The Sandbox has not ended its business. Instead, it has undergone heavy layoffs, leadership changes, and a pivot in strategy.
• Leadership changes & layoffs
• Co-founders Arthur Madrid and Sebastien Borget stepped down from daily management roles. They now serve as Non-Executive Chair and Global Ambassador.
• Robby Yung, CEO of Animoca Brands, has become the new CEO of The Sandbox.
• Over 50% of staff were laid off (around 250 employees globally before cuts). Offices in several countries, including South Korea, were closed.
• Shift in focus
• The company is moving away from being a purely metaverse platform.
• It is now focusing on Web3 applications and a meme coin launchpad, especially on the Base blockchain.
• Still, they claim the creator-driven metaverse ecosystem remains part of their mission.
• Token & ecosystem remain alive
• The SAND token, LAND NFTs, and assets are still active.
• There has been no delisting or token shutdown. Trading continues normally on major exchanges.

TheSandboxGame is laying off more than 50% of its staff, and the founders have been sidelined.
Sebastien Borget and Arthur Madrid no longer have executive roles and have been replaced by Robby Yung, CEO of Animoca Brands.
According to TheBigWhale, more than half of the 250 employees are being laid off, with office closures planned in Argentina, Uruguay, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, and soon Lyon.
