Israel is believed to have besieged and executed 15 Civil Defense crew members in Rafah.
On Monday, Gaza’s civil defense lost contact with its team in Rafah after they responded to rescue calls. The Israeli army reportedly besieged the crew, executed them, and buried their bodies. Their vehicles were destroyed, some buried too, making it difficult to locate the victims.
Yesterday, a team from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) accompanied Civil Defense members to Rafah to discover the fate of their colleagues. Only one body was found, Anwar Al-Attar, the head of the Civil Defense mission in Rafah. Search operations have been ongoing since this morning to locate the others.
Gaza’s Government Media Office stated, “The Israeli occupation is deliberately targeting medical and relief workers, in direct defiance of international agreements that guarantee their safety.” According to the UN, over 333 aid workers in Gaza have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 2023.
Türkiye’s Anti-Government Protests Enter Day 8
🟡 Nearly 1,900 protesters have been arrested since the unrest began, including numerous journalists, according to Türkiye’s Interior Ministry.
🟡 Turkish authorities deported BBC correspondent Mark Lowen after he spent days covering the protests. AFP journalist Yasin Akgul, who was previously arrested, has been released.
🟡 The opposition CHP is calling for an escalation of the protests and has announced a massive demonstration this Saturday that would “initiate a new phase.”

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has denounced its inability to bring food supplies into Gaza for more than three weeks. The WFP has also warned that hundreds of thousands in Gaza face renewed risks of severe hunger and malnutrition due to Israel’s ongoing blockade and the resumption of war.
Protests have also erupted in the Strip to denounce the unstoppable mass killing of Palestinians, their living conditions, and Israel’s total impunity. Slogans expressed the Palestinian people's will to live—as the Israeli army dropped over 100,000 tons of explosives on the besieged Strip—as well as some criticism of the Hamas movement.

🟡 HAPPENING NOW: Police are cracking down on protests in Jakarta and other parts of Indonesia, where people are demanding the repeal of a controversial military law. In the capital, crowds have once again gathered outside the national parliament. Reports say officers have searched and disbanded street medics and damaged medical supplies. Water cannons were used against demonstrators.
Protesters also report that plainclothes intelligence agents are carrying firearms. Police have begun dispersing the crowd, arresting several people as tensions escalate. The law, passed behind closed doors, allows active-duty military officers to hold civilian posts across key state institutions.

Turkey has been rocked by its biggest anti-government protests in over a decade, now stretching beyond a week. Here’s where things stand:
While the protests span various political groups—with socialist parties and organizations also joining the frontlines—Turkish nationalist forces have become more visible, pushing anti-Kurdish rhetoric and targeting the pro-Kurdish DEM party.
DEM initially called for mobilization and criticized the arrest of İmamoğlu but has largely restrained itself, also participating in negotiations between the Kurdish PKK and the government.
A dynamic student movement is experimenting with different protest tactics. What began with campus shutdowns through education strikes has expanded to calls for boycotting government-aligned businesses, blocking streets, and forming protest committees.
Police have arrested about 1,500 people over alleged ties to the protests. Since March 21, 2025, 447 people—including 20 children—have been detained, and 177 arrested. Seven journalists have been jailed ahead of trial. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya posted on X, vowing “no concessions” for those who “terrorize the streets.”
Media coverage inside Turkey is being heavily censored. According to Reporters Without Borders, over 85% of national media is controlled by the government. Authorities have jailed activists over social media posts, while X has complied with Turkish demands to suspend protest-aligned accounts.
A court in Ankara rejected an attempt by authorities to block the opposition CHP party’s planned extraordinary congress, which was allegedly meant to “prevent outside interference.”
After Istanbul’s opposition mayor, CHP’s Ekrem İmamoğlu, was stripped of his authority, the city council elected another CHP politician as a temporary replacement. In the past, authorities have replaced jailed opposition mayors—especially Kurdish politicians—with so-called “trustees” loyal to the ruling AKP.
Internationally, the unrest, police brutality, and government crackdown on the opposition have had little impact on President Erdoğan. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan was welcomed at the White House by US counterpart Marco Rubio to discuss lifting sanctions on F-35 fighter jet sales to Turkey.
red. media spoke with students in Istanbul about the unprecedented anti-government protests currently shaking Türkiye. Universities have become hotspots of unrest, with students and some professors shutting down multiple institutions across the country.
The protests were sparked by the arrest of Erdoğan's top political rival, CHP’s Ekrem İmamoğlu, but have since morphed into a broader movement beyond party lines. At universities, calls for deep reforms to the country's broken, underfunded education system are growing louder.
Videos went viral showing Turkish riot police attempting to quash protests on several campuses by using overwhelming force. Meanwhile, students repeatedly fought to break through barricades, defying the crackdown.

Since October 2023, Israel has killed at least 208 journalists and media workers. Journalists have reportedly been threatened by the Israeli army with death, along with their families. Hossam Shabat was placed on a hit list by the Israeli army. At the time, he said he felt “hunted” and called on people to speak out using the hashtag #ProtectTheJournalists.

A Palestinian freed prisoner and resistance fighter clashed with the Israeli army for hours before being killed in Qalqilya, occupied Palestine.
Bara' Miskawi, 20, was wanted by the Israeli army. Last year, he was released after serving a 20-month sentence. Yesterday night, he fought alone against the Israeli army in the heavily monitored West Bank, currently under one of the largest Israeli military campaigns, shouting messages of solidarity with Gaza.
Bara' wrote the words said by Sinwar, former leader of Hamas, before being killed in Gaza: “And the red freedom has a door, struck by every bloodied hand." This line, part of a 1926 poem, honors the struggle for a nation's freedom during colonial times.
After his death, his body was taken by the Israeli army, a practice to inflict further pain on Palestinian families. Without considering the bodies in Gaza due to the lack of data, Israel is holding over 641 Palestinian bodies in its “Cemeteries of Numbers.”

“Only children are dying”. Israel’s ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip continues to raise the death toll, which has officially surpassed 50,144 killed. This figure does not include those still trapped under rubble or vaporized by heavy bombardments.
More than 270 children have been killed in the seven days since Israel resumed its war on Gaza on March 18. Save the Children has called Israel’s resumption of the war “a death sentence for Gaza’s children.” According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, more than 17,900 children have been killed since October 2023.
This morning, Israel expanded displacement orders to tens of thousands of residents in all of Gaza’s northern border towns. Meanwhile, a team from the Palestine Red Crescent Society has been missing for the third consecutive day after being besieged by Israeli tanks during a rescue mission in Rafah.

🟡 BREAKING: Israel has bombed Beirut’s Dahyeih suburb.
Since the ceasefire on November 27, 2024, Lebanese authorities have reported over 1,250 Israeli violations, resulting in at least 106 people killed and over 336 injuries. This is the first direct strike on Beirut since then.
This morning, after two missiles were launched from southern Lebanon toward Israeli settlements, Israel carried out massive airstrikes across the South, targeting at least 11 locations, including Beirut. According to Al-Akhbar, Israel has also used white phosphorus munitions too.
Hezbollah has denied involvement and reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire, accusing Israel of fabricating pretexts to justify its aggression on Lebanon. In addition to the ongoing violations and killings by Israel in Lebanon, Israel has refused to withdraw from Lebanese territory, maintaining its occupation.
A devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake has struck Southeast Asia, with Bangkok and central Myanmar among the hardest hit. In Bangkok, a 30-story skyscraper under construction collapsed, trapping at least 43 workers and prompting the government to declare a state of emergency.
In Myanmar, multiple buildings in Mandalay fell, and a major hospital in Naypyidaw was forced to treat numerous casualties in an outdoor triage area. A 6.4-magnitude aftershock followed shortly after the initial quake, further complicating rescue efforts.
Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities in both countries work to assess the full extent of the damage. Working-class neighborhoods in Bangkok, marked by overcrowding and poor infrastructure, are particularly vulnerable. Thai officials have not yet released displacement figures for these communities, which face heightened risk due to the city’s stark inequality.

Brazil’s Supreme Court has unanimously accepted charges against former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro and seven others. They are now officially defendants, accused of attempting a coup against current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in 2023.
The charges include leading an armed criminal organization, attempting a violent overthrow of the state, and causing qualified damage. If convicted, they could face 20 to 26 years in prison.
The attempted coup occurred on January 8, 2023, when far-right groups loyal to Bolsonaro tried to violently storm the Presidential Palace, Congress, and the Supreme Court—just one week after Lula was sworn into office. The rioters claimed they were trying to save the country from “communism” and sought to overturn Lula’s election victory.

Another pro-Palestinian student arrested in the US. Rumeysa Oztur, a Tufts PhD candidate, union organizer, and vocal advocate for Palestine, has been detained by ICE. Fellow students say ICE is operating “like kidnappers.”
Her lawyers have not been informed of her location or allowed any contact—an opaque process eerily similar to the recent case of Mahmoud Khalil, a green card holder also targeted for his activism. The arrest highlights a pattern targeting critics of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, with pro-Palestinian voices increasingly silenced under the guise of immigration enforcement.

“The lands of the Syrian Arab Republic are forbidden to Israel.” Beyond the genocidal war on Gaza, Israel continues its attacks on Syria and Lebanon.
In recent days, Israel invaded and bombed the Syrian village of Koayiah, killing seven people and forcing residents to flee. Locals protested the attack, urging the new Syrian administration and the international community to intervene and stop Israel's aggression. Last night, Israel struck the city of Latakia several times. Ahmad al-Sharaa has not commented on the Israeli attacks.
In Lebanon, despite the ceasefire, Israeli attacks persist. Israeli drones continue to fly over Lebanese territory, and attacks leading to deaths continue. This morning, Israel bombed Yahmar al-Shaqif in south Lebanon with 13 artillery shells, killing at least four people. Lebanese authorities reported over 1,250 Israeli violations of the ceasefire, including at least 100 fatalities and over 330 injuries.

Ecuador’s neoliberal President Daniel Noboa has been linked to drug trafficking in an investigative report. Journalist Andrés Durán has revealed that between 2020 and 2022, 700 kilograms of cocaine were seized at the Naportec port in Guayaquil, hidden in banana shipments from Noboa Trading—a company owned by the president’s family, one of the wealthiest landowning dynasties in the country.
Despite the scale of the seizures, no one has been held accountable. Durán, who uncovered the story, fled Ecuador after receiving death threats and facing legal harassment.
During a recent debate, Noboa acknowledged his family's connection to the company but denied personal ownership, insisting that Noboa Trading has cooperated with authorities. Still, the judicial process remains murky, with reports of prosecutors being removed from related cases.
The Noboa family built its fortune on banana exports, a trade route long exploited by traffickers. Noboa now faces leftist challenger Luis Gonzalez in a runoff election.

Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF) have recaptured Khartoum International Airport from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). RSF fighters fled across a nearby bridge as the army secured full control of the facility, according to military sources.
The development follows SAF’s seizure of the Republican Palace and several key government buildings last week, including the Central Bank and the National Intelligence Service headquarters. SAF troops have also encircled areas surrounding the airport, tightening their grip on the capital in a major push against the RSF.
The RSF, originally established under former president Omar al-Bashir, has been in a power struggle with SAF since both sides carried out a joint coup in 2021, dissolving the transitional government. The conflict escalated in April 2023, leading to widespread civilian casualties, displacement, and destruction of infrastructure.

On this day in 2015, Saudi Arabia launched its brutal and illegal war on Yemen. The US-backed war has caused the world’s worst humanitarian crisis and at least 377,000 deaths.
Nine years on—and almost two years since Saudi bombs last rained down on Yemen—Saudi Arabia’s most important backers, the US and UK, have continued the deed by bombing Yemen in a new wave of aggression against the country.

The US-led bombing campaign in Yemen, carried out with the support of Gulf states, has killed at least 53 people. During the night, over 17 US strikes hit Saada and Amran in the northern part of the country. This aggression against Yemen aims to weaken its support for the Palestinian people, end the maritime blockade, and halt attacks on Israel.
Despite the aggression, Yemen's Ansarallah reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people. Yesterday, it announced targeting Ben Gurion Airport with ballistic missiles, along with several US warships in the Red Sea, including the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman.

"There are no human rights." — Listen to Hamdan Ballal, a Palestinian activist and director, in an interview with red. media from 2022 in Masafer Yatta.
Ballal, the Palestinian co-director of the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, was brutally beaten and arrested by Israeli forces last night. After being attacked by Israeli settlers, he was taken to an ambulance for medical treatment—only to be arrested by Israeli forces while still inside. Ballal was released a few hours ago, having suffered beatings from both soldiers and settlers across his body.
Masafer Yatta, in the occupied West Bank, has been under threat of eviction since the 1980s, when the Israeli military designated the area a firing zone, ordering over 1,000 residents to be expelled. Israeli settlers and the army regularly attack residents, restrict their access to land, and destroy homes, tents, water tanks, and olive orchards.

Protests erupted in the streets of Goma over a potential mineral deal between the DR Congo and the US. Demonstrators voiced strong opposition to the proposed agreement, put forward by the Tshisekedi government, which would grant US corporations access to Congo’s vast mineral resources in exchange for military aid and possible US intervention.
Congo holds substantial reserves of cobalt, copper, tantalum, diamonds, and tin. All of these—except diamonds—are listed as critical minerals by the US government, resources Washington deems essential to counter China’s dominance in global supply chains. In return for military support against the M23 rebel group, Kinshasa appears willing to hand over strategic control of these resources to US interests.

Why are protests erupting in Indonesia right now?
Indonesia’s parliament has passed a controversial law expanding the military’s role in government. The new legislation, discussed behind closed doors, allows active-duty officers to occupy civilian posts in 14 state institutions, including the Supreme Court and the Attorney General’s Office. President Prabowo, a former special forces commander under Suharto’s dictatorship, approved the law—drawing comparisons to the military control of that era.
Demonstrations have broken out in multiple cities. Students, activists, and concerned citizens have taken to the streets. Police have responded with tear gas, water cannons, and batons. Dozens have been hospitalized. There are reports that some injured protesters are being arrested directly from hospitals.
In Surabaya, Molotovs were thrown during confrontations with riot squads. Protesters say the violence reflects growing frustration with escalating repression.
