H.264 and HEVC hardware acceleration using Radeon HD 7870
My hackintosh is running macOS Monterey 12.6.7 with the following specs:
CPU: Intel Xeon e3-1230v2
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7870 2gb
RAM: 8GB 1600 Mhz
Wifi: TP-Link USB because I don't have a PCIe network card
SMBIOS: MacPro6,1

Graphical acceleration works and the UI runs smoothly but video encoding/decoding is not working at all according to VideoProc. I also get VDA Decoder failed in Hackintool.
So far, I've tried various boot arguments (from here) but none of them seem to be applicable. I've also tried changing the SMBIOS to MacPro1,1 but did not have any success.
Any help would be appreciated 🙏🏻

How to run a command on osx without owning a Mac ? Or more exactly, how to emulate an Apple Silicon Macintosh on ᴘᴄ/Intel based hardware ?
For some reason, I need to use a specific software that is supposed to run everywhere but turns out it only finds results on a osx running on Apple Silicon as ./profanity.x64 --reverse --steps 20000 --cache --target 0x24bfec77b282d8f45a22e3a9dd6019ae61cd0704b02600aa53e7f3a1e70ec4374fabdea4ac483629ab3021224be6575dbf0ab2cd742ecabb7dc38c228c73a19b from the Readme.md doesn’t return a result on other platforms.
So the situation is :
It’s reported to behave in the current way (not finding results) on all ᴘᴄ hardware and compilers (Windows & Linux & bsd). More exactly, it seems [this condition inside the code](https://github.com/rebryk/profanity-brute-force/blob/b4e93566e7f414c91c899665216cf87fbd455393/profanity.cl#L1082) becomes true only on a Apple’s Silicon based Macintosh.
Per user reports, it works on all Apple Silicon (M1 & M2) Mac, so that the exact Apple Silicon hardware is irrelevant.
Now, what I wonder :
Is it a memory coherency issue so that using `CL_DEVICE_TYPE_CPU` instead of `CL_DEVICE_TYPE_GPU` in [`Profanity.cpp`](https://github.com/rebryk/profanity-brute-force/blob/b4e93566e7f414c91c899665216cf87fbd455393/profanity.cpp#L36) would cause the software to no longer run correctly ?
If not, is it a platform issue so that it doesn’t run on osx that uses Intel ? (Update : someone told me this morning it’s not working on his 2013 Intel mac but without telling how so it’s unsure it’s the bug I’m dealing about)
Of course, nobody owing a Mac is willing to help by taking 5 minutes to download the source code ; and then try the source code modifications out for debugging.
So how to run osx for Apple’s silicon‑based Mac on a ᴘᴄ as even renting a M1 Mac would at least 50 times more costly and that I can afford ? Performance isn’t that much a problem for me, besides a Mac M3 pro is far slower than what I have even when not emulated…

HD Graphics 530 not detected on Big Sur
Hi I've been trying to setup big sur on this pc:
Cpu: intel i5 6500 3.20 ghz
Gpu: intel graphics 530
Ram: 16gb ddr3 2133mhz
Motherboard: msi b150m pro-vd
Ssd: 500gb
I followed every step of the dortania guide but still the gpu is not detected and is showing 8mb, and also the system is a little slow, it seems it's not going at 60hz.
I've seen systems less powerfull than this run the latest macos versions without any problem, so I don't know what seems to be the issue.

Hello everyone,
I hope you're all doing good.
hardware:
CPU: Kaby lake I7 7700K
MOBO: ASROCK Z270 Killer sli/ac
GPU: XFX Radeon RX6600
Let me give you a brief context. I was running Big Sur on my hardware, but my graphics card(ASUS rx570 4gb) burned and I bought a new gpu (XFX Speedster SWFT 210 Radeon RX 6600). This GPU is not supported on Big Sur and now I'm having to upgrade to Monterey.
I did the installation, but it doesn't boot, only takes me to a black screen. I have attached both EFIs, the one I'm running right now for Big Sur(no graphics acceleration) and the new one for Monterey.

Software update error in Sonoma solved by cancelling install? (for 14.1 and 14.1.1)
I made this SUCCESS post a few days ago.
Yesterday I tried to update to 14.1, and after the update was downloaded, this error message appeared:

I retried a few times and always the same error.
During one of the tries I cancelled the update process by clicking the X button.

The next time I tried it worked perfectly ok.
This happend for the update to 14.1 and a few moments ago for the recent 14.1.1 update.

Mini-Guide Fixing Broadcom hardware compatibility issues with MacOS 14 Sonoma
## Background
The latest version of MacOS, Sonoma 14.1, removes support for a lot of legacy hardware, including Broadcom wireless chips. In effect, this means that older Mac computers (and hackintoshes), lose WiFi and Bluetooth support.
A workaround found by the Hackintosh community is to restore older framework files and kexts from an older version of MacOS. Unfortunately, this comes at the expense of SIP or System Integrity Protection. Up until the last version of MacOS Ventura, SIP was fully enabled, allowing for totally unmodified system files, as well as Secure Boot.
Thankfully, Sonoma comes with relatively few material improvements (the first feature that Apple touts on its announcement page is the introduction of new screensavers), so those who stick with Ventura aren't missing out on too much.
## Guide
Adopted from Cyberdevs on the InsanelyMac forum.
To use Open Core Legacy Patcher's current patches, you'll need to ensure the following:
1. System Integrity Protection is set to 0x803 csr-active-config, the data value should read 03080000
2. Reset NVRAM or add csr-active-config to the Delete panel to ensure the new variable is set correctly.
3. Make sure that the Secure Boot Model is set to Disabled.
1. Navigate to Misc > Security > SecureBootModel (top right hand side)
4. Block the kext com.apple.iokit.IOSkywalkFamily
1. Set the Strategy of the blocked kext to Exclude
5. Set MinKernel to 23.0.0 to ensure patches only apply on Sonoma
6. Inject the following kexts:
1. IOSkywalk.kext
2. IO80211FamilyLegacy.kext This kext has a child, AirPortBrcmNIC.kext, make sure that it is injected as well. (OpenCore Configurator will automatically detect it)
7. Set MinKernel to 23.0.0 to ensure patches only apply on Sonoma
8. Once these are injected, you can run OpenCore-Patcher's Post-Install option and root patch. On reboot, Wireless support should be restored assuming your machine was configured correctly to the above.

My hackintosh reboots every 3 seconds (ventura)
ok so i have my hackintosh ventura installed but i cant even open it it restarts my pc before even like loading the home screen i just downloaded it and every 3 seconds it restarts and say your macOS had an issue do you wanna reboot is my SMBIOS my problem because im using the MacPro7,1 SMBIOS instead of the iMac20,1

Hello, so I've been trying to get Sonoma to run on my HP all in one and the only thing I'm having issues with is getting the graphics to work. It's showing only 7mb of vram and I've tried almost everything to get the igpu to work. Any tips on how to increase the vram and make it recognized is appreciated!

Help with WiFi
Hi I'm beginner at hackintosh. I recently installed my first macOS high sierra hackintosh and want to upgrade to Monterey/Ventura, but there is a question about wifi. The fact is that I have an Ethernet cable far from my computer and there is no way to bring the router to the PC or take the PC closer to the router, so my choice became Wifi, but I do not know which usb adapter to take, since I do not have a native wifi card. I already have one TP-Link TL WN821N V5 that works at most on Mac OS version 10.11. Please tell me which Wi-Fi adapter should I take so that the Internet works on macOS Ventura or Monterey.

Cloning / swapping drives resulting in kernel panics until EFI replaced
I've got my Ventura NVME in a removable NVME tray, and a second one as a backup. My backup process is effectively:
1. Shut down the machine, slide in the backup NVME
2. Boot to CloneZilla and clone the main drive to the backup drive
3. Shut down and remove the main drive
4. Boot from the backup, make sure the backup is as it should be, and shut down again
5. Remove the backup drive, replace the main drive
When I did this tonight, after booting from the backup I couldn't get the machine to connect by Ethernet. When I went into network settings, it was showing a self-assigned IP. When I tried to trigger a DHCP renew, the machine kernel panicked and restarted. Some notes about this:
1. This was not occurring prior to doing the backup
2. It was occurring on both the backup and main drives
3. I tried NVRAM reset but it made no difference
4. Soft and hard resets made no difference
5. Kernel panic logs weren't all that helpful, but did show culprits in networking kexts or web browser
After a lot of frustration, and as I was considering wiping and reinstalling, I decided to try replacing the EFI with a backup from when I built it. Same version of OC and all drivers/kexts. This solved the problem, on both the main and backup drives.
This seems such a weird and specific problem to occur after essentially just swapping the drives, and I can't understand why replacing the EFI folder would resolve it. Not a major issue as it's resolved now and I've revised my backup procedure document with this information. I'd like to understand it though.

I am very new to this and am looking to gauge whether or not I have enough skill to figure out how run MacOS on an old PC I have. I currently have a MacBook pro, but am looking to get a desktop that runs MacOS. I have a machine with a ryzen 9 3900x, RX480, and ROG crosshair vi hero x370 mobo.
If I were to do an install of Mac os on a hard drive using my MacBook, what extra work is required aside from booting into the drive on the desktop? What extra work is required on the software side?

Updating to Ventura/Sonoma on "unsupported" SMBIOS
So I have a dell Optiplex 9020 (i5/16gb/256gb SSD) currently running as a Late 2014 Mac Mini with Monterrey. Was hoping to get a little more life out of it by updating it to Ventura or Sonoma, but was curious what the process was. Do I just change my SMBIOS to something supported and update, then use OCLP to install root patches? Or is there a whole other process I need to follow for something like this? I've seen people do it, but haven't found much information on exactly how they're doing this.

Everything else runs fine most of the time. I can’t get more than 5 MB of VRAM. I’ve tried framebuffer and all other tips I found on the internet. I can’t find any values that don’t either give me a black, blank or frozen screen. Is my laptop even Hackintosh capable? I’ve contacted companies that charge money and they assure I should be able to run Sonoma easily but I can’t even get my graphics acceleration to budge. There are countless posts online saying it’s fixable but I think I’m missing something. I’ve tried using hackintool to see if I can’t try patching or something but as soon as I try patching I get either endless boot loop or panics. Also, my graphics are displayed as ???? In hackintool. I can’t change the resolution on my hackintosh to other than 1600x900. No metal vda decoder failed etc. Has anyone got any idea how to fix this?

Convert old Hack into NAS-type backup?
I built a hack ten!?! years ago based on Slugnet's video editor on TonyMacx86: GA-Z77X-UD5H | i7 3770K (orig link is gone?). I don't have enough time to try to hack my way to upgrade this or build another one - but the thing is still running Mojave decently.
I need a decent backup solution for my Mac Studio. The internal HDDs in my hack feel way more dependable than any usb external drives I have. Often times my external drives on my studio disconnect and mess my up cloud backup solution as well.
Both are on a switch connected to my router. Can I just leave Mojave on there? Or could I install Linux or Windows? Need an automated way to back up.

Stuck on [EB|#LOG:EXITBS:START]
Hi, I already have a working Hackintosh with OpenCore in legacy mode (DuetPkg)
The specs are:
* Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E31225
* Foxcon q65 motherboard (hp bios)
* Gigabyte gt 730
and due to bios of this motherboard it didn't recognize OpenCore in UEFI mode. But i managed to boot into opencore in UEFI mode on this pc. And it stuck on error \[EB|#LOG:EXITBS:START\]. I already read Dortania troubleshooting about this error and it did not help me. So yep, i would apreacite any help.
