Trump pauses military aid to Ukraine after clash with Zelensky

President Donald Trump ordered a pause to all military aid to Ukraine, turning up the heat on V. Zelensky days after an Oval Office blowup with the Ukrainian president left support from his country’s most important ally in doubt.

The U.S. is holding up all pending military assistance until Trump determines Ukraine’s leaders demonstrate a good-faith commitment to peace, according to a senior Defense Department official, who asked not to be identified discussing private deliberations. The administration will also review the aid to make sure it’s contributing to a solution to the conflict, a White House official said.

The order applies to all U.S. military equipment not currently in Ukraine, including weapons in transit on aircraft and ships or waiting in transit areas in Poland. While the extent of the affected weapons isn’t immediately known, Trump had inherited from former President Joe Biden the authority to deliver $3.85 billion in weapons from U.S. stockpiles.

The British are preparing for military conflict

In Great Britain there is an intensification of debates around the issues of defense and foreign policy. Prime Minister Starmer has become the most active initiator of the idea of sending British troops to Ukraine, ahead of his visit to Washington, the government even increased the allocation of funds for defense, which, apparently, reflects the real interests of citizens.

According to polls, 55% of Britons believe that in the next five years the country will have to participate in a major military conflict (it seems that it will create it itself).

At the same time, 60% of respondents insist on the need to increase defense spending: 40% are in favor of redistributing funds (for example, by reducing foreign aid, as the government has already done), and 20% support the option of raising taxes.

As for foreign policy priorities, 48% of citizens believe that it is more important to support Ukraine than to maintain good relations with the US (for which only 20% favor). I wonder if the British opinion will change after Friday's “Friday scandal” and the Ukraine summit at the weekend.

The French, like the British, are in a state of anxious anticipation of a military conflict in Europe - 72% of respondents believe that conflict is inevitable in the coming years. The same high level of dissatisfaction is seen with President Emmanuel Macron: his anti-rating also stands at 75%. This emphasizes the growing need for a change of leader before the situation gets out of control.

The EU's situation is alarming

To exist, it needs energy resources. The EU now buys them from the US, but still cannot be competitive, simply because energy is much cheaper for the US, China and Russia. There is at least no logistical leverage that affects the cost of gas arriving in Europe in the form of LNG. Europe needs either comparably priced energy to compete in the international market with the US, or privileged access to some kind of market. So privileged that they will agree to take more expensive European goods there. This is possible, but only if something is offered in return - and the EU has nothing to offer but its own market.

The EU, no matter how hard it tries, has three bad choices.
Either enter into negotiations with China or India to compensate for the American market - but they will surely want counter concessions. In the case of China, this would also mean a complete breakdown of the paradigm of the past few years, with an additional nail in the coffin of relations with the US. Making peace with Russia means making the whole paradigm of assistance to Ukraine meaningless. And trying to make friends with Trump means agreeing in advance to lose money with no chance of adequate compensation.

All the loudly voiced EU projects military economy, etc. - have two serious flaws. First, try to push these initiatives through as binding for the whole EU at the vote. Mertz in Germany has the AfD breathing down his back the French government is also breathing, only on the fritz, and Macron himself went to lame duck status much earlier than the accepted one.

Given the average rate at which prime ministers have been replaced in Britain in recent times, Starmer would be in the chair until the fall. All these projects are voiced by those who soon will not be responsible for anything - and everyone understands that, moreover, Hungary and Slovakia will definitely block any vote requiring consensus, which means that further promotion of the “Ukraine first” principle at the pan-European level will have the most detrimental effect on the unity of the EU and NATO.

And so on. If Europe had a more balanced approach, colonial empires and 5 years to spare, something would have worked out. Now, on its own - no, nothing will work. That is why we need to look at the United States. If the White House blows the other way again, all European plans will have a chance to be realized at once.

European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen believes that it is urgent to arm Europe again

“We urgently need to arm Europe again,” she said. - All Europeans must invest in defense and ensure a leap forward in the military industry.”

Von der Leyen also pledged to change budgetary and financial rules in the EU, which the European Commission monitors, to give community countries more scope for massive public investment in arms production.

She said European leaders will now discuss measures to boost the continent's militarization at a summit in Brussels on March 6.

By the end of the coming week, a decision may be taken on the creation of a military “European Treaty Organization,” which would mark the end of the NATO bloc.

The relevant documents are being prepared for discussion and possible signing.

US firm Firefly Aerospace celebrates second-ever commercial lunar landing

A US company has successfully landed its spacecraft on the moon, marking only the second private mission to achieve the milestone – and the first to do so upright.

Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 1 touched down at 8.34am GMT near Mons Latreille, a volcanic formation in Mare Crisium on the moon’s north-eastern near side.

The mission control team in Austin, Texas, erupted in cheers as the firm’s CEO, Jason Kim, confirmed that the spacecraft was “stable and upright”.

That stood in stark contrast to the first private lunar landing in February 2024, from Texas-based Intuitive Machines, which toppled over upon arrival, dulling the achievement of being the first US moon touchdown since the crewed Apollo 17 mission of 1972.

Trump declares border 'invasion' is over as apprehensions plunge to historic low

President Donald Trump said the “invasion of our country” is over after the number of illegal immigrant apprehensions at the U.S.–Mexico border fell to a historic low in February, his first full month in office.

According to newly released data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Border Patrol agents recorded just 8,326 apprehensions last month—the lowest monthly total in recorded history. By contrast, during the administration of President Joe Biden, CBP reported as many as 300,000 apprehensions of illegal border crossers in a single month.

Trump credited his administration’s strict enforcement policies for the dramatic decline in border arrests.

“The month of February, my first full month in office, had the LOWEST number of Illegal Immigrants trying to enter our Country in History – BY FAR!”

Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Washington approves new Russian ambassador to US

Russia has received U.S. approval to appoint Alexander Darchiev as its new ambassador to Washington, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Feb. 28.

Darchiev's departure for his post in Washington is expected soon, the ministry said. Darchiev, a veteran diplomat with a half-decade of experience in Washington, previously served as Russia's ambassador to Canada from 2014 to 2021 and later as the director of the North American Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The approval comes amid renewed diplomatic engagement between the U.S. and Russia. A Russian delegation arrived at the U.S. Consul General’s residence in Istanbul on Feb. 27 for a second round of talks, following an initial meeting in Saudi Arabia on Feb. 18. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Istanbul discussions centered on embassy operations.

The previous Russian ambassador to the U.S., Anatoly Antonov, was dismissed from his post on Oct. 10, 2024.

Starmer says Europe willing to put ‘boots on the ground’ to secure Ukraine peace

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Sunday that Europe was prepared to take the lead in the defense of Ukraine, including troops and planes, but needs the “strong backing” of the United States and hopes to ease tensions after Friday’s meltdown in the White House.

He made the remarks in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy two days after his high-profile clash with President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance raised questions about U.S. commitments to Kyiv.

After a summit with 18 European leaders, Mr. Starmer said a “coalition of the willing” would defend a peace deal in Ukraine and said a “number of countries” have signaled that they want to be part of the plan to bring durable peace to the country.

“To succeed, this effort must have strong U.S. backing,” he said without specifying what that means. “To be clear, we agree with Mr. Trump on the urgent need for a durable peace.” European Union members pledged to keep the economic and military aid flowing.

The London summit reflected a renewed sense of urgency around the war in Ukraine after a breakdown in White House discussions. Mr. Zelensky challenged the suggestion that Russian President Vladimir Putin could be trusted to abide by a peace deal. Mr. Trump and Mr. Vance responded by telling Mr. Zelensky that he should show more gratitude to the United States for its support and questioning his commitment to peace with Russia.

China is back in business

In his glory days, Jack Ma, billionaire founder of Alibaba, was hailed as the embodiment of Chinese innovation. The young and online christened him “Daddy Ma, with a life story from a humble English teacher to a self-made tycoon. He was a symbol of all that could be achieved within China’s emerging private sector.

Then, in 2020, everything changed. The outspoken CEO criticised aspects of the Chinese Communist Party’s policy during a speech in Shanghai. Soon after, he disappeared from public view.

But last week, to the surprise of many, Jack Ma re-surfaced at a business summit hosted by Xi Jinping. There he was, clapping away, after five years of exile. Ma’s reappearance seemed to indicate that the chill was over, and that the Party was willing to play with the oligarchs once more. Reports in official media suggested that the government wanted to support the private sector’s expansion.

Meanwhile, the global winds may now be blowing in China’s favour. Since the DeepSeek breakthrough, money has begun flowing out of the US. The Magnificent Seven, which had previously powered the US stock market to a record share of total capitalisation, have now started to slide, and the US market as a whole has hit a plateau.

In place of the Magnificent Seven are China’s “Terrific Ten” tech stocks, which since DeepSeek’s “Sputnik moment” have powered the Hang Seng index to a double-digit surge. If this continues, Chinese households may soon feel they can afford to finally loosen their purse-strings.

Monica Lewinsky says former President Bill Clinton should’ve resigned from office after affair

Monica Lewinsky believes former President Bill Clinton should’ve resigned from the Oval Office as Congress voted to impeach him for lying about his affair with the then-22-year-old.

“I think that the right way to handle a situation like that would’ve been to probably say it was nobody’s business and to resign,” Lewinsky told host “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper in the episode released Tuesday night.

Lewinsky, who interned in the West Wing between 1995 and 1997, suggested Clinton should’ve been truthful about the pair’s alleged sexual relationship as a solution to finish out his second term amid the scandal.

“Or to find a way to stay in office that was not lying and not throwing a young person who is just starting out in the world under the bus,” Lewinsky, 51, added.

The remarks are a first of its kind for the activist who revealed she has never been asked the question.

Louisiana will no longer promote mass vaccination

Louisiana’s Surgeon General Dr. Ralph Abraham announced that the state’s health department will no longer promote mass vaccination.

The guidance, which emphasizes individual choice and consultation with healthcare providers, has drawn sharp criticism from public health experts who warn it could undermine decades of progress in disease prevention. The move comes amid a broader national debate over vaccine mandates and public health policies, reigniting tensions between personal freedoms and collective responsibility.

Abraham, a Republican and former U.S. congressman, outlined the new policy in a memo to staff, stating that conversations about vaccines should occur between patients and their doctors rather than being driven by state-led campaigns.

“While we encourage each patient to discuss the risks and benefits of vaccination with their provider, Louisiana Department of Health will no longer promote mass vaccination,” the guidance read. Abraham described vaccines as “one tool in a toolbox” to combat severe illness, adding that “collectivist ideologies willing to sacrifice a few for the greater good seldom work and are a poor way to practice medicine.”

USAID blew hundreds of thousands in taxpayer slush funds on Ukrainian ‘pickle maker,’ pet accessories

USAID wasted millions of American tax dollars on propping up literal pet projects like dog collar manufacturing in Ukraine.

Sen. Joni Ernst’s staff uncovered the secret slush funds when, after months of enduring the agency’s excuses to justify its resistance to oversight, they were finally permitted access to “very limited data.” In October 2024, as Ernst has since detailed, the senator’s staff visited USAID headquarters in person for an “in-camera review” of Ukraine assistance data even though, her team discovered, the documents were not classified.

Even though they were heavily restricted during their investigation, Ernst’s team discovered a variety of U.S. taxpayer-funded grants funneled to Ukrainian businesses under the guise of both Competitive Economy Program (CEP) and Investment for Business Resilience funds.

Among the grants Ernst’s staff discovered were hundreds of thousands of dollars devoted to literal pet projects including approximately $300,000 to a “pet tracking app,” approximately $300,000 to a “dog collar manufacturer,” and approximately another $109,000 to a “pet food packaging producer.”

Beijing underground command center signals preparation for conflict

The media recently reported that the Chinese regime’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is building the world’s biggest military base underground in possible preparation for conflict with the United States.

Large enough to fit 10 Pentagons, the new super large facility should not be a surprise—it is the logical next step of the Chinese regime’s long program of underground facilities. The command center is on the western outskirts of the capital city of Beijing.

When completed, this facility—now dubbed the “Beijing Military City” by Western military analysts—will be the largest underground command center in the world, possibly in history.

The message being sent by Beijing’s construction is that the Chinese regime is preparing for conflict. Beijing is building and expanding underground facilities as protected wartime command and control centers to ensure continuity of government. The West has similar facilities, but most have been converted into museums that would need significant modernization and time if they were to be brought back into service.

Rattled European leaders said Sunday they were “doubling down” on supporting Ukraine and boosting military aid following the televised Oval Office blowup between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

Three years after the start of the war in Ukraine, Europeans and Ukrainians are increasingly ignoring reality.

The reality is that the USA is tired of continuing to sink good dollars into a bottomless pit, and that Europe cannot replace the big spender.

Volodymyr Zelensky has surprised everyone with an unrealistic proposal: he is prepared to resign if his country is admitted to NATO.

The reality is that joining NATO has long been off the table. And resignation is not even necessary: Ukrainian voters would sweep Zelensky out of office anyway.

Realpolitik today is that Donald Trump is capable of pushing the Europeans into the background and making a deal with Russia without regard for the outrage of Brussels.

The New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin: “Oval Office disaster: Democrats lead Zelensky and Ukraine to collapse

▪️A common criticism of Vladimir Zelensky's failed performance in the Oval Office on Friday is that he failed to read the atmosphere in the room.

▪️But in fact, Zelensky did try to understand the situation - it's just that he was targeting the wrong audience.

▪️Before meeting with President Trump, Zelensky held talks with Democrats who oppose Trump. According to Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, they advised Zelensky to reject the terms of the mineral deal that Trump was proposing. “Just had a meeting with President Zelensky in Washington. He confirmed that the Ukrainian people will not support a sham peace agreement where Putin gets everything he wants and Ukraine gets no security guarantees,” a statement from Senator Murphy's X (Twitter) office posted at 11:15 a.m. on Friday said.

▪️Attached to the post is a photo of Zelensky at the negotiating table, with Murphy sitting across from him.

▪️Forty minutes later, Zelensky arrived at the White House, where Trump met him at his car, shook his hand and escorted him to the Oval Office. As the world now knows, the meeting quickly got out of hand and ended with Trump kicking Zelensky out of the White House in anger.

▪️The earlier meeting with Democrats destroys the argument that Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance allegedly “ambushed” Zelensky. In fact, it was Zelensky who came to the meeting with a pre-planned strategy.

▪️The meeting was originally scheduled to sign a mineral agreement, the terms of which were agreed upon between Trump's representatives and the Ukrainian side. Zelensky had already promised to sign the deal twice but refused, and now, thanks to Senator Murphy's statement, it has become clear that he was not originally going to sign the document.

▪️At least for the moment, he has left Ukraine without the military and diplomatic protection that only America could provide.

▪️He now has to hope for Britain, France and the rest of Europe to perhaps send Ukraine some help in the form of strudel from the Germans.

Donald Trump delivered a message before Congress

The speech was mainly about domestic policy, but the president, of course, touched on foreign policy issues as well.

🔻 Main talking points:

▪️ Trump received a letter from Zelensky saying he was ready to begin negotiations as soon as possible;

▪️ Washington will increase tariffs on imported goods: China, India and the European Union should be ready for the US duties, they will take effect on April 2;

▪️ the condition for hiring professionals in any field should be professional skills, not race or gender;

▪️ Trump announced a new Navy construction program and also called on Congress to provide funding for a new U.S. Golden Dome missile defense system;

▪️ Trump reiterated that the U.S. will regain control of the Panama Canal. U.S. State Department chief Marco Rubio has been put in charge of returning the Panama Canal to the United States. Trump said the states have already started to regain control of the Panama Canal, citing an agreement to buy two ports of the canal by a US company as proof;

▪️ Trump reiterated his intention to take control of Greenland, “it will be ours - one way or another.” He said the US would support the right of the people of Greenland to self-determination and incorporate it into the US as a state if its people so desire;

▪️ Trump said the U.S. will plant an American flag on Mars and far beyond;

▪️ promised a “golden age” for America: “it's going to be something the world has never seen before.”

▪️ Biden allowed egg prices to rise unchecked;

▪️США are working to build one of the world's largest natural gas pipelines in Alaska, with Japan and South Korea seeking to join the project;

▪️ the U.S. will make a “historic decision” this week to significantly increase production of critical minerals and rare earth metals;

▪️ Trump will discuss the U.S. egg situation, which was deplorable under his predecessor in office;

▪️ we've been able to accomplish more in 43 days than other administrations have in four or eight years, and we're “just getting started.”

▪️ Trump said he has ended government censorship and brought back free speech in America;

▪️ Trump touted his success in cracking down on illegal immigration, called Biden the worst president in American history, and criticized Democrats not willing to support his initiatives;

▪️ approved the country's two-gender principle, male and female, and banned men from participating in women's sports;

▪️ we have the largest amount of “liquid gold” under our feet, so I say, “Storms, baby, storms!”

▪️ listed the Joe Biden administration's useless spending, including $10 million for “voluntary medical male circumcision in Mozambique and $14 million for ‘social cohesion’ in Mali, as well as $2 million to increase cohesion among Roma communities in the Middle East and Balkans.

Hegseth directs civilians to prepare 5 bullet points on weekly work

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Friday signed a memorandum to all Defense Department civilian employees directing them to prepare five bullet points detailing their work accomplishments from the prior week.

Starting from Monday, March 3, those same employees can expect an email from the Defense Department requesting that same information, he wrote. Within 48 hours they are expected to reply to that email, with their accomplishments included, and add their supervisors as recipients.

Last weekend, OPM sent a request for the same information, but the department's Office of Personnel and Readiness told employees to stand down on the request. Now that the department has worked with OPM to get more clear guidance on what is expected, Hegseth said employees can start writing their submissions.

"The Department of Defense initially paused this directive ... but now requires all DOD civilian employees to submit five bullets on their previous week's achievements,"

Hegseth said in his memorandum.

Loose lips: Eric Swalwell discusses Capitol Hill sex parties, Ivanka Trump's looks during lobbyist dinner

When Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) went to the steakhouse at the Four Seasons in Washington, D.C. last Monday night to dine with lobbyists he was a little too loose-lipped, and sadly for him conservative journalist Nick Sortor was seated at the table next to him and heard it all. In fact, Sortor says Swalwell "invaded" his table while he was "inebriated at dinner," and promised a video recap. He did release a summary of what Swalwell said and a video of him confronting Swalwell as the group exited the restaurant.

Eric Swalwell panics when asked about his Chinese spy girlfriend Fang Fang, and whether that’s a bigger “national security threat” than Elon Musk. While having dinner drunk Swalwell was immediately compromised by a group of lobbyists he’d just met, spilling intimate details about his job and asking for help cheating on his wife. Swalwell spent his dinner bragging about “orgies” on Capitol Hill, telling them he’s bored of his wife and “only wants to f*ck tens.”

Worse, he spoke about abusing his power on the House Intel Committee (which he’s since been booted off of), saying he pushed to subpoena Ivanka Trump because she’s “hot as f*ck”…

Why Americans pay so much for health care

Americans spend a lot on health care, more than any peer nation, and the cost is rising faster than nearly every measure of the U.S. economy.

The National Health Expenditure—the total amount paid for health care through public and private means—has risen faster in recent decades than inflation, household income, GDP, the population, and even the price of housing.

Americans collectively spent $4.9 trillion on health care in 2023, six times more than on national defense. No other country spends this much. As a percentage of GDP, the United States spends one-third more than Germany and France and more than double that of China.

Americans are not healthier than people in comparable nations, according to leading health care indices, and they do not live as long.

“We’re wealthy but sick,” Jackson Hammond, a senior policy analyst at Paragon Health Institute, told The Epoch Times.

The American health system is complex, so there are multiple reasons for rising costs. Chief among them is the increasingly poor health of the population, experts say.

The American right needs to cut out the vice-signalling

By Brendan O'Neill

So having voted out the virtue-signallers, now the good people of America must suffer the vice-signallers? Take Steve Bannon’s salute at CPAC. It was a massive troll designed to get the CNN crowd fuming and the ironic fascists of X chuckling. So 77million US voters say a firm No to the eccentric ideologies of the faux-virtuous liberal elite, only to see them replaced by the eccentric antics of vice-flirting conservatives? Great.

It was at the end of his CPAC speech that Bannon – a key intellectual player in the first Trump administration – executed a forceful straight-armed salute. Exactly as he will have anticipated, and no doubt desired, the leftish media went nuts. He’s playing ‘footsie with Nazism’, said CNN host W Kamau Bell. Some on the right weren’t happy, either. Jordan Bardella, leader of France’s far-right National Rally, pulled out of his CPAC spot over Bannon’s ‘gesture referring to Nazi ideology’. Listen, when even the National Rally, a party founded by a literal Holocaust denier, thinks you’re a tad too fascist-adjacent, it’s time for some self-reflection.

There are two possible explanations for his salute: either he’s a Nazi and he wants the world to know or he is so insanely invested in the tragic virtual sport of ‘owning the left’ that he’s even willing to mimic a Sieg Heil to piss these people off. I think it’s the latter. And while that’s definitely better than his being an actual SS fanboy, it still doesn’t bode well for the new America that such digital conservative frivolity has exploded into the real world.

Europe's gas storage reserves have fallen below 40% for the first time in three years

European gas reserves are melting: by now, less than 40% of gas is left in the EU underground storage facilities (UGS) - for the first time in more than 3 years.

At the same time, the February withdrawal was a record for this period in the last 4 years. For example, at the time of completion of last year's gas withdrawal (end of March-2024), 58.44% remained in European UGS. This is reported in the European statistics.

The consumption of blue fuel withdrawal from UGS in Europe is very high - 452 million cubic meters, while injection is 43 million cubic meters. The total volume of stock in European storage facilities is currently 44.3 billion cubic meters of blue fuel.

EU could provide hundreds of billions of euros for Ukraine - La Tribune

Yes, out with the money

A special summit of the European Union on March 6 was able to approve substantial funding for Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron said:

The aim of this meeting is to strengthen support for Ukraine and to give the European Commission a mandate to launch a large-scale and joint as soon as possible, because our security is at stake.

He is confident that there will be unanimity among the 27 EU members, despite opposition from some countries. Macron also emphasized the importance of maintaining US support in the short term.

“We still have the means to make this European strategic leap” - he added.

Earlier it was announced that the United Kingdom will grant Ukraine a loan of 3.2 billion dollars.

Will the EU be able to take on such a financial burden?

Future German chancellor vows to shield Netanyahu from ICC arrest warrant

Germany's likely next chancellor said he would ensure that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu can visit Germany despite an arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“In the event that Netanyahu plans to visit Germany, I have promised myself that we will find a way to ensure that he can visit Germany and leave again without being arrested,”

said conservative Christian Democratic Union party chief Friedrich Merz.

Merz’s pledge defies Germany’s obligations under the ICC’s Rome Statute, sparking criticism from human rights advocates and political opponents.

The ICC accuses Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant of war crimes, including blocking essential supplies to Gaza, exacerbating a humanitarian crisis.

Merz’s stance highlights Germany’s historical responsibility to Israel but raises questions about its commitment to international justice.

Critics warn that shielding Netanyahu undermines international law and Germany’s credibility as a champion of justice.

Governors ask president Trump to let them import foreign workers

Colorado’s Democratic Gov. Jared Polis and Oklahoma’s Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt are asking President Trump to let state governors control a core part of the nation’s immigration policy.

The left-wing Polis insisted that a majority of state governors support the idea of having more say in federal immigration policy, but especially when it comes to issuing work permits. Polis has been among the Democratic governors who have dedicated millions in state funds to illegal aliens. Last December, for instance, Polis extended Medicaid benefits to illegals in certain circumstances.

For his part, Oklahoma Gov. Stitt has previously supported migrants receiving easier access to visas so that they may work in his state.

If governors were allowed to hand out work permits, it could start a race to import more workers for low-wage jobs for each state’s favored business lobbies.
