🗒Useful language for IELTS: Writing Task 1 (for IELTS instructors)
In this post I’d like to look at language that is very useful for describing how something falls or rises, a very common feature of almost all types of IELTS Writing Task 1. As can be seen below, in order to get Band 6 (which is what a lot of students are aiming for), the student needs to at least ATTEMPT to use less common vocabulary.

IELTS Speaking Actual Tests & Suggested Answers (September - December 2017)
IELTS Speaking Actual Tests & Suggested Answers (September - December 2017) is a very useful guide to help IELTS test-takers achieve Band 7.5 or higher in the IELTS Speaking tests.
It contains Speaking Actual Tests for IELTS candidates who will sit the IELTS test by 31 December 2017.
Even if your English is not perfect, you can transform your IELTS Band score by using this book.
Each topic (Part 1, 2, 3) in this book has Band 9.0 Sample Answers, a clear-to-follow definition of academic words, phrases, collocations or idioms, and a further example of how to use these topic words in the Speaking part of the test so that you are ready to use the vocabulary in IELTS Speaking.

✍️ Write like a pro! How can you improve the quality and style of your IELTS Task 2 essay?
In IELTS task 2 essay we often have to say whether some measure will help to resolve the issue or not. For example: 'Traffic jams are a problem in modern cities. So many people say that the best solution is to build wider roads'. So your task is to explain in your essay whether you think this measure will be effective or not. And why?
You often write that 'if something happens, some results WILL follow'. For example, 'If the prices for petrol get higher, people will stop driving cars and will start using public transport.' But how do you know? How can you be sure of that? When you write something like this, your reasoning doesn't seem persuasive.
So, instead of 'will', in such cases it is better to use the following structures:
✅something may/might happen
✅something will probably/possibly happen
✅something is likely to happen
✅the odds are that something will happen
For example, if the prices for fast food increase significantly, a number of people are likely to stop consuming it as they will no longer be able to afford this type of food.
Phrases such as 'people will DEFINITELY/HAVE TO/INEVITABLY HAVE TO do something' are sometimes appropriate too, but everything depends on the topic and the way you develop your idea.

Today's students see themselves as digital natives, the first generation to grow up surrounded by technology like smartphones, tablets and e-readers.
Teachers, parents and policymakers certainly acknowledge the growing influence of technology and have responded in kind. We've seen more investment in classroom technologies, with students now equipped with school-issued iPads and access to e-textbooks.

🤔 Who marks your speaking test?
Your speaking skills are assessed by the examiner who interviews you in the test room. And you get your band score for speaking right after your leave the test room. But you will know these results 13 days later when you receive your Test Report Form. If you are not happy with your results, you can request a re-mark. You pay for it and fill in the form. In this case, a senior examiner will listen to the recording made during your speaking test and re-mark your speaking test. This examiner will not know the results you got. So you may receive a higher score, your score may remain the same. Or you may even have a lower score 😲
