Royal Canadian Legion branch to be sold after being infiltrated by bikers
The Woodbridge branch of the Royal Canadian Legion has been shut down by the national body for an unusual reason: It had been infiltrated by outlaw motorcycle gang members.
The decision by the Legion's national executive was delivered in a letter to members of Branch 414, also known as the MacKenzie branch, dated Feb. 12.
"It is with great sorrow that I inform you that the charter of the MacKenzie branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ontario Provincial Command has been revoked due to the branch's overt association with outlaw motorcycle groups," says the letter, signed by the Legion's provincial president, Derek Moore.
"The overt wearing of outlaw motorcycle club colours at Legion events and premises is contrary to the Legion's Articles of Faith and disrespectful of the sacrifices made by our Veterans."

2 found dead after western Quebec house fire
Two bodies have been found during the search of a house damaged by fire Sunday morning in Bowman, Que., provincial police say. The fire broke out around 8 a.m. roughly 90 kilometres north of downtown Ottawa, according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). Three people were rescued from the home and two people were missing.
Around 3 p.m. Sunday, the SQ said the flames had been brought under control. The victims were found later Sunday and weren't identified by police, who said autopsies are planned. The investigation into the cause of the fire continues Monday.

The social agency's future home known as King Thunderbird Centre, okimaw peyesew kamik in Cree, and the cost of that relocation, is at the heart of the legal battle.
According to court documents obtained by CBC News, the Katz Group alleges that it shouldn't have to make the donation because Boyle Street didn't try hard enough to fundraise on its own.
Meanwhile, Boyle Street argues in its own filings that the Katz Group is trying to get out of its commitment to help with the relocation now that it has acquired the downtown property it repeatedly offered to buy from the social agency.

Mother in Inuit identity fraud case pleads guilty, charges against daughters withdrawn
Karima Manji, along with her daughters Amira and Nadya Gill, was charged with fraud over $5,000 in September 2023. They were accused of using false information to obtain grant and scholarship money meant for Inuit beneficiaries from the Kakivak Association and Qikiqtani Inuit Association. However, Karima Manji pleaded guilty in a Nunavut courtroom, taking full responsibility for the fraudulent activities. The charges against her daughters were dropped. It was revealed that Manji falsely claimed her daughters were born to an Iqaluit woman and that she was their adoptive mother, enabling them to qualify as Inuit beneficiaries. However, the sisters were actually born in Mississauga, Ontario, in 1998.
