🐹 Hamster-related Words and Expressions 🐹

Today, we're diving into the adorable world of hamsters and exploring some fun and quirky words and expressions related to these cute little critters. Get ready to expand your vocabulary and impress your friends with your hamster-themed linguistic prowess! 🙌

1. 🌰 "Hoard" — just like hamsters love to store food in their cheeks, you can "hoard" things by collecting and storing them in large quantities.

2. 🏃‍♂️ "Hamster wheel" — this expression describes a situation where you feel like you're putting in a lot of effort but not making any progress, much like a hamster running on its wheel.

3. 🥜 "Squirrel away" — although this phrase refers to squirrels, it's similar to how hamsters hide their food. It means to save or store something, usually money or resources, for future use.

4. 🍽 "Hamster cheeks" — when someone has chubby or puffy cheeks, they might be described as having "hamster cheeks".

5. 🌙 "Nocturnal" — hamsters are active during the night, making them nocturnal animals. This word can describe any creature or person more active at night.

By the way, if you've missed the opportunity to join the most famous game about hamsters — Hamster Kombat — it's high time you did. Here is the link to join the game.

COLLINS WORD OF THE YEAR

‘Single-use’
, a term that describes items whose unchecked proliferation are blamed for damaging the environment and affecting the food chain, has been named Collins’ Word of the Year 2018.

Single-use refers to products – often plastic – that are ‘made to be used once only’ before disposal. Images of plastic adrift in the most distant oceans, such as straws, bottles, and bags have led to a global campaign to reduce their use.

The word has seen a four-fold increase since 2013, with news stories and images such as those seen in the BBC’s Blue Planet II steeply raising public awareness of the issue.

Hey, guys!

We are back in the game, the chat problems will be solved today or even right now. Let's take a look at a peculiar site that we stumbled today: http://archive.gameswithwords.org/WhichEnglish/

Yielding a floor to the site creators:

By taking this quiz, you will be helping train a machine algorithm that is mapping out the differences in English grammar around the world, both in traditionally English-speaking countries and also in countries like Mexico, China, and India.

In the end, you can see our algorithm's best guess as to which English you speak as well as whether your first (native) language is English or something else.

Don't hesitate, try it right now and share your results in the @violachat!

Even though it's more popular in Australia than in other countries, the idiom is still pretty interesting:
— adjective (sometimes hyphenated): very busy; preoccupied with many different things at once.
«Sorry I couldn't make it to lunch today, I've been flat chat with the kids all day.»
— adverb (sometimes hyphenated): at the greatest possible speed, efficiency, or power.
«The whole team is working flat-chat to get this project finished and perfect.»

«I love chatting up tourists visiting our city, it gives you such diverse and interesting perspectives!»

However, you should be careful as there is also another meaning:
To engage in flirtatious conversation with someone, usually in pursuit of romantic or sexual purposes.
«I was chatting up this cute guy at the bar last night and managed to get his phone number! I hate when people chat me up in bars. I just want to have a nice time out with my friends!»

Hey, guys!

Our channel remained silent for a while. The reason for this nonsense is that we were preparing some major changes here. The announcement is coming, yet here is the beginning.

Let's begin with our chat — @violachat. Yep, we do have a chat with somewhat 600 thousand messages sent that is featured by Combot as one of the most active Telegram chats in English.

We are proud of the chat but we need to advance. We need topics for conversations, we need moderators and mentors. If you ever wanted to become an admin in our chat — don't hesitate to write @tonyprots with a #ViolaAdmin tag.

We expect a brief story from each of the candidates: who are you, what is your experience of studying English, why on Earth you started learning it and still carry on, what exams have you passed and finally, why on Earth you wish to become an admin.

We expect you to be a patient, outgoing and responsible person. We expect it to be a lot of fun.

Join @violachat and stay hungry, updates are coming.
