L'ÉLEVATION UNIVERSELLE DE LA SAINTE ET VIVIFIANTE CROIX DU SEIGNEUR

Les empereurs romains païens ont tenté de faire disparaître complètement le souvenir des lieux sacrés où Notre Seigneur Jésus Christ a souffert pour les hommes et est ressuscité. L’empereur Hadrien (117-138) ordonna que le Golgotha et la Tombe du Seigneur soient recouverts de terre et qu’un temple soit érigé sur une colline artificielle à l’honneur de la déesse païenne Vénus et d'une statue de Jupiter. Sur cet endroit, les païens se rassemblaient pour accomplir des sacrifices idolâtres.

Cependant, trois siècles plus tard, par la volonté divine, les lieux saints chrétiens - le Saint Sépulcre du Seigneur et la Croix Vivifiante - furent retrouvées par les chrétiens et rendues accessibles au culte. Ceci s’est produit sous l’égide de l’empereur Constantin le Grand, égal-aux-apôtres (fête le 21 mai).

Dmitry Alexandrovich Brianchaninov
(February 5 [18],1807-April 30 [May 13],1867) stands out as one of the greatest patristic writers of the nineteenth century. This great Russian saint left to Orthodox Christians a compass by which we can check our direction as we traverse the complex path of spiritual life, to avoid the dark forests and pitfalls of spiritual delusion and pride.

If it pleases God to give you knowledge, He will give it to you in due time, and in a way that the fleshly man cannot even imagine. Focus solely on the prayer of repentance and practice it with great care.
Try to bring about repentance through prayer, and you will know that you have succeeded when you experience spiritual poverty, tenderness, and weeping.
I wish you and myself such success in prayer.

La définition de l'Église en tant qu'institution religieuse peut être formulée ainsi : l'Église est une institution religieuse divine du Nouveau Testament, fondée par notre Sauveur Jésus Christ, par l'économie de son Incarnation, établie sur la foi en lui et la vraie confession, et inauguré le jour de la sainte Pentecôte par la descente du Saint-Esprit sur les saints disciples et apôtres du Christ Sauveur, qu'il a rendu des instruments de la grâce divine pour la perpétuation de son travail de rédemption. En cette institution est confié la totalité des vérités révélées ; à l'intérieur d'elle agit la grâce divine par les mystères (sacrements) ; en elle sont régénérés ceux, qui avec foi, approche le Christ Sauveur ; en elle sont préservés l'enseignement et la tradition apostoliques écrits et non écrits.

Ivan Ilyich Sergiyev
(31 October [O.S. 19 October] 1829 – 2 January 1909 [O.S. 20 December 1908]) was a Orthodox priest and a member of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church. He was known for his mass confessions, numerous miracles, and charitable work.

A real Christian doesn’t have any reason to be angry about anybody. Anger is the devil’s deed. A Christian should have only love inside and since love doesn’t boast, he shouldn’t boast or have any bad thoughts towards others. For example, I must not think about another person that he is evil, proud etc; and I must not think that if I forgive his offense he would laugh at me or upset me again. We must not let evil hide in us under any pretense. Evil and anger usually have many different veils. Don’t yield to gloomy feelings in your heart but control and eradicate them with the power of faith and the light of the sane mind. These strengths will make you feel secure.
Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. (Psalm 25:20).

Joyeuse fête !

La Croix du Seigneur est un croix en bois sur lequel fut crucifié Jésus-Christ. Après que le corps du Sauveur eut été retiré, sa Croix fut jetée dans un vieux puits destiné à recueillir les eaux pluviales. En l'an 70 après J.-C., lorsque l'armée romaine ravagea Jérusalem jusqu'à ses fondations, l'emplacement de la Croix disparut.
En 326, alors que Constantin Ier accèderait au pouvoir impérial, sa mère Hélène découvrira la Croix en Terre Sainte ; c'est en mémoire de cette découverte que l'Église institua la fête de l'Élévation de la Sainte et Vivifiante Croix du Seigneur.

Universal Exaltation of the Precious and Lifegiving Cross

Every year on September 14/September 27, the Orthodox Church celebrates the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, one of the most important church holidays dedicated to the discovery of the Cross on which Jesus was crucified.

Before The Time of Christ, the cross was an instrument of punishment; it evoked fear and aversion. But after Christ’s death on the Cross it became the instrument and sign of our salvation. Through the Cross, Christ destroyed the devil; from the Cross He descended into hades and, having liberated those languishing there, led them into the Kingdom of Heaven.
The sign of the Cross is terrifying to demons and, as the sign of Christ, it is honored by Christians.

What prayers are pleasing to God? Those in which we ask for something truly useful for ourselves and pray for the glory of God and the well-being of our neighbors, thus showing our love for God and our neighbors.

When we say "Father," we confess that we love God as our Father. When we say "Our Father," we recognize all Christians as our brothers and pray not only for ourselves, but also for them.

L'Église orthodoxe rejette fermement le feu du purgatoire, l'idée d'un feu qui purifie les âmes… Selon l'Église orthodoxe, il n'existe aucun ordre intermédiaire après la mort entre ceux qui montent au Ciel et ceux qui descendent à l'Hadès. Il n'y a pas de lieu intermédiaire spécial où se trouvent les âmes de ceux qui se sont repentis avant la mort et n'ont pas produit les fruits du repentir… Toutes ces âmes se rendent à l'Hadès, d'où elles ne peuvent sortir que par les prières de l'Église.

The mysteries of God are not the same as the mysteries of man. A man's secret is only need to be told once or twice, and everyone will know it perfectly.
However, the more you think and talk about the mysteries of God, and the more you preach about them, the more hidden, difficult, and incomprehensible they become.

The Lord calls to him all sinners; He opens His arms wide, even to the worst among them. Gladly He takes them in His arms, if only they will come to Him.

Faith does not consist of merely believing in the existence of God, but also in His all-wise Providence which guides His creatures and arranges everything for the good;
"the times and the seasons are put in His power "(Acts 1:7), and for each of us the limits of our life were determined before our existence,
"and without His will a bird does not fall nor does a hair of our head perish!" (Matt 10:29; Luke 21:28).

(26 August  1797, Irkutsk Governorate – 12 April 1879, Moscow), also known as Innocent Metropolitan of Moscow, was a Russian Orthodox missionary priest, then the first Orthodox bishop and archbishop in Alaska, and finally the Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna.

Descending upon a Christian, the Holy Spirit brings true love which warms his heart. This love inspires a person to do good deeds, so that for him there is nothing impossible or terrifying anymore. God’s commandments, which appeared to be difficult before, now become easy. Faith and love, gifts from the Holy Spirit, are such powerful means that the person possessing them can easily and joyfully follow the path of Jesus Christ.

(September (17) 30, 1892, Moscow - January 6, 1942, Yaroslavl) - archpriest, fourth child of Archpriest Alexei Mechev, saint of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Throughout his life, Saint Sergiy Mechev was a good shepherd to his flock, a beloved head of a church parish, and also an outstanding and unwavering witness of Christ who remained steadfast in his faith, ultimately rising to the highest form of service to Him, the feat of martyrdom.

The Lord calls us to repentance. Then it is up to us to recognize in ourselves our sin, first of all in relation to God, to the Church, the saints, prayer; then in relation to our close ones; and then in relation to our own passions. Each person is possessed by a particular passion, which gives rise to sin; we must work to uproot it. Confession is to confess that which especially weighs upon us at that time, whereas repentance should accompany us through our entire life.
