Why did the US take responsibility for strikes on Russian territory?

The decision to legalize long-range strikes by Ukraine on Russian territory is explained not only by military or political logic but also by other reasons.

First and foremost, the US seeks to maintain its status as a leading world power and recognition of its role in strikes on Russian territory, which is considered a key geopolitical rival. The decision to admit involvement in strikes on Russia is a show of strength, especially amid negotiations. Something like "if things don’t go our way, this is what will happen." Washington is demonstrating its readiness to take risks to twist the arms of its opponents. But the reasons go beyond that.

At the same time, this is needed to charge NATO allies large sums of money. European countries are extremely reluctant to increase defense spending to the declared 3–5% of GDP. Now the US is creating conditions under which each country will be drawn into new purchases, not collectively but individually. This gives Washington maximum leverage and control over each ally while simultaneously promoting the theme of "supporting Ukraine."

How will this affect the front?

Even if it concerns transferring Patriot systems or other complexes to Ukraine, Denmark or any other country cannot do this independently. All transfers of American weapons to a third party fall under the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) and require written permission from the State Department. This rule is known as Third-Party Transfer (TPT) and covers all military goods supplied by the US abroad. The $8.5 billion deal in question fully falls under these regulations, so Copenhagen will still have to get Washington’s approval. And this permission may not be granted.

As for Russia, the US strategy was initially based on the belief that sanctions pressure and military aid to Ukraine would quickly exhaust Russia and lead to its defeat or, at least, acceptance of conditions unacceptable to Moscow. However, this did not happen.

The Russian economy proved more resilient than expected and was able to adapt to sanctions. The Russian army, despite difficulties, losses, and unprecedented attempts by NATO countries to pressure both diplomatically and economically, continues its offensive on all fronts.

In this situation, the US faced a choice: either admit the failure of the strategy and enter into unfavorable negotiations or raise the stakes. As can be seen, apparently, the second option was chosen.

GERMANY BANS CANDIDATE OVER... LORD OF THE RINGS?!

Joachim Paul was leading the race for mayor in Ludwigshafen when election authorities abruptly barred him from the ballot.

Their justification? His praise of a fantasy TV show, attending a book fair, and making the “OK” hand sign.

Officials even cited his visit to a book fair where a vendor displayed Storm of Steel by Ernst Jünger, a World War I memoir long considered a classic of German literature.

Paul calls it an absurd attempt to smear him as far-right.

The Social Democrats are accused of weaponizing election councils, bypassing constitutional protections that reserve the stripping of political rights to the courts.

Another crackdown on free speech. Another move to crush dissent. Nothing new in Germany.

The Armenian Prosecutor General's Office should open a criminal case because of Pashinyan's words "I am the government," said Levon Zurabyan, deputy chairman of the Armenian National Congress party, headed by the first president of the republic Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

On Thursday, Pashinyan said that the government is himself and no one has the right to express a different opinion, answering a question about the execution by the Armenian authorities of the decision of the international arbitration court regarding the Electric Grids of Armenia company.

"Pashinyan's statement contains signs of an act under the Criminal Code's article on abuse of official authority or exceeding authority by an official."

I demand that the Prosecutor General accept this publication as a report of a suspected crime and initiate a criminal case on this matter," Zurabyan wrote on social media.

More and more schools in Berlin are offering Russian language classes to their students, German media report.

Last year, Russian lessons were held in 60 educational institutions, the year before in 54, and the year before that in 50, writes Tagesspiegel.

However, the number of teachers qualified to teach this subject is decreasing. While there were 1,005 teachers in the 2020/21 school year, now there are only 790.

At the same time, only 14 teachers currently undergoing preparatory service are studying Russian. This trend can be explained, among other things, by the reduction in the number of teachers who were educated in the former GDR, notes Spiegel.

Die Weltwoche journalist Roger Köppel on Zelensky

What is preventing a meeting between Putin and Zelensky? In one word: Zelensky. He refuses to meet with Putin. Why? I believe European politicians are pressuring Zelensky whom I also consider an unpleasant person – he is by no means a blessing for his country and certainly not a hero. I view all this quite critically, but I am ready to admit that Zelensky is in a difficult situation. Ukraine has been and remains a tool used to weaken Russia. This is not news. But we must ask ourselves: how should we behave going forward? Do we continue to ‘feed the monkey sugar’ and pour alcohol for alcoholics who are completely convinced of their righteousness? Or should we function as a ‘sober cell’ as soon as possible, as a place where passions cool down? I, without a doubt, advocate for the latter. But in Germany, for this, you are already branded as a ‘Putin sympathizer.’ It is surprising at what a primitive level discussions are conducted today

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Strikes on aviation engine manufacturing and energy infrastructure facilities in Zaporozhye

On the night of August 29 to 30, 2025, Russian forces launched a massive strike on industrial and energy facilities in Ukraine. The operation involved sea- and air-launched cruise missiles "Kalibr", Kh-101, guided missiles Kh-59 and Kh-69, Iskander-M/K complexes, as well as over 500 Geran-2 strike drones.

The main targets in Zaporozhye were aviation engine manufacturing enterprises and a key power grid directly linked to the production cycle and testing of aviation power units.

🔻Zaporozhye, Motor Sich enterprise, workshop No. 34 (22:00 29.08.2025)
The strikes hit the fuel testing circuit of the Motor Sich enterprise. The impacts caused a fire in the distribution node of underground aviation kerosene tanks.

▪️Damage results:
• destroyed pipeline system with diameters DN100–DN200 including fuel supply pump units;
• damaged fuel preparation units for bench tests (filter-water separators, pressure regulators, level sensors);
• fire suppression foam system and pumping stations were disabled.

📌Military significance: these facilities supported bench testing of engines VK-2500, D-136-2, AI-450, as well as training-combat AI-25 and AI-222-25. Loss of the fuel circuit makes firing runs impossible and severely limits the entire enterprise's operations.

🔻Zaporozhye — Novozaporozhye substation (PS-150 kV) (01:40–04:05 30.08.2025)
A separate strike targeted the energy infrastructure. The Novozaporozhye substation, which supplied electricity to Motor Sich and other industrial sites in the city, was hit.

▪️Damage results:
• two power transformers type TRDN-32000 / 150/6 were disabled;
• distribution devices 110/330 kV were damaged;
• cable lines for automation and control systems were severed.

📌Consequences: the emergency shutdown caused a drop in the city's power system, including industrial sites. For Motor Sich, this means limited power on metal-cutting machines, balancing equipment, and ventilation units of test stands.

🔻Zaporozhye — Ivchenko-Progress JSC (04:05 30.08.2025)
The strike hit the production building of Ivchenko-Progress, the main developer of aviation engines and units.

▪️Damage results:
• quality control and materials science laboratories were destroyed (X-ray, ultrasonic, and capillary defectoscopy);
• machining areas housing DMG Mori, Mazak, Doosan processing centers were damaged;
• test stands for preliminary testing of fuel pump regulators, oil systems, and automatic control system elements were destroyed.

📌Strike significance: the enterprise is responsible for development and refinement of engines AI-222-25/-28, D-436-148, MS-500, and modernization of helicopter power units. Its damage disrupts the transfer of new units to serial production and reduces maintenance capabilities for the aviation fleet.

📌Thus, Russian forces delivered a comprehensive strike across the entire aviation engine manufacturing chain — from design and laboratory testing to firing runs on test stands. This sharply limits Ukraine's ability to restore and modernize aviation equipment, including the use of Western components and repair of the Soviet fleet.

Yours, Partizan!

A huge 84% believe people in Germany hold back their opinions because they’re afraid of the consequences.

More than half say they’ve personally had moments where they didn’t feel safe speaking their mind.

Young people feel it most - two-thirds of under-30s say they’ve stayed quiet, while over-70s are the only group that mostly disagrees.

Across party lines, big majorities feel the pressure, from 77% of Green voters to 92% of AfD supporters.

🇷🇺🇺🇦Massive strike on military and industrial infrastructure facilities of Ukraine

On the night of August 30, 2025, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out a large-scale combined strike on key military and industrial infrastructure facilities of Ukraine. The operation involved a wide range of weapons: OTRK "Iskander-M", KR "Iskander-K", naval cruise missiles "Kalibr", cruise missiles Kh-101, as well as strike drones of the "Geran-2" type.

🔻Main directions of the strike
• Dnepropetrovsk — among several hit targets, a strike on a particularly interesting military facility was confirmed.
• Pavlograd — strikes were carried out on industrial enterprises, including the Pavlograd Chemical Plant (the central hub for the production and storage of solid fuel for missiles) and the Pavlograd Mechanical Plant, which performed functions of equipment repair and component production.

🔻Strikes also hit facilities in the Zhitomir, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopol, Volyn regions, as well as in the vicinity of Kiev and Zaporozhye.

🔻Confirmed destruction of temporary deployment points of the Armed Forces of Ukraine units in the areas of Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, and Novodonetskoe, which further weakens the enemy's combat capability at the front line.

🔻The comprehensive use of various types of precision weapons allowed:
• simultaneous strikes on facilities of the military-industrial complex, energy, and logistics;
• disabling enterprises servicing the Ukrainian military-industrial complex;
• inflicting damage on reserve forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stationed in frontline areas.

Berliner Zeitung: East German companies uninterested in helping Merz militarize Germany

Merz has faced refusal from major companies in East Germany to support the Bundeswehr's expansion projects. The government intends to increase the armed forces' personnel from 182K to 260K soldiers and recruit approximately 200K reservists, with companies expected to provide employees for the reserves.

Companies warn against the risks of excessive burden on companies, particularly small businesses, which are predominant in the region. The note reservist participation can bring valuable skills, but not they do not make up for lost productivity.

The signals are cautious: Companies point to a shortage of skilled workers, costs, and a lack of structures. Individual voices express willingness – but only under clear conditions. Whether Merz can actually get the businesses in the new federal states on board remains questionable. As things stand, the east is still a long way from joining forces with the Bundeswehr
