* הגמרא מפרטת את העבירות שעשו רבי חנינא בן תרדיון, אשתו, ובתו.
* אלו שאין להם חלק לעולם הבא: האומר אין תורה מן השמים ואין תחיית המתים מן התורה, אבא שאול אומר: אף ההוגה את השם באותיותיו.
* כל מי שיש בידו למחות ואינו מוחה - נענש עליו.
* עוונות שאדם דש בעקביו בעולם הזה - מסובין לו ליום הדין.
* הגמרא מספרת בהרחבה על האופן בו הרגו גדולי רומי את רבי חנינא בן תרדיון (כעונש על כך שהיה יושב ועוסק בתורה ומקהיל קהילות ברבים וספר תורה מונח לו בחיקו).
* ברוריא (אשתו של רבי מאיר) היתה בתו של רבי חנינא בן תרדיון.
* רבי מאיר אמר לשומר (ששמר על אחות אשתו בקובה של זונות) שיאמר "אלהא דמאיר ענני" כשיצטרך להינצל.
דף יח עמוד ב
* רבי מאיר ברח לבבל, והגמרא מביאה שתי דעות מה היתה הסיבה לכך.
* אין הולכין לאיצטדינין מפני מושב לצים, ורבי נתן מתיר מפני שני דברים אחד מפני שצווח ומציל ואחד מפני שמעיד עדות אשה להשיאה.
* כל המתלוצץ - יסורין באין עליו / מזונותיו מתמעטין / נופל בגיהנם / גורם כלייה לעולם.
* כל המתייהר - נופל בגיהנם.
* לאורך העמוד הגמרא מביאה ארבע דרשות על הפסוק "אַשְׁרֵי הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר לֹא הָלַךְ בַּעֲצַת רְשָׁעִים".

דף יט עמוד א
* הגמרא דורשת בעמוד זה ובתחילת העמוד הבא, בין היתר, את הפסוקים הראשונים שבספר תהילים.
* "אַשְׁרֵי אִישׁ יָרֵא אֶת ה'" - (1) אשרי מי שעושה תשובה כשהוא איש. (2) אשרי מי שמתגבר על יצרו כאיש.
* "בְּמִצְוֺתָיו חָפֵץ מְאֹד" - במצותיו ולא בשכר מצותיו.
* "כִּי אִם בְּתוֹרַת ה' חֶפְצוֹ" - (1) אין אדם לומד תורה אלא ממקום שלבו חפץ. (2) כל העוסק בתורה הקב"ה עושה לו חפציו.
* לעולם ילמד אדם תורה ואחר כך יהגה.
* "לעולם ליגריס איניש ואע"ג דמשכח ואע"ג דלא ידע מאי קאמר".
* כל הלומד תורה מרב אחד - אינו רואה סימן ברכה לעולם ("והני מילי סברא, אבל גמרא מרב אחד עדיף").
דף יט עמוד ב
* לעולם ישלש אדם את הימים במהלך שנותיו שליש במקרא שליש במשנה שליש בתלמוד.
* "כִּי רַבִּים חֲלָלִים הִפִּילָה" - זה תלמיד שלא הגיע להוראה ומורה (אא"כ אין בעירו גדול ממנו), "וַעֲצֻמִים כָּל הֲרֻגֶיהָ" - זה תלמיד שהגיע להוראה (רש"י: ארבעים שנה לאחר שנולד) ואינו מורה.
* "וְעָלֵהוּ לֹא יִבּוֹל" - אפילו שיחת חולין של ת"ח צריכה תלמוד.
* דבר זה כתוב בתורה ושנוי בנביאים ומשולש בכתובים: כל העוסק בתורה נכסיו/דרכיו מצליחין לו.
* הגמרא דנה בביאור דברי רבי יוחנן שאמר "אם בנה שכרו מותר".
