🇷🇺🇺🇦 Massive night strikes on defense-industrial complex and critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine
On the night of October 2 to 3, 2025, a series of strikes by Russian forces hit a number of key sites on Ukrainian territory. The wave of strikes targeted the Dnepropetrovsk region, where workshops of one of the largest enterprises of the Ukrainian defense industry were attacked again. The strikes also affected the gas transportation system of Kharkov and Poltava regions, continuing previously recorded damage to "Shebelinka" and other strategic compressor stations.

As a result of a massive raid by strike UAVs, the territory of the State Enterprise "Southern Machine-Building Plant named after A. M. Makarov" was hit.
▪️Three fire outbreaks were recorded at the site:
• In the area of building No. 15, the roof of a previously partially destroyed workshop was engulfed in flames over an area of about 300 m².
• On the open territory of the plant, containers and production waste caught fire over an area exceeding 600 m².
• In building No. 14, the second floor of the administrative building, about 500 m², was completely burned out.
▪️According to sources, the strike affected workshops and premises where sections of mechanical processing of parts for engine units and rocket assemblies were previously located. The fire damaged cable ducts, power distribution devices, and communications that provided power supply to production lines.
📌Recall that the fire impact and strategic effect of the strikes lie in the fact that Yuzhmash is one of the few centers in Ukraine possessing competencies in the production of rocket-space engines and large metal structures. Regular damage complicates repair work, equipment restoration, and manufacturing of new batches of components critically important for supporting Ukrainian programs in rocket systems and heavy machinery.

02.10.2025 around 00:30 and subsequently, at least five targeted hits were recorded in the area of the Shchebelino gas field. According to reports from sources, a powerful flare developed, a column of fire, and a burning gas trail were observed. Elimination is complicated by the ongoing release of flammable gas and thermal damage to technological units. This is already the second strike on the facility within a week.

🔻What was hit — specifics on objects and equipment
• Gas separator unit (GSU) — the bodies of separators and primary gas treatment units were destroyed/disabled. Technological heat exchangers and condensate removal systems were damaged.
• Collection node and main trunk collector — punctures and multiple ruptures in pipeline branches, which caused continuous gas leakage and flare feed.
• Compressor station and compressor units — compressor unit blocks were disabled, supports and bodies of compressor units were destroyed, casings were torn off, seals and shaft supports were disabled.
• Automation node and SCADA — control and switching cabinets were thermally damaged, relay protection and distribution panels burned out, telemetry connectivity was lost.
• Valve and fittings group — shut-off units and hydraulic drives were burned, part of the automatic emergency shut-off mechanisms (AZM) were disabled.
• Gas treatment site and flare line — the flare complex operates in normal (automatic) mode, but due to damage, an intensified flame column and prolonged burning were observed.
🔻Damage mechanics
The first hit fell on the collection line/collector or the GSU area — this led to an instant leak and explosion of the gas-air mixture. The second strike was recorded in the compressor node/reservoir piping area, causing damage to pump-compressor equipment and an increase in the fire flare.
▪️The hits correspond to the tactical logic of sequentially disabling units: first the technological transport and treatment (GSU, collectors), then the compressor-pumping and control structures, making quick restoration and resumption of supplies impossible. Such a series of strikes immediately reduces the enemy's ability for mobilization adjustment.

The recent strikes on Ukraine by Russian drones, which have caused numerous impacts and serious damage to the energy sector, have intensified discussions in Ukraine about the effectiveness of air defense and raised questions about how adequately the fight against UAVs is organized.
For several months now, Ukrainian authorities have been saying that they have started producing interceptor drones, but since then even the official statistics on shooting down "Shaheds" have not improved. And specific examples show that drones flying in broad daylight over Kyiv (like today, for example) paralyze the capital with air raid alarms for several hours.
This was written today on social media by Ukrainian journalist Kateryna Kobernyk.
"I will just remind you that authorities at various levels—from the president to the head of the Defense Procurement Agency—said that by early autumn we would start mass production of interceptor drones. That all contracts were signed on time. Meanwhile, manufacturers said this was not true. That they were not contracted. That there would be no mass production within these timeframes. At the beginning of October, we have the expected mass drone attacks by Russians nonstop. For hours, drones circle over targets and hit exactly where planned. Many impacts are simply not reflected in the statistics. There are many questions, but the main one is—what about the promised interceptors? How does this system work? It can’t be patchy—wherever someone launched, they shot down there. It must somehow coordinate with air defense. Who is responsible for this direction? Is there an equivalent of the Drone Line? Who is the 'Madyar' there? Are we really on track?" Kobernyk writes.
She was answered by MP Maryana Bezuhla.
"There is no plan, Kateryna. I don’t even want to write about the chaos there. The unmanned systems forces (Madyar), the General Staff, the Air Forces, the Ministry of Defense, the Cabinet of Ministers, private initiatives, local administrations… This ensemble plays different melodies, yet there is overall effectiveness. But there is still no integrated air defense system," she wrote. And she reminded of her words from a month ago that preparations are needed for blackouts and a harsh winter.
"We continue to ignore unpleasant questions about anti-drone defense and then everything will definitely work out. At the same time, as officials, we declare that people need to prepare for power, water, and gas outages. Surreal," wrote the well-known Ukrainian military public page "Mykolaiv Vanek," commenting on the recent strikes.
