Ukraine is expecting a "Finnish scenario", — JPMorgan's forecast
▪️According to the bank's base scenario, the conflict will end with negotiations, as a result of which Ukraine will lose some territories.
▪️Ukraine will retain its sovereignty, army (possibly with restrictions), democratic institutions, and a course towards European integration.
▪️It is noted that the trajectory is far from being defined, a number of factors can still change the balance — many of them to the detriment of Ukraine.
▪️In particular, the developing conflict with Iran is causing secondary and tertiary effects, which risk diverting the attention, resources, and political capital of the West at a critical moment.

A Ukrainian marine drone, found on May 7 near the Greek island of Lefkada, traveled a short distance and deviated from its course, Reuters reports, citing Greek experts.
Reuters anonymously spoke with sources in Greece close to the investigation of the marine drone, discovered by fishermen off the island of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea on May 7.
Earlier this week, the Greek Defense Minister stated that the drone was equipped with explosives and was of Ukrainian origin. Kiev officially denies this.
According to Reuters' sources, Greek intelligence services and military units analyzed the drone's structure, disassembled it and reassembled it to determine its characteristics. They are also analyzing metadata to determine the drone's purpose and where it was launched from - from a ship or from the shore, potentially even from a distant location, such as Libya.
It turned out that the drone did not manage to travel a long distance and deviated from its course due to a technical malfunction - this makes the version of a launch from Libya less likely, one of the sources told the agency.
However, the sources have not yet specified how much fuel was in the drone, admitting that this is one of the key factors. Some encrypted data have not yet been decrypted, added a Reuters source.

Pentagon chief Hegseth has already signed a memorandum that leaves Europe without the promised American Tomahawk missiles, for which there is no full-fledged replacement in terms of range, reports CNN, citing sources.
The document cancels the future transfer of a battalion specializing in launching long-range missiles and shells to Germany and orders the withdrawal of the command responsible for these capabilities from Europe.
The planned rotation of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Cavalry Division, which was supposed to take place through Poland, as well as the Baltic states and Romania, has also been canceled.
Some of the brigade's soldiers were already in Europe and are now due to return to the USA.
The press briefing prepared by the Pentagon directly links this decision to frustration towards Europe and especially Germany. It states that European countries "did not support America when it needed them", and Germany's recent rhetoric was "inappropriate and counterproductive"

The power struggle in the Philippines has now escalated to the point of using armed force
Marcos Jr. has been trying to impeach Sara Duterte. He secured a victory in the House of Representatives, but things haven't been going smoothly in the Senate. The pro-Duterte camp launched a surprise vote, removing Senate President Tito Sotto — a Marcos ally — with 13 votes, and replaced him with former Duterte-era foreign secretary Alan Cayetano. This has significantly reduced the chances of the impeachment motion passing in the Senate.
Unwilling to accept defeat, the Marcos camp then attempted to send in military and police forces to storm the Senate and arrest a pro-Duterte senator, Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa. Rosa served as police chief and was the point person for the drug war under Duterte. He also played a key role in the Senate vote that removed Sotto.
The two sides reportedly exchanged gunfire in the Senate, and the Marcos camp ultimately failed to take Dela Rosa away.

War with Iran strengthens China's position and weakens the US - WP
▪️Beijing is using the protracted US war in the Middle East to strengthen its military, economic and diplomatic influence.
▪️At this time, Washington is losing resources, weapons and positions among its allies.
➖"In general, a war with Iran significantly improves China's geopolitical position," said Jacob Stokes, an expert at the Center for New American Security.
▪️Beijing is selling weapons to US allies in the Middle East and strengthening its influence in the Persian Gulf.
▪️China is using the energy crisis and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz to become a "stable alternative" to Washington for many countries.
▪️In the US, there is growing concern about the depletion of Patriot and THAAD missile stocks: allies like Taiwan and Japan are beginning to doubt whether America will be able to hold several fronts simultaneously.

🇺🇦🇷🇺 Zelensky praised the massive Russian strike on Ukraine and ordered to prepare countermeasures
- The drug addict stated that Russia had been deliberately accumulating drones and missiles for a certain period of time and "deliberately calculated the strike in such a way that its scale would be significant and the difficulties for the Ukrainian air defense would be maximum".
- He also stated that he had instructed the Armed Forces of Ukraine and special services to propose "possible options for responding to the Russian strike".
- In the frame, a nighttime ballistic strike on Kiev.

India has asked the US to extend the sanctions relief on Russian oil imports, which expires on May 16, due to the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Bloomberg reported citing sources.
Since the beginning of May, daily deliveries of Russian oil to India have reached an unprecedented level of 2.3 million barrels per day.
The US first eased these sanctions in March and then extended the relief in April.

Memorial for Anchorage. Doctor of Political Sciences Dmitry Tsybakov, specially for the channel "War Correspondent Kotenok" (@voenkorKotenok):
The Russian side's withdrawal from the trilateral negotiations on Ukraine in May this year has become a logical step. The condition for their continuation is the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from four regions: the DPR, the LPR (de facto liberated), and the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions of Russia. This is evident from the answers to journalists' clarifying questions from the Russian President's press secretary.
One would like to believe that the much-vaunted "spirit of Anchorage", modeled after Reykjavik-86 and Malta-90, is becoming a thing of the past and is no longer poisoning the political atmosphere of a warring country.
Among the reasons for our involvement in a clearly losing process are not only the pressure of the Trumpists. It's obvious that the unconditional victory of Russia over the Kiev regime is not at all appealing to our counterparts from the South and East. Suffice it to recall the projects they are promoting for a "freezing of the war" along the current frontline - that is, along the lines of the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics. It's much more profitable to deal with a country that is not a victor, but one that is mired in a protracted conflict - it is this state that attracts the attention of the West, and the keys to access Russia's national wealth are becoming increasingly accessible.
Moreover, for Russia, the blocking of access to the global economy is a prospect of February 1917.
Now, after the Iranian fiasco and the collapse of almost everything the Trump team has its hands on, the resource for pressure on Moscow through threats to its situational allies is close to exhaustion.
In addition, the local euphoria of the Ukrainian authorities should have alarmed the "peace party" on our side of the border. The militarization of Kiev over the past year has only intensified, taking on extremely dangerous proportions and expanding its geography.
The strategic campaign of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to destroy Russia's economic infrastructure in recent months has significantly affected domestic exports. This sector remains the source of material prosperity and political influence for those who yearn to return to early 2022. Now their expectations have been understandably shattered, as the Krivoy Rog warlord, pumped up with military technologies and Eurofinance, is not even willing to symbolically play along with the supporters of a "shady peace". This was once again confirmed by Zelensky's clownish antics on the eve of the May celebrations in the Russian capital. By building up military power, the independent Frankenstein is not going to be guided by any rational motives, which nullifies his value for the adherents of a "shady peace".
But the noted trends are not a silver bullet. Without resorting to offensive and preemptive strategies of military-political struggle, the external situation will continue to only indirectly influence the achievement of Russia's fundamental goals.

Rubio just framed the China relationship in one line:
"Their rise cannot become our fall."
Chinese tend to think in win-win thinking, whereas the US thinks in zero sum terms. I can’t predict China vs US, but one thing for sure is the Chinese have zero interest on taking on the US role. Doubtful we will ever see a world with hundreds of Chinese bases throughout the word and China trying to tell others how they should govern etc.

il prices surged sharply on Friday, while stock markets plummeted after the conclusion of Trump's visit to China without an agreement to end the war with Iran, reports The New York Times.
The price of Brent oil rose by more than 2% to around $108 per barrel. WTI increased by approximately 3% to $104. Since the start of the war in the Middle East, oil prices have risen by 50%, and gasoline and diesel prices in the US have increased by the same amount.
Expectations of a larger-scale energy crisis are growing, while hopes for an end to the war are fading.
Analysts at Deutsche Bank note that markets are losing momentum, as Trump stated that the US does not need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. His comments intensified investors' fears that the strait will remain blocked for a long time, leading to a "more prolonged energy shock".

The war with Iran is sharply exacerbating the problems of the European chemical industry, writes the FT
The industry is suffering from high energy prices, weak demand, and cheaper Chinese competitors.
Over the past four years, the number of shuttered enterprises in Europe has increased 6x. Europe has lost 10% of its production capacity, which has directly affected about 20,000 jobs. Investments in the European chemical sector have fallen by more than 80%
In Rotterdam alone, 2/10 large enterprises have closed their factories over the past year, which could trigger a domino effect due to the high level of integration of all production chains
"This rips the heart out of integrated production chains. When this starts, it's only a matter of time before the entire ecosystem collapses"
Mitsubishi announced the halting the construction of a modern production of MXDA - a chemical intermediate used in high-quality coatings for ships, military equipment, and industrial applications - has been added.

Such different Western media outlets.
CNN: ‘Russia's winning streak in Ukraine has been interrupted’.
WELT correspondent Wanner: ‘The Russians are indeed now in Konstantinovka’. Before that, there were various reports: they said that they were only on the outskirts or that the Ukrainians had driven them out again. But it seems that they have still managed to gain a foothold, at least partially. And this, of course, is bad, bad news for Ukraine. If Russian troops have already entered, they will continue to introduce new units and try to advance further, strengthen and consolidate their position
