This is a side of Los Angeles most tourists never see
This isn’t just a homelessness crisis. It’s a public health crisis unfolding on our streets every single day. The longer people go without medical care, the worse these wounds become.
How did it come to this—that scenes like these have become the norm in one of America's wealthiest cities?

Most of us pay a monthly water bill. Others don’t even have access to running water and rely on sources like this just to fill a jug. It’s a reminder that the homelessness crisis is also a basic-needs crisis.

A gay cruise ship was denied entry to ports in Turkey and Egypt
The authorities deemed that allowing the gay cruise ship to dock would violate the moral standards accepted in those countries. One of the cruise participants is disappointed by the bans.
He says, “We wanted the people of Turkey and Egypt to experience for themselves what it’s like to be free and to be true to themselves.”

Dutch intelligence agencies were caught training AI models using data on citizens to which they were not supposed to have access
The CTIVD, the official intelligence oversight body in the Netherlands, published a report stating that AIVD and MIVD personnel accessed massive amounts of data and stored it in ways that violated Dutch law. Names, phone numbers, location data, social media accounts, and the content of communications—millions of records.
Some of this data came from government sources, some was purchased from commercial companies, and some was stolen by criminals and bought on the dark web.
The agencies are training their own AI models using this data. This is not the first such incident. In 2020, the same oversight body discovered that these same agencies had been storing citizens’ data for significantly longer than the time limits set by law. Following complaints, they were ordered to delete this data. Six years later: the same report. The same conclusion. The same agencies. But now with AI involved.
It is reported that the illegally stored data is now being used to train models that will make future surveillance faster, more accurate, and more autonomous.
The organization Bits of Freedom stated outright: “It appears they are buying data from criminals involved in data leaks.”

Maternity Care in Britain Is a Disaster, and the Situation Is Only Getting Worse
▪️In 2015, the British government set a goal of halving maternal mortality by 2025. But in reality, the situation has moved in the opposite direction: the current rate is 20% higher than in 2010, Bloomberg reports
▪️Maternal mortality rates in Britain are the worst in Europe, and the situation is worsening
▪️Systemic problems are the main cause. A report by the UK’s National Health Service highlights crumbling hospital infrastructure, staff shortages, and a toxic corporate culture, including a negligent attitude toward patients

Bulgaria Has Withdrawn from the “Coalition of the Willing” Supporting Ukraine
▪️Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev has withdrawn Bulgaria from the “Coalition of the Willing”—a group of countries supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia— according to Bloomberg
▪️This move distances Bulgaria from most European Union countries that are opposing Russia
▪️“We are not part of a coalition that insists on continuing financial and military aid to Ukraine. The solution to this conflict does not lie in prolonging it through military means, but in a decisive diplomatic mission that will finally put an end to the escalation,” Radev said

Sweden Is Trying to Combat Juvenile Crime (But So Far, It’s Not Working)
The involvement of minors in gangs engaged in contract killings and drug trafficking has reached such alarming levels that Ulf Kristersson’s government has proposed lowering the minimum age of criminal responsibility to 13. However, coercive measures have not helped, so the Stockholm authorities decided to take a different approach.
Specifically, a program for troubled teens was launched at a school called Frishuset, where everyone can find an activity they enjoy—various sports, drawing, playing musical instruments, and so on. According to Alexander Ojanne, deputy mayor of the Swedish capital, this approach provides supervision and a “sense of belonging.”
In addition, the teenagers are paired with mentors who are former troubled teens who left criminal groups on their own. Social services believe that this approach will ensure effective crime prevention measures, unlike prison, where the likelihood of recidivism remains high.

British authorities secretly developed a large-scale machine-learning system to predict crimes and identify vulnerable citizens, but ultimately shut down key algorithms due to catastrophic inaccuracy, according to an investigation by WIRED
The Avon and Somerset Police developed at least 23 predictive models that assessed the risk that a person under observation might commit burglary, fail to appear in court, or, conversely, become a victim of child exploitation. The system relied on the Think Family database, which collected sensitive information on nearly half a million Bristol residents—ranging from housing and mental health data to law enforcement records.
However, an independent audit revealed that most of the models operated with extremely low accuracy: for three years, the algorithm for identifying burglars yielded a result of less than 10%, meaning that out of ten “high-risk” individuals, fewer than one actually broke the law. At the same time, victims of sexual crimes were systematically assigned lower risk scores than those convicted of theft.
When the police limited the input data exclusively to their own records, excluding social factors, the system completely discredited itself: children in need of emergency protection disappeared from the algorithms’ results. Social workers refused to rely on machine-generated assessments, and city officials complained about the complete lack of transparency in the calculations.
By June 2023, Bristol authorities had quietly scaled back models designed to detect the sexual and criminal exploitation of children.
Paradoxically, the failure of this regional experiment coincided with the nationwide expansion of AI in law enforcement. The British government launched the £75 million PoliceAI program to implement algorithms in 43 police forces across England and Wales. The national project is overseen by Andy Marsh—the former chief constable of Avon and Somerset, who once personally lobbied for that very same Bristol predictive analytics system.

Smart TVs are turning into spies on a massive scale, tracking what the owner is watching and eavesdropping on sounds in the room. At the same time, the device itself begins to slow down, unable to handle the increased load
The ACR feature triggers a process in which the TV takes a screenshot every two seconds to analyze the content. These screenshots are cross-referenced against a massive database, and the collected information is sent to the manufacturer to create an advertising profile based on the user’s habits. This process runs continuously in the background, drastically reducing the device’s performance. Turning off just this one toggle in the settings immediately frees up 20% of the processor’s power.
Another blow to speed comes from the constantly active voice assistant. To ensure it doesn’t miss commands like “OK, Google,” the TV continuously listens to and analyzes all sounds in the room. This process overloads the processor, taking resources away from the standard navigation menu.
On top of that, the generation of advertising tokens slows down the system. The device creates a unique household ID and connects to servers in the background to update banners. The TV essentially launches a hidden browser to process this data, consuming data and interfering with the normal operation YouTube. All these features can be turned off in the settings.

Slavery persists in Italy. For decades, the Italian mafia has been recruiting people for seasonal agricultural work and construction, forcing them to work for a pittance or in exchange for food. Workers are housed in makeshift camps and controlled through debt, threats, and isolation
This system has historically been linked to local organized crime groups—the Camorra, the 'Ndrangheta, and the “Sacred Crown of United Italy.” But now, Pakistanis are establishing their own slave-trading network.
Pakistani organized crime operates on the basis of family, clan, and ethno-religious ties. Control begins in Pakistan, where families go into debt with local organized crime groups to obtain visas and tickets to Europe, after which they are forced to work off their debts doing agricultural labor.
The Pakistani mafia’s interests in Italy have expanded beyond the southern fields to encompass logistics, packaging, shipbuilding, and printing in the north. A favorite method is the chain of subcontractors: large Italian companies outsource work to shell companies that evade taxes and violate workers’ rights. These firms are dissolved before inspectors arrive, only to reappear shortly afterward under a new name.
“This is modern-day slavery. The gang leader exercises complete control over the individual; the debtor’s very existence depends on his decisions. The victim has no choice: either agree to exploitation or face fatal consequences,” experts say.
The enormous flow of money generated by migrants and controlled by ethnic organized crime groups explains the interest of authorities and politicians in increasing the influx of cheap labor from third-world countries.

In Finland—the happiest country in the world—the unemployment rate rose sharply to 12.7% in May 2026, the highest level since May 1998.
A year earlier, it stood at just 10.5%. The number of unemployed rose by 68,000, reaching 376,000.
Due to the growing weakness of the private sector, Finland now ranks first in the world in terms of unemployment.

People have stopped having children
In dozens of countries, birth rates have already fallen to levels that were previously expected only during wars and severe crises. In some countries, the fertility rate is about one child per woman—far below the level needed to maintain the population.
The situation is deteriorating particularly rapidly in Japan, where the forecast for a decline in the birth rate over the next 15 years has, in fact, already come true.
Among the possible causes, scientists cite changes in lifestyle, increasing loneliness, and people’s dependence on smartphones and digital entertainment.

AI will not lead to unemployment, but rather to a severe labor shortage.
Jeff Bezos expressed this unexpected view. And he is not alone—this perspective is being voiced more and more often at major conferences.
The main arguments:
🔹The population in developed countries is aging rapidly, and birth rates are low. In 10–20 years, there will physically be fewer workers.
🔹AI will accelerate the economy: companies will produce more goods and services, and new industries will emerge.
🔹 The main shortage will not be capital, but people.
AI will enable businesses to scale so quickly that society simply won’t have time to train the necessary number of specialists.

Europe has still not recovered from the financial and debt crisis
The EU’s share of the global economy has fallen from 30% to 17% in just 17 years. This is roughly the same decline that China experienced during the Qing Dynasty. But it took China about 50 years, while it took Europe 17.
For decades, the EU helped shape the global economy, global institutions, and the rules of the international order. Now, Europe is increasingly adapting to a world shaped by other countries.
