The US is preparing to back down and reduce tariffs on China. Trump told reporters that the 145% tariffs will be reduced “substantially,” despite China not announcing any reduction in its retaliatory tariffs on US goods.
Trump’s remarks come a day after China responded. The Chinese government threatened retaliatory measures against any country that signs trade deals with the US that exclude China
China’s Ministry of Commerce released a statement saying: “Appeasement will not bring peace, and compromise will not be respected (...) To seek one’s own temporary selfish interests at the expense of others is to seek the skin of a tiger.”

Israel burned to death Palestinians sheltering in a school in Gaza City. While people were sleeping, the Israeli army launched a brutal attack on the Yaffa School, killing at least 10 and injuring many more. The school was sheltering over 1,500 displaced people.
The death toll in Gaza continues to rise daily, with at least 39 Palestinians killed in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, Gaza’s health system is on the brink of collapse—crippled by the deliberate targeting of hospitals and a relentless Israeli blockade on humanitarian aid.
A severe shortage of essential medical supplies has made it nearly impossible to treat the growing number of wounded and sick. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, over 400 dialysis patients have died due to the lack of life-saving treatment since the war began.

As the world remembers Pope Francis, we recall the moment Bolivia’s President Evo Morales gifted him a Communist crucifix in 2015 — a gesture that left the pope visibly surprised.
The hammer-and-sickle–styled crucifix was actually a replica of one created by the renowned Jesuit priest Luis Espinal, who was murdered by Bolivia’s US-backed military dictatorship in 1980. Espinal was targeted for his outspoken support for workers’ movements and his role in promoting Liberation Theology.
At the time, the Catholic Church remained silent on Espinal’s murder. In Bolivia, Church leaders had aligned themselves with the dictatorship and had long opposed Espinal for his role in the Liberation Theology movement. The Vatican later crushed that same movement.
Pope Francis, himself a Jesuit, was head of the Jesuit order in neighboring Argentina around this period. Yet he, too, failed to speak out or demand justice for Espinal.

“Women disappear, and we know nothing about them.” – Listen to testimonies from Syria revealing the ongoing sectarian violence faced by the Alawite minority.
Multiple investigations report a disturbing rise in the abductions of Syrian women and girls, particularly in coastal regions. These cases involve torture, beatings, and prolonged captivity, with some women reportedly trafficked outside the country.
The wave of abductions follows a military operation led by HTS-affiliated armed groups that killed at least 2,000 people. Brutal attacks, pogroms, mass graves, and massacres targeting minorities have been documented.
Amnesty International has called for the mass killings of Alawite civilians in Syria to be investigated as war crimes. While Ahmad al-Sharaa has announced the formation of an investigative committee, reports of ongoing atrocities persist.
No government source has acknowledged the surge in abductions, and families and survivors remain silent, fearing retaliation from the perpetrators.
US ambassador to Israel justifies the use of starvation in besieged Gaza.
For over 50 days, Israel has enforced a complete blockade on humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip. “Not a single truck carrying food, fuel, medicine, or any other essentials has been allowed in,” according to the UN.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is catastrophic, reaching its most critical point since the war began. In March, the Israeli Supreme Court formally upheld Israel’s ongoing blockade of the Gaza Strip, endangering the lives of nearly two million people.
During its assault on Gaza, Israel has bombed food warehouses, targeted farmers, struck those involved in cooking and distributing food, and even attacked civilians waiting in line for food aid. In addition to violating international human rights conventions, Israel is also defying the International Court of Justice (ICJ) orders in the ongoing genocide case. Despite this, Israel was granted a six-month extension by the ICJ to file its defense.
Vietnam is going all-out for the 50th anniversary of national reunification. Ho Chi Minh City is covered with hammers and sickles and posters of the Liberation Army of South Vietnam, also known as the Viet Cong.
Vietnamese Reunification Day is a milestone in the country’s history of national liberation. The country was divided into two as part of the anti-colonial war against France and the subsequent US occupation of the south.
April 30 marks the day the communist troops took over the capital formerly known as Saigon in 1975. This marked the end of the 30-year fight for independence.
This year, over 13,000 people are expected at the massive military parade in Ho Chi Minh City. The government has mobilized 5,400 soldiers for the occasion.

🟡 NEW: Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) leaders arrested in Syria.
For the first time, two PIJ members have been arrested by HTS authorities in Syria. Khaled Khaled, the leader of PIJ in Syria, and Abu Ali Yasser, head of the PIJ organizational committee in Syria, were arrested on Sunday. According to governmental sources, the PIJ leaders have been accused of “collusion with Iran.”
Ahmad al-Sharaa, self-proclaimed president of Syria and former Al Qaeda member, has been involved in the Israeli-backed strategy to dismantle Palestinian resistance movements. Since December, the HTS-led administration has pressured Palestinian factions to disarm and relinquish their weapons, training camps, and military headquarters. Al-Sharaa has also warned that Syria must not serve as a base for attacks on Israel.
PIJ has faced repeated Israeli strikes on its Damascus headquarters. The arrests follow the Palestinian Authority leader's visit to Syria and US conditions to ease sanctions, including “countering terrorism.”
Protests erupted in Morocco to prevent the docking of ships supplying weapons to Israel.
Clashes with police erupted after demonstrations in Tangier aimed at preventing the arrival of two cargo ships owned by MAERSK. The company is among the targets of a global boycott campaign against firms complicit in supplying and sustaining the genocide in Gaza.
People took to the streets in Tangier and Casablanca to protest the Moroccan government's complicity with Israel. Since signing the Abraham Accords in 2020, Morocco has deepened its ties with Israel. African Lion 2025—the largest US-led military drill in Africa—is currently underway and will be hosted across Morocco, Tunisia, Ghana, and Senegal. The exercise includes the participation of Tunisia, Morocco, Qatar, Israel, and others.

Venezuelans burned effigies of US’ Marco Rubio and Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele during the “Burn the Judas” Easter tradition. They are calling for the return of Venezuelan migrants who were renditioned to El Salvador and accused of gang ties without evidence.
So far, over 230 Venezuelan nationals have been sent to the notorious CECOT prison, where gang members serve life sentences. Bukele himself has posted videos showing the migrants being beaten and abused by prison guards.

Protests erupted in Quezon City, demanding the withdrawal of foreign troops as the US military kicked off joint war games with the Philippine Armed Forces. The annual “Balikatan” exercises will include a “full battle test” with over 14,000 Filipino and American soldiers.
The war games come amid rising tensions between China and the US, starting in the South China Sea, where coast guard confrontations between China and the Philippines have increased over the past two years.
BAYAN, a leading organizer of the protests, criticized the Balikatan drills as a move “to advance US geopolitical interests.” During a recent visit to Manila, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared that Washington would “double down” on its alliance with Manila in response to “threats from the Communist Chinese.”

🟡 BREAKING: Israel is bombing Lebanon.
Several Israeli airstrikes have targeted the city of Arnoun in South Lebanon. Israel, once again, is violating the ceasefire signed on November 27, 2024. A recent statistic published by the Lebanese Ministry of Information stated that Israeli violations of the ceasefire exceed 2,740, with at least 191 people killed.
Israel has been violating the Lebanon ceasefire through repeated airstrikes, shelling, intensified drone activity, civilian casualties, and the continued occupation of Lebanese territory. Israel's Defense Minister Katz recently defined the occupation as “indefinite,” signaling that such violations will persist.

New disturbing images reveal Libya’s human trafficking trade. Human rights abuses and slave markets are fueled by EU funding and rooted in the chaos following the NATO invasion.
Following NATO’s catastrophic invasion of Libya in 2011, the country was left destabilized and devastated. What followed was the near-total destruction of the state, open-air slave markets, and relentless chaos. NATO-backed militias initiated slave markets where Black Libyans and African migrants were imprisoned and tortured.
A recently released report documented a 30% drop in irregular crossings into Europe. Human rights groups attribute this decrease to the EU's agreements with countries such as Libya, Tunisia, Türkiye, and Egypt on migration and border control. These deals are part of the EU’s broader strategy to externalize and militarize its borders by framing migration as a security threat.

🟡 NEW: The Israeli army is installing iron gates at the entrance to the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank, a measure not seen since the Second Intifada. The gates intensify movement restrictions, further denying the inhabitants their right to return to their homes and property.
For more than 90 days, the Jenin camp has been under Israel's "Iron Wall" military operation. The offensive has destroyed around 500 homes and vital infrastructure, including schools and healthcare centers. Over 20,000 people have been forcibly displaced. In January, Israeli Defense Minister Katz announced the army’s permanent presence in the camp.

Emmanuel Macron has launched a new militarized crackdown on migrants in Mayotte — a French colony in the Indian Ocean. The operation expands a system of surveillance, detention, and expulsions across the island. Branded “Iron Wall,” the plan includes naval radars, boosted police units, and a new detention zone to stop arrivals from the Comoros and mainland Africa.
The government plans to carry out 35,000 deportations per year — 10,000 more than the current level.
Mayotte, a French-occupied island in the Indian Ocean, is still reeling from Cyclone Chido. Public infrastructure is failing: water is cut for days, classrooms operate in shifts, and food prices have surged. Yet the state is prioritizing military build-up over reconstruction.
Macron’s plan shares its name with Israel’s “Iron Wall” and echoes a similar logic: enforce separation, treat entire populations as threats, and deploy military force to isolate and repress racialized communities.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is catastrophic, having reached its most critical point since the war began. In march, the Israeli Supreme Court has explicitly and directly legitimized Israel’s illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip, putting on risk the lives of nearly two million people.
During its war on Gaza, Israel has bombed food warehouses, targeted farmers and those involved in cooking and distributing food, and even attacked people waiting in line for food assistance. 🟡 NEW: Türkiye has imposed a ban on elective C-sections at private healthcare facilities. New regulations have targeted women’s rights amid a national debate on childbirth.
The Health Ministry has been promoting a campaign for natural birth. During a Süper Lig match last week, male football players carried a banner reading, “Natural birth is natural. C-section is not healthy unless it's medically mandatory.” The match exposed male-dominated spaces policing women’s bodies.
President Erdoğan described Türkiye’s declining fertility rate as “a threat far more significant than war.” The targeting of women's rights has sparked widespread criticism, aligning with what critics in Türkiye describe as a politically Islamist and conservative agenda.
Rights advocates argue that decisions about women’s bodies should not be used for political purposes. Türkiye’s 2021 withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention endangered women’s rights. The new ban may violate both the Turkish Constitution and the CEDAW agreement.
Pope Francis I has died, leaving behind a complex legacy — from his collaboration with US-backed military dictatorships in Argentina to his later condemnation of capitalism and war.

“No matter how much Trump bombs, we are with Gaza.” The US has bombed several locations in Yemen, resulting in over 42 casualties.
The death toll is expected to rise as rescue teams continue searching through the rubble of residential areas hit by the strikes. US forces targeted a market where numerous burned bodies were recovered, including children.
The US-led aggression on Yemen has killed over 200 people since mid-March. Yemeni armed forces have reaffirmed their support for Gaza. In addition to maintaining a naval blockade in the Red Sea, they’ve downed 21 US drones—each valued at $30 million—targeted US aircraft and launched drones and missiles at Israel.
Despite its high cost, the US operation in Yemen seems to have a limited impact on Ansarallah’s military capabilities. Some analysts argue that the indiscriminate targeting of civilian areas shows a failure to penetrate the Yemeni forces, highlighting a lack of access to critical intelligence—unlike in Lebanon and Palestine.

Kerala, governed by India’s only communist-led administration, is on course to become the first state in the country to eradicate extreme poverty. In April, Dharmadam—a town in northern Kerala—was officially declared free of extreme poverty. The announcement is part of a targeted campaign launched, which identified 64,006 families facing severe deprivation based on four indicators: food insecurity, lack of income, poor housing and unmet health needs. As of April, 50,401 families—nearly 80 percent—have been removed from the extreme poverty list.
More than 3,100 houses have been built, 4,000 renovated, and 4,300 families supported with stable sources of income. An additional 14.3 acres of land have been identified for distribution to landless households. Officials say the remaining families, mostly those lacking housing or income, will be included in the final phase. The state has set November 1, 2025 as the deadline for complete eradication, which would make Kerala the first in India to reach this milestone.
On this day in 1960, mass protests erupted in the Republic of Korea (ROK). Koreans rose up against the oppressive rule of US-backed President Syngman Rhee, who governed the country since its establishment in 1948. In a matter of just 15 days, Rhee was forced to resign and fled to the US.
During Rhee’s rule the ROK witnessed numerous civilian massacres and human rights abuses perpetrated by the military, police, fascist paramilitary groups, and the US before, during, and after the Korean War (1950-1953). An estimated one million civilians were killed through mass executions and scorched-earth anti-guerrilla campaigns.
This map was produced in 2002 as part of a national campaign to pass a special law to investigate the civilian massacres in the ROK. It shows a total of 94 locations across the southern part of the peninsula where massacres occurred, although subsequent investigations revealed that the actual number of massacres was much higher, exceeding 10 times the initial estimate.
Cubans rallied to commemorate the 64th anniversary of the declaration of the socialist character of its Revolution. Former combatants of the period were present to mark the socialist turn within the revolutionary process.
This proclamation was originally made by Fidel Castro during the funeral of victims of US bombings on Cuban airbases in 1961. He affirmed the Revolution's socialist path and the people's commitment to defend it.
