⚡️🇩🇪 Financial Times: Berlin has endorsed President Trump’s call for NATO members to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP.

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul confirmed the move at a NATO meeting in Turkey, aligning with a proposed split of 3.5% for core military spending and 1.5% for infrastructure and cybersecurity .

Chancellor Friedrich Merz has amended Germany’s constitution to exempt defense spending above 1% of GDP from borrowing limits, enabling a €500 billion fund for military and infrastructure modernization .

This shift aims to reduce reliance on U.S. protection and strengthen NATO’s collective defense.

⚡🇺🇦🇷🇺 In recent weeks, the pace of advances of Russian forces between Pokrovsk and Toretsk has increased. Let's look at it at 3 different scales.

The push was launched from the Ocheretyne sector, it was the most successful on the west flank. The Ukrainians in the 200km² pocket are in a difficult position the river running north limits their logistics and the few roads are under fire. The defense will likely collaspe, how much time it will take remains to be seen.

This is a blow to the defense of Konstiantynivka, the city has until now been a logistic hub, and was used to support the battles of Chasiv Yar on its left flank and the battle of Toretsk on its center. The Russians are advancing now from the south. If the defense fails, this will only increase the pressure of Konstiantynivka which will become disputed.

On a larger scale, the fall of Konstiantynivka would remove a salient and allow further advances towards Sloviansk and Kramatorsk but also towards Toretsk which will be threatened from the south and the east.
