Telegram will launch an anonymous virtual number service
In Beta version of Telegram for Android, you can see a mention of virtual numbers that can be purchased on the Fragment platform.
In early Beta versions, it was possible to log into the account with a number starting with the prefix +888 and belonging to Fragment.

General topic in the Telegram forums
In the upcoming Telegram update, the forums will have a new topic - "General" topic. This information was confirmed on the forum by Pavel Durov.
The aim of general topic is to preserve the old messages of the group, which has turned into a forum.
This feature is also mentioned in the Beta version of Telegram for macOS — for example, the general topic can be hidden in the forum. Similar to the archive, the main topic is hidden at the top until the user opens it with a gesture.
Currently, the function is not fully functional due to server restrictions.

Announcement of new features for small groups
Telegram tweeted that the messenger team is currently working on features that are exclusively useful for small groups.
Earlier in a Telegram blog, it was already mentioned that new tools for organizing communication are planned to be released by the end of the year. It is assumed that the novelties will best suit small groups. Details on the future functions are not yet available.

Telegram continues to promote the username auction
In the recent update Telegram for iOS version 9.1.1 began offering to buy usernames on the Fragment auction. It happens when the user tries to assign a username that was revoked in the recent purge.
Currently only usernames starting from A to Q are available. If you try to assign a name that isn't on the auction yet, a default error is shown.
This is the first time the auction has been mentioned inside the app, apart from the mass messages coming from a service account.

The messenger's official service notification account has sent out information to users about the possibility of buying and selling usernames through the Fragment platform.
Currently, the platform hosts 1,358 unique usernames, 315 of them have already been bought at auction.
Selling usernames at the Fragment auction
It has become possible to sell any username in Telegram through an auction on the Fragment site.
To sell, you will need to log in using your Telegram account and link your TON wallet. Next, you place the first bid, from which the auction will start. The minimum bet is 10 TON.
On the Fragment website, there is a "My usernames" button in your account. The "Non-Collectible Usernames" section displays all your usernames - your account, your groups and channels.
When someone places a large bid, you will be refunded the amount of the original bid. However, if there are no more bets, you will get your bet back minus a commission of 5% and 5 TON.
In the event that someone outbids you, you will receive 95% of the highest bid plus your original bid.
It is forbidden to sell blocked usernames at the auction.
New interactive emojis and reactions
• Telegram has 4 new interactive emojis: 😴, 👨💻, 🤓, 👀.
• They are accompanied by full-screen animations in private chats, and can also be used as reactions to messages.
• For Halloween, 3 thematic reactions are available to all users in any chats: 👻, 🎃, 😭.

Topics in groups
• To make it easier for users to follow the flow of information in large conversations, administrators of groups of 200 or more members can now organize discussions by topic.
• A new feature allows create separate chats within the main group for certain discussions.
• For each such topic, you can separately set up new message notifications and quickly view the media files that were published in it in the General Media section.
• Participants of such "sub-chats" have access to the entire arsenal of familiar tools, including polls, pinned messages and bots.
• Administrators can enable themes in Group Settings and choose who can create topics in the Permissions section.
• If necessary, users can view the group chat as a single thread, and then switch back to view topics.

Telegram for Android, iOS and macOS were updated to version 9.1. Telegram Desktop has been updated to version 4.3.
Topics in groups

• Any of the purchased public names can be deactivated. In this case, it will not be visible in the search results, but it will still remain with the owner.

Telegram October update delayed
Pavel Durov, in his telegram-channel, informed that the latest update of the messenger is stuck on a check stage in Apple Review for more than a week. However, there are no reasons given by the moderation of the platform.
“Apple claims they review apps within 24 hours, but, in our experience, it takes at least 7-10 days for any meaningful product update to reach the App Store. My friends who run smaller apps tell me it's even worse for them, as they have to wait more than a month just to ship bug fixes to their Apple users” - says Pavel Durov about the app update moderation process in the App Store.
Pavel Durov asked devs to send reports about problems with App Store or Google Play with signature "DMA" to his email address pavel@telegram.org.
“It will be up to Apple to decide if they want to spend their resources on improving their processes — or on fines." — Durov concludes his speech.
Problems accessing Telegram links
The editors of Telegram Info noticed the problem for the following short links of the messenger: t.me and telegram.space.
Some people are also having problems accessing video messages on telesco.pe and documentation on core.telegram.org.

Paid posts don't work on iOS devices anymore
Likely, it's related to Apple's policies. According to App Store guidelines, digital goods must be sold only using Apple's payment system, which charges a 15-30% fee from each transaction.
Paid posts were launched on all platforms yesterday. They use Telegram's own payment system.
NFT is not a Username
The Fragment auction refuses to take liability for compensating NFT buyers if a company or brand makes a formal request to Telegram for the transfer of a public name for use of its brand. Telegram can unlink an NFT from a username and such outcome is quite realistic.
Artem Abaev, Finpanda founder, comments: "To protect customer rights, Fragment needs to work out a Refund policy. [...] If the rules of the game remain fuzzy, buying names like @dior will, in my opinion, be a risky deal."
@tginfo prepared a detailed analysis of Fragment's ToS, discusses possible risks like Telegram account ban or removal of an NFT from Fragment's exchange, and also talks about a recent incident, where a channel with a purchased collectible username was banned for copyright infringement.

Selling username without a starting bid
Fragment has changed the rules of usernames bidding. Now the user does not have to make the first bid to start bidding.
This is primarily useful for those who wanted to sell their usernames but could not put them on the site for fear of losing 5 TON + 5% of the sale. Also, it may also be of interest to those who want to buy an address, as there is no time limit of 1 week before the initial bid is set.
It is important that the first bid is still needed to get to the main page of the auction, without this action, the username is available only through the search, but can already be bought by anyone.

Telegram will improve the anti-spam system
The Beta version of Telegram for macOS references for a new "aggressive" anti-spam system appeared.

The results of the competition for the development of options in Telegram X for Android have been announced
The objective of the October contest was to implement in Telegram X comments, threads, the "Send as..." button and improved search (optional) identical to the attached demo materials.
Despite the strong recommendation of the organizers to focus on the implementation of one feature to achieve the highest quality, some contestants tried themselves in the development of two or three options at once.
When testing submitted submissions and evaluating the code of entries, the judges focused on the following criteria: code consistency, overall app stability, and how closely the submitted design was followed.

Telegram source code for macOS was updated
After 6 months of delay, Telegram has updated the source code of the macOS app on GitHub.
Previously, we compared which Telegram clients publish their source code on time and which have some delay. Telegram revokes fraudulent gifted Premium subscriptions
Users who fraudulently bought Premium subscriptions from third-party vendors have started receiving notifications from Telegram's service account stating that their subscriptions have been canceled.
Legal subscriptions that were purchased or received as gift will remain valid.
Earlier, users discovered a vulnerability in Telegram, which allowed them to give out Premium for free to other users by various methods (from Jailbreak on an iOS device to a single purchase via Apple Gift Card, including some steps in between), thus abusing the "hole" in the messenger. The financial damage to the messenger due to the lack of money received for subscriptions could be estimated at hundreds of thousands, or even millions of US dollars.
The Telegram team reminds: If you want to purchase a genuine Telegram Premium subscription, you must use the verified @PremiumBot or other official payment methods. Otherwise, as this situation shows, you may pay not only for the subscription, but also for your money (which scammers are unlikely to reimburse).

Source code of Telegram for macOS hasn't been updated for six months
On its main page, Telegram lists the clients' open source code as one of its strengths.
The best in terms of openness are Telegram Desktop, Unigram, WebK and WebZ, which always publish source code on time, have an open development process and accept changes from the community.
Telegram for iOS and Telegram for Android usually publish the source code on the day of the update, but sometimes there is a delay of a few days to a week.
Telegram for macOS hasn't published source code for six months - the latest update is dated April 21, version 8.7.
Timely source code updates give the community a chance to participate in the development of the messenger, and third-party developers to create modifications.

Apple's monopoly suppresses independent content creators and entrepreneurs
Pavel Durov has confirmed App Store guidelines are to blame in paid posts shutdown on iOS and macOS.
Telegram finds it unfair that content creators are allowed to monetize inside Apple's ecosystem only by giving 30% of their income to the monopolistic corporation.
"This is just another example of how a trillion-dollar monopoly abuses its market dominance at the expense of millions of users who are trying to monetize their own content. I hope that the regulators in the EU, India and elsewhere start taking action before Apple destroys more dreams and crushes more entrepreneurs with a tax that is higher than any government-levied VAT.
In the meantime, we at Telegram shall work to offer creators powerful and easy-to-use tools to monetize their content – outside of Apple's restrictive ecosystem." — Durov added.

Viber blocks clicks on Telegram links
Users noticed that the mobile app stopped highlighting t.me links in messages, thus preventing them from being clicked. The reasons for Viber's actions are unknown.
tginfoen.t.me, tx.me/tginfoen, and telegram.me/tginfoen links continue to work.
Viber messenger is especially popular in Ukraine and Belarus and is Telegram's main competitor in these regions.
For context, in the past Instagram blocked t.me links in profile bios, while Twitter used to consider articles posted on telegra.ph as spam.
