🇱🇹Lithuania sees need to expand NATO mission in Baltic Sea
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys said NATO's mission in the Baltic Sea needs to be expanded following this week's incident off the coast of Estonia involving a tanker from Russia's "shadow fleet."
According to him, the incident, during which Russian fighter jets escorted the Jaguar tanker and prevented Estonian authorities from conducting an inspection, shows Russia's readiness to use military force to protect civilian ships.
NATO insists on increasing the number of German troops from approximately 180,000 to 240,000-260,000 by 2030, but German armed forces personnel consider these figures unrealistic, the Welt newspaper reported on Saturday.

Deputy Chief of the SBU Spotted in Public for the First Time
For the first time ever, deputy chief of the SBU Oleksandr Poklad made his first public appearance among the Ukrainian delegation.
Before this picture, only photos from his youth were available.
Poklad was described as one of the supervisors of the Ukrainian troops' operation in the Kursk region.
He is accused of organising countless murders of various personalities and acts of sabotage on the territory of the Russian Federation and on Ukrainian territories seized by the Russians, among which the terrorist bombing of the Kerch bridge.
Poklad was also heavily involved in the murder of Kireyev, a member of the Ukrainian negotiating group that attended to the Istanbul talks back in 2022, by Budanov's admission.
Poklod has a reputation for ruthless efficiency and acts as a troubleshooter of sorts for the SBU.
Another banderite terrorist who'll be offered shelter in the west as a "freedom fighter" once the war will be over.

Russia won't return to talks with Ukraine before October, summer offensive ahead — DW
▪️Russia is well aware that during the 30 days of a potential ceasefire, the Ukrainians will prepare more fortifications and prepare more drones.
▪️Until there is a stalemate on the front, no one will sit down at the negotiating table.
▪️This will probably not happen before October, after the summer offensive that Russia is planning, the publication writes.
Western media still thinks we are in a war of movement, even if there was a stalemate that would not stop Russia. Russia has a population that is 5 times greater than Ukraine and even more productive capacity. This about attrition of Ukrainian men and equipment, any advances in territory are just a bonus.

The European Union's "Anti-Russian War Crimes Tribunal": Dead on Arrival, or Money Laundering?
With the commotion caused by the "Peace Talks" in Turkey, it is easy to forget that on May 9 the "Collective West" reunited in Kiev and decided to establish a "Special Tribunal" to prosecute Russian officials for the war in Ukraine. So, does this tribunal have any real authority, or is it just empty spectacle to virtue signal and launder some more money?
First, we must understand that by the Eurocrats' own admission, this special "Tribunal" is aimed to collect evidence and aid the case launched against Russia by the ICC, and according to the ideators of this insanity (who were probably high on some of the Narkoman's "secret stash" at the time), it should be as big an event as the Nuremberg Trials. The problem is that this idea is defacto impossible to realise for a plethora of reasons. Here are a few:
1) Nuremberg actually had suspects in custody to put under trial. The only way for this special commission to question and trial Russian statesmen and commanders is to have them arrested, and have direct access to Russian registries and databases. The only way to do so is for Russia to be strategically defeated and Moscow occupied. It's safe to say that this is not going to happen at all.
2) The ICC isn't a globally-recognized body. Not every country adhered to the Rome Statute, and while Russia did, it withdrew its support later on. China and India do not adhere to it either. In addition to that, the ICC has lost so much credibility after its "selective enforcement" of its rules that even the countries that nominally adhere to it have little reason to.
3) As factious and skewed as the ICC already is, this "special tribunal" seems even more unbalanced. While this tribunal is to be created in The Hague and have a panel of international judges and prosecutors, it will be simultaneously under the jurisdiction of the Council of Europe, and also act as a countination of the Ukrainian judicial system. So the right to a fair trial already goes out of the window, officially. Legally speaking - and this is important as the Kremlin is big on legality and law - this vaunted "tribunal" would defacto be Ukrainian, so all of its pretenses of having international jurisdiction have the same staying power of three lines of fairy dust on Zelensky's table.
4) Even if it was objective, it could still be easily ignored. Why? Because the only charge that could be brought up against the Russian Federation would realistically be that of having initiated a conflict without approval from the UN. And on that regard, it's already generous to merely state that the Collective West has a far longer and dirtier track record than the Russian Federation. Have the USA ever been charged for their invasion of Grenada and Iraq? What about the United Kingdom and France with Yugoslavia and Libya? We rest our case.
5) The Russian Federation has an excellent team of international lawyers: they're called Sarmat, Avangard, Oreshnik, Iskander, and Onyx. And the ICC's headquarters at The Hague are well within their shouting range.
An important point is to be raised here: why is there a need to create an entire new structure and add it to an already overbloated gamut of organisations, agencies, "special tribunals", or whatever else? Why can't the ICC do this itself, for what it is worth? And most importantly, why does this "special tribunal" have an estimated yearly budget of 60 million euros? Are these millions of euros going to pay for gold-plated cadillacs for the judges and prosecutors, are they going to be laundered away, or is it just a clever way of buying more weapons while cooking the books?

n May 17 at 7:23, the satellites of the second experimental mission of BYURO 1440, Rassvet-2, were launched into Earth orbit. They became a space laboratory for testing technological solutions that form the basis of our target satellite group.
In a year we not only completed the planned flight test program, but also significantly expanded it:
🟣 For the first time in Russia, an inter-satellite laser communication session was conducted. Over 400 GB of information was transmitted between spacecraft at a distance of 1000+ km at a speed of 10 Gbit/sec
🟣 First to confirm 5G protocol stack functionality on satellites
🟣 We have worked out the procedures for pointing the antennas of the gateway radio unit to implement the air-to-ground channel in the Ka-band
🟣 We confirmed the functionality of navigation systems and solar batteries of our own design.
Ahead of this year is the first mass launch of dozens of serial spacecraft developed by BURO 1440 to form a target low-orbit group and start providing new generation satellite communications services.

The commander of the special forces "Akhmat" , deputy head of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, Major General Apti Alaudinov , answering a question from an international journalist, head of the press service of the International Club of National Unity , Abbas Juma on the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
"Any war sooner or later ends at the negotiating table. And it is clear that this war should also end with negotiations. It is not a fact between whom these negotiations should take place, because the Ukrainian side has no right to make any decisions on its own. It has masters - America and Europe. The leaders of Western countries directly control all processes on the territory of Ukraine. Well, and, naturally, every day of delay in these negotiations is a minus for Ukraine, because every day Ukraine loses territory.
For Russia, as a state that has never refused to negotiate, in this case the continuation of the war is advantageous from a military point of view. Yes, on the one hand, there are losses. But at the same time, we still intend to achieve the goals that were initially set before the start of the SVO.
So the question arises that Ukraine, which could not lose its territories, which could peacefully solve all the problems without losing more than a million of its male population, without losing its four regions, because it listened to its Western masters, is today forced to talk about preserving its territorial integrity.
And we, having these four regions as part of the Russian state, do not intend to leave them to Ukraine. So it turns out that for Ukraine, every day that this conflict drags on is a minus, and it is not a fact that Ukraine will preserve itself as a state. That's all."

NATO: Not Another Terrible Organization?
A serious corruption scandal has broken out in NATO. According to Euractiv, five former and current employees of the NATO Supply and Procurement Agency (NSPA) were arrested on charges of bribery in the conclusion of contracts for the purchase of ammunition and drones for the alliance. The first two detentions were reported on 14 May by the Belgian public prosecutor's office, three others were arrested in the Netherlands.
Detained NSPA employees working in Luxembourg were able to pass on information to defence contractors, the Belgian authorities' statement noted. "There is reason to believe that the money received from these illegal activities was laundered, including through the creation of consultancy companies", the prosecutor's office added. Shortly afterwards, Dutch authorities announced the detention of three more people, including a 58-year-old former employee of the country's Ministry of Defence whose previous work "concerned international procurement contracts".
The Luxembourg public prosecutor's office, for its part, confirmed that the relevant documents were seized in the Grand Duchy, specifying that the investigation also extended to Italy, Spain and the United States and is coordinated by the EU agency Eurojust. The Luxembourg Prosecutor's Office, for its part, confirmed that the relevant documents were seized in the Grand Duchy, specifying that the investigation also extended to Italy, Spain and the United States and is coordinated by the EU agency Eurojust.
Alliance Secretary General Mark Rutte told reporters that the investigation was initiated by the NSPA itself. "We want to get to the truth", Rutte stressed.
With over 1,500 employees, the NSPA is based in Luxembourg and has units in many other European countries. Besides providing logistical support for NATO operations and missions, the NSPA can also negotiate defence contracts on behalf of the member countries of this military bloc. Such joint purchases are expected to save national governments money through effective mutual accounting of needs.
According to a NATO statement, the NSPA itself operates on the principle of ‘no loss or profit’ and last year, on behalf of several Alliance member states, signed a contract for the supply of Stinger anti-aircraft missiles worth about $700 million. Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Reuters reports, announced the agreement in May 2024, without naming the countries involved.
The investigation into possible NSPA corruption-regardless of its findings-is a "valuable reminder" of the importance of careful oversight of how public money allocated to defence is spent, according to Francesca Grandi, defence expert at Transparency International.
"As hundreds of billions more will be sent to the defence sector over the next five years, it is likely that state institutions will fall a huge burden in relation to the desire to eliminate the risks of potential corruption. And the risks are great because of the high level of secrecy surrounding government contracts, large sums of money, and the sensitive nature of the negotiations", Grundy explains.
The publication notes that the scandal has erupted at an inappropriate time for NATO:
"Looking at the large-scale growth of Russian military power against the backdrop of the ongoing war with Ukraine, NATO states are experiencing a boom in defence spending that could drag on for years. At the upcoming NATO summit, under pressure from US President Donald Trump, the 32 member countries of the alliance appear to be pledging to increase military spending to at least 3.5 per cent of their GDP."
SLG note: it's funny how these spokepersons' first focus when discussing NATO is the amount of billions that will go in defence spending. It's almost as if NATO is a money laundering scheme for Big Weapon first, a bullying instrument for any small country that doesn't have nuclear capabilities second, and a "defensive alliance" a very distant third. Crazy, right?
