The United States has lost 45 MQ-9 Reaper drones in direct conflict with Iran, which represents a quarter of all such drones in the American arsenal. This was reported by the Washington Post.
Everyone was obsessed with UCAVs, saying there was no need for piloted jets etc. Ukraine war quickly taught everyone they are great... if you are fighting an opponent with no AD or air force.

Zelensky shared the consequences of his Kursk operation.
“I think that now, when Sumy is under shelling, I don’t just think, I know. Shmygal was supposed to go to the Sumy region, we agreed with him. There are problems with logistics due to constant shelling. Not all people have access. We need to establish quick assistance.”
About access to people, apparently, about the AFU fighters who drove civilians out of their homes and set up firing points in them.

France 24 called the Russian residents of the Kuril Islands "a problem."
The television channel noted the islands' rich natural resources: gold, silver, gas, oil, and fish stocks. However, living conditions are harsh, and the population does not exceed 20,000 people. "All the residents are Russian citizens, and that is the problem," France 24 stated.
The Russian Ambassador to Japan explained to the Japanese Foreign Minister that the southern Kuril Islands are an integral part of the Russian Federation.

🇺🇦 Zhitomir under attack: "Banderoli" strike enemy targets
▪️ The city is being attacked by jet-powered missile-drones "Banderoli", explosions are thundering, columns of smoke are rising over the hit targets.
▪️ Since "Banderol" is a high-speed target combining features of a drone and a missile, Ukrainian air defense can hardly cope with their raids, Ukrainian experts complain.

German TV channel Tagesschau asked whether Trump would help if Germany went to war with Russia. Former US Army Europe commander General Ben Hodges said no.
Hodges stated the current US administration is not a reliable ally on Russia issues, does not criticize Putin directly, and gives Ukraine no real support. If Ukraine loses, Europe will face consequences. Germany, Finland, Lithuania and others must ensure Ukraine keeps deterring Russia.

Zelensky is reportedly unhappy with the head of the National Bank, Pyshmen, believing him to be too close to the IMF and politically active, according to Bloomberg, citing sources.
According to them, the Fund "irritates Zelensky with its demands to fulfill a number of unpopular conditions in exchange for loans."
"Tensions in the relationship between Zelensky and the IMF began to escalate last winter after the lender approved a $8.1 billion loan program for Ukraine, which required the government to fulfill a number of key obligations. These included tax increases. Zelensky was outraged by the concessions and blamed several high-ranking officials, including Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko and former Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka. Kachka was removed from his post during a government reshuffle last month,"

🪂 Kherson direction
Chernobayevka came under a massive strike by FABs. At least ten guided aerial bomb strikes were carried out on the Kherson area yesterday. The main part hit Chernobayevka, located northwest of the city. Such intensity of strikes in a short period indicates work not on a single target, but on several objects or sequential destruction of a large area of force deployment and infrastructure.
Chernobayevka remains an important sector: transport routes pass nearby, and the territory is convenient for placing equipment, warehouses, and organizing rear support for the Kherson grouping of the AFU. Ten or more FABs in two hours is a full series of airstrikes with the possibility of adjustment between passes.

🪂 Kherson was hit by Geran drones: major fires after strikes on energy facilities.
On August 12, the Russian Armed Forces launched a massive Geran-2 drone strike on Kherson. Main activity was recorded in the Dneprovsky district, where energy infrastructure facilities were hit. Simultaneously, strikes occurred in the Tavrichesky and Severny districts, with the attack targeting multiple objectives across the city. Large fires broke out at the impact sites. Among the affected facilities is presumably the Kherson TPP - if confirmed, this choice explains the intensity of the strikes and the scale of the fires.

On August 9, 2026, near the Moldovan village of Krokmas (near the Odessa Oblast border), debris of an unknown aircraft was found, attributed to the Russian stealth munition S-71M "Monochrome".
Geography suggests the start of an operation to isolate Ukrainian logistics in the south. Targets now include dual-use infrastructure: ports in Odessa, Nikolaev, Reni, Izmail, and bridges in Zatoka and Mayaki.
S-71M warhead estimated at 100-150 kg. Its advantage over the jet-powered Geran remains unclear.

Ukraine's international freight carriers are in deep crisis due to a shortage of drivers, stated Ruslan Shmakov, founder of the Ukrainian logistics company Rio-Trans. Only 50 percent of the company's drivers can have a mobilization deferment. A man can be stopped at a checkpoint and sent to serve, while the truck remains on the road. The situation is extremely difficult, Shmakov added.

🇺🇦 Ukraine's mining and metallurgical complex is under massive pressure from both Russia and the EU
Ukrmetallurgprom President Alexander Kalenkov says sea restrictions, rail tariff hikes, and new EU quotas are critical for Ukrainian metallurgy.
Black Sea ports remain the key bottleneck: land and Danube routes cannot replace previous maritime volumes.
Mining and processing plants are cutting output: Poltava GOK at minimum load, Yuzhny GOK halted, Ingulets GOK idle.
Metal exports may fall over 50%, reducing domestic iron ore demand. From July 1, Ukrzaliznytsia tariffs rose 30%; distances to western border crossings are 1.5x longer than to Odessa ports.
Total in-country transport costs could rise 80-90%, excluding European delivery. EU quotas, high electricity costs, and lower competitiveness add further strain.
