🇷🇺🇲🇩🇷🇴🇪🇺 The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stated that "the EU plans to occupy Moldova".

While one may dismiss these claims as "insane ramblings", we need to add some context:

Liberalism says that not just people but also nations have the "right" to pick and choose their own future (right of self-determination). This went at odds with older concepts in politics such as the notion of "empire", "spheres of influence", "protectorates" etc. This notion of self-determination was popularised during the 1848 Revolutions but the old empires of Europe survived even if in some places, revolutionary governments took power, only to be swiftly toppled.

WW1 however put down for good many of the old European empires and gave birth to many new countries. The U.S. under president Woodrow Wilson made it a key peace condition in his Fourteen Points in February 1918. The right of self-determination was supported by Marxists too. Figures like Vladimir Lenin and Lev Trotsky supported this idea because they viewed it as an effective way to "bring forth the revolution".

No one at the time sincerely believed in this right because it never was applied to everyone equally. Wilson and the Entente never allowed the people of the Global South, in the colonies to become independent, and did so only after WW2 when the British and French empires were effectively broke and couldn't hold on to their colonies who were revolting. The same way went in Soviet Russia who, after the death of Lenin and the ostracization of Trotsky by Stalin, started oppressing all ethnicities except the Russians because Stalin thought the Russians to be the least likely to revolt against the Communist Party and also because they were the most numerous.

The right to self-determination always was a means to an end, especially when it was invoked by bigger powers against rivals. Notions like "empire" and "spheres of influence" never left, they just became obstructed from view or were replaced by other terms with slightly different meanings.

Russia looks at the EU countries/governments as a single collective. They see the EU as an extension of the U.S. (and they see the US as a puppet of the UK, their eternal rival). Every nation composing the EU is just "brainwashed" and made to fight against them. The EU and the U.S. are similar and they frankly complement each other. They can't exist without each other. This was seen clearly in the past few months, how Washington and Brussels were at odds in January only to become best friends by the middle of summer.

So when the SVR says the EU "will occupy" Moldova, they aren't wrong. The EU is actively trying to wrestle Moldova away from Russia's sphere of influence. For the past 25 years, there has been an "unseen" war fought between Brussels (and Washington) and Moscow over Eastern Europe and the EU largely won this conflict. Russia managed to keep just Belarus and Serbia close to it. Moldova is the last country in the "greyzone" neither western nor eastern.

The EU doesn't need an army to occupy Moldova, it just needs to turn Moldova into a "Russophobic" country as the Russians would say. The "military buildup" the SVR mentions is obviously fake because it is simply not needed. The EU has a friendly government in Moldova and the only thing they need to do is keep them popular so that they can win elections and the EU is spending a lot of money to keep it that way. No reason to militarily invade it. Russia attacked Ukraine because the EU/US managed to overthrow the pro-Russian president and install a pro-Western one and subsequently banned any pro-Russian politician from running for office.

🇷🇺🤝🇺🇸 Hours before Donald Trump adhered to the maximalist demands of the Ukrainian president, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, expressed Russia's desire to reactivate the New START Treaty which Russia suspended in 2023.

The New START Treaty or the Treaty Between the United States of America and the Russian Federation on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms, shortened often as "reduction of strategic offensive arms" treaty, puts limits on Russian and American deployed nuclear warheads the number of deployed and non-deployed intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launchers, submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) launchers, and heavy bombers equipped for nuclear armaments to 800. The number of deployed ICBMs, SLBMs, and heavy bombers equipped for nuclear armaments is limited to 700.

The New START Treaty entered into force in 2011 and is going to expire in February 2026.

With Trump accepting Ukraine's maximalist demands and adopting the same anti-Russia stance of the EU, Trump has opened the doors to a new arms race between the U.S. and Russia as it is highly unlikely Moscow will ever want to negotiate an extension of the treaty after it expires.

Three days ago, The Atlantic published an article criticising the Undersecretary of Defense, Elbridge Colby, for halting the sale of MIM-104 Patriot interceptor missiles to NATO allies because the U.S' interceptor stocks were just 25% full and simply could not afford to sell even more of them without risking the security of American interests and bases in the U.S. and Asia, security which is already undermined by the lack of interceptor missiles.

📝Trump's pledge to sell "more" weapons is out of touch with reality. He wants to sell weapons he doesn't have right when he's going to make a move on Venezuela and God knows what the Israelis have in plan for Iran, Egypt and Turkey.

As the judge was reading out his verdict, he tried to stab himself with a pencil which led to him being immobilized by U.S. Marshalls.

His charges are: Attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate

Count 2: Possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence

Count 3: Assaulting a federal officer

Count 4: Felon in possession of firearm and ammo

Count 5: Possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number

He faces life in prison.

🇫🇷🇦🇫 An Afghan migrant with numerous sexual offenses is denied deportation, even after he asked to be deported back to Afghanistan, because he does not have an Afghan passport.

The French judge who denied his deportation said the Afghans could not accept him without an Afghan passport.

The migrant's lawyer told the judge he is mentally challenged and that he "does not understand the consequences of being deported" and therefore he must remain in France "for his safety".

The migrant has been in France since 2017, he does not speak French and is homeless. He was sentenced to 6 months in prison for indecent exposure and ordered to pay a 200 euro fine.

Rapid Support Forces, RSF, have withdrawn from over 50km of the Sudan - Central African Republic, CAR, border in the South Darfur direction.

The Wagner Group operating in CAR 'entered' RSF-controlled Darfur region a few days ago, taking control of at least 5 towns, and penetrating up to 35-40km into Sudan. The reason for the operation is still unknown as Wagner withdrew its open support of RSF in 2021 to provide Moscow the opportunity to establish ties with the Iran-backed Sudanese government.

The area of Wagner's operation are also critical to RSF, in that a large volume of military aid flows from UAE cargo planes landing at Birao Air Port, CAR (at 10.23706, 22.71983), and then using route RN8 to enter Sudanese territory. ➡️ Andrew was officially linked with Terrorgram after the Terrorist Designations statement by the DOJ, linked to a July 2024 planned attack on energy facilities in New Jersey

➡️ The case was immediately sealed upon unsealing which indicates open cooperation due to him being of age to have a public case. Furthermore, the enclosing document that explains the agent's involvement in making the arrest.

➡️ This is clear manipulation in using one's position as a journalist, who is supposed to spread truth, to slander and try to invoke the readers reaction, hoping to catch an audience within the far-right to attack Nix due to his false reporting.
