Germany v Bosnia and Herzegovina - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Is it a realistic goal for a Bayern player considering the emphasis on certain superstars and the English Premier League when it comes to press coverage of the game today? It is surely quite heartwarming for any Bayern Munich fan to hear that Jamal Musiala has set his sights high. He wants to win the Ballon d’Or someday per @iMiaSanMia: “Yes, that’s my goal. When you grow up and see Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo holding the award, every player wants to be up there at some point.”However, Musiala has displayed immense professionalism for a player of his age and ability to date; he showed the same professionalism when continuing his response to the question: “But the important thing is not to put myself under pressure, just to play and try to win titles with FC Bayern and the national team. Then maybe one day I’ll have the chance to win it”Musiala on whether winning the Ballon d'Or is a goal for him: "Yes, that's my goal. When you grow up and see Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo holding the award, every player wants to be up there at some point. But the important thing is not to put myself under pressure, just to… pic.twitter.com/tGi8vrSqZA— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) November 16, 2024Robert Lewandowski was arguably robbed of the Ballon d’Or in 2020 (the award was not given out) and in 2021. However, maybe if Bayern Munich ever again excels in a single season like they did in 2019/20, Musiala might indeed have a chance to take home the prestigious award in the colors of Bayern Munich.Looking for some talk on the prospect of Bayern Munich teaming up Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala? FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Elyxandro Cegarra/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images Bayern Munich was impressive vs. PSG. Bayern Munich’s 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League was the product of a few things, but goalkeeper Manuel Neuer says it mostly had to do with the team’s work ethic and persistence. “We came up against a tough team in Paris here at home. We had to move them around a lot to keep the ball moving, they tried to put us under pressure, but we stayed calm. We tried to find the open man and probably played better when it was 11v11. But we’re happy about the three points at home, that’s now three in a row at home in the Champions League,” said Neuer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Our willingness to work hard. The transitions after losing possession, we were always right there, putting the opponent under pressure to turn the ball over. And the transitions into the opponent’s half worked well too, as we created a lot of threat.”Bayern Munich’s fight and resilience has been off-the-charts this season and those are not bad traits to start with for any team.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s massive 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League? FBL-EUR-C1-BAYERN MUNICH-PSG Photo by FRANCK FIFE/AFP via Getty Images Bayern Munich did it! Die Folgen: Bayern’s 1-0 win over PSG (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain were set for a heavyweight tilt and, boy, did they not disappoint. The first half was played in a frenzy and the second half seemed like it was on pace for more of the same, but some silly play from PSG doomed the visitors and let the Bavarians coast into a victory. Let’s not waste any more time, here are some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s begin with a look at the starting XI:

Starting XI for tonight’s #UCL clash! #FCBayern #MiaSanMia | #FCBPSG pic.twitter.com/xFPHFn9nCK— FC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) November 26, 2024The only mild surprises with the starting XI were with the wingers. Kompany opted for Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman over Michael Olise. In reality, it was not thoroughly shocking, but it does show that the coach might now be moving to embrace more movement at the position. Or...maybe Sané jumped over Olise in the pecking order. Either way, things are changing. Otherwise, Coman and Gnabry is pretty much like flipping a coin, though Coman was not good last weekend against FC Augsburg. PSG came out with a lot of life — they were aggressive and all over Bayern Munich.Leon Goretzka was in a great spot for a quality chance in the 4th minute, but his touch betrayed him. For as energetic as PSG was, Bayern Munich matched the intensity. Musiala ripped an attempt in the 7th, but it was saved by Matvey Safonov.Speaking of Safonov, you could slide him into any environment. Comic book convention, biker bar, carnival, IT department…dude has a versatile look to him.Konrad Laimer set up Sané for a decent look in the 11th minute, but Safonov was there again. Laimer was covering all kinds of ground early on. Coman and Achraf Hakimi had quite a battle on the left flank. In the 28th minute, Coman did some amazing dribbling to set himself up for a great chance, but he airmailed it. It was okay, because seconds later Warren Zaïre-Emery returned the favor by shanking a fairly easy chance. Manuel Neuer made a massive save on Ousmane Dembélé in the 32nd minute. Clearly, the attacking groups were starting to wear down each team’s defense. Finally, in the 38th minute, Kimmich lofted a beautiful ball into the box off of a corner, which Safonov misjudged with his punch, somehow landed in front of the net, and bounced straight up and was headed home by Kim Min-jae. Musiala should get some credit for being in the way of Safonov, without making contact. The shame of it for Safonov is that he made quite a few key saves before that error and played a pretty solid game.Seconds later, Coman got a step on Hakimi and barrelled down on Safonov, but lifted the ball over the net. The man needs to work on his finishing. It was not an easy chance by any means, but Coman is not shaking that perception of his game any time soon.As far as entertainment value goes, the first half was straight fire. The pace was so frantic, though, that it made viewers wonder if the teams could possibly keep it up. PSG started the second half with a real sense of urgency as Bayern Munich looked like it was reeling. Dembélé, though, lived up to his spotty reputation and picked up a second yellow card with a totally unnecessary foul on Alphonso Davies. It was Dembélé’s second yellow of the match, which meant PSG was a man down for the rest of the match. That was just the break that Bayern Munich needed as the Bavarians could play a much more methodical style. In the 66th minute, Neuer made an insane run up to midfield to receive a back pass from Kimmich (definitely not intended for him), which ultimately resulted in Kane setting up Coman for another great attempt…which he sent over the crossbar.Musiala hit the post in the 74th minute, which would have put the game out of commission, but this was not Bayern Munich’s best shooting performance. Not to be an alarmist, but Thomas Müller looked like he was lumbering. This was the same…

FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Elyxandro Cegarra/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images Leon Goretzka helped Bayern Munich take down PSG... Bayern munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has not had the easiest of seasons. With a front office that — allegedly — does not want him and a jam-packed midfield full of talent, Goretzka has had to scratch and claw his way for any possible minutes. Of course, given the injury situation of the midfield, Goretzka is now getting his chance to show what he can do. “Yes, of course it feels good. That’s why I’m here, to play football. I’m always happy to be let off the leash,” said Goretzka (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It’s a basic requirement for me to be professional. Of course I’m happy when that’s acknowledged. But that’s how I’ve tried to do it throughout my entire career. I will not change anything about that.”That attitude should serve Goretzka well in the months ahead. Once the injured players heal up, Goretzka will have to hope he has shown enough to warrant consideration for a larger role on the squad. FC Bayern Muenchen Presents FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013 Nominees Photo by A. Pretty/FC Bayern via Getty Images He is, indeed, one of our own In today’s football climate, staying at one club for maybe five years is already a lengthy period of time. On the other hand, guys like Thomas Müller are still at their first club—in his case, 24 years of being a Bayern Munich player stretching back to his academy days. The 35-year-old can certainly big himself up with that.“I’m happy about that; I’m enjoying it,” Müller said (BR24 as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “The Allianz Arena is a special stadium in European football, always full. We’re playing with the best players here. Things are going very well at the moment. It’s nice, but it’s not really something you plan beforehand.”It’s crazy to think that Müller has been at Bayern (since the year 2000) well before the Allianz opened (2005) or even broke ground (2002). For context, Cristiano Ronaldo made his pro debut at around the same age as Müller did. Longevity at its finest.

Paris Saint-Germain FC v Toulouse FC - Ligue 1 McDonald’s Photo by Aurelien Meunier - PSG/PSG via Getty Images Can PSG roll into Bavaria and get a win? Bayern Munich will take on Paris Saint-Germain later today in a game that many fans are anticipating. It is not just the fans, however, who cannot wait to see this match. Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabián Ruiz is also eager for the Champions League showdown. “We know that Bayern will put us under a lot of pressure and that the atmosphere in German stadiums is always spectacular. It will be very tough, but these are exactly the games we love at PSG. We have to approach the game as we would in an actual final. Then it’s about avoiding mistakes,” Ruiz told Bild’s Nico Linner (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “When 22 players with such exceptional qualities face each other, every small mistake is usually punished immediately — in every phase of the game. So we have to keep Bayern’s most dangerous players like (Harry) Kane and (Jamal) Musiala away from our penalty area and at the same time play our own attacking game at the highest possible level.”Containing Kane and Musiala is absolutely vital for PSG, but is far easier said than done. Both squads need a victory, which should heighten the intensity...and make for a very fun game for fans and neutrals alike. Looking to catch-up on the weekend’s Bundesliga action? FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Bayern Munich needs to take down Paris Saint-Germain... Bayern Munich is a very good team (borderline great) with an absolutely loaded roster, and an up-and-coming coach. There are a lot of positives to consider when evaluating the squad this season. However, there is one thing missing — a big, signature victory. When tasked with facing teams on their level or maybe even a little above their level, the Bavarians have not risen to the occasion. In the Bundesliga so far, Bayern Munich has faced two serious contenders for the league title — Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt. In both of those matches, Bayern Munich came away with draws, unable to put away the competition. Even in these games, Leverkusen is experiencing a downturn after a miraculous 2023/24 campaign, while Frankfurt is not exactly a juggernaut. In the Champions League, Bayern Munich has faced top-tier competitors like Aston Villa, FC Barcelona, and Benfica. A late unraveling against Aston Villa cost Bayern Munich the game, while Barca shellacked the Bavarians. Bayern Munich did win against Benfica, but it was a bit underwhelming against a team that probably is a notch below the Bavarians in terms of quality at this point.A win over Paris Saint-Germain, though...this would be a team that would give Bayern Munich the legitimacy this season that it is currently lacking. This Bayern Munich team is extremely good and has a chance to be great, but it will have to start its crusade to greatness somewhere...so why not now against PSG?Prediction: Bayern Munich 2-1 Paris Saint-GermainOther Champions League predictions include: Sparta Praha 1-2 Atletico MadridSlovan Bratislava 1-3 AC MilanManchester City 4-0 FeyenoordBayer Leverkusen 3-1 RB SalzburgYoung Boys 1-2 AtalantaRB Leipzig 2-2 Inter MilanFC Barcelona 5-0 BrestSporting CP 1-3 ArsenalRed Star Belgrade 1-2 VfB StuttgartSK Sturm Graz 1-0 GironaAston Villa 2-1 JuventusBologna 0-2 LilleMonaco 1-2 BenficaDinamo Zagreb 1-4 Borussia DortmundLiverpool FC 2-2 Real MadridCeltic 2-1 Club BruggePSV Eindhoven 3-1 Shakhtar DonetskBavarian Podcast Works — The Bundesliga Rundown with Marcus Iredahl: Matchday 11Thank the stars that the Bundesliga is back! After the international break, The Bundesliga Rundown returns, showcasing the thrilling drama from Matchday 11.From analysing the 7-goal ‘El Plástico’ thriller between TSG Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig to offering controversial VAR opinions, this episode has it all!Additionally, this episode will cover:Christian Ilzer: TSG Hoffenheim’s intriguing managerial signing. Why Mainz 05’s Bo Henriksen might be one of the most underrated coaches in the Bundesliga. Why Marcus is not head over heels in love with VAR.Dominik Salz: The most heart-warming story of the past week.Stay tuned for detailed highlights of the two featured games below.TSG Hoffenheim 4-3 RB Leipzig Holstein Kiel 0-3 Mainz 05Song of the Midweek: “Black Gold” by Soul AsylumSoul Asylum has been featured here before with “Can’t Eve Tell” (one of my all-time favorite songs), but not for “Black Gold.”Released in 1993, Soul Asylum burst onto the scene with a few big hits. My first run-in with them was with “Somebody to Shove”, but there were many great tunes put out by this band over the years. Undoubtedly, though, they had peak popularity there in the 90s. It is probably hard for the younger generation to understand how cool it was to hear a new song by a band on the radio back then, but hearing Soul Asylum release hit-after-hit in the 90s was something really cool. For whatever reason, it is just not the same today, but alt-rock radio in the early to mid-90s was just unreal. Enjoy: Tel to Stuttgart makes senseAccording to a report from Sky Sport journalist Dennis Bayer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich attacker Mathys Tel is an intriguing option on loan in January for VfB Stuttgart — but nothing is close to happening yet: Mathys Tel’s name has been discussed internally at VfB…

Paris Saint-Germain Training Session And Press Conference - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Bayern Munich will get a stiff test from PSG. Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha does not think his team will lack focus heading into its Champions League match with Bayern Munich. “It’s a big motivation to play a game in the Champions League, especially against Bayern, a big team in Europe. You can’t be more motivated. We know we have to win. It’s not decisive because we aren’t eliminated if we lose, but at PSG we want to win every game. Tomorrow is no different. We’re here to win,” said Vitinha (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We know we’re going to face a great team with world class players. I think they didn’t concede a goal for many games in a row now. We know what kind of team we’re facing. They apply a lot of pressure, but so do we. We’ll study them well, the coach will speak to us and I’m certain that if we follow the coach’s plan, we’ll get a very positive result.”This should be a fascinating match-up between two very talented teams, who both want this game badly. Hopefully, the real winners in this match will be the fans, who have been eager to see Bayern Munich answer the bell in a true heavyweight. FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Was the ref that big of a factor in Bayern Munich’s 1-0 win over PSG? Voulez-vous un peu de fromage pour accompagner ce pleurnicher?Paris Saint-Germain dropped a 1-0 decision to Bayern Munich and Marquinhos thinks it had a whole lot to do with the treatment that the French club received from the referee.“We don’t like to talk about the referee but he was harsh against us. He didn’t make it easy for us. All 50-50 calls were in Bayern’s favor. In the goal situation, the goalkeeper was blocked,” Marquinhos told Canal+ (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). While it might be true that PSG was on the wrong end of a few decisions, it would be really tough to argue that the fouls and cards were not well-deserved. Perhaps on another day, Ousmane Dembélé does not make the game about himself with two yellow cards...and maybe on another day, Bayern Munich does not fluff four quality chances. Regardless, Bayern Munich picked up the win and PSG can only lament what might have been.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s massive 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League? FC Bayern Muenchen Training Session And Press Conference - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Bayern Munich picked up a 1-0 win over PSG in the Champions League Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany downplayed his team’s need for a big, signature win in the pregame press conference prior to the German giant’s 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. After the match, though, Kompany sure sounded like a guy who had some weight off of his shoulders. “I’m obviously happy. Our pressing in the first half was very good. The discipline was there. We could have scored perhaps one or two more goals, but the result is good,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I’m not looking at the table because I don’t understand it yet to be honest. Hopefully it will look good when we win a few more games. We just want to win all our remaining games, then we’d have a good chance to finish in the top eight.”PSG did try and confuse Bayern Munich with its alignment and player selection, but the manager said the new look did not throw him off. “This tactical trick didn’t surprise me. Paris had already played without a real striker in recent games,” said Kompany.Surprised...not surprised...doesn’t matter. Bayern Munich bagged a big name with this victory, which was sorely needed. FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 What? A rock solid Bayern defense? Come again? | Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images That was extremely exciting and an absolute snoozefest at the same time. Bayern Munich turned an extremely winnable game into an absolute slugfest. Despite the advantage against an undermanned PSG in the second half, the game really went to the teeth when it had no business being that close. Sure, PSG were dominated on almost every stat, but not in the one that counts most: the scoresheet. Bayern really should’ve put this to bed early, and this should give Vincent Kompany plenty to think about.Jersey Swap: VitinhaThe epitome of a complete midfield performance. Brilliant going forward, with some delicious through balls and great ball distribution to both wings. More importantly, his defensive awareness was on point, as he dispossessed Musiala and Kane in some very dangerous situations and read attacks expertly. He was always there to cover for the defense and made some vital plays to stop goal threats before the final ball. This is what Bayern expects from João Palhinha.Der Kaiser: Kim Min-JaeThe definition of rock solid. Perfectly timed tackles, brilliant positioning, and clean, solid passing. The goal was just the cherry on top. Make no mistake, after the disaster against Barcelona, this man has risen from the ashes like a phoenix and is showing the world why Bayern paid a fortune to sign him from Napoli. If the #Kimecano duo keep this up, Bayern Munich has a great shot at silverware this season.Der Fußballgott: Konrad Laimer FC Bayern Muenchen v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Franz Kirchmayr/SEPA.Media /Getty Images Bayern Munich’s turbo engine. The man is a unit. His engine is incredible, and he simply never stops. Tenacious with tackling and just as good with his runs up front, Laimer bossed like a wide midfielder today. Yes, this is a rather unconventional pick given he started at RB, but he was excellent at drifting more centrally to shield the defense whenever required, while also exchanging positions with Sané and later Olise to draw out defenders and engage in some exquisite plays. With Hiroki Ito on the sidelines and Sacha Boey being extremely injury-prone, this is his position for the taking. And he’s making it his own.Der Bomber: NobodyLots of flair, too little substance. Bayern Munich’s attack produced numerous opportunities up front but lacked end product. It was a rather poor day in the finishing department, and the final ball was always lacking in quality. There is nothing more to say. This was pretty bad. Both Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sané might be nearing the end of their time at the club. Bayern is one Jonathan David/Florian Wirtz transfer away from shipping both wingers away to Manchester United or Chelsea.Meister of the Match: Alphonso DaviesSimply the best player on the pitch. Played his lungs out the entire 90. Impeccable with his crossing, pocketed Hakimi, and displayed excellent finesse and composure with the ball. He did get a bit too enthusiastic on a couple of occasions with his dribbling, and bar a scare in the first half courtesy of some wonderful link-up play between Dembélé and Vitinha and a loose ball in the dying minutes, he was exceptional. It is quite unfortunate that none of his wing partners did his work justice. His performances certainly warrant a contract extension. This man is tailor-made for Bayern Munich’s style. FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images Bayern Munich earned a badly needed win in the Champions League. In matches like these, the scoreline is what counts. Bayern Munich might not have been perfect, but earned three critical points in this Champions League campaign. It was by no means a bad performance, but the team still isn’t fully clicking yet.Defenders turned strikersKim Min-Jae has now scored his third goal for the club, after just recently scoring along with Dayot Upamecano. Bayern Munich have finally got some well-rounded goal scoring after a lack of defensive goals last season. It is a breath of fresh air seeing Kane and company getting a bit of extra help.Coman needs to improve his finishingCall us a broken record. Yes, finishing has remained Coman’s primary issue for his entire career. Tonight it could have costed Bayern yet another win. Coman should’ve scored without a doubt from his chances tonight. Olise almost certainly would have scored, but everyone has their off days. It seems as though Coman’s leash is a bit longer than most.Midfield depth paid offWith Aleksander Pavlovic and João Palhinha out, Leon Goretzka and Konrad Laimer held their own. It is times like this when a lack of depth can cost teams matches, but Bayern’s depth paid off when players like Laimer and Goretzka can step in.Bayern have a hard time putting away gamesWhen Dembele was sent off for a second yellow, it should have solidified the victory. Yet, Bayern struggled for a second goal while PSG threatened to equalize. Not every game can be 7-0, but this was probably too close than it needed to be.What did you think about the match? FC St. Pauli 1910 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian El-Saqqa - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Another clean sheet would be acceptable, Mr. Neuer. 12’: Konrad Laimer sets up Leroy Sané for a nice opportunity, but Sané’s one-timer isn’t enough to break the deadlock.7’: Jamal Musiala somehow finds himself alone in the middle of the box, but hits it right at the keeper.1’: CCCHHHAAAMMMPPPIIIOOONNNSSS!!!Leroy Sané will make his first Champions League start of the campaign. Sacha Boey and Mathys Tel are both coming back from injuries but are available. Expect to see Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise enter the match around the 60th minute.

FC Bayern München Attend Oktoberfest 2024 Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images From top to bottom, Bayern’s roster is all-in this season. After the 3-0 win this weekend over Augsburg, Bayern Munich’s winning streak stretched to six games. All six wins have come with a clean sheet, which is not an easy feat in the modern age of athletic and sensational scorers. A major factor for Bayern’s success is the consistency in player selection and rotation.Besides central midfield (Aleksandar Pavlović and João Palhinha) and right back (Josip Stanišić and Sacha Boey), Bayern have been on the luckier side of the injury bug. But when injuries have occurred, Joshua Kimmich knows that the next man up is always ready.“When I see how Eric Dier trains every day - he’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had,” said Joshua Kimmich (via @iMiaSanMia). “This kind of mindset also helps us as a team. Even though he hasn’t played many minutes, he’s incredibly important for us as a team. If you call him at 6 pm and tell him to come to training, he’ll be there and give 100%. It’s extremely valuable for us that no one slacks off and falls behind, but that we keep the competition levels high.”With each and every player contributing on game days or at the practice facility, Bayern is better prepared for the lengthy season than last year. Hopefully the end result is another trophy (or three).Looking for more chatter on the future of several key Bayern Munich players?
