FC Bayern München v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Does the lad have a trick up his sleeve? Bayern Munich, despite its stature, has proven that other clubs can overcome the mighty Bavarians even if the bookies had the match in favor of the Rekordmeister. A young player like Aleksandar Pavlović must face this early on in his career, so how does he deal with that?“It’s always bad when you lose. But my motto is: stay positive, see what needs to be improved and give it your all again next time”, Pavlović explained at a Kids’ Club discussion (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia).It was then revealed by the 20-year-old that something has brought him luck (lucky for the results, his fitness not so much): his unique shirt number. “As a youth player, you’re simply given a random number in the first team”, he said. “For me it was 45. I’ve kept it until now and have no plans to change. I’m a bit superstitious, the number has brought me luck so far”.This was the same question asked of his Bayern teammate Jamal Musiala and Liverpool fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold, who don the numbers 42 and 66 respectively. Both players were assigned those numbers from the off and never bothered with changing them.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the performance of Bayern Munich’s attacking group during the first half of the season? FC Bayern München v RB Leipzig - Bundesliga Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Defeats against Spain and Real Madrid loom large in young Musiala’s memory. Jamal Musiala has become the most pivotal player at his club, Bayern Munich. However, one of the ills of being a Bayern player is facing Real Madrid a lot (and losing to them lately). 0-1 up in Madrid and within seconds of a UEFA Champions League final in the 23/24 season, Bayern managed to give it all away in the final few minutes. Meanwhile, one of the ills of being a Germany player lately has been losing to Spain. Germany, rather unfortunately and despite being arguably the better side, lost to Spain at the Euros in 2024. Musiala reflected on both moments when asked by Tz “Was the Quarterfinal exit against Spain your saddest moment of the year?” It did not take much prodding for Musiala to come up with a response. “In fact, both the defeat against Spain and the last-minute elimination in the semi-final second leg of the Champions League in Madrid against Real were very tough. After the defeat against Spain, my head was empty,” Musiala said (per @iMiaSanMia). “I hadn’t expected that, everything was going well, the team’s thoughts were very positive. Sometimes you can feel when a team is not in good form. Then a defeat doesn’t hurt quite as much. But when it feels unfair, it hurts very much.”Hopefully, Musiala and Bayern can win some trophies this season.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the performance of Bayern Munich’s attacking group during the first half of the season? FC Bayern München Annual Meeting 2024 Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Bayern Munich is probably ready to turn the page on 2024... 2024 was quite the year for Bayern Munich...not always in the best way. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen wants to shake that off though and think about the possibilities for 2025 — which could include playing in the Champions League finale at home. “My dream is that we reach the Champions League final at home. In my role — and as a Bayern fan anyway — there can be no bigger dream. I also hope that we’ll be successful with the upcoming contract extensions,” Dreesen told Tz (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). When asked if Florian Wirtz was part of his dreams for 2026, Dreesen handled the question the best he could. “I think Leverkusen don’t want to let him go. Regardless of that, we always want to try to have a top team that is internationally competitive,” Dreesen remarked. If we are going to shoot...let’s aim big — how about a Champions League final at the allianz Arena and an acquisition of Florian Wirtz. FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images The youngster arrived starstruck in Munich Bayern Munich does not usually tend to sign Australians. There are multiple reasons, but one of them is undoubtedly the difficulty in adapting from the land down under to Europe and Germany. Still, Nestory Irankunda’s talents were too good to ignore and so they splurged the cash to bring the Australian to Munich.Having spent nearly half a year in Munich now, Irankunda returned to Australia for his winter break. There, he visited the stadium of former clubs Adelaide United, even getting interviewed during halftime. Asked to described how these first months have gone, the Australian international had this to say:“It’s been good, Bayern Munich has been amazing. It’s been unreal, it’s a good challenge,” Irankunda added, via @iMiaSanMia. “It’s a lot different to the [Australian top division] A-League… their technique is unreal. But my language, speaking it is horrible. I can only speak English. My first session, I couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t really seeing Harry Kane, it was mostly seeing Vincent Kompany, the coach. He’s a legend and he’s been in the game for quite a while, so seeing him was unreal. And then obviously when you see Harry Kane, Leroy Sané and all these players, it’s even better because they’re such high-profile players and they’re very good. It’s always a dream to see players like this.”Of course, the dream has become everyday life for him, regularly training with the Bavarians’ senior team. Perhaps, one day, he will be one of the stars young players describe seeing with a breathless fascination. Admittedly, he already has gone a long way to attaining that status in Australia. If he realizes his talent, though, he might get that kind of recognition on a global scale.Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s 5-1 thrashing of RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga? FC Bayern München v RB Leipzig - Bundesliga Jamal Musiala gives a thumbs up to his teammates in Bayern Munich’s 5-1 thrashing of RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena on 20 December, 2024. | Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Musiala is joined in the top ten by only one other Bundesliga player. Bayern Munich are known to have some of football’s biggest stars, and subsequently some of the most valuable players in the world. Transfermarkt has released their top ten most valuable players in the world and, unsurprisingly, Bayern have one representative, sharing seventh spot with Bayer Leverkusen’s, Florian Wirtz, and Manchester City’s, Phil Foden (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Jamal Musiala is now joint 7th most valuable player in the world alongside Wirtz and Foden [@Transfermarkt] pic.twitter.com/d9LiOWJfSG— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) December 20, 2024Manchester City’s Erling Haaland comes in at number one with Phil Foden being the The Citizen’s second representative in the top ten. Real Madrid, predictably, have the most players in the top ten with Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé taking the second, third and fourth spots, respectively. Bundesliga fans have to look to the sixth and seventh spot to find their two most valuable players, Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala. Interestingly, the ongoing debate between who is better between the two German talents isn’t helped by their transfer values being exactly the same. The Bundesliga’s next most valuable player - Harry Kane - is only good enough for 20th spot. The rest of the top ten is made up of Barcelona wonder kid, Lamine Yamal, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer. CA Osasuna v Athletic Club - La Liga EA Sports Photo by Juan Manuel Serrano Arce/Getty Images Will Bayern Munich get Nico WIlliams? With Bild confirming the rumors of Bayern Munich’s interest in Jamie Gittens, the German outlet also took some time to address the report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg regarding the club’s rumored interested in Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams as well. The verdict? True. In addition to Gittens, Bayern Munich is looking very closely at Williams, who starred for Spain during the EURO 2024 competition, but has not found that same magic during the club season (two goals, five assists in 23 games across all competitions). This is what Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) had to say about Williams: @BILD confirms Sky/ @Plettigoal’s news: Bayern are interested in signing Nico Williams in the summer. The Spaniard has already been scouted by Bayern in the past and is listed very high on the internal list for the wingers of the future. Williams has a €60m release clause in his Athletic contract. The €60 million release clause is not terrible, but is enough to make some doubt that Williams would be worth it, especially after a tough start to his 2024/25 campaign. FC Bayern München v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - DFB Cup: Round of 16 Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Does he have a point, or is Hamann just going against the grain here just to go against the grain? It has already been on display a handful of time for the German national team, but Bayern Munich fans across the globe are clamoring for the future possibility of Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz playing alongside one another for the Rekordmeister. Bayern’s front office has already made it clear they are ready and willing to go all out for the Bayer Leverkusen phenom, but recent developments have suggested he is going to stay with Die Werkself and extend his current contract, but those reports were squashed by CEO Fernando Carro. A move to Bayern could still be in the cards this summer for Wirtz, and it would be a move that would significantly strengthen an already-lethal attack for Vincent Kompany’s side that currently sit atop the Bundesliga table. There are, of course, other clubs very interested in trying to sign Wirtz, but it seems, at this stage, it is going to be a transfer duel between Bayern and Leverkusen to see whether he will leave or stay with the reigning Bundesliga champions under Xabi Alonso.German football pundit Didi Hamann recently went against the grain, unsurprisingly, and warned Wirtz that he should not go to Bayern. The former professional footballer feels one of Musiala or Wirtz would suffer if they were playing at the same club. “I have big concerns about whether they will be able to play in a team. If both play in the same team, one would suffer. If I were Florian Wirtz, then the risk of being it (the player that suffers) would be too high for me,” Hamann ranted on an appearance of Sky90 (via @SportBild). FC Bayern München v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Positionally, Hamann feels, they are too similar in where they are best utilized by either their club managers or Julian Nagelsmann for Germany. For Hamann, there would be too much conflict based off of the tactical similarities between Wirtz and Musiala. “They are both best in the middle. Bayern have always played with wingers, so it may be that you push one to the side,” he rationalized. For Germany at the Euros, he continued “Wirtz was hardly seen. Musiala was the focus of attention at the European Championships and Wirtz had a supporting role, he’s too good for that.”In Hamann’s opinion, he feels that if Wirtz does want to leave Leverkusen this summer, he should go somewhere like Real Madrid. He feels that he would be better suited to occupy a central role in attack there, which is often times occupied by Jude Bellingham, though Carlo Ancelotti does give the England international a lot of tactical freedom. 1. FSV Mainz 05 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian El-Saqqa - firo sportphoto/Getty Images At least one Bayern Munich prospect appears to be staying put... Bayern Munich defender Adam Aznou made a strong impression during the preseason, but has been unable to break through into the first team because of the squad’s great depth and versatility. Even with the lack of playing time available, neither Aznou, nor Bayern Munich think it is a good idea to go on loan: Top talent Adam Aznou (18) is expected to stay at FC Bayern beyond January. A loan for more match practice at a high level is currently not planned by either the club or the player — even if there are concrete inquiries for January (Bundesliga and abroad).Sacha Boey’s injury and Aznou’s good development in training speak against this. Vincent Kompany is happy with the Moroccan international and has promised him more minutes in the second half of the season if he continues like this. In the long term, FCB is planning to keep Aznou - as a left and right back.A big factor in Aznou’s future could be what happens with Alphonso Davies. Linked to Real Madrid, Manchester United, FC Barcelona, and Liverpool FC, a departure for Davies next summer could open the door for Aznou to compete for a starting position with the first team. FC Bayern München v RB Leipzig - Bundesliga Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images The boss has some things to say... Vincent Kompany released an in-depth message to Bayern Munich fans via FCBayern.com, detailing his gratitude for how he and his coaching team have been received, his determination to provide the brilliant, attractive football and throwing in a couple of Bavarian phrases as well. It is best, however, to just read Vincent Kompany’s whole message:“Dear Bayern members, dear fans! Firstly, I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas, a nice holiday season and a good start to the new year. It’s a great honour and joy for me that I get to speak for all of us here at Säbener Straße – for our president Herbert Hainer, for our board led by Jan-Christian Dreesen, Michael Diederich and Max Eberl, for our sporting director Christoph Freund and of course for our players and the whole coaching staff. I’ve learned a Bavarian saying for 2025 that I’d like to use here: Pack ma’s! All together, with you! I’d also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank-you to all of you: thank you for how you’ve welcomed me and my team to Munich. I’m very happy when I look back on these first few months at FC Bayern. You’ve given me the chance at one of the best clubs in the world, and you’ve all made it incredibly easy for me and also my family to quickly settle into our new surroundings. I hope you like how the team are playing on the pitch. We were aware that it wouldn’t all click immediately at the start, but I can assure you that we’re working hard together with the players every day to excite you with every game. FC Bayern stands for winning, attractive football – that’s our expectation. [That will also be the case] in 2025.The end of the year is always a time to look back and reflect a bit, but in sport in particular you always have to look ahead. Unfortunately, we have to postpone our return to the DFB Cup final once again – but postponed is not cancelled, and there are other big goals in 2025: FC Bayern always has the ambition of winning the Bundesliga title, and there’s also a special pay-off waiting at the end of the season with the Champions League final here in our city, in Munich. I understand the desire to walk out at our Allianz Arena, and we’ll do everything to achieve that dream. But let’s go into the new year step by step, together, side by side. I’ve learned a second Bavarian saying, a quote from the great Franz Beckenbauer, who I always admired: ‘Schau‘n mer mal!’ (‘Let’s see!’)”Vincent Kompany Looking for some commentary and analysis on Bayern Munich’s first half of the season, including a suddenly red-hot Bundesliga title race, the biggest surprises and disappointment, along with where Bayern Munich can improve? CA Osasuna v Athletic Club - La Liga EA Sports Photo by Juan Manuel Serrano Arce/Getty Images Bayern Munich putting a scare into FC Barcelona? Barca sweating Bayern, PSG interest in Williams (Football Espana)FC Barcelona has been linked to Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams for months now, but the recent story linking Bayern Munich to the winger could have the Catalans feeling a bit nervous — especially because the release clause for Williams is rumored to be in the neighborhood of €60 million. To complicate matters for FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain is also rumored to have interest in Williams: Nico Williams attracted a lot of attention during the summer, after his impressive displays for Spain at Euro 2024. Barcelona were the most keen to sign him, although Athletic Club just managed to hold out for another year. However, they may not be so lucky in 2025. In recent weeks, the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have registered their interest, and according Bild (via Sport), the latter are expected to push hard to sign him during next summer’s transfer window.Bayern have already been informed of all the player’s contractual conditions, and also the exact price of the clause, which is believed to be worth in the region of €58m.Barcelona do retain some interest in Williams, and left wing is a position that they want to address next summer. However, they would need the Athletic Club to stand strong on only joining them, as they cannot compete financially with Bayern or anyone else.Williams’ production this season (two goals, five assists in 23 games across all competitions) does not seem to warrant all of this attention. Any team pursuing him should be a little bit wary of that, even if he played a starring role for Spain at the EURO 2024 competition. Chelsea, Gunners keeping on Vlahović (TEAMtalk via ESPN)Dušan Vlahović is still a prime candidate for both Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC: Talks over a new contract between striker Dusan Vlahovic and Juventus have come to a halt. Former Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn knows that the end is near for Manuel Neuer, whether that happens in 2025 or 2026. Per Kahn, Bayern Munich does have interesting options in Alexander Nübel and Daniel Peretz, but they need to show they can do the job. “Of course the club has to think about what happens after Neuer. There are several options. For example, relying on Nübel in one-and-a-half years. He has to show himself and prove himself now. He now has the time, if Neuer extends his contract, to offer himself,” Kahn said. “You also have to see how Peretz develops. What is also typical in a phase in which Bayern has had such a goalkeeper for over a decade is that there is a transition where there is a little more fluctuation until a goalkeeper of his quality and caliber is there again.”Bayern Munich could go outside the club to find that successor as well, but whoever it might be — they will have enormous shoes to fill. Bayer 04 Leverkusen v Sport-Club Freiburg - Bundesliga Photo by Christof Koepsel/Getty Images Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala together would be special... German outlet Abendzeitung captured an appearance by former Bayern Munich goalkeeper and CEO Oliver Kahn, where the German footballing stalwart indicated that the Bavarians are well-prepared to empty their coffers for Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz: The former boss revealed this in the “Doppelpass.” According to Kahn, even a price tag of 100 million euros will not deter the record champions in the future. “It’s no secret that FC Bayern can do a lot financially if it wants to,” emphasised Kahn, and revealed internal information from his time in the executive suite: “I experienced a lot, the budget was quickly forgotten. The main thing is that the player comes somehow.”That scenario could make things very interesting for everyone involved. Bayern Munich has the money to splash for Wirtz, but the youngster might want to stay with Bayer Leverkusen for one more season. Fortuna Sittard v PSV - Dutch Eredivisie Photo by Photo Prestige/Soccrates/Getty Images Did a deal fall through at the last minute for Bayern Munich? In a conversation with Sport Bild’s Christian Falk, Southampton center-back Armel Bella-Kotchap talks about how close he was to moving back to Germany, thanks to interest from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund back in the summer of 2023. Bella-Kotchap ultimately went to PSV Eindhoven on a loan in 2023, but it sounds like he was very close to a move to Bavaria.“Interest from Bayern and Dortmund makes every player proud. Things were even more concrete with Bayern. I had already spoken to Marco Neppe, the technical director of FC Bayern at the time. In the end, the move to FC Bayern fell through at the last minute because there was no agreement with Southampton. But we had an agreement in principle at the time,” Bella-Kotchap said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Once you’ve had the chance to play for such top clubs, it’s clear that you’ll continue to dream about it. I want to perform well again soon so that I’ll be interesting to clubs like Bayern and Dortmund again.”At 23-years-old, Bella-Kotchap could end up Bayern Munich’s radar again at some point. The summer transfer in 2025 should see the Bavarians chasing a complimentary center-back to team with Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae. Will Bella-Kotchap be on the club’s wish list? FC Bayern München v RB Leipzig - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Will the winger take less to stay in Bavaria? Former Bayern Munich and German national team star Stefan Effenberg hit on the topic of Bayern Munich’s contract discussions with Leroy Sané. For an extension to work, Effenberg thinks the Germany international will have to take a pay cut (via his column for Sport1): Among other things, Leroy Sané’s contract expires in the summer. Although he sent a clear message after the Leipzig game and said that he would like to stay, he will have to accept a reduction in his salary. It remains to be seen whether he will accept this, but in any case the talks must now gain momentum so that the club has a certain degree of planning security.Sané next few weeks could be interesting. Bayern Munich seems to be okay with a contract extension at a reduced rate, but the winger will surely get better financial offers on the open market. FC Barcelona is among the teams looking at Sané, but it is safe to say, quite a few Premier League teams would like to bring the German back to England as well.Looking for some commentary and analysis on Bayern Munich’s first half of the season, including a suddenly red-hot Bundesliga title race, the biggest surprises and disappointment, along with where Bayern Munich can improve? VfL Wolfsburg v Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga Photo by Luciano Lima/Getty Images The Borussia Dortmund star had his breakthrough vs. Bayern Munich... According to Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich is, indeed, keeping a very close eye on Borussia Dortmund attacker Jamie Gittens. Gittens is primarily a left-winger, but does have experience on both sides of the attack. With Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman as the team’s primary left-wingers during the first half of the season, it would make sense that the club is at least kicking the tires on a new look for the position. If should also be noted that Leroy Sané has also featured at left-wing while Gnabry and Coman have been hurt and has done well there. Regardless, Sané is a free agent this summer and Gnabry (2026) and Coman (2027) might not have long-term futures with the club either. One thing is clear, if Bayern Munich really wants Gittens, it will have to go to battle with clubs from England to get a deal done: Bayern are following Jamie Gittens’ development, as reported by Sky yesterday, but as of now there’s no contact with the player’s camp. Several top clubs have already come knocking for next summer, including some clubs from the Premier League.Gittens has none goals and fours assists in 23 games across all competitions this season. 1. FSV Mainz 05 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images A deal should get done between Bayern Munich and Jamal Musiala, but how long will it take? Bayern Munich and Jamal Musiala have been rumored to be close to an agreement, but per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, there are still three key areas where the club and the player need to come together on — salary, years, and an exit clause: Still no full agreement between FC Bayern, Jamal Musiala and his management regarding a new contract extension. Key points of disagreement remain: salary, contract length, and the inclusion of an exit clause for Musiala in the future. Bayern expect concessions from the player soon. Musiala still wants to extend his contract. The goal is to reach an agreement by January. The exit clause is certainly the most key point. We can assume that Musiala is going to get close to €20 million preseason in annual salary and at least four years, but an exit clause (and what the accompanying fee might be) could be a very contentious subject for the Bavarians, who typically shy away from including release clauses. Bayern Munich is still a heavy favorite to keep Musiala, but this could take a bit longer to work out if there is a conflict regarding the inclusion of an exit clause. On the surface, it is very doubtful that Bayern Munich will agree to that, so it could be a situation where Musiala’s camp is using the threat of an exit clause to negotiate a higher salary. FC Shakhtar Donetsk v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD6 Photo by Rene Nijhuis/MB Media/Getty Images Joshua Kimmich isn’t going anywhere....is he? Kimmich offered to Barca? (Forbes)Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has had a sensational season so far and has taken any thoughts of taking a pay cut in Bavaria off the table. With his status as a free agent next summer, Kimmich is extremely appealing to power clubs throughout Europe — and one of the most cash strapped cost conscious of those big clubs is FC Barcelona. The Catalans, of course, feature head coach Hansi Flick, who has a strong relationship with Kimmich. One report out of Spain indicates that an intermediary for Kimmich reached out to offer him to FC Barcelona: A Bayern Munich first team star has been offered to FC Barcelona by the player’s camp with a view to signing him as a free agent next summer according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources. The Catalans were loosely linked to Joshua Kimmich ahead of the 2023/2024 season. The midfielder was then-Barca head coach Xavi Hernandez’s most desired replacement for the legendary Sergio Busquets, who decided to call time on his tenure at Camp Nou and join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami after lifting the La Liga title as captain at the end of the previous term.In recent weeks, there have been rumors about Barca possibly snatching Alphonso Davies from both Bayern and the Blaugrana’s eternal rival Real Madrid, which The Athletic reported the Canadian has a verbal agreement with to join it in mid-2025.Both Davies and Kimmich’s deals expire on June 30 next year. Yet while Barca could do with figures that can play at left back and right back as these players can respectively, it is also in need of an explosive winger other than Lamine Yamal or Raphinha. In a similar fashion, Sane may also walk for nothing on the same date that Davies and Kimmich can cut ties with the Bavarians.Once again, SPORT says that he has been offered to Barca, which looks at him “out of the corner of its eye” amid interest from Premier League giants such as Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. It seems hard to believe that Kimmich authorized anyone to “offer” him to any other club. As of now, it feels like Kimmich will dive into talks with Bayern Munich in January and if things do not progress, maybe then clubs like FC Barcelona, Manchester City, and Real Madrid will be able to fully get into the running for the Germany international. Milan could be open to selling Hernández (Sempre Milan)AC Milan could be open to selling Theo Hernández after all: Theo Hernandez’s future at AC Milan remains in doubt, despite the recent words from his agent stating that he wishes to renew and stay. This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport has a section mostly dedicated to Alex Jimenez and Milan’s plan to renegotiate the terms of the deal with Real Madrid to remove/change their buy-back clause. They added a paragraph on Theo too, who has started the last two games from the bench but came on during the Verona game because of Rafael Leao’s injury. The Frenchman has so far seemed like a poor copy of the version we have seen, leading to Paulo Fonseca’s decision to give him some time out.The paper writes that he has seems ‘disconnected, apathetic, not very concentrated’, with the benching having not had the desired effects, at least so far. If for Leao the treatment was an effective medicine, it is not having any benefits with his wingmate.Theo’s future is in doubt even though his agent went to visit Casa Milan to discuss a renewal, admitting afterwards that he wishes to stay. Even if he does extend, the feeling is that Hernandez could still depart.Faced with the right offer, the directors would evaluate selling the 27-year-old with Bayern Munich – who are destined to lose Alphonso Davies – already at the window.Bavarian Podcast Works — The Bundesliga Rundown with Marcus Iredahl: Matchday 15 (Bavarian Football Works)Another special episode of the Bundesliga Rundown reviews…

Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae has been a locked-in starter this season under Vincent Kompany, teaming up with Dayot Upamecano to form an undisputed center-back pairing for the German Rekordmeister. But for the Korean international, that has meant putting up with pain — for a long, long time.“After the international matches in November, I checked the schedule — and there were still eight games to play,” Kim shared in recent comments captured by Tz (via @iMiaSanMia). “My thoughts at the time were: grit your teeth and get through it somehow. Now I want to recover well physically and mentally.”The good news for Bayern? The next competitive match will now not be until a date with Gladbach on January 11. But Kim, who according to this report was dealing with knee pain and pushed through using painkillers, will have to hope that toughing it out does not mean a longer road to eventual recovery. He would not be the first Bayern player in recent years to have burned himself out in the first half of the season — and the Bavarians can ill afford a blow to their center-back depth at the moment.Looking for some commentary and analysis on Bayern Munich’s first half of the season, including a suddenly red-hot Bundesliga title race, the biggest surprises and disappointment, along with where Bayern Munich can improve?
