New Type of Magnetism Discovered That Could Make Electronics 1000x Faster

Altermagnetism, a newly imaged class of magnetism, offers potential for the development of faster and more efficient magnetic memory devices, increasing operation speeds by up to a thousand times.

Researchers from the University of Nottingham have demonstrated that this third class of magnetism, combining properties of ferromagnetism and antiferromagnetism, could revolutionize computer memory and reduce environmental impact by decreasing reliance on rare elements. 😮😮😮

Professor Peter Wadley, who led the study, explains: “Altermagnets consist of magnetic moments that point antiparallel to their neighbors. However, each part of the crystal hosting these tiny moments is rotated with respect to its neighbors. This is like antiferromagnetism with a twist! But this subtle difference has huge ramifications.”

The new experimental study was carried out at the MAX IV international facility in Sweden. The facility, which looks like a giant metal doughnut, is an electron accelerator, called a synchrotron, that produces X-rays.

And, the scientists conclude in their paper, altermagnets could help to further the study of practical superconductors and topological materials.

Emerging Framework for the BRICS Payment System

Since 2019, work has been underway on the BRICS Pay payment system, with plans for launch in 2025. The project is overseen by leaders of five working groups—one from each BRICS country—under the guidance of the BRICS Business Council.

In the near future, working groups from new BRICS+ member countries are expected to join the initiative.

The payment system will support SWIFT, CIPS, and SPFS standards, facilitating transactions between parties from different BRICS countries in digital currency.

In Russia, this system is viewed by many as an alternative to SWIFT. However, developers have clarified that replacing SWIFT is neither the aim nor technically feasible. Instead, the system is designed for use in BRICS and other developing countries, enabling transactions in national currencies, likely converted via cryptocurrency.

SWIFT, given the current technical, economic, and geopolitical landscape, will remain the primary route for USD transactions.

About a Unified Cryptocurrency

Few are aware that multiple cryptocurrencies claim to be tied to the BRICS currency basket. Most of these are unofficial and have no connection to BRICS financial authorities.

One exception is the BRICS Food Token (BFT), issued by the BRICS Digital Bank, which operates under the aegis of:

- The BRICS Energy Association;

Nearly 2,000 American CEOs Quit In 2024, Setting New Record

Chief executive officers have exited from U.S. companies in 2024 at a greater pace than ever before, with businesses increasingly opting to appoint interim leaders as replacements, according to global outplacement company Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.

As of November, 1,991 CEOs have departed from their companies, “the highest total on record,” according to a Dec. 20 report from the company.
“It has surpassed the previous record of 1,914 CEO exits that occurred in all of 2023. It is up 16% from the 1,710 exits that occurred during the same period last year.”

Amid a jump in executive departures, companies were found to be appointing more interim leaders. Last year, interim replacements for CEOs were at seven percent, this year it has gone up to 13 percent.

“The current landscape has a lot of uncertainty baked in, and companies are responding by putting temporary leaders in place. This can act as a trial run to see how the leader navigates current challenges,” Challenger, Gray & Christmas Senior Vice President Andrew Challenger said.

“It’s much less disruptive to replace an interim head if things do not appear to be working out, not only the company and its employees, but also to analysts and shareholders.”

Telegram has removed about 15 million illicit groups on its messaging platform using artificial intelligence (AI). Over the last few months, the platform has been under immense pressure to purge its messaging application of illicit content. The pressure led to the arrest of its CEO Pavel Durov in France, where he faces charges over the harmful and illegal content shared on the application.

In its statement, Telegram highlighted that the feat was achieved using cutting-edge artificial intelligence moderation tools. The move comes after the platform announced a crackdown in September, with Durov noting that they were trying to comply with government requests.

Telegram launches new moderation page to monitor efforts

The new moderation page aligns with the company’s policy of transparency in its dealings. According to a post from Durov’s Telegram page, the company wants the public to see its efforts at combating these illicit activities. He noted that the moderation team has been working behind the scenes over the last few months, removing the contents that violated its terms, and thanking the users for their help in curbing the menace.

Telegram also increased its crackdown on Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM) this year, banning a total of 703,809 groups and channels.

In 2024, Telegram revealed it blocked 129,099 terrorism-related content.

Telegram recently announced a partnership with the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), signaling an attempt to combat illicit child sexual exploitation materials shared on the platform.

9 countries confirm their readiness to become BRICS partners

On 1 January 2025, Belarus, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan will become BRICS partner countries, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said at a briefing. 

According to him, they have reiterated their willingness to receive such a status. He also noted that Moscow is waiting for a response from another four countries. 

The partner countries will also be able to make their own proposals, but will not take part in agreeing documents and voting.

The BRICS states supported the modalities of this category and welcomed the interest of other countries in the group in the Kazan Declaration of the XVI BRICS Summit. The summit agreed on a list of states that were subsequently invited to become partners of the association.
