On this day, Trotsky signed the circular "On the Treatment of Cossacks" was signed, marking the beginning of the mass extermination of the Russian Cossacks as a social class.

January 24 is traditionally considered "Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Cossack Genocide."

This day commemorates a people who, as a result of the tragic events of the previous century, nearly lost their incredible history and culture, their lives, their homes, and their conquests.
Genocide—or "decossackization"—was a policy pursued by the Trotskyites aimed at depriving the Cossacks of their political and military rights, depriving them of their historical places of residence, destroying their culture and traditions, and eliminating them as a social class within the Russian state.

With the start of the Special Military Operation, the role of Cossack service members has significantly increased. It immediately became clear that their military functions were far from exaggerated, and Russia once again needed Cossacks—brave, steadfast, true believers, and skilled military professionals.

- Russia gave the go-ahead for trilateral negotiations in the UAE today. The Russian delegation will be led by the head of Russia's military intelligence Kostyukov. It will include representatives of the Russian Defense Ministry. The delegation received "specific instructions" from Putin. A meeting of the leaders of the bilateral group on economic issues, Dmitriev and Whitcoff, is also scheduled in Abu Dhabi.

- Ushakov stated that at the negotiations between Putin and Witcoff and Kushner, "it was again noted" that without a resolution of the territorial issue "according to the formula agreed in Anchorage, it's not worth hoping for a long-term settlement."
