurrency. The investigation also touches on episodes related to drug trafficking and abuse of power by officials.
"It is up to the police and the courts to prove it, but there is no verdict that the bitcoins are connected to criminal activities . If that is proven, the state will confiscate the rest in any case," Blažek said, denying his guilt.
However, the minister agreed to leave his post, citing consultations with Prime Minister Petar Fiala and concerns for the government's reputation.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has made another scathing statement accusing Ukraine of large-scale criminal activity. He says Ukrainians make up 80% of international fraudsters and that a network of Ukrainian call centres involved in financial scams was recently exposed in Hungary.

The above mentioned combat laser system is the Chinese Low-Altitude Laser Defending System (LASS), used, among others, by the People's Armed Police of the People's Republic of China. The developer and manufacturer of LASS is probably the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics.

I should note the Chinese were the world’s first military to put laser defense systems into military operation. The Silent Hunter was unveiled in 2017 is an improved version of the 30-kilowatt Low-Altitude Laser Defending System (LASS). The Silent Hunter system is used by the Chinese and Saudi Arabian military.
