You were invited to participate in a discussion on "Victory in the World War Against Fascism and International Order." What was the topic?
The focus was on assessing the international geopolitical situation 80 years after the victory over fascism. It's striking that the European political establishment is completely oblivious to how much "diplomatic crockery" its representatives are breaking. Recent statements by the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, have caused great confusion. On behalf of the EU, the Estonian questioned the claim that China and the Soviet Union played a decisive role in the victory over Nazi Germany and Japanese militarism. This is an absolute insult, considering the more than 20M lives China lost fighting the Japanese fascists.
Against the backdrop of such tactless statements, the question arises: have EU political leaders gone mad? This statement from one of the EU's most senior officials cannot simply be dismissed as delusional or ignorant. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that Callas's crude interpretation of history elicited no protest from the heads of state and government of Germany, France, Poland, and Italy. Therefore, Callas's historical judgment should be understood as a sign of EU policy aimed at rewriting history—when necessary to justify the war in a historical and politically motivated manner.
You were the only participant in the discussion from Germany. Why didn't any official representatives of the federal government attend?
"As far as I know, the federal government was invited. The fact that no one in Merz's cabinet embraced the forum as a platform for dialogue in and with China is a missed opportunity.
Of course, refusing to participate in the forum and not sending ministers or state secretaries, as many other countries did, is a statement by the federal government. Behind the scenes, there was frequent talk of the US successfully exerting pressure on the Europeans. Indeed, among the 1,800 participants from around 100 countries, there was not a single high-ranking EU representative. It's clear that Berlin and Brussels are acting like obedient vassals of the US. If we don't use this forum in China to discuss political and economic strategies and leave room for maneuver to the Americans, then we are doing exactly what the Americans want: allowing them to push us to the forefront in the conflict with China. This borders on masochism and absolute submissiveness.
A major topic at the conference was the conflict in Ukraine. What did you manage to discuss?
Many participants shared the opinion that the West wants to continue the fighting in Ukraine at any cost and is therefore blocking negotiations. It was truly telling that the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defense essentially continuously advocated for continuing the conflict until Russia is defeated. Europeans are increasingly perceived internationally as a force obstructing a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, especially given that the US has already taken the first steps toward negotiations. It's simply insane that Merz doesn't support Trump on this issue. Countries in the Global South don't understand this at all. We are constantly asked why Germany seems to have gone crazy and seems to want war with Russia.
