While Al Jazeera (AJ) presents Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) as a reformed force “showering Damascus with flowers,” the reality on the ground is entirely different. As the ruling power in Syria, HTS is bombing Lebanon and orchestrating violent pogroms against Alawites and other minorities within its territory.
Rather than questioning HTS actions, AJ portrays HTS as a progressive force, downplaying its origins and ongoing repression. This narrative doesn’t exist in isolation, it aligns with a broader effort by the US, the EU, and Gulf states to reshape the region, legitimizing HTS and similar actors while working to dismantle any form of resistance that challenges their influence.

🟡 BREAKING: HTS and Israel are targeting Lebanon simultaneously.
Video footage shows HTS rockets being launched towards Lebanese territory. HTS forces are targeting border towns in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley from the Syrian city of Al-Qusayr. At least one child has been killed and four others have been injured in the HTS attack on Lebanon, according to Al-Mayadeen.
Meanwhile, HTS artillery bombardments are intensifying. In several Lebanese towns along the border with Syria, civilians are being displaced towards the city of Hermel. HTS claims it is targeting alleged Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, according to Al Araby. Hezbollah media officers have reiterated that the party has no connection to the events currently unfolding in Syria or on its borders.
At the same time, Israel is attacking the town of Yaroun in southern Lebanon for the third consecutive time, once again violating the terms of the ceasefire.
US soldiers shot over 500 civilians during one of the most infamous US massacres in modern history, the My Lai massacre that occurred on this day in 1968.
But was it an isolated incident? Instead, the horrific incident represents the US’ modus operandi during its anti-communist war campaign.
Shockingly, only one person was punished for the My Lai massacre but was soon released, while US leaders panicked to cover up the massacre. At the same time, they had to deal with the bitter reality of the impending defeat in the war, too immense to conceal. For all further background information, read on.

The movement erupted following last year’s Novi Sad train station collapse, which killed 15 people and exposed deep-rooted issues of negligence. Protesters, stretching for kilometers, are calling for President Aleksandar Vučić’s resignation.
🟡 BREAKING: The US has launched airstrikes on Yemen, escalating its military aggression in the region.
At least 9 people have been killed and 9 wounded, according to Yemeni Health Ministry spokesman Anis Al-Asbahi, who denounced the American-British raids as reckless. Meanwhile, Trump threatens mass destruction, vowing to crush the Houthis and warning Iran—pushing the same failed war strategy that has fueled endless suffering in the region.
Tens of thousands have taken to the streets of Belgrade in what could be Serbia’s biggest anti-government protest yet. The movement began after last year’s Novi Sad train station collapse, which killed 15 people. Students, who first led the demonstrations, are now joined by farmers.
Facing public outrage over the disaster, President Aleksandar Vučić let his prime minister take the fall—Miloš Vučević resigned in January after several officials were charged. But that has done little to calm anger. Now, as protests grow, authorities are trying to suppress them by canceling public transport.
At the same time, Vučić has warned that security forces will intervene, raising concerns of a crackdown. With authorities escalating their response, protesters are bracing for a confrontation that could define the future of the movement.

What really happened during the massacres of Alawites in Syria? A Syrian Alawite spoke anonymously to red. about the causes and consequences of the sectarian killings.
At least 1,200 civilians—mostly Alawites—have been killed in pogroms led by Syrian government forces since March 6.
For all the Western whitewashing of Syria’s self-declared president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, he can’t shake his history as a Sunni-extremist, our source says.

Under the guise of combating antisemitism, Israel is rolling out the red carpet for some of the world's most notorious far-right extremists, nationalists, and apologists for dictatorship this March in Jerusalem.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will proudly host a disturbing lineup, including Javier Milei, Argentina’s libertarian president who openly praises brutal dictators; Marion Maréchal, granddaughter of the infamous Holocaustdenier Jean-Marie Le Pen; and Jordan Bardella, leader of France’s far-right Rassemblement National. Joining them are Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of Brazil's former president known for glorifying military dictatorship; Serbian ultra-nationalist Milorad Dodik; German conservative figure Armin Laschet; andprominent representatives from Patriots for Europe, a bloc notorious for its extremist views in the EU Parliament. Also attending is Stefan Tompson, a nationalist propagandist affiliated with Visegrad 24.
In the twisted logic of Netanyahu’s
Israel, apparently nothing says "fighting antisemitism," like invitingfar-right extremists, reactionary ideologues, and defenders of authoritarianism right into the heart of Jerusalem.
Read our investigation, “Europe’s Far Right’s Unwavering Support for Israel,” which examines how this alliance has strengthened in recent years.
“The New Right could see Israel not only as a reliable ally but also as an example in many fields, such as the fight against radical Islam.”

Journalists rally in solidarity after police fired a gas canister directly at photojournalist Pablo Grillo’s head. Now he's fighting for his life as outrage mounts across Argentina against Milei’s brutal crackdown. The union is demanding the resignation of Interior Minister Patricia Bullrich.
Grillo is a well-known photojournalist in Argentina and is currently in the hospital fighting for his life. Friends and family have spoken to the media and confirmed that he is in intensive care but haven’t provided detailed updates.
Bullrich is one of the most far-right figures in Milei’s cabinet and was appointed due to her long-standing stance on repressing leftist movements. Following mass anti-austerity protests on Wednesday, Bullrich announced that she would seek 20-year sentences for more than 150 protesters who were arrested.
Footage of the incident shows the brutal attack in real time. Watch here.

"We believe that the struggle to achieve liberation, Palestinian and Jewish liberation, is intertwined and it goes hand in hand" — listen to Mahmoud Khalil's words about the role of student movements for Palestine and their criminalization by the US establishment.
The Trump administration has promised to implement a campaign of criminalization and arrests targeting students involved in university mobilizations. Since the genocidal war on Gaza began, more than 130 encampments have been established at private and public schools across the US.
Since his arrest, people have been organizing protests and sit-ins to demand his release. Protesters have defined Mahmoud as a political prisoner, denouncing his detention as politically motivated. Amnesty International has described the arrest as an attack on human rights.

After imposing an ultimatum on Israel for blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza, Ansarallah reintroduced the naval blockade on Israeli ships in the Red Sea. In response, on March 15, Trump announced the beginning of attacks on Yemen in defense of American interests, freedom of navigation, and to deter enemies. In response the Yemeni Armed Forces targeted Washington’s aircraft carrier the USS Harry Truman twice in 24 hours.
The US-UK attack on Yemen is taking place through the support of Arab states, among them Qatar, which is allowing aircraft to use Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US base in the Middle East. According to the Yemeni Minister of Health, the number of victims has risen to 151 martyrs and wounded, including women and children.

Читать полностью…The US has begun deporting Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador’s CECOT mega-prison, built for gang members. The US claims they are criminals, but Venezuela rejects the allegations, calling it illegal and a human rights violation.
Migrants will be held for at least a year, renewable indefinitely, in a prison notorious for torture and deaths in custody. The US bypassed legal processes, ignoring a judge’s order to halt deportations, using a 1798 wartime law never applied this way.
Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry condemned the decision, stating:
“Venezuelan migrants who left our borders in search of life alternatives did so for economic reasons, a consequence of the hardships inflicted by the criminal blockade on our economy, imposed by Western governments to further regime change in Venezuela. The vast majority are hardworking, dignified, and honest men and women. They are not terrorists, criminals, or ‘foreign enemies.’ They are victims.”

For St. Patrick’s Day ☘️, we honor James Connolly, the leader of Ireland’s revolutionary socialist struggle.
Connolly founded the Irish Socialist Republican Party in 1898 and, in 1903, the Irish Transport & General Workers’ Union, which became the largest union in Ireland and led the 1913 Dublin Lockout.
Connolly also played a leading role in the Easter Rising of 1916 against Britain, waged at the height of WWI under the slogan: “England’s misfortune is Ireland’s opportunity.” On May 12, Connolly and other leaders of the rising were tried by a secret British court-martial that lasted only a few minutes and executed by firing squad.
Connolly believed sacrificing his life was necessary to inspire Irish people to take up arms against British rule, which indeed it would come to do in years and decades that followed. Shortly before his execution, his wife Lillie said to him: “Your life, James, your beautiful life,” to which he replied: “Well, Lillie, hasn’t it been a beautiful life, and isn’t this a good end?”
22 years ago, Rachel Corrie was killed in Gaza by an Israeli military bulldozer while trying to stop the demolition of a Palestinian home in Rafah. Let’s honor her legacy by standing up against oppression and standing with Palestine.

Today, we remember the worst chemical gas attack against civilians in history: the Halabja massacre. Ordered by Saddam Hussein in 1988, this atrocity targeted the Kurdish city during the Iran-Iraq War.
The UN classified the massacre as genocide, highlighting its severity. Over 7,000 people were killed, the majority of whom were civilians. This massacre was a key part of a broader counterinsurgency campaign against oppressed Kurds. These Kurds had sided with the Iranians in their struggle against Hussein.
The massacre was made possible through both direct and indirect support from the US and Germany. These countries manufactured and supplied the poison gas used in the attack. The aftermath of the Halabja massacre is haunting, with many victims suffering long-term effects. These include cancer, skin diseases, infertility, and congenital deformities.

🟡 BREAKING: At least 15 dead and several injured—most of them women and children—following the ongoing American-British aggression on Yemen.
According to Al Mayadeen, the death toll continues to rise as the joint US-UK attacks on Yemen show no signs of stopping. US officials have stated that these operations could last for days, or even weeks.
The US Army’s Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed the operations were launched “to defend American interests, deter enemies, and restore freedom of navigation.” Earlier this week, Yemen’s Ansarallah movement announced it was resuming its naval blockade of Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea, in response to Israel’s continued blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Among Gaza’s ruins, families gather for iftar. In Beit Lahia, residents came together for a communal Ramadan meal, sitting among the rubble of their destroyed homes. They shared whatever food was available, passing plates between the debris as the call to prayer echoed through the ruins.
Even as they ate, there was no guarantee of safety—Israeli attacks have continued despite the ceasefire deal. On the same day, in the very city where families had just gathered, an Israeli drone strike killed nine people, including two journalists and several aid workers from the Al-Khair Foundation.

An Israeli drone strike on Beit Lahia has killed nine people, including two journalists and several aid workers from the Al-Khair Foundation. According to Gaza’s Civil Defense, the victims were in a vehicle belonging to the aid group when they were targeted. The attack was followed by artillery shelling in the area. The bodies were transferred to the Indonesian Hospital, with multiple others injured, some critically.
This was a blunt violation of the ceasefire deal, yet the Israeli military confirmed the strike without providing any justification beyond its ongoing assault on northern Gaza. This latest attack comes as Israel continues to defy the terms of the agreement, refusing to advance to the second phase, which was meant to secure further prisoner exchanges and humanitarian relief.

The Afro-Brazilian politician Marielle Franco was assassinated on this day in 2018, just 18 months after being elected to the Rio de Janeiro City Council. She fought fearlessly against racist power structures throughout her life, regardless of constant threats.
As a Black woman and single mother, she was dedicated to defending those who lived in the Favelas, sharing her fate. She campaigned against racist police violence, exacerbated by former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Her assassins, who killed her on March 14, 2018, were eventually revealed to be part of the state apparatus—two former police officers with ties to Bolsonaro.
Franco will be remembered for challenging Brazil’s conservative political landscape, predominantly occupied by white men, and using her position to amplify the voices of Brazil’s most underrepresented communities.

Did you know that Albert Einstein was a supporter of Soviet science?
Despite being a US citizen, even during the Cold War, Einstein admired the Soviet Union's contributions to science and advocated for cooperation between Soviet and Western scientists.
