AI idols will make idiots of us all

We’re making utter fools of ourselves while claiming to have reached the apex of wisdom.

Society seems to be rushing headlong toward replacing God and humans with “giant statistical prediction machines” in a trend that seems as inevitable as it is concerning. Last week, an Axios report heralded the rise of “chatbot Jesus” and AI pastors. The day following that report a video advertising a service to turn deceased loved ones into eternal virtual companions went viral.

These ominous news bits come on the heels of Sam Altman’s announcement that ChatGPT would now offer erotica to its adult customers (and Elon Musk’s xAI already offered similar degenerate features). But as much as society is bent on its rushing, there’s an age-old warning that should cause humanity to pause: We become like what we worship.

In a parallel sin, throngs of people are now replacing the real human beings they should be loving, serving, interacting with, and learning from with AI-generated videos, images, and text designed to cater and submit to their every whim and fancy. Leaving aside the technology’s potential to go awry in lewd and ridiculous ways, the “everlasting grandmother” in the aforementioned viral video is an insidious example of this. Presented as a means of sustaining enduring generational connection, the fake grandmother exists at the beck and call of “her” descendants, guided always by their prompts, shoved away into cyberspace when undesired, becoming a rival to and replacement for the real, human grandmother who has died (and yet still exists).

Report indicates an increasing public resistance to data centers

The facilities suck up land, water, and power—driving up prices for all—and many locals are fed up.

Georgia has become a hot spot for data center development over the past few years: Some research indicates it’s one of the fastest-growing markets for data center development in the country (thanks, in part, to some generous tax breaks). It’s also now a nexus for organizing against those same data centers. Community opposition to data centers, a new report finds, is on the rise across the country. And red states, including Georgia and Indiana, are leading this wave of bipartisan opposition.

The new report was released by Data Center Watch, a project run by AI security company 10a Labs that tracks community opposition to data centers across the country. The company has been keeping eyes on this topic since 2023, and released its first public findings earlier this year. (While 10a Labs does offer risk analysis for AI companies, report author Miquel Vila says that the Data Center Watch project is separate from the company’s main work, and is not paid for by any clients.) But this week’s report finds that the tide has turned sharply in the months since the group’s first public output. The second quarter of this year, the new report finds, represented “a sharp escalation” in data center opposition across the country.

Labour’s net zero levies will become the main driver of household energy bills

Labour’s net zero levies will become the main driver of household energy bills next year, overtaking gas prices for the first time, analysts have warned. Green taxes as well as upgrades to the electricity grid will account for 60pc of energy bills from April 2026, Cornwall Insight said – far outweighing the actual cost of energy.

The shift undermines claims by Ed Miliband, the Energy Secretary, that gas prices are the primary cause of high bills. He has previously said that bills were high “because of our dependence on fossil fuels”. Craig Lowrey, from Cornwall Insight, said: “Wholesale prices are no longer the main story. The real pressure is coming from rising non-energy costs, with levies and policy decisions associated with that investment in renewables driving up bills.”

Household energy bills will surge to more than £1,800 next spring, Cornwall Insight predicted, partly because of the cost of upgrading the UK’s pylons, power cables and substations. With annual renewable subsidies running at around £20 billion, these alone make up a quarter of your bill. Grid upgrades will soon push bills up further.

China is buying much more gold than officially disclosed

The FT notes that publicly reported buying by China’s central bank has been so low this year - 1.9 tonnes purchased in August, 1.9 tonnes in July and 2.2 tonnes in June - that few in the market believe the official figures. Instead, echoing the same trade data analysis we did back in 2024 (and ever since), the newspaper points to work done by analysts at Société Générale who estimate that China’s total purchases could reach as much as 250 tonnes this year, or more than a third of total global central bank demand.

The scale of the country’s unreported purchases highlights the growing challenges facing traders trying to work out where prices go next in a market increasingly dominated by central bank purchases.

“China is buying gold as part of their de-dollarisation strategy,” said Jeff Currie, chief strategy officer of energy pathways at Carlyle, who says he does not try to guess how much gold the People’s Bank of China is buying.

“Unlike oil, where you can track it with satellites, with gold you can’t. There’s just no way to know where this stuff goes and who is buying it.”

Girls’ steep decline in desire for marriage is the destabilizing consequence of feminization

Feminism, abortion, the decline in Christianity, the normalization of cohabitation, and rising divorce all played roles in this phenomenon.

A new Pew Research Center analysis of survey data from the University of Michigan found that high schoolers are more reluctant to desire marriage now than they were 30 years ago. Twelfth-grade girls, specifically, are significantly less likely than their male peers to say they want to get married sometime in the future — 61% compared to the boys’ 74%.

That drop in desire to “get married in the long run” is down more than 20% points from 1993, when 83% of girls compared to 76% of boys said they planned to tie the knot someday. The itch to have kids is also down approximately 16% points from 1993, when 64% of high school seniors expressed hopes of becoming parents compared to today’s 48%.

The steep decline in willingness to get hitched and have kids aligns with declining national marriage and fertility trends. Since 1970, women’s marriage rate fell from 76.5 per 1,000 unmarried women to 31.3 in 2020. The fertility rate over the last 50 years, similarly, plummeted from above the replacement rate of 2.1 children per woman to 1.6.

Cal state schools require students to take DEI classes to graduate

The requirements come as other schools scale back their DEI missions amid a Trump administration crackdown

The University of California system made news earlier this year when it eliminated mandatory diversity statements for new hires. But at California's other public university system, DEI isn't in retreat—it's required.

Nearly every California State University campus requires students to pass at least one diversity and cultural competency class, according to graduation criteria identified by Do No Harm, a group that opposes identity politics in medicine. The exact requirements vary across schools, but they typically prescribe a specific course or allow students to pick from a list of classes that "explore the interrelatedness and intersection of race and ethnicity with class, gender and sexuality, and other forms of difference, hierarchy, and oppression."

Trump miraculously receives praise from New York Times

Miracles come in all shapes and circumstances, but here is a truly remarkable one: The New York Times has said something positive about President Trump. All he had to do was get most of the world to back his sweeping plan for bringing peace to Gaza.

It was a long shot, but he and his skilled negotiating team pulled it off. So much so that a Monday Times headline called it “A Major Breakthrough.”

The story went on to declare that the United Nations Security Council vote to support the president’s plan represents “a major diplomatic victory for the Trump administration.”

It is that, and a helluva lot more, including the fact that it already has saved untold lives, both Jewish and Arab, and will save many more each day if it is fully implemented.

French “greens” want to tax fast food restaurants

Parliamentarians from the Green Party explain their initiative by the fact that over the last decade the number of fast food outlets has “grown significantly”: this particularly applies to large franchises such as McDonald's, Burger King, and KFC, but local pizzerias and burger joints will also be subject to the new restrictions.

In particular, it is assumed that when a new fast food restaurant opens, the franchise agreement will stipulate a tax of €50,000, as well as annual payments of €10,000. If such a catering establishment opens closer than 300 meters to a school, the payments will be doubled.

Nicki Minaj stands up for Christians

Nicki Minaj made her name as a raunchy rapper — but on Tuesday, the iconic superstar put do-nothing diplomats to shame when she picked up a mic at the United Nations to denounce the world’s failure to defend religious liberty.

Minaj didn’t invent the dirty rap song, but with tracks like “Anaconda” and “Stupid Hoe” she changed the rules for female artists.

She ushered in a generation of vulgar songstresses and became a liberal darling for her explicit rhymes about women’s sexual equality.

Now she’s backing President Donald Trump’s efforts to quell the ongoing violence against Christians in Nigeria — and his White House is releasing TikToks with her raps as the backing track.

“Religious freedom means we all can sing our faith regardless of who we are,” Minaj said Tuesday, standing alongside US Ambassador Mike Waltz. “In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed,” she declared.

Beware false affordable-housing fixes — new Connecticut law hides a socialist wishlist

The Democrats’ lurch to the left is accelerating at warp speed — and Connecticut is the latest victim. The state legislature’s Democratic supermajority last week rammed through a bill that’s a thinly disguised socialist wishlist.

Cynically couched as a remedy for the affordable housing crisis, its real purpose is ideological: forcing Connecticut’s 169 towns to achieve what the bill calls “economic diversity.” Translation: If you’ve worked hard to own a home in a leafy suburb with quiet streets, you can’t live there unless everybody can — including those with low incomes and even the homeless.

The state, through regional councils, will dictate how many people at each income level a town must house. The councils are mere middlemen, a cosmetic addition to paper over a fundamental loss of local control.

This isn’t about allowing one apartment building in a town of single-family homes; up to 20% of a town’s housing will have to be “affordable” rentals. The bill even forces towns to let the homeless sleep in local parks or camp on sidewalks, despite the risk of crime and disorder. Public safety be damned.

Is COVID a CIA plot?

According to newly released emails, the United States Intelligence Community, led by the CIA and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, held regular meetings with Dr. Ralph Baric, one of America’s leading coronavirus experts, since at least 2015. Senator Rand Paul’s office has worked for years to obtain the documents.

Baric has been accused of engineering the Covid-19 virus in his lab at the University of North Carolina, but he has never had to testify about his role in the pandemic despite his well-documented collaboration with the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The newly released emails reveal that the CIA hoped to discuss “Coronavirus evolution and possible natural human adaptation with Baric” and that Baric held quarterly meetings with members of the Intelligence Community.

These emails are just the latest additions to the suspicious amalgamation of facts implicating the US Intelligence Community’s role in the origins of the pandemic, as discussed in The Covid Response at Five Years.

Warsaw should cut all funding to Ukraine, argues right-wing Confederation party

"The Sejm calls on the Ukrainian authorities to effectively fight corruption, carry out the necessary reforms and punish all those guilty of corruption crimes," the draft resolution reads

Poland has been a long-time supporter of Ukraine, but it now has one party calling for a stop to all funding as evidence grows that much of that money has reportedly been siphoned away by alleged criminals.

The Confederation party has announced a draft resolution in the Polish parliament, the Sejm, calling on the Council of Ministers “to suspend financing Ukraine from Polish taxpayers’ money” due to the ongoing corruption scandals.

The party has specifically requested that Poland stop paying interest for Ukraine on its EU loans.

“The Sejm of the Republic of Poland is outraged by reports of corruption scandals in Ukraine and notes the discussion on the scale of corruption in Ukraine and attempts to limit the independence of anti-corruption services,” the draft resolution reads, as cited by Do Rzeczy.

AfD Vice-Mayor to be removed from office after ‘accidental’ election

The right-wing Vice-Mayor of a town in north-western Germany is facing removal from the post only two weeks after she was elected to the office. Yesterday the city council of Bad Salzuflen, a town of 50,000 in the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia, announced it would hold a vote on November 19 to remove Sabine Reinknecht as Vice-Mayor.

Reinknecht is a politician with the right-wing Alternative for Germany party (AfD), which all other major German parties have decided to ostracise. All factions of the 70-seat city council except AfD itself came out in favour of the deposition vote.

In a joint press statement, the Bad Salzuflen Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Social Democratic Party (SPD), Greens, Liberals and other parties said: “Our common goal is to support democratic institutions, create stable conditions for political work and secure the reputation of our city in the long term.” According to the city charter, a recall can happen with a two-thirds majority without any specific reason.

The 66-year-old Reinknecht had only been elected to the office on November 5 after she received 16 votes in a secret ballot despite her party only holding 13 seats on the council.

Doctors Warn: Rising Antidepressant Use Among Zoomers Could Lead to Demographic Decline

The population is at risk because more and more zoomers are becoming addicted to antidepressants.

Doctors are seeing an increase in the use of these drugs among zoomers, accompanied by a decrease in libido, sexual desire, and sensitivity. For some people, these effects do not go away even after they stop taking the drug.

Experts warn that this trend could lead to a decline in interest in relationships, a deterioration in the formation of stable bonds, and, in the long term, a demographic decline.

Mamdani's plan would make New York the most tax-hostile place in US for business

When Zohran Mamdani and his supporters talk of taxing the rich, they usually mean it on a personal level — referring to his proposal to raise income taxes on New York City residents with annual incomes over $1 million. He estimated this would raise $4 billion a year to help fund his expansive agenda, including universal childcare.

Less attention was paid to the larger of Mamdani’s tax bids — a proposal to raise $5 billion by elevating New York’s top tax rate on corporations from 7.25% to match New Jersey’s highest-in-the nation level of 11.5%.

“If it works for our regional neighbor, why can’t it work for us?” Mamdani said in a June interview. After all, as his campaign issue guide put it: “New York’s corporate tax rate now lags behind 15 other states and Washington, DC.”

But, in New York City, Long Island and five northern suburban counties — where the bulk of the state tax base is concentrated — the corporate tax rate is compounded by a 30% surcharge for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

This raises the top rate throughout the region to 9.43%, fourth highest in the nation. Mamdani’s proposal would take this up to 13.7%, easily topping all states.

First lady Melania Trump and second lady Usha Vance visit marines

First Lady Melania Trump and Second Lady Usha Vance visited members of the U.S. Marine Corps along with their family members in North Carolina. The trip marks the first time Melania and Usha travelled together for a trip without their husbands.

Melania Trump and Usha Vance on Wednesday marked the Thanksgiving season by visiting with Marine Corps members in North Carolina and saluting the sacrifices of military families, who make up “the quiet strength of our nation,” the first lady said.

The wives of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance used their first trip together outside of Washington to visit with students attending school at Camp Lejeune, the largest Marine Corps base on the East Coast, and deliver upbeat remarks to some 1,600 uniformed, cheering Marines and their families at Marine Corps Air Station New River.

“Please know that our nation is thinking of you, praying for you and deeply grateful for your service,” Trump said of all service members stationed far from home during the holidays, speaking from a stage flanked by parked tanks and helicopters.

Maryland gives $6M to nonprofit leader who owes over $200K in back-taxes

Maryland has awarded $6 million to We Our Us, a nonprofit led by Antoine Burton, who owes more than $200,000 in federal and state tax liens dating back to 2017, according to investigative reporting by Fox 45 Baltimore. The situation has renewed concerns about how officials vet organizations receiving major public funding.

Gov. Wes Moore approved the $6.1 million Department of Juvenile Services contract to “engage justice-involved youth in Baltimore City.” The award came shortly after Moore praised Baltimore’s community partnerships, saying, “We know that partnership produces progress, and there’s no better case study than Baltimore.”

Burton, who owes $176,000 to the IRS and $32,000 to Maryland, told Spotlight on Maryland he has a plan to resolve his liens: “Right now, that's something that's being disputed… there's a team that's in place to make sure that funds are facilitated properly.” He did not provide any documents.

DJS said the nonprofit is in good standing with the state and has received $815,398 since 2023 through the Thrive Academy. It has not yet billed the state for the new $6 million contract. Gov. Moore’s office and DJS did not say whether they were aware of Burton’s liens before granting the award.

On Obamacare, are democrats trying to make a law or just a political point?

While Senate Majority Leader John Thune has promised Democrats a vote on a subsidy extension in the coming weeks, it remains unclear what legislation senators will vote on.

Press reports indicate that the House Democrat leadership will offer a discharge petition, one of the few ways for the minority party to guarantee a floor vote, associated with a bill to extend the enhanced subsidies. While text was not available as of this writing, those reports suggest that the leadership’s preferred bill will extend the subsidies, currently scheduled to expire on Dec. 31, for three years, through 2026, 2027, and 2028. An extension creating an Obamacare subsidy “cliff” in the fall of a year divisible by four — imagine that!

Sarcasm aside, the bill at least shows that Democrats learned their political lesson. As I recently noted, Democrats could have allowed the enhanced subsidies to lapse last year, to make the expiration a political issue in last fall’s campaign. Instead, they assumed they would have control of at least one elected branch of government in 2025, which they could leverage to demand a subsidy extension. (Oops.)

More to the point, no House Republican in his right mind will sign on to this petition. Over and above the fact that doing so will give control of the House floor to the minority, members of Congress would have to have a death wish before deliberately scheduling a fight on health care for the run-up to the 2028 presidential election.

Chinese firm bought insurer for CIA agents as part of trillion dollar spending spree

For years, Washington assumed that China’s outbound investment flowed mainly into developing economies hungry for infrastructure money. But as scrutiny tightens across the West, it’s becoming clear that Beijing’s financial reach extended far deeper into wealthy nations - and far earlier - than most policymakers realized.

Though the deal violated no U.S. laws, it triggered alarm. New research now suggests the Wright USA case was not an anomaly, but one instance in a vast global pattern. AidData, a research lab at William & Mary, has completed what it calls the first comprehensive tally of China’s state-backed investments abroad. Its findings, shared in advance with the BBC, show that Beijing has spent $2.1 trillion overseas since 2000 - roughly half in developing countries and half in advanced economies such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia.

Many of the investments mapped by AidData appear commercial in nature. But others align with China’s long-running industrial strategy, including the now-muted - but still operative - “Made in China 2025” program, which aims to dominate sectors such as robotics, electric vehicles, and semiconductors. Still, the scale of the financing behind many transactions raises questions about where commercial intent ends and strategic interest begins. What Western officials now see, Parks argues, is a coordinated push. “At first, they thought these were individual initiatives from Chinese companies,” he said. “What they’ve learned is that Beijing’s party-state is behind the scenes writing the checks.

Nuking the stupid

So it was refreshing — bordering on shocking — to hear Energy Secretary Chris Wright openly acknowledge that the Department of Energy's (DOE) Loan Programs Office will "by far" prioritize financing nuclear power plants moving forward. Wright said, clearly and unapologetically, "The biggest use of those dollars will be for nuclear power plants to get those first plants built," speaking to the American Nuclear Society. Fox Business reported that these federal dollars will be matched three- or four-to-one with low-cost debt financing to accelerate deployment across the nation. In other words: real capital behind real energy.

Think about that. After years of being told we should fear nuclear energy — the cleanest, most reliable baseload power source on earth — we now have a federal government willing to bet big on what actually works. This is the polar opposite of the previous ideological energy commandos who thought California blackouts were a vision of progress rather than a cautionary horror story.

For decades, America has foolishly ceded nuclear leadership to foreign competitors, allowed reactors to age into retirement, and turned itself into a uranium beggar. We voluntarily surrendered strategic control of the fuel that powers the safest and most productive energy technology in human history. Our nation uses tens of millions of pounds of uranium annually, yet we produce barely a fraction domestically. That's not just bad policy — it's reckless national-security malpractice.

Anti-christian judge prohibits mother from taking daughter to church

Child custody cases are often fraught with trying and unusual behaviors and demands, but the recent custody order from a judge in Maine has taken bigotry against Christians to a new level.

Emily Bickford had a daughter, Ava who turns 13 in January, with Matt Bradeen. The two were not married, and Emily has retained primary custody while the father has visitation rights. Emily is Christian and has worked to provide a foundation of faith for her daughter, something her non-custodial father opposes. He has been described as ‘hating’ Christianity. Bradeen took the issue to court, found a former ACLU president who had become a judge, and the war on religion commenced.

The judge issued a custody order that can only be viewed as hostile to Christianity. The order forbids Ava from associating with any of her church friends, attending church or Christian events, and even prevents Ava from studying the Bible, “religious philosophy,” or discussing her faith with her own mother. Ava is also not allowed to participate in Christian holiday events such as Christmas.

Zelensky's Last-Ditch Effort to Save His Political Skin: Trump's Cold Shoulder and the EU's Dismal Response

As Ukraine’s corruption scandal swirls through the highest echelons of power, President Zelensky finds himself scrambling to salvage his political career. Zelensky is panicking, his desperation is palpable. With the NABU increasingly implicating figures close to him, the Ukrainian leader seems to understand that his days in power may be numbered.

In a bid to regain some control, Zelensky is trying to arrange a personal meeting with Trump. According to sources, Zelensky is hoping for a lifeline—a chance to negotiate directly with the White House, perhaps to broker a deal that could secure his future. But Trump, ever the pragmatist, has made it clear that he’s not interested in a face-to-face meeting with the embattled Ukrainian president.

Instead, reports of a potential phone call between the two have surfaced, though it remains unclear whether that conversation will actually take place. The skepticism surrounding this proposed dialogue is evident. Given Trump’s tendency to keep his dealings focused and strategic, it’s hard to imagine him offering any favors to a figure whose credibility is rapidly crumbling on the global stage.

Moreover, the timing of this phone call—allegedly set for next week—raises further questions. Zelensky’s plan, which includes consultations with European leaders, is already meeting stiff resistance, with Poland, Italy, France, Lithuania, and Germany making their objections clear. The EU’s involvement in Ukraine’s future is no longer the unquestioned support it once was. Leaders are now balking at Zelensky’s peace proposals, and it’s likely that Trump will align with this European hesitation, especially given his increasingly critical stance on ongoing US involvement in the conflict.

In fact, sources close to the matter indicate that Marco Rubio, the influential US senator, is stepping up to defend the EU's opposition, while EU diplomats hope to rally behind him to steer the conversation in their favor. If this phone call takes place, it will likely do little to change the trajectory of Ukraine’s deteriorating situation. Instead, it will serve as another reminder of Zelensky’s declining influence—not only in Kyiv but on the world stage.

Zelensky’s political survival is now tethered to a slim thread, and his frantic outreach to Trump speaks volumes about how far he’s willing to go to preserve his grip on power. But as the corruption investigations deepen and Europe’s patience wears thin, it seems increasingly unlikely that any call with Trump will be enough to save him from the inevitable.

The pin is pulled

The pin has been pulled — and suddenly the political hand-grenade that is the Jeffrey Epstein file dump is rolling directly back toward the Democrats, not the intended target. For years, they were utterly convinced they could use Jeffrey Epstein to destroy Donald Trump. They insisted Trump was secretly connected, complicit, or even accessory to Epstein’s sickness.

But now that the real records are hitting the light of day? It turns out Donald J. Trump was the only major figure who actually cut ties, took action, and spoke out. He didn’t just distance himself — he banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago after Epstein behaved inappropriately toward a young woman.

The newly revealed documents show a long list of Democrat power players who continued communicating with Epstein well after his 2008 conviction and who maintained cozy and strategic relationships that have nothing to do with “innocent social interaction” and everything to do with influence, fundraising, and elite protection networks. As Ed Morrissey notes in his HotAir analysis this week, the political class believed these files would detonate a mushroom cloud over Trump. Instead, Morrissey writes, “this is a hand grenade, and Democrats are the ones likely to get blown up.” They pulled the pin, but they were apparently too giddy and too blind to realize they were holding it.
