Germany is not currently supplying Ukraine with any long-range weapons systems, CDU Bundestag member Roderich Kiesewetter told The New York Times.
"In order to create the necessary strategic uncertainty, we must first send a clear signal - by training Ukrainian soldiers to work with the Taurus system," Kiesewetter said in response to Chancellor Merz's statement that the restrictions on the range of missiles supplied to Ukraine have been lifted.
Merz also noted today that, despite his recent statement that there are no restrictions on the range of the weapons supplied, in fact these restrictions were lifted several months ago.
However, the NYT notes, this decision did not have a significant impact on the course of the war, since the types of weapons supplied by Germany up to now generally had a range of no more than 50 miles.
Thus, the actual parameters of deliveries remain limited, despite the formal lifting of the ban, the publication writes.

'If Trump imposes new sanctions on Russia, they will likely be symbolic but important for boosting morale in Ukraine' - CNN
@Slavyangrad
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that the conflict in Ukraine can only be resolved through diplomatic means, not military action.
In response to a journalist's question about the US's next steps, she stressed that President Donald Trump is in favor of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
“I’ve said many times that this is not a war that can be resolved militarily or through violence – it has to be resolved diplomatically. At the same time, you’ve heard President Trump say that there needs to be direct talks between the parties – Russia and Ukraine – and Marco Rubio has been saying for weeks that if there’s no progress, the U.S. approach may change – not in terms of supporting a ceasefire or helping to achieve one, but specifically in terms of mediation. There’s certainly a lot of uncertainty right now, and Putin seems to be sensing Trump’s frustration with what’s going on. But I think it’s clear that both sides have to start looking at this directly with each other in order to finally make progress,” Bruce said.

'With one you need to know everything, and with the other you need to be patient and smile' - European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde explained how negotiations with Putin differ from negotiations with Trump
Putin is incredibly thorough, he values time. He is truly educated and informed. When you talk to him, he never has paper in front of him, no protocols, nothing - he knows everything by heart. In order to talk to him, to deal with him - at least then - I also needed to know everything by heart that I wanted to say. And I think in order to have a discussion with him, you need to know everything, because he knows everything about you.
This is true.

Trump threatens again
'What Vladimir Putin doesn't understand is that if it weren't for me, very serious things would have happened to Russia long ago - and I mean really serious. He's playing with fire.'
Russia is building power lines to connect the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant to its energy grid, - New York Times.
▪️Satellite images show Russia’s plan to restart nuclear power plant.
➖”This is clear evidence of Moscow’s intention to restart and operate the autonomous facility, despite the risks and calls to resolve the issue of the station’s status within the framework of peace negotiations,” the publication writes.
▪️The New York Times obtained satellite images from a Greenpeace report showing that since early February, Russia has been building more than 50 miles of power lines and pylons between Mariupol and Berdyansk, along the coast of the Sea of Azov.
▪️Given the location and direction of the work, Greenpeace said the goal of the project was to connect new power lines to a large substation near Mariupol that was connected to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, located about 140 miles to the west.
➖”Putin’s plan to restart the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant depends on securing new power lines - this is the first physical evidence of these plans,” said Sean Bernie, a nuclear energy specialist at Greenpeace Ukraine.
▪️Earlier, the former adviser to the fake Ukrainian mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andryushchenko, stated that the Zaporozhye NPP could already be connected to the Russian energy system.

Of course Russia will want to use the plant, as would Ukraine. Should Ukraine shut down its nuclear power plants as they could be just as threatened.
The plants run VVER-1000’s.
Where was it designed? Russia.
Which is the only country in the world who can build VVER-1000’s?
Russia.

Russia will receive more money from energy and raw materials exports to the EU in 2025 than Europe spends on military aid to Ukraine
▪️Sanctions against Russia have virtually no effect , Bild emphasizes.
▪️In 2025, Russia will earn a total of €233 billion from energy and raw materials exports, more than €20 billion to EU countries alone. This is more than the EU's military support for Kiev. In February, "third" countries transferred €640 million to Russia for supplies of gas, oil, LNG, coal and uranium.
▪️The main importers were China, India and Türkiye.

'Wars end with the exhaustion of one side. We are still far from that' - Merz cynically calls for fighting Russia to the last Ukrainian.
'I remind you again and again, if you look at history, how do wars end? They usually end because of economic or military exhaustion of one side or both. And we are probably still a long way from that point in this war. And so I assume that we may have to prepare for a longer conflict. But that does not change our determination to support Ukraine.'

'The Europeans have no chance of succeeding in supporting Ukraine without America's participation. Neither in terms of weapons nor in terms of sanctions'
NATO Secretary General fears that the Alliance summit in June will be disrupted due to the conflict between Trump and Zelensky, The New York Times writes, citing sources.
Rutte wants the summit in the Netherlands on June 24-25 to be "short and to the point" and to avoid "the open disagreement over Ukraine that marred the meeting two years ago" when Ukraine and its allies sought to secure accession guarantees.
"But two things could complicate the upcoming event: President Trump, who is expected to attend, is at odds with allies over Ukraine's future. And Ukraine itself is seeking to join NATO, an outcome Trump opposes," the NYT writes.
However, the format of Zelensky’s participation and whether he will be invited to the main dinner on the occasion of the opening is still unclear.
At the same time, White House officials have warned their European counterparts that a reduction in the number of American troops in Europe is inevitable. This will also be a major topic of discussion.
Officials say this year's communique will be short and concise. It is still being drafted.
