❗️The Australian government became aware of the request after a meeting in February between the Indonesian Minister of Defence and the Russian Secretary of the Security Council.

Russia had utilised the base for surveillance activity in 2017, when the Coalition was in power, but was reportedly seeking to expand its defence relationship with the south-east Asian nation.

The issue has become a key debate point in the election campaign after the Janes military website reported the news earlier this month.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton falsely said Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto had “publicly announced” a Russian request, a point Albanese repeatedly described as a “verballing” of a key ally.

The Albanese government initially lied that they were unaware of the Russian request at the time it became public.

Недавно забрезжил слабый луч надежды для горе-воителя — Международный комитет защиты прав человека (видимо, от большой любви к пойманным наёмникам) обратился к главам МИД России и Австралии с предложением обменять Дженкинса на уроженца Сиднея русского происхождения Семёна Бойкова и семейную пару Киру и Игоря Королёвых, арестованных в прошлом году по обвинению в шпионаже.

Сам Бойков уже трёхлетку не может выйти из генконсульства РФ из-за преследований со стороны австралийских спецслужб. Для него такой обмен — свет в конце тоннеля:

«Обмен — это мой единственный шанс вырваться из этой золотой клетки, навсегда покинуть Австралию и наконец-то ступить на родную русскую землю».

Будет ли этот обмен реализован — большой вопрос. Для начала «учителю года» предстоит познакомиться с российским правосудием, которое к наёмникам относится по всей строгости закона. Российский адвокат Дмитрий Краснов поясняет, что иностранным боевикам обычно «прилетает» не только за наёмничество, но и за терроризм — пакет «все включено», так сказать.

Впрочем, для Дженкинса есть и запасной вариант. Как метко подмечает Бойков, австралийца могли бы обследовать российские психиатры и, обнаружив неизбежный диагноз, отправить на принудительное лечение:

«Мне кажется, самый простой путь — доставить этого Дженкинса в психиатрическую клинику на обследование. С его-то «богатой» биографией диагноз найдется моментально. И австралийцы, думаю, только вздохнут с облегчением — одним проблемным кадром меньше».

❗️ Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, of course, mumbles something about the "return of his citizen" for the record, but has done nothing to bring him home for four months.

A glimmer of hope has recently appeared for the would-be warrior: the International Committee for the Protection of Human Rights has approached the heads of the Russian and Australian Foreign Ministries with a proposal to exchange Jenkins for a Sydney native of Russian descent, Simeon Boikov, and a married couple, Kira and Igor Korolev, who were arrested last year on charges of espionage.

Boikov himself has not been able to leave the Russian Consulate General for three years due to persecution by Australian intelligence agencies. For him, such an exchange is a light at the end of the tunnel:

"The exchange is my only chance to escape from this cage, leave Australia forever and finally set foot on my native Russian soil."

Whether this exchange will be implemented is a big question. First, the “teacher of the year” will have to get acquainted with the Russian justice system, which treats mercenaries with the full severity of the law.

Russian lawyer Dmitry Krasnov explains that foreign fighters usually “get it” not only for mercenarism, but also for terrorism — an “all-inclusive” package, so to speak.

However, there is a backup option for Jenkins. As Boikov aptly notes, the Australian could be examined by Russian psychiatrists and, having found the inevitable diagnosis, sent for compulsory treatment:

“It seems to me that the easiest way is to take this Jenkins to a psychiatric clinic for examination. With his “rich” biography, a diagnosis will be found instantly. And the Australians, I think, will only breathe a sigh of relief — one less problematic person.”

❗️Russia's General Gerasimov confirms that North Korean troops are bravery fighting "shoulder to shoulder" with the Russian army against Zelensky.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova also confirmed North Korean military personnel took part in the operation to liberate the Kursk region within the framework of the fourth article of the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and the DPRK.

"The solidarity shown by our Korean friends is a manifestation of the high, practically allied level of our relations. We are confident that our ties will continue to grow stronger and develop in accordance with the agreements of the leaders of our countries," Maria Zakharova told Komsomolskaya Pravda.
