Backups Are Boring - Until You Lose Everything 🧠

If you’re too lazy to write down your seed phrase, that’s fine. But do something. At the very least use the encrypted cloud backup built into Unstoppable.

We’re sharing this because over the last few months, we’ve seen some painful cases:

1. The Poet’s BTC - 1.5 BTC Gone

A creative user turned their seed phrase into a poem. He couldn’t reconstruct the poem back into exact words. We tried. Ran 12,000+ wallet combinations. No luck.

That BTC nearly 1.5 coins remains locked. Don’t try to outsmart the system. Just back it up properl

2. The Disappearing ZEC

Another user lost access after a major SDK + Zcash upgrade. Their seed was valid, but opened different addresses. This is purely a technical bug

We’re debugging this these very days, but it hinges on one thing: user should provide just one address that held funds.

3. The Missing Screenshot

This week, a user backed up their seed with a screenshot on another phone which they then lost.

Later, the Unstoppable app started crashing after an update.

Now they’re stuck: no backup, can’t access the wallet. Reinstalling may erase everything. We’re doing our best, but options are limited

Moral of the story?

Back. It. Up.

You can use paper. You can use the cloud.
But if you’re using the cloud, use encrypted backup inside Unstoppable and pick a password you’ll remember under pressure.

Do not screenshot your seed.
Do not make it “fun.”
Do not assume you’ll “get to it later. Because when things go wrong, later may never come.

How Hackers (and everyone else) Wash Funds (reclaim privacy) using Tornado Cash 🌀

Ethereum isn’t private. Every transaction, every balance all out in the open.

But thanks to Ethereum’s smart contract powers, there’s a way to break the trail. You can move funds from one wallet to another without anyone knowing where it went.

Enter Tornado Cash! It's a decentralized mixer that severs the link between deposit and withdrawal. No middlemen. No KYC. Just code.

It’s a tool for anyone who needs privacy (which is increasingly everyone), especially with how much USDT is flying around these days.

Of course, it also gets abused by hackers looking to cover their tracks.

Let’s break down how it works in simple terms: 🧵👇

1) Step 1: Deposit

- Pick a fixed amount (like 1 ETH)
- Generate a secret note (your private proof)
- A cryptographic hash (aka “commitment”) is created

Your secret note remains private. The commitment gets recorded on-chain. Your deposited ETH joins a shared pool with other users.

2) Step 2: Wait

The bigger the pool, the better. It’s called the anonymity set. The more people using it, the harder it is to trace funds.

3) Step 3: Withdraw

Use your secret note to create a so called "zero-knowledge proof".

This proof allows you to prove you’re entitled to funds without revealing who you are. The smart contract verifies it, then sends funds to your new address.

Your secret note is never published and stays on your device. Only the zero-knowledge proof hits the blockchain.

4) What’s visible on the blockchain?

✅ The commitment hash
✅ The zero-knowledge proof
✅ The withdrawal address
❌ Your identity
❌ Your secret
❌ Any connection between the deposit and withdrawal wallets

That's all there is. Tornado Cash is still one of the most powerful privacy tools on Ethereum.

But a heads-up:
Tornado Cash was sanctioned in 2022. Sanctions were lifted in 2025. However, it's still being watched and often flagged by "compliance" entities like crypto exchanges.

Should you decide to experiment with it setup a separate wallet for it.

How To Safely Use Crypto While Traveling Worldwide? 🌍

One of our users is heading to Colombia & asked how to stay private + safe while living on crypto.

Here’s our take:

1️⃣ Use Unstoppable + Duress Mode

- Keep main stash hidden. If there is a lot it may be even better to keep it totally inaccessible.

- Setup a daily wallet with only what you need. Maybe a wallet that would be enough to cover 2-3 months of expenses.

2️⃣ Start with crypto Visa/MasterCard top-up cards (not ideal, but easy). There are plenty of those around. Those usually charge a few % for recharge.

3️⃣ Once local in Columbia: use P2P exchanges (Binance/OKX) to swap crypto into local cash via popular apps (i.e. Cash app in US etc)

4️⃣ Stay silent. Never advertise you hold crypto. Ever!

5️⃣ Large cashouts? Only via trusted local OTC desks - high risk if you’re not fully aware of the dangers.

Unpopular Take: Hardware Wallets Are Overrated 🔥

“Specialized devices are safer!” - that’s the sales pitch.

Self-custody isn’t just “can someone hack my chip?” It’s: “can I survive real-world attacks?” Mobile wallets aren’t catching up. They’ve passed!

Here’s the reality:

1️⃣ Privacy trap

Buying hardware wallet leaks your identity. Vendors have already exposed customer lists - name, address, holdings. Congrats, you’re on a phishing (or robbery) target list. 🎯

2️⃣ Travel risk

Hardware wallets scream “I own crypto” at airports & borders. Good luck staying discreet. 🧳🚩

3️⃣ The paper backup paradox

Every hardware wallet needs a paper backup. Lose the paper - lose your funds.

And you’re still stuck storing the most sensitive data in the most fragile form possible. Mobile wallets can generate encrypted backups - far safer IF you know how to handle them properly.

🕵️‍♂️ Monero Is Finally Coming to Unstoppable

It’s been long overdue. But it’s almost here.

In our next wallet update, Unstoppable will offer native support for Monero.

Here is why it took a while:

Until now, Monero integration into mobile wallets meant jumping through hoops - using bulky C++ wrappers or Flutter-specific hacks.

There were no Swift or Kotlin libraries. No clean SDKs for mobile devs. Just pain.

So we're building what was missing.

We're launching the first Monero SDKs for iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) - built on top of the secure monero_c core. This means native mobile apps can finally integrate Monero cleanly and safely without reinventing the wheel.

🚫 The Myth of the 100 % Private Wallet

There’s no such thing as a “100 % private” wallet. Even with privacy coins baked in, the weak links are everywhere. Does't matter whether it's Monero or Zcash.

Here’s where most wallets leak and how better tools (yes, like Unstoppable) attempt to patch the holes. 👇

1️⃣ Coin Balance Sync

Your wallet isn’t a full node; for each coin it shows it has to ask someone for your transactions and then figure out balance.

- Easy, non-private way: send your addresses to a server and get back “your” transactions. As a result the server now knows your balance, transactions history and IP address.

- Hard, privacy-first way: download only what’s needed, hide which addresses are yours. Few wallets bother as this approach is both expensive and difficult. Needs to be implemented for each blockchain separately.

2️⃣ Multi-Coin Balance Sync

Instant balance view for all coins? Nice on the UI but it usually means every coin syncs through the wallet provider’s servers.

Result: a wallet provider can map your entire multi-chain balance.

A privacy-minded wallet uses each coin’s native private sync when possible; coins that can’t stay private query public RPCs so the wallet provider never sees the full picture.

Bottom line: If a wallet promises “privacy” yet still runs its own sync, price, and history servers, it’s selling you comfort, not confidentiality.

Want the hard way done right? Choose wallets that:

- Minimize address exposure during sync

- Outsource price data to neutral feeds

- Provide private sync option when possible

- Allow users choosing between various RPC endpoints
