A child was sexually abused every 30 minutes in eastern DR Congo. In just two months of fighting, nearly 10,000 cases of sexual violence were reported — up to 45% involving children, according to the UN. The organization calls it not a side effect of war but a deliberate weapon.

The surge followed the advance of M23 rebels, who seized Goma and Bukavu, displacing thousands. UNICEF warns the real toll is likely far higher — hidden under fear, stigma, and silence. Survivors lack access to care, and most perpetrators remain untouched.

As the DR Congo suffers under war and mass displacement, the US is moving to secure control over its vast reserves of cobalt and lithium — minerals essential to its tech and energy industries. Talks are underway to grant US companies access to these resources in exchange for security help.

Authorities—including President Gustavo Petro and the Ministry of Equality—have called for a thorough investigation and acknowledged the structural discrimination faced by LGBT and trans communities in Colombia.

This morning, 40 migrants were deported from Italy to a migration center in Gjader, Albania.

This marks Italy’s fourth attempt to deport migrants to centers built in Albania. In the first three attempts, Italy transferred asylum seekers intercepted at sea. Both European and Italian courts ruled against the legality of their detention, forcing Italy to return them. Recently, Italy approved a new decree to repurpose the centers in Albania as repatriation hubs.

In Italy, there are ten repatriation hubs, known as “CPR,” located on the outskirts of cities, where the lack of basic rights, as well as psychological and physical abuse, and suicide attempts, have been repeatedly documented. The European Court of Human Rights has repeatedly condemned these Italian hubs for inhuman and degrading treatment. Politicians and NGOs have denounced the lack of transparency surrounding the deportations in Albania.

Türkiye and Israel are negotiating the division of power in Syria.

Recently, military delegations from both countries met in Azerbaijan to discuss a "deconfliction line" aimed at preventing clashes between their forces in Syria. Both Türkiye and Israel are wary of each other’s expansionist ambitions.

While Israel continues its occupation and bombing of Syria, Türkiye is planning to establish military bases, form a joint defense pact with Syria, and support the development of a Syrian air force—all aimed at expanding its own occupation and influence in the country. The deal follows Israel’s bombing of the T4 base in Palmyra, after reports emerged of Ankara’s plans to control the base and equip it with a defense system. Israel has defined Türkiye's expanding military presence in Syria as a red line.

The talks also address US concerns about de-escalating tensions between the two countries. Israeli media have compared the Türkiye-Israel negotiations to Sykes-Picot, highlighting their divisive impact on Syria.

Today, Ahmad al-Sharaa is expected in Ankara to discuss joint military, economic, and diplomatic projects in Syria.

The US has blocked funds from Gulf countries to Lebanon, intensifying pressure on the country to accept its political demands.

Morgan Ortagus, US Deputy Special Envoy to the Middle East, has explicitly outlined the conditions set by the US for Lebanon.Through direct and indirect pressure, the US is pushing for the disarmament of Hezbollah, as well as normalization with Israel, which persists in violating the ceasefire and occupying Lebanon. Beyond the IMF and World Bank, the US has also asked Qatar and Saudi Arabia to halt their financial support to Lebanon, according to Al-Akhbar.

Qatar and Saudi Arabia, both US allies, had pledged economic support for Lebanon following President Aoun's election and the formation of the new government. Facing an economic crisis, Lebanon requires over $6B to rebuild damage caused by Israeli attacks. Hezbollah has secured substantial reconstruction funds and Iran has signaled its readiness to assist, with the US enforcing its maximum pressure policy.

Germany plans to “launch a deportation campaign,” according to the new coalition agreement under conservative Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The migration plan mirrors almost exactly that of the far-right AfD, which recently became the leading party in German polls for the first time. Islam appears only as a security threat—Muslim life is either ignored or criminalized.

Violence erupted in southern India as police attacked protesters opposing the new Waqf (Amendment) Act. Demonstrators from the Solidarity Youth Movement and Students Islamic Organisation were met with smoke grenades, water cannons, and batons in Karipur, Kerala.

The law, pushed through by Modi’s far-right government, adds non-Muslims to boards overseeing Muslim community properties. These lands include mosques, schools, graveyards, orphanages, and other vital services.

Muslim groups and opposition leaders call it a direct assault on religious autonomy. Without formal documents, many historic sites could be seized or dismantled—deepening fears of erasure under an increasingly Hindu nationalist state.

To understand how Modi’s rise is rooted in anti-Muslim violence, go back to Gujarat, 2002—and take a closer look at how it shaped his political path.

🟡 BREAKING: Ahmad Manasra, imprisoned at the age of 13, has been released from Israeli detention.

After serving a nine-and-a-half-year sentence—during which he endured torture and years in solitary confinement—he is finally free. Although Israeli courts found no evidence, Ahmad was accused at age 13 of attempting to murder two Israelis in Jerusalem.

A widely circulated video showed Ahmad’s interrogation while he was a child, conducted without a lawyer or a parent present. Israeli interrogators reportedly deprived him of sleep, physically assaulted him, and denied him a fair trial. The prolonged torture led to severe psychiatric conditions, with his mental health deteriorating to a life-threatening level.

Today, at 23 years old, Ahmad has been released under strict conditions. Journalists are barred from entering his family’s building, gatherings are not allowed, and no one is permitted to welcome him home.

Israeli warplanes bombed the operations building of Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, the last functioning hospital in Gaza City. The two-story structure housed the surgical department, intensive care unit, and oxygen generation station.

Hospital staff and eyewitnesses said the Israeli army issued a warning just minutes before the strike, forcing a rushed evacuation of patients and families. Some were wheeled out without proper care. At least three people died as a result, including a child recovering from head injuries.

The attack comes as Gaza’s health system collapses under siege. No fuel or medical supplies have entered in over 40 days. Despite the destruction, hospital staff say they will continue. “We’ll rebuild again.”

Six months after Odair Moniz was killed by police in Portugal, the streets of Amadora still echo with his name. On Saturday, hundreds marched in his memory, not only to honor the man lost but to challenge a system that continues to protect those who kill with a badge.

Odair, a Black man and resident of Cova da Moura, was shot dead by police in October. In the hours that followed, several mainstream news outlets reported that the car he was driving had been stolen. That was false. Police also claimed he had a knife during the shooting, a claim they later admitted was untrue.

In January, the Public Prosecutor formally accused the officer of homicide, a charge that carries a potential sentence of up to 16 years. But he has not been tried, is not in custody, and remains on leave.

The judge now assigned to the case is the same who convicted Cláudia Simões, a Black woman who was beaten by police and then blamed for the assault, which left her face marked with bruises.

Clashes broke out between police and protesters in Peru yesterday as transport workers went on strike against a surge in violent crime. The strike targeted what workers describe as a security crisis spiraling under the neoliberal government of Dina Boluarte. Boluarte, who came to power at the end of 2022 through what many consider a US-backed coup, now faces growing unrest across the country.

In Lima and other cities, criminal gangs have expanded their grip—extorting, robbing, and threatening public transport workers and local businesses. Peru’s security breakdown reflects a wider regional trend, with countries like Ecuador also experiencing a sharp rise in violent crime after years of economic liberalization and weakened public institutions.

🟡 NEW: Leaked emails show Berlin officials pressured their own staff to deport pro-Palestine activists—despite no convictions. One employee initially resisted, then gave in to pressure from above.

German authorities attempted to deport four Palestine solidarity activists without trial. The activists had allegedly participated in a university occupation in Berlin in solidarity with Palestine.

The deportation attempt targeted a US citizen and three EU nationals. One has since challenged the deportation order in court, pausing it temporarily.

The crackdown marks a new level of repression in Germany against pro-Palestine organizing, even expelling individuals with EU and US citizenship purely for political activity. German authorities justify this by citing the so-called “Staatsräson”—the state’s interest, even when it conflicts with morality or the law.

In an interview, those affected stated that “we are being made an example of” to intimidate the Palestine movement in Germany.

Tear gas and repression — the Brazilian police’s response to Indigenous communities peacefully marching for their land rights.

The crackdown unfolded last night in the capital as Indigenous groups were leaving a peaceful demonstration. Officers used chemical agents against the crowd. Federal lawmaker Célia Xakriabá, of the leftist PSOL party, was among those targeted. She required medical attention after being denied passage, despite identifying herself.

Brazil’s leading Indigenous organizations condemned the violence, describing it as yet another example of state-sanctioned aggression against their communities. The march had called on the government to officially recognize ancestral lands and protect them from agribusiness interests.

Today, in 2002, right-wing forces backed by the US attempted to overthrow former Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, but were ultimately defeated by popular resistance. Watch this powerful speech by the Bolivarian revolutionary, who rallied thousands against imperialism.

On April 11, 2002, the Venezuelan elite, the Church, and segments of the military organized a coup against then-President Hugo Chávez. However, the Venezuelan people flooded the streets to defend the Bolivarian Revolution and overpowered the US-backed right-wing coup.

The coup plotters aimed to install a de facto government led by Pedro Carmona, a business mogul and former president of the chamber of commerce, who intended to dissolve all other state powers and local authorities.

The people brought Chávez back to power within just 47 hours. The counterrevolutionary offensive backfired, as the mass mobilization politicized wider segments of the population, who organized themselves into Bolivarian collectives.

🟡 BREAKING: Israeli occupation forces placed Ahmad Manasra, arrested at 13 and jailed for 9 years, under house arrest just hours after his release. Authorities set bail at 3,000 shekels. Detained in occupied Jerusalem, Manasra became a symbol of Israel’s imprisonment of Palestinian youth.

His release was carried out away from the prison, in an attempt to prevent his family from receiving him. He was left alone in a remote area near Beersheba, where a passerby eventually found him and contacted his family. The family, who had waited outside Nafha Prison in the south, reunited with him only later.

“165 days of torture.” Today, Israel released ten prisoners from the besieged Gaza Strip. They had been held in the infamous Sde Teiman torture center, where rape and torture to death of Palestinian prisoners have been documented. The prisoners show various signs of torture on their bodies, including one who is unable to walk.

Since October 2023, Israel has detained over 15,800 Palestinians from the West Bank. The figure does not include those arrested from the Gaza Strip, as Israel has not provided any details about individuals arbitrarily detained there.

“We want to return to the camp.” Listen to a Palestinian man defying the Israeli army in Tulkarem refugee camp.

Displaced residents of Tulkarem refugee camp have been trying to return to their homes despite the presence of the Israeli army. The Israeli military operation "Iron Wall" has been ongoing in Tulkarem for over 70 days, expanding day by day. The army has destroyed roads, residential areas, and infrastructure, making the camp unrecognizable. Residents describe the destruction in Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nablus as worse than during the Second Intifada.

Israeli annexation plans in Palestine are being implemented in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The ongoing displacement of Palestinians has surpassed 40,000 people, and the approval of new settlement plans has reached record numbers in 2025. In February, Finance Minister Smotrich stated, “Tulkarem and Jenin are going to look like Jabaliya and Shujayia.”

32 years ago today, one of South Africa’s most iconic figures, the communist revolutionary Chris Hani, was assassinated.

Born Martin Thembisile Hani, he is remembered as the charismatic, passionate, and principled General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP).

At just 15, Hani joined the ANC Youth League and became active in protests against the Bantu Education Act. After completing his studies, he joined the ANC’s armed wing, uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK), eventually rising to the position of chief of staff. Pursued by the apartheid regime, he went into hiding and adopted the name Chris. He received military training in the Soviet Union and fought in joint operations between MK and the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.

Following the unbanning of the ANC in 1991, Hani returned to South Africa and succeeded Joe Slovo as leader of the SACP. On April 10, 1993, he was assassinated by white supremacist Janusz Waluś.
