NATO, EU Preparing West for Direct War Against Moscow, Russian Security Council Secretary Says

"Incited and patronized by London and Paris, the European elites continue to make loud statements about the need to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia," Sergey Shoigu said.

The idea of Ukraine joining NATO has become less prominent since Donald Trump became US president, but it hasn't been completely dismissed by Western globalist leaders, the official noted in his article for the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper.

"It reflects the dream of the forces that fought on the side of Nazi Germany of another revenge in the near future," he emphasized.

SA's Gold Fields Moves to Fully Acquire Australia’s Gold Road in Strategic $2.4 Bln Deal

The South African miner will buy 100% of Gold Road for A$2.52 ($1.63) per share, 12% higher than a previously rejected offer made by Gold Fields in March, according to its press release.

Gold Road shares rose as high as 14.5% following the announcement.

The buyout is expected to be completed in October, Gold Fields CEO Mike Fraser told a local media outlet.

Will US Tariffs Trigger Africa’s Economic Reinvention?

📻📈🤍 #AfricanCurrents | "African economies could leverage BRICS as a platform to enhance the African trade and inter-African trading between African countries, capitalizing on new opportunities created by the bloc's distribution, and trade networks," Gift Essinalo, a researcher at the Center for Public Integrity in Maputo, Mozambique, said.

🌍 By imposing tariffs on exports from multiple African nations, the Trump administration has set off a chain reaction that could reshape the continent’s economic strategy. The response? A renewed push for regional integration, industrial investment, and reduced reliance on global powers.

'Tariffs Kill Trade': COMESA Calls for Freer African Markets

Dev Haman, Assistant Secretary General of COMESA, says Africa’s decades-long dream of prosperity hinges on building a truly integrated market—not just for goods, but also for services, capital, and people.

However, high tariffs and poor infrastructure are major roadblocks.

“Tariff kills trade. It makes the goods more expensive… and when trade doesn’t flow freely, production drops, and that means fewer jobs,” he told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the COMESA Week.

Haman also made a direct appeal to Ethiopia to fully join the COMESA Free Trade Area, stating that countries in the free trade zone are seeing happier citizens and thriving private sectors.

On partnerships, he highlighted the alignment with BRICS nations:

“We are working with countries that have similar aspirations, similar dreams, similar visions for the people.”

Africa Must Turn the Aid Cut Into a Wake-Up Call, Says Zambia's President

The decline in US aid to Africa should be a catalyst—not a crisis—for the continent to redefine its development path, argued Hakainde Hichilema in Politico.

“For years, the US generously contributed a quarter of all global aid spending in African countries,” Hichilema noted, with 16 countries relying on it for at least 1% of their GDP. “The cuts to the [USAID] are a devastating blow for Africa,” he wrote, “but [these figures] are also a timely reminder to reflect on our continent’s continued dependence on foreign aid.”

He urged African countries to shift from raw resource exports to value-added production, especially in sectors like rare earth metals—"needed to power the world’s most sought-after technologies"—to break free from extractive, colonial-era economic models.

Skills, Sovereignty, and BRICS: Ethiopia’s Path to Shared Prosperity

Ethiopia's State Minister for Labor Employment and Market Sector Solomon Soka has underscored the critical link between homegrown skills development and Ethiopia’s economic transformation, especially in key sectors like agriculture, industry, tourism, mining, and digital tech.

“If we create the ecosystem or the value chain along those technologies… it creates job opportunities along the different value chain and reduces unemployment,” he told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of Ethiopia’s National Skills Competition.

🤍 With over 70% of its 120 million citizens under 30, Ethiopia has a demographic advantage—but turning that into wealth means investing in skills. Soka emphasized that BRICS partnerships offer Ethiopia a vital chance to learn from emerging global players:

“Such kind of collaboration at the national level can give us an opportunity to benefit from the experiences of the BRICS states.”

From BRICS to Borders: COMESA’s Push for Stronger Intra-African Trade

As Ethiopia hosts COMESA Week, the bloc's Secretary General Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe emphasized the growing importance of economic alliances like BRICS in reshaping trade dynamics.

“Ethiopia has recently also joined BRICS, which for us is a very good move because at least we have COMESA member states actively participating,” she told Sputnik Africa.

For COMESA, the goal is clear: deepen regional integration and reduce dependence on raw exports.

Through initiatives like the Simplified Trade Regime supporting women traders and the Tripartite Free Trade Area (COMESA–EAC–SADC), COMESA is harmonizing policies to break barriers across the continent.

“When we come together and harmonize our rules and regulations, then it becomes easier for us to trade… from Cairo to Cape.”

🇷🇴 George Simion: Romania's MAGA moment?

The politician HAS MADE IT to the Romanian presidential runoff by obtaining 40% of the vote. What are his political leanings?

🔸Not by elections alone

The leader of the right-wing Alliance for the Union of Romanians party seeks “TO RESTORE CONSTITUTIONAL ORDER” in Romania.

“I have a single objective: to give back to the Romanian people what was taken from them,” Simion noted after casting his ballot.

🔸Georgescu-friendly

The politician dubs himself “more moderate” than independent presidential candidate Calin Georgescu who was earlier BARRED from the elections.

Simion shares Georgescu’s aversion to what he calls “Brussels’ unelected bureaucrats.”

🔸Playing hardball with EU and Ukraine

Simion accuses EU officials of interfering in Romania's elections as he pledges to restore his country's “dignity” within the bloc.

He says “no” to sending military aid to Ukraine and wants Romania to reduce support for Ukrainian refugees.

🔸MAGA Romanian-style?

An avid Trump fan, Simion makes it clear he wants to become Romania's “MAGA president” and make history of the country.

Making Romania great again apparently means helping it “RETURN TO DEMOCRACY” and ensure the rule of law, according to the politician.

🔸Fan of Meloni

Simion is known for praising Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as a political hero and calling for the “Melonization” of Europe.

“Believe me, there will be a Simionization as well,” the politician claims.

Key Statements by Putin in the Documentary "Russia. The Kremlin. Putin. 25 Years"

🔹 On Ukraine and the Special Military Operation (SMO):

▪️ Russia did not intentionally prepare for the SMO, but sought to resolve the Donbass issue peacefully;

▪️ Russia has enough forces and means to bring the SMO to its logical conclusion;

▪️ Russia has faced deliberate provocations to force it into making mistakes during the SMO, but it has remained calm and composed;

▪️ Russia had no need so far to use nuclear weapons during the special operation. "I hope there won't be a need;"

▪️ Peace with Ukraine is inevitable — it's only a matter of time.

🔹 On confrontation with the West:

▪️ The West failed to properly respond to warnings made by Moscow at the Munich Conference, which eventually led to the tragic events in Ukraine;

▪️ Under the pretext of respecting the Minsk agreements, the West paused only to rearm Ukraine;

▪️ Launching the SMO in 2014 would have been unrealistic — Russia was not ready for direct confrontation with the collective West;

▪️ The situation around the Minsk agreements is an experience that must be taken into account in the future.

▪️ Until 2022, Russia perceived the agreements with the western countries with cautious trust.

🔹 On historical events of the 90s and 2000s:

▪️ Separatist tendencies were strong in Russia in the 1990s — not only in the North Caucasus;

▪️ If it had not been possible to hold Russia together in the 90s, it would have faced a very bleak future, with suffering for its people;

▪️ In the early 2000s, Russia's adversaries had every chance to split the country — attempts continue even today;

▪️ The president shared that he first knelt in prayer during the Nord-Ost theater siege;

▪️ The Beslan tragedy will remain forever with those who witnessed it and those who know about it;

▪️ Russia tried to convey to the West that they were supporting terrorists in the Caucasus, but they "nodded their heads and did exactly the opposite."

🔹 On values and traditions:

▪️ Russians differ from Western societies — Russians think more about eternal value;

▪️ Loss of identity is extremely dangerous for Russia: without traditional values, the country simply won't exist;

▪️ National unity is the main guarantee of Russia's victories;

▪️ "I continue to breathe the same air as millions of Russian citizens."

🔹 On a successor:

▪️ Russia should foster individuals capable of earning the public’s trust;

▪️ The president said he observes and assesses each person's potential when thinking about a successor;

▪️ He constantly considers the question of a possible successor, but it is up to the Russian people to make a final decision on who will be the next leader of Russia.
