Seeking Advice on Building a Dual-Boot PC
Hey everyone,
I've been running Hackintosh on my laptop for over a year now, but I'm planning to build a PC. I want it to run both Windows 11 and macOS. My main reason for switching to a PC is that my laptop, with its GTX 1660 Ti, doesn't support HDMI.
I'm looking for a balanced build—not too expensive but not super cheap either. I'll be using it mainly for programming (especially Xcode-big projects), video editing, and Photoshop on macOS, and gaming on Windows.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Kernel Panic Help?
Hi All,

As the title says i'm getting a Kernel Panic when i attempt to install on a Dell Optiplex 3050. I have a Dell Optiplex 3070 that i'm currently using & have managed to setup MacOS Sonoma Just fine [Small issue with bluetooth but the fix is in the works\]. To be frank i do not know how to decipher Kernel Panic & was wondering if someone could help me with this issue.

Best USB Wi-Fi adapter for Big Sur?
I have my router downstairs but all my stuff is upstairs and I don't have a good way to lug ethernet to my room upstairs so I need something to allow the computer to connect to the internet wirelessly.
I did take a look at this if anyone is wondering. For reference I do have one already but it only works with Windows as I used to have Windows 10 running on the PC. The amazon page for the adapter for the curious.
I did end up finding this one on a different post on this sub. However, it says this one is only compatible with macOS 10.9 to 10.15 and Big Sur is 11.
Wondering if there is a good Adapter or if there is a workaround for the one I currently own?

I cant boot, i tried all
Hi, I am trying to do a hackintosh but I have one error, i make 3 efi folders (following the dortania's guide) and the 3 efi folders have the same error, i tried all, i see the kernel issues page, i read comments, etc. Recently I published a post like this and the comments say that i need to load order in proper tree. I saw a tutorial that makes it automatically with ctrl+ shift and other key but i have the same error.

Regarding SSDs on Hackintosh
I was considering installing a hackintosh build on my laptop. I had a double SSD configuration, but one of my SSD's gave way. I unfortunately cannot afford to buy a new SSD at the moment.
My main SSD is 1 terabyte, and i wanted to partition it into three - one partition for windows, one for endeavouros/arch, and one for hackintosh.
I see people on this sub advise a new SSD rather than using a single SSD when dualbooting. Why is this? Is it actually that bad, and should I wait until i can afford a new SSD?

No audio during facetime group call
Specs
Running Sonoma 14.5 on my Dell G3 3579 (Coffee Lake)
iGPU - Intel HD 630
dGPU - 1050Ti (disabled -wegnoegpu)
Audio - ALC236 (Rebranded ALC3204)
Whenever I do a facetime with two or more people, I cannot hear their voice. But this works properly with a one on one facetime call. I faced the same problem before on Ventura.
Audio and video calls work perfectly with whatsapp. Has anyone face similar problem and were able to solve it.

Sleep/wake issue HP Pavilion X360 14
Hello everybody, I have some troubles with sleep/wake on my HP laptop. When I close the lid, the machine goes to sleep normally. After I open the lid the screen comes on for 1-2 seconds and then the machines shuts off completely. I have mapped my USB ports, tried several fixes in the guide but nothing seems to work so far. Can someone point me in the right direction for a possible fix? I have to mention that my battery is dead so that can be the issue as well.
Specs:
CPU: i3 1005G1
iGPU: Intel UHD Graphics G1
Storage: SSSTC CV8-8E128-HP
Wifi/BT: Intel® Wireless-AC 9461
SMBIOS: MacBookAir 9,1

After spending a weekend on it... my 14.5 Sonoma Ryzentosh is in working order
https://preview.redd.it/1p3egb70qmcd1.jpg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=42af80953a662b2188a8bc51b5727194b9b39f1a
This was quite an adventure. First Hackintosh I've ever done, a pretty random idea to do one but I was curious. Went with Sonoma first, gave up due to my motherboard (ROG Strix X570-F Gaming) not playing nicely at all with the AppleIGB kext so I couldn't install it before the connection dropped. Then went with Big Sur... only to realize that my GPU (RX 6600) is unsupported there so there was no hardware acceleration... so I went back to Sonoma and eventually got it working with a different kext after a decent amount of searching.
Speaking of that kext... I made a comment on an issue about it in the AppleIGB repository right here. Hopefully some more poor souls with an X570 and Intei I211 network adapter combination finds that useful.
Regardless. I'm very surprised by how stable this system runs now when its all said and done. Haven't really bothered configuring the audio codec since my sound either comes through a monitor or some old Steelseries Arctis headphones and it just seems to work. Also don't have bluetooth going right now but will probably fix that later today.

For some reason I decided to set up a hack yesterday at 8 in the morning. Already had a config but it was made for OpenCore 0.7.0 and Catalina, so I thought I'd make a new one. Everything works great now except for line out, no matter what layout I used I simply couldn't get it to work, so I said screw it and decided to stick with the headphone jack on the front. Everything is working as far as I know aside from that. And if it doesn't work, it's not important to me, so I don't care if it works or not.
Had some issues booting initially. After searching the problem up on the internet I tried disconnecting my optical drive and then my 7800 GTX which I had previously used for a QEMU virtual machine. Didn't solve it, because as it turns out I had curl'd the HTML for GitHub rather than the actual prebuilt SSDT. After correcting that embarrassing mistake it mostly worked, after some tweaks.
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z490-G Gaming (Wifi)
Processor: Intel Core i9 10900 (works with iMac20,2)
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon RX 570 (8GB) (works natively)
Memory: 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance @ 3600Mhz (forgot to enable XMP lol)
Ethernet (because it's notable): Intel I225-V (using AppleIGC)
Wifi: Intel AX201 (built in, works with AirportItlwm)
Note: I haven't posted here before so feel free to comment any questions or whatever.

OCB: StartImage failed - Aborted (Intel DH67CL)
Hi! I am trying to install Monterey 12.7.5 with a PC that has the following specs:
* CPU: i7 2600
* MOBO: Intel DH67CL
* RAM: 10Gb DDR3
* iGPU: Intel HD 2000 (disabled in BIOS due to incompatibility with Monterey)
* dGPU: ASUS RX 580 8Gb
* Storage: Crucial BX500 240Gb + 1Tb WD BLue
* Audio: PreSonus Studio 24C
* Bootloader: OpenCore 0.7.0
**Context:**
A couple of days ago I had tried to install Monterey with Clover. Indeed, I got it:
https://preview.redd.it/w8vrbjn2gkcd1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0cb9bc6e487b004eb52c3b69e6f885ccd35ae157
However, when trying to start the installer from disk, I got a lot of errors until I decided to try OpenCore, followed Dortana's guide and used OC version 0.7.0 because I saw someone running his Hackintosh with the same motherboard using this bootloader.
Now, I haven't had much luck with OpenCore on previous occasions, but now I managed to get it to boot from USB with no problems (however, if there is anything I could correct, I would appreciate your help as well)
[After this, boots without any problems... or so I think.](https://preview.redd.it/xn49nk84gkcd1.jpg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea5550672b096169869d4f5f8a9cb2ee7e7fd5ed)
I don't get any GUI, with icons and stuff (unlike Clover which did show me a graphical interface), I just have this:
[It even recognizes the macOS installation on the hard disk \(option 4\).](https://preview.redd.it/4pd1t2q5gkcd1.jpg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=318b73c945e22199b5fb8291e7ed7aabc3890f7a)
The problem is that, when I select both start from USB and hard disk (option 3 and 4 respectively), I get the error:
`OCB: StartImage failed - Aborted`
[OCB: StartImage failed - Aborted](https://preview.redd.it/hbvqdaafgkcd1.jpg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=63d8d20b02ddd489437f49db4ffaed8c06f11a5b)
After that, I return to the OpenCore selection/picker menu.
**My BIOS:**
* UEFI: Enabled
* VT-X: Enabled
* VT-D: Disabled (and I can't change that)
* SecureBoot: Disabled
* CSM: Disabled
* Sata mode: AHCI
* iGPU: Disabled
* HotPlug: Disabled
**Things I did (or tried):**
* Follow as closely as possible the Dortana guide for Sandy Bridge processors.
* Format the USB in FAT mode and MBR partition scheme (I used two different USB's).
* I used SSDTTime to extract the DSDT.aml file, which leaves me with only one SSDT-EC file that I added to the ACPI folder.
* I used GenSMBIOS to (obviously) generate my SMBIOS (MacPro6.1).
* I used ProperTree-Master to modify the config.plist file (taken from Opencore Release 0.7.0) and did OC Snapshot every time I made a change.
* Using a .raw image file from Monterey vanilla (I downloaded several .iso versions that I could not flash on any USB, both with Rufus and BalenaEtcher).
* Search a lot of times everywhere about every error I get...
I thank you in advance for any help you can offer me. I will attach the latest .log of Opencore and my config.plist

Getting back into Hackintosh but the landscape has changed
Hello everyone! I was involved in the OSX86 project back in the day - a funny name now considering so many real Macs ended up using x86 processors. By the time I stopped any involvement, the current version of Mac OS X was 10.6 - Snow Leopard. This was about 15 years ago.
At the time, the best method for installation among people who actually knew what they were doing was a retail install method. There was a genius named nawcom who had a blog and posted nawcom's modcd, and later nawcom's modusb, a bootable program that would allow you to install Mac OS from a retail DVD, available at the time from the Apple Store for $30 (and typically protected from booting on non-Apple hardware partly because it used EFI and that was not yet standard elsewhere) and nawcom's modcd had a really great script that would check your hardware and include necessary kexts to patch the installer. This method had benefits over "distros" because you were installing the vanilla Mac OS, for the most part, and the vanilla kernel, so that you could update the system without borking everything.
Well, now it's been 15 years, and I'd like to get involved again, but I'm not sure where to start. Everything I knew back then is probably quite outdated by now. I have read over opencore's webpage, but I haven't done much else.
I have an Alienware M15R3, 2.6GHz six-core 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10750H, 16GB of RAM 2,666MHz, Nvidia RTX 2070 GDDR6 8GB, 1TB PCIe M.2 SSD, Killer Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
I understand that the RTX card won't be supported, but I should be able to use the integrated GPU. What else should I know before attempting this? Anything I should read to avoid growing pains and headaches? Anything I should forget about what I know from before? And what version would you recommend I install?
Thanks!
