🔆BRO connects strategic Nimmu-Padam-Darcha road in Ladakh

✅This 298-km road will connect Manali to Leh through Darcha and Nimmu on Kargil – Leh Highway.

✅The road is now the third axis apart from Manali-Leh and Srinagar-Leh which connects Ladakh to the hinterland.

✅The Nimmu-Padam-Darcha road derives its strategic importance from the fact that it is not only shorter vis-a-vis the other two axes, but crosses only one pass; Shinkun La (16,558 feet)

🔆ICG Ship Samudra Paheredar arrives at Manila Bay, Philippines

✅Indian Coast Guard ship Samudra Paheredar, a specialized Pollution Control Vessel, arrived at Manila Bay, Philippines on 25 March 2024 on a three-day visit.

✅The visit of specialized Pollution Control Vessels is part of a broader initiative aimed at demonstration of ICG Marine Pollution Response capabilities and shared concern & resolve towards Marine Pollution in the ASEAN region, besides bolstering bilateral cooperation with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

✅ The ICG ship is on an overseas deployment to ASEAN countries namely the Philippines, Vietnam, and Brunei from 25 March to 12 April 2024.

🔆4th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Startup Forum organized in New Delhi

The initiative focused on broadening startup interactions among the SCO Member States, fostering an environment conducive to innovation, promoting job creation, and inspiring young talent to develop innovative solutions.

India will host the second meeting of the SWG in November 2024 and SCO Startup Forum 5.0 in January 2025.

The first Meeting of the SCO Special Working Group on Startups and Innovation (SWG), permanently chaired by India, was organised on the theme ‘Growing from Roots’ in 2023. 25 representatives from the 9 SCO Member States participated in the meeting and presented their respective startup ecosystems and prospective areas of collaboration related to the agriculture and animal husbandry sectors covered in the theme.

Adopt a Heritage 2.0

✅ASI launched the “Adopt a Heritage 2.0” programme in 2023.
✅The programme seeks to foster collaboration with corporate stakeholders through which they can contribute to preservation of the monuments for the next generation.
✅ASI has 3696 monuments under protection, which are spread, throughout the country.
✅The selected stakeholders will develop, provide and maintain amenities in hygiene, accessibility, safety and knowledge categories.
✅The term of the appointment will be for a period of five years initially, which may be further extended up to five years.

✅This initiative builds upon the existing Adopt a Heritage 2.0 programme and underscores the collective responsibility of both public and private entities in safeguarding our heritage for future generations and enhancing end to end experience for visitors.
✅The monuments include Qutub Minar, Purana Qila, Uggar Sain's Baoli, Humanyun’s Tomb, Upper Fort Aguada, Elephanta Caves, Agra Fort, Bhimbetka, Buddhist Stupa, Kailasanatha temple, Group of Temples Khajuraho, Safdarjung Tomb, Group of Monuments, Mamallapuram, Area between Jamali Kamali and Balban’s Tomb Sun temple, Konark.

✅National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR was established in 2007 under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005.
✅The commission’s mandate is to ensure that all laws, policies, programs and administrative systems conform to the vision of the rights of the child as enunciated in the Constitution of India as well as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
✅A child is defined as a person falling in the age group of 0 to 18 years.
✅Functions of NCPCR: NCPCR is constantly broadening the range of activities that can be undertaken such as developing new strategies for better monitoring, developing step-by-step processes to enable the authorities to carry out their duties.

🔆Lokpal of India

✅The Lokpal is the first institution of its kind in independent India,established under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act 2013 to inquire and investigate allegations of corruption against public functionaries who fall within the scope and ambit of the above Act.
✅Organizational Structure: The Lokpal consists of a Chairperson and eight Members out of whom 50% are Judicial Members.
✅The Chairperson and the Members are appointed by the President of India by warrant under his hand and seal and hold office for a term of five years from the date on which they enter upon the office or until they attain the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
✅The salary, allowances and other conditions of services of the Chairperson are the same as that of Chief Justice of India. The salary, allowances and other conditions of services of the Members are the same as that of a Judge of the Supreme Court.
✅Jurisdiction And Functions Of Lokpal : The Lokpal has jurisdiction to inquire into allegations of corruption against anyone who is or has been Prime Minister, or a Minister in the Union government, or a Member of Parliament, as well as officials of the Union Government under Groups A, B, C and D.

🔆IMT Trilateral Exercise

✅INS Tir and INS Sujata will participate in the forthcoming edition of India Mozambique Tanzania (IMT) Tri Lateral (TRILAT) Exercise.

✅It is a joint maritime exercise scheduled from 21-29 Mar 24. As part of the harbour phase scheduled from 21-24 Mar 24, Naval ships Tir and Sujata will engage with the respective Navies at the ports of Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Maputo (Mozambique).

✅The exercise will conclude with a joint debrief scheduled at Nacala (Mozambique).

🔆Decline in Share of Coal Import

✅There has been a reduction in the share of coal import in the total coal consumption in the country. The share of coal import declined to 21% during April 2023 to January 2024, which was 22.48% during the corresponding period of previous year.

✅There has been a reduction in imported coal for blending signifies a shift towards utilizing domestic coal, thus reducing reliance on imports.

✅India primarily imports thermal coal from South Africa and Indonesia, and average prices from these countries decreased by approximately 54% and 38% respectively during April 2023 to January 2024, compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.

THE COMPETITION COMMISSION OF INDIA (SETTLEMENT) REGULATIONS 2024:

✅Settlement Regulations, 2024 were introduced by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to reduce litigation and ensure quicker market correction.
✅These regulations provide a mechanism for enterprises to settle cases during ongoing investigations.
✅The Competition Act, 2002 was amended on April 11, 2023, through the Competition (Amendment) Act, 2023.
✅The Amendment Act introduced Section 48A and 48C in the Act to create a settlement mechanism.
✅They specify the procedure for filing settlement applications and conducting settlement proceedings.
✅The regulations provide for the form and contents of the application for settlement, circumstances in which the settlement applications can be rejected by CCI, and the manner of determining the Settlement Amount, among other things.
✅These regulations aim to streamline the process and make it more efficient for enterprises to navigate inquiries and alleged contraventions under the Act.

✅The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is a statutory body established under the Competition Act, 2002.
✅Its primary objective is to promote fair competition, prevent anticompetitive practices, and ensure a level playing field for businesses.
